Watch Kingsley Ben-Adir’s Bob Marley ‘Jamming’ in the Studio in ‘One Love’ Sneak Peek

In a new clip from the upcoming biopic Bob Marley: One Love, premiering exclusively on Billboard below, viewers go inside the studio with Kingsley Ben-Adir’s Marley and his full Wailers band as they record their signature 1977 reggae smash “Jamming.”

Ben-Adir — the British actor known for the TV series The OA and Peaky Blinders and as one of the Kens in the Barbie movie — captures Marley’s mannerisms and arm-waving moves in the clip as he lip-syncs to the classic song. In a sign of the times, Marley & The Wailers all record in one room simultaneously in the clip, as opposed to isolating vocals and instrumentals as is commonly done now.

As the track continues to play, we also see Marley playing foosball with his bandmates, so it’s not all work in the studio.

“Jamming” was released on Marley & The Wailers’ 1977 Exodus album, which peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and hit No. 3 on Reggae Albums. It was also included on the 1984 greatest-hits set Legend, which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and has spent 818 weeks (and counting) on the tally — making it the second-longest-charting album of all time after Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon at 988 weeks. Legend has also spent a record 210 weeks (again, so far) at No. 1 on the Reggae Albums chart.

“Jamming” famously includes the lyric “No bullet can stop us now.” Marley was shot during a 1976 home invasion in Jamaica in an assassination attempt and fully recovered from his injuries. He later died of melanoma at age 36 in 1981.

Warner Chappell Music Promotes Lázaro Hernández to SVP Role

Warner Chappell Music has promoted Lázaro Hernández to senior vice president, A&R, U.S. Latin & Latin America. The Miami-based executive — who most recently helped sign Maria Becerra, Chencho Corleone and Gabito Ballesteros — will lead the U.S. Latin A&R team while expanding his responsibilities to shape the company’s overall A&R strategy in Latin America. He will continue reporting to Gustavo Menéndez, president, U.S. Latin & Latin America.

“I have so much gratitude for Warner Chappell,” Hernández said in a statement. “I get to work with a passionate team and help our songwriters get to the core of their creativity. There are more opportunities than ever before for Latino songwriters to share their music with the world, and I’m grateful for my role in that. I’m eternally thankful to Gustavo, Guy [Moot], and Carianne [Marshall] for believing in me and entrusting me with this opportunity.”

Hernández first joined Warner Chappell Music in 2008 as an A&R coordinator. Before being promoted to his new svp role, he had been the publisher’s vp of A&R for U.S. Latin and Latin America since 2020. Now, he oversees a roster of artists, songwriters and producers that includes Andres Torres & Mauricio Rengifo, Chris Jedi, Gaby Music, GALE, Natanael Cano, Paulo Londra, Rauw Alejandro and Villano Antillano, among others.

“Laz is one of the most talented A&R leaders in the industry, and I’ve had the fortune of working with him for over 15 years, witnessing not only his growth as an executive but also his ongoing commitment to our songwriters,” added Menéndez. “His drive is unstoppable, and he has such an intuitive approach to working with artists and songwriters, spotting hidden talent, and helping to develop their songwriting careers. Rapper Lil Zay Osama Facing Federal Gun Charge After Allegedly Leaving Loaded Glock In Uber

Chicago rapper Lil Zay Osama is facing a two-count federal indictment for illegal firearm possession after he allegedly left an automatic Glock pistol in the back of an Uber after a ride in New York City.

Prosecutors say that Lil Zay (real name Isaiah Dukes) carried a loaded pistol that had been modified into a machine gun during the rideshare trip from a luxury hotel in Manhattan to a recording studio in Queens, then left it in the back when he exited the vehicle.

The indictment, handed down by a Brooklyn federal grand jury Wednesday, charges Lil Zay with possession of a machine gun and possession of an unregistered firearm – accusations that carry a prison sentence as long as twenty years if he’s convicted.

“Machineguns have no place on the streets of our communities,” said Tommy Kalogiros, the lead investigator at the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, better known as the ATF. “They are weapons intended to kill and injure with maximum effect, with the shooter often firing uncontrollably and indiscriminately.”

The new federal case is only the latest gun charge for Lil Zay.

Last month, he was arrested in Chicago after Lil Zay and three other men allegedly led police on a high-speed chase. When the car was finally stopped, police reportedly found multiple loaded Glock pistols, as well as the same kind of modification device to convert a firearm into a fully automatic machine gun that was featured in Wednesday’s indictment. Before that, Lil Zay was reportedly arrested in Chicago in January 2023 on separate weapons charges – an incident that led to Lil Zay’s awkward-looking mugshot going viral on social media.

After the September 2022 taxi incident at the center of Wednesday’s indictment, Lil Zay was arrested in New York, but he was later released after he posted bond. Two months later, the rapper claimed on Instagram that the case over the incident had been “dismissed” and demanded an apology from hip hop personality DJ Akademiks, who had publicized incident on social media.

“Me personally leaving a gun in an Uber? Think about it lol I never did that!” he wrote in an Instagram story the time. “So stop saying I did cause if I did DNA would’ve been on gun and they would have found me with it.”

On Wednesday (Jan. 24), Taylor praised the “Walk on By” star by giving props to the woman who she said helped her see herself. “And just like that.. 2020MORE Blessings!,” Taylor wrote alongside rose, praying hands and heart emoji in an Instagram post that featured a screenshot of an announcement from Warwick’s son, producer Damon Elliott, confirming the movie’s green light.

“It’s official… we are funded and we have a shoot date!” Elliott wrote, seemingly certifying that the film is ready to begin shooting; at press time there was no additional information on the production.

Taylor gave the 83-year-old Warwick her flowers in the post, writing, “Ms. Dionne Warwick… A woman of great statue, poise and elegance, with a fiery spirit — Realizing I was looking at my future self. My reflection without a mirror,” adding, “Being able to learn and study from one of the greats like, @therealdionnew has allowed me to learn a lot about myself and the woman I am today. She has taught us to be proud of who you are…. —Don’t Make Me Over.”

The post ended with Taylor telling Warwick that her music and social involvement has “enhanced the culture. Your soul and artistry serves as an example of not only resilience and strength, but of faith and purpose.” Taylor included a nod to the producers behind the film and Elliott, writing, “We are so excited to make you proud!… Shout out to @iamdamonelliott it’s GO TIMEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! It’s been a long time coming!!!”

Taylor announced plans for the movie in March 2023, telling Tamron Hall that they had already begun working on the biopic. “We’re in the building process right now. I’ve always wanted to make sure like, I could lock in with any person that I would be playing, you know?,” Taylor said at the time. “How Angela [Bassett] and Tina [Turner] was, how Jamie Foxx and Ray Charles, you know what I’m saying? Like, to really get to know them and I miss when movies was like that, when you get to know them and tap in and just bond.”

She said that at that point she and Warwick were already talking to each other every day. “That’s my girl. Me, her, and her son [Elliott],” she said. “I mean, I’ve always been a firm believer in just always standing on safety. She’s had a wonderful career, you know, and I think right now it’s about making her feel as safe as possible so she can tell her story. A lot of these stories get misconstrued or extremely dramatized to an extent and that’s not where we want to go.”

The role seemed to manifest naturally back in 2020, when notoriously hilarious X poster Warwick had a meet-cute on what was then called Twitter in which Dionne tweeted at Netflix with a plea to make a movie and take her casting suggestion. “Please don’t ask who I would cast to play me as it would obviously be Teyana Taylor,” Warwick wrote at the time.

Justin Timberlake Announces North American Dates for 2024 Forget Tomorrow World Tour

Just hours after teasing his return to the stage on Thursday night’s (Jan. 25) Tonight Show, Justin Timberlake rolled out the dates for his first tour in five years. The first leg of JT’s Forget Tomorrow World Tour will include 22 North American dates, kicking off on April 29 with a show at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

The Live Nation-produced arena outing will take Timberlake from coast-to-coast, hitting Seattle, San Jose, Las Vegas, San Diego, Phoenix, Atlanta, Tampa, Miami, Chicago, New York, Boston and Cleveland before winding down with a July 9 show at Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY.

The dates will support Timberlake’s upcoming sixth solo album, Everything I Thought It Was, which features his moody new R&B single, “Selfish.” The new album — Timberlake’s follow-up to his earthy 2018 Man of the Woods LP — is due out on March 15.

There is a Citi presale for the tour that kicks off in the U.s. beginning Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. local time until Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. local time here, with a Verizon presale slated through Verizon Up beginning Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. local time until Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. local time here. Tickets for the North American tour will be available beginning with a fan presale starting Jan. 29, with existing fan club members receiving a unique email code, followed by the general onsale kicking off on Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. local time here.

Justin Timberlake Plays Greatest Hits on Classroom Instruments, Talks Getting Tackled By Travis Kelce on ‘Tonight Show’

Justin Timberlake spent four years recording upcoming Everything I Thought It Was album, so it’s no surprise that the “Selfish” singer had some energy to spare when he jumped on the couch on Thursday night’s (Jan. 25) Tonight Show. From his sprinting up to the cheap seats rumba line entrance with old pal host Jimmy Fallon, to a greatest hits run classroom instruments bit, Timberlake seemed eager to kick off his EITIW era after several years of being mostly off the radar.

Introducing JT at the top of the show, Fallon went on an extended news-inspired riff in the opening monologue ticking off just how close the pair are. “He is the Taylor to my Travis,” Fallon joked. “He’s the missing bolt to my Boeing plane… He’s the recall to my exploding Tesla… Yeah, he and I are besties. We got together like a soccer mom and a Stanley tumbler… That’s right, we’re quite a team. Think of us like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, but with chemistry… I’m so glad he’s here. Last week when it slowed a little in New York, I looked at the grass and I saw those frosted tips and I thought, ‘I should call Justin.’”

The pair then crammed into the Tonight Show schoolroom for a round of Classroom Instruments, with the Roots gathered around as Timberlake struck a triangle to kick off a funky, unplugged version of his just-released new single, “Selfish.” They only got a verse in, though, before diving into a quick-hit run through JT’s solo catalog of hits, pivoting to a snippet of hip-swiveling “Señorita,” before jumping into “SexyBack,” “My Love,” “Suit & Tie,” “Rock Your Body,” and a raucous “Can’t Stop the Feeling.”

Timberlake, 42, made a proper entrance by roping Fallon into doing a dance up the steps into the audience and then busting some disco moves before hoofing it back down to the stage and declaring himself “exhausted.” Fallon said he’d never seen anyone work harder on anything than Timberlake did on EITIW, describing Timberlake’s work ethic in the studio, while Justin copped to how strange it was to be explaining the new album’s origin to Jimmy, with whom he said he’s already discussed it ad nauseam in private.

“I feel like we’ve already had this conversation, but we have to have it so you guys can hear the story,” Timberlake said, of the difficulty of recording during the pandemic, having his second son, Phinneas, with wife Jessica Biel, and tracking 100 songs over different runs across several years. In describing the sound, Timberlake suggested that the Tonight Show should have a spin-off called Jimmy Fallon Listens to Your Album.

Timberlake then described what a kick he got out of watching Fallon listening to the album. “What was I doing?” Fallon asked in perfect rehearsed confusion. “A lot,” Timberlake laughed, as Jimmy described himself as totally “cool” and “chillin’ out” in the studio. Justin then proceeded to jump on the couch and channel Fallon by shouting “what is this song?!” “OH! What?!,” “OH My GOD!” before busting out some goofy dance moves.

JT also revealed the upcoming Forget Tomorrow World tour, which kicks off April 29th in Vancouver, with stops in Seattle, Phoenix, Fort Worth, Raleigh, Miami and New York, with dates and venues to announced soon.

The segment ended with Fallon recalling an unlikely bunker shot he nailed while playing at Timberlake’s 8AM Golf Invitational tournament last year, where the friends were paired with Kansas City Chiefs dynamic duo Travis Kelce and QB Patrick Mahomes. Jimmy described Timberlake giving him some meticulous swing advice, before cueing up the video of Fallon sinking the shot and getting lifted up into the air by an overjoyed Kelce.

It got better, though. In an extended view of the special moment, after Timberlake sprinted around in circles, he made his way over to congratulate the two and Justin said that was nearly the end of him. “Travis Kelce almost… I saw my life flash before my eyes,” Timberlake said of his abject fear when jumping up to do a hip bump with the 250-pound NFL tight end.

“I was like, ‘he’s doing it! I have to do it!,’” Timberlake recalled thinking, forgetting that the professional baller has about 80 pounds on him. As the tape kept rolling, it showed Kelce hip-checking Timberlake flat onto his sexy back on the green.

Timberlake will be back as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend and will play a free show at 1,100-capacity Irving Plaza in New York on Jan. 31.

Chris Murphy, Former INXS Manager, Posthumously Saluted In Australia Day List

The late Chris “CM” Murphy, the enigmatic entrepreneur who guided the career of INXS, and mapped out a raft of projects which kept their music alive, well after the band had called time on touring or creating new music, is posthumously awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).

Murphy, who died in January 2021 following a battle with cancer, is awarded for “service to the performing arts through music,” and is one of 1,042 Australians recognized “for distinguished and conspicuous service” on Australia Day, Jan. 26.

Murphy managed the new wave legends from 1979 until 1995, and again in the 2000s – following the death of frontman Michael Hutchence.

Formed in Western Australia in 1977, INXS summited the mountain that is popular music with six U.K. top 10 albums (including a No. 1 with Welcome To Wherever You Are from 1992) and five U.S. top 20 albums, a BRIT Award (in 1991 for best international group) and, in 2001, elevation into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

The band’s journey was tragically derailed by the 1997 death of Hutchence, at the age of just 37, though INXS continued with replacement singers. The end of the road came in 2012 with a show in Perth, where the group’s journey began all those years ago.

It was Murphy who saw a golden future — and opportunity — for INXS and its catalog, which didn’t rely on performance or new music.

Through a combination of strategic music releases, remixes, film, exhibitions, merch, media partnerships and more, INXS would become the biggest-selling act in Australia in 2014, a full two years after the band played its final gig. Indeed, the band’s best-of collection from 2011 was the best-selling album by a homegrown act in Australia last year.

The surviving members of INXS last year reunited in Sydney to launch Calling All Nations, a 400-plus “love letter” created by a global fanbase and the band, and released through a partnership of Murphy’s Petrol Records, UMe, uDiscover Music and This Day In Music Books.

“Chris was hungry,” recounted founding saxophone player and guitarist Kirk Pengilly during that rare reunion. “He just took no prisoners”.

Other music industry standouts named in the Australia Day 2024 Honours List include Milly Petriella, managing director of Milk and Honey’s operations in Australia and New Zealand, who is lauded with an OAM for “service to music and the performing arts.” That service included a 27-year stint as director, member relations and partnerships at APRA AMCOS, from 1995 to 2022, where she earned a reputation for moving mountains for the PRO’s members.

During her time at APRA AMCOS, Petriella founded the Vanda and Young Global Songwriting Competition, which has raised over A$2 million for Nordoff-Robbins since its launch in 2009; served as creative producer of the APRA Music Awards; championed the SongHubs program; administered the society’s Ambassador program; the Professional Development Awards; the Women In Music Mentorship program; the Vanda and Young Global Songwriting Competition; and grew its Los Angeles, London and Nashville as director, Global Music Export Offices.

Others music figures feted today include Dennis Burgess, chairman of the Australian Songwriters Association and patron of the Association of Artist Managers, who earns an OAM “for service to the performing arts, and to the music industry”; John Foreman OAM, the musical director, event director, pianist and composer, who now receives an AM; and Max Lambert, the composer and musical director for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and ARIA Award winner for The Boy From Oz (2000) and Playschool (1998), who receives an AM.

Taylor Swift Beats Green Day In Australia’s Chart Race

Taylor Swift is back on Australia‘s chart throne, as 1989 (Taylor’s Version) returns to the summit.

The best-selling album for 2023 in Australia, according to trade body ARIA, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) racks up its 12th non-consecutive week at the summit of the ARIA Albums Chart, published Friday, Jan. 26.

21 Savage’s American Dream last week bumped Swift’s re-recorded LP from top spot. But the dream didn’t last. Savage’s set dips 1-7, as Swift moves back to the top, 2-1 on the latest tally.

1989 (Taylor’s Version) is one of four TayTay albums in the top 10. With the start of the U.S. pop superstar’s The Eras Tour of Australia less than a month away, expect Swifties to keep her music at or near the top of the albums chart.

The top debut this week belongs to Green Day with Saviors, arriving at No. 2. The U.S. pop-punk trio’s 14th and latest studio album becomes their 12th top 10 album in these parts. The Rock Hall-inducted Bay Area band has topped the ARIA Chart on three occasions, with Dookie (1994), American Idiot (2004) and Father Of All Motherf—ers (2020).

Noah Kahan makes a move on both main Australian charts with Stick Season and its title track. The U.S. singer and songwriter’s album lifts 10-6, for a new peak, while “Stick Season” improves 3-2, also a new high, on the ARIA Singles Chart. Further down the singles tally, a new version of the album track “Homesick,” featuring English singer Sam Fender, bows at No. 57.

At the top of the ARIA Singles Chart is Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me,” which enters a 10th non-consecutive week at No. 1, ahead of “Stick Season” and Tate McRae’s “Greedy” (up 4-3), respectively.

The Saltburn bump can be felt on the singles chart as Sophie Ellis-Bextor‘s 2001 hit “Murder On The Dancefloor” gains 12-7. The single, which is synced to the dark drama, peaked at No. 3 following its initial release.

U.S. singer and TikTok star Benson Boone bags a career high with “Beautiful Things,” new at No. 18, besting the “34” peak for his 2022 single “In The Stars.”

Finally, homegrown EDM DJ and producer Dom Dolla cracks the top 50 with “Saving Up.” The reigning ARIA Award-winner for best dance release, Dolla’s latest release starts at No. 44.

Justin Timberlake Sets ‘Forget Tomorrow World Tour’

First the single, then the album, now Justin Timberlake completes his solo return with confirmation of a world tour.

The former boybander announced the big news when he stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, for a stint surfing the guest couch.

The Forget Tomorrow World Tour will support JT’s forthcoming collection Everything I Thought It Was, his first solo album release in more than six years.

Due out March 15, EITIW is Timberlake’s sixth studio LP, and the followup to Man of the Woods which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 following its release in February 2018, for his fourth consecutive solo leader.

As a warm-up, the pop singer will play a small-capacity show in New York on Wednesday, Jan. 31, the 1,100-capacity Irving Plaza.

Fallon teased the touring news out of JT, in a totally above-board, pre-rehearsed kind of way.

Was there anything more to announce, the late-night show host prompted his musical guest? Well, yes, “we are still putting the setlist together for Irving Plaza,” noted Timberlake.

But wait, there was more.

“I’m going on tour,” was the dry response.   

The 10-time Grammy Award winner gave fans a taste of things to come earlier this week with the release of “Selfish,” the first cut from EITIW. He’ll be back on our screens when he serves as musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend, with Dakota Johnson hosting. 

Though his solo music career has been in deep freeze, Timberlake did return to his boy band roots last year when he reunited with *NSYNC for “Better Place,” which accompanied the JT-starring animated family film Trolls Band Together. The track started at No. 25, for *NSYNC’s lucky 13th appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 and first appearance on the tally since “Girlfriend” featuring Nelly reached No. 5 — way back in 2002.

As a solo artist, Timberlake has landed 19 titles in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, including five No. 1s.

Ice Spice Unleashes New Single ‘Think You the Sh– (Fart)’: Stream It Now

“Think you the sh–, bi—? You not even the fart (Grrah),” Ice Spice raps on her latest single “Think You the Sh– (Fart)” that she released on Friday (Jan. 26) via 10K Projects and Capitol Records.

Her first single of the new year comes three months after her last release, “Pretty Girl” with Afrobeats star Rema, which the two performed during Ice’s Saturday Night Live debut. It also arrives one year after the 24-year-old MC dropped her debut EP Like..?, which featured her breakout hit “Munch (Feelin’ U)” and her second of four Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hits, “Princess Diana” with Nicki Minaj.

Ice Spice is up for four Grammys next month at the 66th annual awards show: best new artist, best pop duo/group performance with “Karma” with Taylor Swift, best rap song and best song written for visual media with “Barbie World” with Minaj. Her Super Bowl commercial with Starry will also air next month.

And in March, she’ll be honored with the Hitmaker Award at Billboard‘s 2024 Women in Music Awards. Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, the show will be held on March 6 at Inglewood’s YouTube Theater and will stream the following day.
