A Judge Posted Rihanna Lip-Syncs To TikTok. Now He’s Trying To Avoid Serious Discipline

Two months after a New Jersey judge was hit with a misconduct investigation over TikTok videos in which he lip-synced to Rihanna’s “Jump” and other popular songs, he’s filed his first response — admitting “poor judgment” and “vulgar” lyrics but saying he intended only “silly, harmless, and innocent fun.”

Gary N. Wilcox, a judge on New Jersey’s Superior Court, is facing potential discipline after it was revealed in June that he had posted pseudonymous lip-sync videos featuring sexually explicit and violent lyrics. One featured a Nas song about a courthouse shooting; another centered on Busta Rhymes lyrics about oral sex; several were filmed in his actual court chambers.

In his first formal response Friday (Aug. 18), Wilcox repeatedly owned up to the mistake — saying he’d intended the videos to be private but acknowledging that “the content of some of his posts was inappropriate and not becoming of a judge.”

“The respondent recognizes that now and with the benefit of hindsight would not have made and posted them,” Wilcox wrote. “Nor will he ever post again.”

But Wilcox also defended himself, saying the lyrics came from songs by “recognized commercial artists” that had been “played on the radio” and could be purchased by anyone — including some that had been “nominated for recognized music industry awards.” Notably, Wilcox also suggested that his use of hip-hop lyrics had been treated differently than it might have been for a different type of music.

“Other genres have generated popular songs by artists who have criminal backgrounds or lyrics about objectionable or even abhorrent conduct,” the judge wrote. “Yet, such artists and songs remain popular. Those who listen to them, sing them, or even lip-sync to them are not adopting any messaging or lifestyle of the artist or song.”

Wilcox was hit with a complaint on June 30 by New Jersey’s judicial conduct watchdog, claiming he had used the alias “Sal Tortorella” to create dozens of TikTok posts over the past two years.

The complaint cited 11 videos that were “inappropriate and brought disrepute to the Judiciary,” including those with “graphic sexual references to female and male body parts” or “racist terms.” Several were allegedly filmed in his personal chambers, and one was filmed walking through the courthouse in his robes.

“By his conduct in posting these and similar videos to TikTok, Respondent exhibited poor judgment and demonstrated disrespect for the Judiciary and an inability to conform to the high standards of conduct expected of judges,” judicial regulators wrote.

In one video, Wilcox mouthed lyrics from “Jump” by Rihanna: “If you want it let’s do it / Ride it, my pony / My saddle is waitin’ / Come and jump on it / If you want it, let’s do it.” In another, Wilcox appeared as “Touch It” by Busta Rhymes played in the background: “While she tryna touch see I was peepin’ it out / She turned around and was tryna put my dick in her mouth / I let her.”

One other video featured Nas’ “Get Down,” a 2002 track that features a lyric about a criminal trial in which a defendant “grabbed a court officer’s gun and started squeezing” and another in which gang members kill a doctor who treated a rival.

The complaint, lodged by the state’s Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct, accused Wilcox of violating three different rules governing the New Jersey judiciary, including one requiring judges “to avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety.” Under state guidelines, his discipline could range from a light reprimand to his outright dismissal from the bench.

In Friday’s response, Wilcox urged the committee to impose only a reprimand. He cited his “unblemished record” prior to the videos, and said the TikTok clips, which had been viewed by only a small number of people, had not caused lasting damage to “the public’s perception of his integrity.” He also said he had faced enough punishment simply by the case being publicly filed against him.

“The public is clearly aware of the embarrassment and humiliation that respondent has been subjected to by the enormous press coverage resulting from the filing of the complaint for public discipline,” Wilcox wrote.

As for the lyrics themselves, Wilcox repeatedly stressed that he had not intended to “endorse any of the artists, their lifestyle or their views.” Referring to the sexually-explicit Rihanna lyrics, the judge said he chose it simply because he had “heard the song and liked the music.”

“The song was posted because of the music and to have fun lip syncing,” the judge wrote. “It was not posted because of any meaning, nor was the post directed anywhere, at anyone or anything.”

Wilcox will face a formal hearing on the allegations, but such a hearing has not yet been scheduled.

Rapper Gunplay Facing Felony Charges in Miami Over Alleged Domestic Violence Incident

The rapper Gunplay is facing three felony charges over an alleged domestic violence incident involving his wife.

The rapper, whose real name is Richard Morales, was arrested Sunday and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and child abuse, according to court records reviewed by Billboard.

According to a police report obtained by Miami’s Fox affiliate, the rapper’s wife, Vonshae Taylor-Morales, told police that an intoxicated Gunplay became enraged when she asked him to lower the volume of a video game on his Xbox to avoid waking their six-month-old child. After he allegedly threw glasses and bottles at her, she reported that he then picked up an AK-47 assault rifle and aimed it at her.

When she attempted to leave the apartment, Taylor-Morales says he blocked her and attempted to grab the baby by the neck and head. When she screamed for help, the rapper allegedly left the apartment, allowing her to flee the scene. Police later arrived, arresting Gunplay and recovering the AK-47.

On Instagram, Taylor-Morales recounted the same incident and said that she would be filing for divorce. “I just want everyone to know my daughter and I are safe,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, Richard is back using and developed a very bad drinking problem. I’ve tried everything in my power to help him and love him. This is a demon he has to overcome on his own. At this point I really believe it’s too late.”

An initial hearing before a judge had been scheduled for Monday morning to determine whether Gunplay would be released on bond, but it’s unclear if it took place. The rapper could not immediately be located for comment.

Taylor Swift Unveils Limited Edition Aquamarine Green ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ Vinyl

1989 (Taylor’s Version) is the gift that keeps on giving.

Taylor Swift revealed another limited edition vinyl colorway via Instagram on Monday (Aug. 21), this time a soft aquamarine green color. Similar to the yellow “Sunrise Boulevard” vinyl she announced last week, Swift’s newest vinyl will be available to pre-order for just 48 hours on Swift’s website here

1989 (Taylor’s Version) is out on Oct. 27, which Swift announced during her last show at Los Angeles SoFi Stadium on August 9. The album was originally released in 2014 and topped the Billboard 200 albums chart for 11 weeks.

After the announcement earlier this month, Swift’s former seven-week No. 1 hit “Blank Space” from the original album re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Aug. 19), marking its first appearance on the survey since its initial 36-week chart run in 2014-15. “Blank Space” was a monumental hit for Swift, marking her third and longest-leading No. 1 at the time.

1989 (Taylor’s Version) will be Swift’s fourth “Version,” since announcing her re-recording project in 2019. The previous three all logged time at No. 1 on the Billboard 200: Fearless (Taylor’s Version) with two weeks in 2021, Red (Taylor’s Version) with one week in 2021, and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) with two weeks in 2023.

Days after his brother was killed, Blac Youngsta has spoken out about it and he now wants revenge.

Last Friday (August 18th), local news networks reported that a man was shot to death while at a gas station in South Memphis, Tennessee earlier that morning. The rapper confirmed speculation on social media about the man being Blac Youngsta’s brother through his Instagram Stories on Sunday (August 20th).

“I Love U My Baby Brother Rest Up,” he wrote. “I’m Gone Make The World Pay. I Swear To God. Nobody Safe. Standing Over Everybody. Everybody. 4LIFE.” He’d continue: “I’m Ready For Whatever Come With This Shit. It’s Ok. Don’t Feel Sorry For Me. I’m Not Gone Feel Sorry For Nobody. Only God Knows.”

The Collective Music Group artist concluded: “Gone Make Sure They Feel Me. I Promise. Life Will Never Be The Same. But God Got Me. I’m The Strongest Man N The World.” Sadly, the death makes it the third brother that Blac Youngsta has lost in a violent manner. He spoke publicly about the death of Ronnie B, who was also shot and killed in a Facebook post in 2016. The rapper also lost his brother, a rising rapper who went by the name HeavyCamp TD in a shooting in Miami, Florida in 2019.

Tomanuel Benson was shot at the Valero B.P. gas station at 9:30 A.M. and was found on the scene by police officers. Law enforcement officials have not been vocal about their initial impressions of the incident, declining to say if there was a person of interest. They did ask the public to contact them if they heard anything. Witnesses who were nearby the gas station claimed they saw a vehicle drive by when shots rang out loudly, with one striking Benson. He would then be rushed to Regional Hospital, where he would succumb to his injuries. South Parkway East

Jordan Brand Signs Aaron Judge To The Family

The New York Yankees might be having a horrible season, but their franchise player, Aaron Judge, continues to win as the 2022 AL MVP has just signed on to become Jordan Brand’s latest representative.

According to Sneaker News, Jordan Brand announced that the Bronx Bomber will be joining their ever expanding family of athletes Aug. 18 via Instagram. And though he hasn’t been able to repeat the kind of heroics in 2023 that he performed in 2022 (mostly due to injuries), a Jordan x Judge line is definitely something that New Yorkers need in their life.

Sneaker News reports:

Considered among the best power hitters and team lifters in the game, Judge has become one of the faces of Major League Baseball since crash-landing in 2017 with one of the greatest rookie seasons in the history of the sport. Since that campaign, he’s been a perennial threat to the MVP crown, with injuries being the only obstacle in his way.

That would be the case for the current 2023 season; Judge was out with a toe injury from early June to late July, and it appears that it’s still nagging him as he’s slowed his production at the plate. However, at full strength, Judge is easily the most threatening hitter at the plate.

We just hope any Jordan x Judge merchandise that’s released isn’t limited to baseball attire like cleats and gloves. We wanna see retro Jordan sneakers in Yankees colorways and whatnot. Whether that actually happens is anyone’s guess.

But best believe you’re going to see a massive amount of New Yorkers rocking whatever duds Jordan Brand drops that features the Yankees’ best player on it.

What would you like to see from a future Jordan x Aaron Judge line? Let us know in the comments section below.

The last treat, however, took fans by surprise. “This one is so Poot,” Lovato exclaimed with a laugh before showing off a box of cupcakes with photos of her fictional, Tumblr-born, long lost twin sister, Poot. “FREE POOT,” she captioned the post, in reference to the character’s hilarious lore of Poot’s fate of spending her entire life locked away in a basement. The photo used to represent Poot is a washed out photo of Lovato from 2015.

Comprised of handwritten lyrics, poems, family portraits and never-before-seen journals from the six-time Grammy winner, In Her Words chronicles the “Back to Black” singer’s “creative evolution” from her North London roots to music stardom.

“We always wanted the world to know the real Amy, where she came from and what made her tick,” her father, Mitch Winehouse told People in a story published on Sunday (Aug. 20). “In all aspects she was just a normal Jewish kid from North London, who did normal kid things, went to drama class, loved her grandma, her mum and dad, loved her brother.”

The collection of rare photos, published by People, includes pre-fame shots of Winehouse as a teenager and young girl, adorable baby photos and pictures with her parents. Also featured: a handwritten list titled “Fame Ambitions” outlining her dreams for the future, some of which she achieved, such as working David La Chapelle, who directed her 2007 music video for “Tears Dry on Their Own.”

Winehouse also wanted to work with Missy Elliott and Timbaland, meet Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman, and become friends with the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker, Stella McCartney and Eddie Izzard. Other goals included buying a house on Miami’s South Beach and “to have people look up to me.”

The 27-year-old singer, who died from accidental alcohol poisoning in 2011, sold more than three million albums prior to her death. Her passing led to an additional surge in sales.

Amy Winehouse: In Her Words will be released on Aug. 29. The book is available for pre-order at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Walmart, Books-A-Million, Bookshop, Thriftbooks and IndieBound. Proceeds from the book will benefit the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

“UMPG has earned a place in regional Mexican as the leading publisher, and this gives us all the confidence for our composers,” Isael Gutiérrez, CEO of Music VIP Entertainment and Grupo Firme’s manager, said in a statement. “We are proud of having learned and achieved so much independently in the most adverse circumstances but moving forward, we want to continue this positive trend alongside

Last month, Grupo Firme wrapped its tour in Central America, during which it performed in countries such as Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador. That trek was preceded by a handful of arena and stadium tour dates in the United States. Currently, Grupo Firme has eight No. 1 hits on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart, and four top 10 entires on the Hot Latin Songs chart, including “El Toxico” with Carin Leon and the Maluma-assisted “Cada Quien.”

“We are thrilled to be representing Grupo Firme and Music VIP Entertainment during this global surge in Mexican music,” added Yadira Moreno, UMPG’s MD of Mexico and Central America/vp of new business development for Latin America. “There is greatness in everything that they set their mind to, and we are thankful to be chosen as part of this. Miley Cyrus Reacts to ‘the Drama’ of Her Iconic ‘Hannah Montana’ Finale Scene

As she prepares to unleash her nostalgic new single, Miley Cyrus is taking a look back at the last time she played one of her most famous roles.

In a new clip posted across Cyrus’ social media on Monday (Aug. 21), the 30-year-old singer watches a fan-favorite scene from the series finale of her Disney Channel original series Hannah Montana. Watching her fictional self Miley Stewart say goodbye to her home in the emotional clip, Cyrus laughs at a few of her younger self’s acting decisions.

“The drama,” Cyrus said while imitating her character’s melodramatic blown kiss. As a younger Cyrus’ voice in the background performs a vocal riff, Cyrus immediately keeps the joke going. “This is how I say goodbye to everyone now,” she says before giving her own sardonic rendition of the run.

Just before the clip ends, Cyrus reflects on who she was back in the day and how much she has changed since being on the Disney Channel. “Hannah’s for kids,” she declares. “Miley’s for grown-a– men in heels.”

The clips are a part of Cyrus’ upcoming special on ABC, titled Endless Summer Vacation: Continued (Backyard Sessions). Set to air on Thursday (Aug. 24), the special will see the pop singer sharing a series of stories she’s never told from her life and career.

Then on Friday (Aug. 25), Cyrus is set to release her brand new single “Used to Be Young.” In a mysterious promotional campaign for the song, Cyrus shared a series of posters on her social media referencing past song lyrics, while appearing to give fans a tease of the new ones to come. “I know I used to be crazy. I know I used to be fun,” she wrote in her caption. “You say I used to be wild. I say I used to be young.”
