Spain’s Recorded Music Revenue Grew 12% in First Six Months

As the summer break comes to an end, the Spanish recorded music industry is celebrating a remarkable first half of 2023. PROMUSICAE (Productores de Música de España), representing over 95% of the Spanish recording industry, has just unveiled the numbers — and they are looking positive. The recorded music industry has generated a total revenue of 214.3 million euros ($229.2 million) during this period, reflecting an impressive growth rate of 11.53% compared to the same period in 2022 when the income stood at 192.1 million euros ($205.4 million).

Antonio Guisasola, president of PROMUSICAE, expressed his optimism regarding the industry’s performance in 2023. “To keep presenting growth figures over the world average is a satisfaction to us and encourages the Spanish recording companies to continue investing in Spanish talent, so that our artists succeed within and out our borders,” said Guisasola in a press release.

The digital market continues to be a driving force behind this growth, with a substantial increase of 12.82% compared to the same period last year. Digital formats now account for 88% of the industry’s turnover, totaling 188.6 million euros ($201.7 million). That’s nearly all streaming, which captured 87.8% of the total market and generated revenues of 188.2 million euros ($201.4 million) — up 13.26% compared to the first half of 2022.

Audio streaming represented 84.32% of all consumption and contributed 156.9 million euros ($167.9 million) to the industry. Video streaming, while representing over a third of total music consumption time, accounted for 29.1 million euros ($31.1 million).

Guisasola adds, “Numbers are not deceptive and consumption of recorded music is via streaming, though Spanish fans still want to have a bond with their favorite artists through vinyl, a format that follows the path of sales growth, offering very well cared for products that provide an added value to consumers.”

The physical market has also shown resilience in the first half of 2023, maintaining its share of the total market at 12% and experiencing a growth rate of 2.91% compared to the same period in 2022.

Sales of vinyl, in particular, have outperformed CDs, constituting 56.2% of physical sales and generating revenues of 14.4 million euros ($15.4 million) — up 6.32%. CD sales, meanwhile, declined 1.32%, contributing 11 million euros ($11.8 million), making up 42.9% of the physical market revenues.

Guisasola concludes in the press release, “Support the Spanish recording industry so that it does not lose its own boost and can seize the great momentum experienced by Latin music to consolidate its growth in our country and abroad.”

In a series of short films, the campaign looks to show the normal, everyday side of Rosé and co. Within the main video, you get to see the Pink Venom singer begin to pack up her suitcase — a task that some of us love to leave for the last minute.

The Puerto Rican artist now ties J Balvin’s record as the artist with the most videos in the Billion Views Club.

The official music video of the infectious “Báilame (Remix)” came out on Aug. 11, 2017, and features Nacho, Yandel and a then-rising Bad Bunny performing the song together. Nacho’s original track peaked at No. 5 on the Hot Latin Songs chart in October 20217.

Earlier this year, Bad Bunny earned his 13th title in the coveted video club with his collaboration on J Balvin’s “Si Tu Novio Te Deja Sola,” also released in 2017. Other of his titles in the list include “Te Bote (Remix),” “Mayores,” and “No Me Conoce (Remix)” — all of which have now surpassed 2 billion views.

Bunny’s next five videos in line to enter the Billion Views Club are: Lunay, Daddy Yankee & Bad Bunny’s “Soltera (Remix)”; Prince Royce, J Balvin, Bad Bunny, DJ Luian & Mambo Kingz’s “Sensualidad”; Bad Bunny’s “Yonaguni”; Arcángel & Bad Bunny’s “Me Acostumbré”; and Farruko, Bad Bunny and Rvssian’s “Krippy Kush.”

The reggaeton superstar now ties J Balvin, who in early August reclaimed his crown as the artist with most videos in YouTube’s Billion Views Club; both artists surpassed previous titleholders Ozuna and Justin Bieber.

Foo Fighters Rewrite Mainstream Rock Airplay Top 10 Record With ‘Under You’

Foo Fighters break the record for the most top 10s on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, as “Under You” climbs from No. 11 to No. 9 on the Sept. 9-dated survey.

“Under You” sprints to the top 10 in its fifth week on the chart, giving the Dave Grohl-led rockers 31 top career 10s.

That solely marks the most in the Mainstream Rock Airplay survey’s 42-year history, snapping Foo Fighters out of a tie with Shinedown.

Most Top 10s, Mainstream Rock Airplay
31, Foo Fighters
30, Shinedown
29, Five Finger Death Punch
28, Godsmack
28, Tom Petty (solo and with the Heartbreakers)
26, Disturbed
26, Metallica
26, Van Halen
25, Papa Roach

Foo Fighters first hit the Mainstream Rock Airplay top 10 with their debut single “This Is a Call,” which reached No. 6 in August 1995. They currently have a streak of five straight top 10s going, dating to “Waiting on a War” in 2021.

Of those 31 top 10s, 12 have reached No. 1, most recently the six-week ruler “Rescued,” the single prior to “Under You” from Foo Fighters’ latest album, But Here We Are.

Previously, “Under You” extended Foo Fighters’ record for the most top 10s on Alternative Airplay (30) and gave the band sole possession of the most Rock & Alternative Airplay top 10s (16, dating to the chart’s 2009 inception).

Concurrently, “Under You” jumps 8-3 on Alternative Airplay and 29-20 on Adult Alternative Airplay. On the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, it remains at its No. 2 high with 5.6 million audience impressions, up 16%, Aug. 25-31, according to Luminate.

On the multi-metric Hot Hard Rock Songs list, “Under You” rises 11-9, returning to the top 10 for the first time since it reached No. 8 on the June 17 ranking, when But Here We Are made its chart start. In addition to its radio airplay, the song earned 371,000 official U.S. streams Aug. 25-31.

But Here We Are, Foo Fighters’ 11th studio set, debuted at No. 1 on the Top Alternative Albums chart dated June 17 and has earned 127,000 equivalent album units to date.

Joe Jonas Performs Without Wedding Ring After Sophie Turner Divorce Filing

When the Jonas Brothers took the stage in Phoenix on Wednesday night, Joe‘s wedding ring was not in attendance.

Eagle-eyed fans at Footprint Center noticed that the singer, who recently filed for divorce from wife Sophie Turner, was missing his band on his ring finger hours after posting a joint statement about their split. Joe was seen wearing his ring at the trio’s Sunday concert in Austin, Texas, and in an Instagram post on Monday.

Jonas and Turner announced their separation in a joint statement from their respective Instagram accounts on Wednesday. “Statement from the two of us: ‘After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,” the pair wrote. “There are many speculative narratives as to why, but truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.’”

Since announcing their split, fans of the couple — who first started dating in 2016 and tied the knot three years later in 2019 with weddings in Las Vegas and France — were distraught on social media and began mourning the end of the relationship. No one seemed more distraught than La Vie En Rose actress Marion Cotillard. On Monday, Entertainment Tonight released a report via Instagram stating that Joe hired a divorce attorney, to which Cotillard shared her thoughts on in the comments section of the post. “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! NO! NO! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!” she wrote. Her response, in the time since, has gone viral.

d4vd Lights Up Spotify #PopRisingOnTour Stop at LA’s Roxy Theatre: Photos

d4vd‘s star is officially on the rise, and Spotify has taken notice.

The 18-year-old singer — who broke through with the 2022 tracks “Romantic Homicide” and “Here With Me” — is one of a handful of performers selected by the music streamer to participate in its #PopRisingOnTour, which shines a light on the artists featured on the platform’s Pop Rising playlist and allows them a slot to play for fans.

“This year, Spotify introduced #PopRisingOnTour, our collaboration with emerging artists that lets us celebrate Spotify’s Pop Rising playlist on the road, at key tour stops nationwide,” Lisa Ritchey, manager, pop, dance & indie, artist partnerships, Spotify, said in a statement. “Watching d4vd go from making music in his sister’s closet to selling out this show in minutes has been thrilling to watch as he continues to captivate his fans both on and off stage. We’re so proud to see his promising career unfold, and to assist other rising talents through this initiative.”

To catch up with the rising star, Billboard caught d4vd’s set at #PopRisingOnTour — which took place at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday night (Sept. 6) — to take photos of him getting ready to hit the stage, performing several tracks from his catalog and even taking a young fan onstage.

Up next for d4vd is the release of The Lost Petals EP. The set, arriving Friday, will contain a total of five tracks and serves as the formal follow up to his breakthrough EP, Petals to Thorns.
