Some of the biggest names in music will co-chair the Met Gala. We take you inside J.Lo’s movie premiere. Jennifer tells us more about her possible last album. Prince Royce stops by our studio and our Friday music guide is chock full of divas.

Tetris Kelly
Happy Friday fam. I’m Texas Kelly for Billboard News. It’s February 16th and we’re starting today’s show off with our Friday music guy and it includes my favorite dynamic duo. Ariana and Mariah on a non holiday track it is still feels like Christmas to me. Come on whistle tones.

Tetris Kelly
We’ll have more new music throughout the show. But first let’s get into our top story. The first Monday in May is almost here and we know some famous faces we’ll definitely be seeing it this year’s Met Gala. Zendaya has been named one of the year’s co-chairs of the 2024 Met Gala. She’s no stranger to walking those famous stairs and with her recent ‘Dune: Part Two’red carpet show steal. There’s no surprise she’s top of the list. Bad Bunny is also one of this year’s co-chairs. He’s always the talk of the town when he attends the gala. This year, it’s in honor of the exhibit Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion. While the exhibit sounds Disney it actually refers to clothing so fragile it can ever be worn again, thus sleeping in the archives. Another Met Gala staple Jennifer Lopez is our final musical co-chair, fellow actor Chris Hemsworth rounds out the fantastic four co-chairs with his first ever Met Gala appearance. We can’t wait to see how they adhere to this year’s dress code the Garden of Time. Some other artists we’d love to see at the Met Gala: Beyoncé of course, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B always blow us away with their looks. The girls of BLACKPINK always shines. Maybe we can get some more K-Pop artists. Plus Ariana Grande, Kacey Musgraves and Taylor Swift will all be coming off of album releases and we’d love to see what kind of fashion they bring.

The incomparable Quincy Jones is a staple in the music industry with 25 songs on the Hot R&B, Hip-Hop Songs chart, four of which reached No. 1, he’s won an Emmy, a Tony, a humanitarian Oscar and an insane 28 Grammys, making him one of only 25 people to achieve EGOT status. He has an incredible resume and over 70 years of musical memories to be proud of.

But it’s not just his own successes on his CV, some of the biggest legends in music have Quincy Jones to thank for their achievements. In 1961, Quincy became the director of A&R for Mercury Records. Three years later, he will become the vice president becoming the first African American to hold a top executive position at an American major record label. Quincy has worked with some of music’s greatest and is to thank for creating the Michael Jackson we know to this day.

Quincy Jones
Michael that was an accident. We did ‘The Wiz.’ And he said, because he helped me find a producers and Michael, you don’t even have the song and the picture yet. Let’s not only think about that, let’s get to the song when he asked me about the producer to see what he could do that hadn’t been done before. I was thinking about the reins of his voice and just that’s the stuff that you do like the architecture of production, you know.

Tetris Kelly
There’s no denying Quincy Jones has changed the entertainment game.

Quincy Jones
I’ve been so blessed to be able to contribute to how that changes is how we are represented and received. We’ve come a long way from the time when you need to see faces of color on TV.

Maximum Relaxation: These Outdoor Saunas Are Perfect for Cold Weather – And They’re on Sale for a Limited Time

All products and services featured are independently chosen by editors. However, Billboard may receive a commission on orders placed through its retail links, and the retailer may receive certain auditable data for accounting purposes.

You don’t have to leave home to enjoy a perfectly relaxing spa day, just get a portable sauna.

Home saunas come in handy when you need to relax after a long day or an intense workout session. If the idea of buying a home sauna feels intimidating, it’s not as scary as you might think. In fact, you don’t need a ton of space to fit one comfortably in your home and there are several options on sale for Presidents’ Day.

See below for more information on the benefits of home saunas and brands that we recommend.

Feel the Heat: Here’s What Makes Home Saunas Worth It

Investing in a sauna means that you’re putting health and wellness first, and that’s always a good thing. Aside from stress relief and pain relief, saunas offer a range of health benefits. According to the National Institute of Health, using a sauna has anti-aging benefits and can help with weight loss, skin rejuvenation, improve sleep habits and increase blood circulation.

And you can use them indoor or outdoors, including in the backyard, basement, home gym or a large bathroom. Not all saunas are created equal though, so while you might find saunas for under $500 such as this portable steam sauna from Amazon, they won’t be as sturdy and don’t look as good as wooden saunas from retailers such as Sun Home Saunas, Home Depot and other options on our list.

Believe Leads Music Stocks With 19% Jump Following Bid to Take Company Private

Believe’s share price jumped 19.2% to 14.78 euros ($15.93) this week following Monday’s news that a consortium including founder/CEO Denis Ladegaillerie plans to take the company private at 15.00 euros per share. The scant difference between the offer price and Friday’s closing price suggests investors believe Ladegaillerie, along with investment funds EQT and TCV, is likely to get the deal done.

“Believe has a significant opportunity ahead to consolidate the independent music market and create the first global major independent,” Ladegaillerie said in a statement. But the consortium, which has 71.9% of outstanding shares, has a good distance to go. After the group obtains a 75% stake through already agreed-upon transactions with some shareholders, it will acquire regulatory approvals and the opinion of an independent expert before making a tender offer for the remaining shares.

The Billboard Global Music Index rose 1.4% to a record 1,659.96 as 13 of the index’s 20 stocks finished the week in positive territory. That brought the index’s year-to-date gain to 8.2%. Over the last 52 weeks, the index is up 29.4%.

Trending on Billboard

Thanks to Believe’s double-digit gain and improvements from some large companies such as Live Nation, CTS Eventim and Spotify, the Billboard Global Music Index outperformed many other indexes around the world. In the US, the Nasdaq composite and the S&P 500 declined 1.3% and 0.4%, respectively. South Korea’s KOSPI composite index rose 1.1% to 2,648.76. In the United Kingdom, the FTSE 100 gained 1.8% to 7,711.71.

U.S. stocks had an off week, rocked by news on Tuesday (Feb. 13) that U.S. prices rose 0.3% in January. That led investors to flee from stocks for fear that the higher-than-expected inflation figures would cause the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates high to cool the economy. Then on Thursday (Feb. 15), numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau showed that retail sales fell 0.8% in January, worse than the expected 0.3% decline and well below December’s 0.4% gain.

Spotify gained another 2.2% to $246.18, bringing its year-to-date gain to 31.0%. Live Nation shares improved 4.2% to $93.27 ahead of the company’s fourth-quarter earnings release on Feb. 22. Reservoir Media rose 8.6% to $6.96 a week after the company raised its guidance for full-year results and posted 19% revenue growth last quarter.

K-pop stocks have had a terrible start to 2024, though there was some improvement this week. SM Entertainment gained 9.7% to 80,100 won ($60.11), improving its year-to-date decline to 13%. HYBE, which is down 10.7% year-to-date, gained 4.3% to 208,500 won ($156.46). YG Entertainment rose 3.1% to 43,500 won ($32.64) but has fallen 14.5% in 2024. And JYP Entertainment managed a modest 0.7% gain, bringing its year-to-date deficit to 24.4%.

Every Ariana Grande Acting Role, Ranked

For over a decade now, Ariana Grande has been known as one of the biggest and best voices in contemporary pop music. From “Dangerous Woman” and “Bang Bang” to “Yes, And?” and “7 Rings,” the two-time Grammy-winning Boca Raton-bred vocalist has dominated radio and streaming playlists alike with her trademark riffs and genre-blending catalog.

Before she set up a residency in the uppermost regions of the Billboard Hot 100, however, Grande’s primary career was in acting. After all, the most devoted Ariana Grande stans first encountered the star through grainy YouTube clips of her Broadway debut (2008’s 13) or re-runs of Nickelodeon classics Victorious and Sam & Cat. After spending a few years cementing herself as one of the most dominant forces in mainstream music, Grande is making a grand return to acting with not one, but two forthcoming theatrical releases.

Grande is set to star as Glinda the Good Witch in the film adaptation of Wicked, the fourth-longest-running Broadway show of all time, which, in turn, pulls inspiration from the bestselling novel of the same title by Gregory Maguire. Academy Award nominee Cynthia Erivo is set to play opposite Grande as Elphaba, also known as the Wicked Witch of the West. Other notable cast members include Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Olivier Award winner Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Tony Award nominee Ethan Slater as Boq, Emmy Award nominee Bowen Yang as Pfannee and Emmy Award nominee Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz.

For its transition to the silver screen, Wicked will be split into two separate movie musicals. The first film is slated to hit theatres on Thanksgiving (Nov. 27), with the second film following almost exactly a year later on Nov. 26, 2025. The film’s first trailer debuted during the 2024 Super Bowl, giving fans a taste of both the whimsical world crafted by director Jon M. Chu and Erivo’s take on the iconic “Defying Gravity” closing riff.

As we continue to count down the days to Wicked — and her imminent Eternal Sunshine album — take a trip down memory lane a relive the best of Ariana Grande’s acting roles throughout her career so far.

Everything We Know About Beyoncé’s ‘Act II’ So Far

From the moment Beyoncé announced her 2022 album Renaissance, she made it clear that the project was only the beginning of a multi-act body of work. And now, after keeping fans waiting almost two years for a follow-up, the 42-year-old superstar has finally announced that Act II is on its way.

True to Bey fashion, the “Halo” singer unloaded the news with basically no prior warning. While she was casually enjoying the 2024 Super Bowl with Jay-Z in Las Vegas Feb. 11, fans all over the world were freaking out over the Act II announcement that simultaneously went live on her socials (but more on that later).

Once it arrives, Act II will mark Bey’s eighth studio record. It’ll also vie to become her eighth straight No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, as all seven of her previous LPs have debuted atop the chart — from 2003’s Dangerously in Love to Renaissance.

And as excited as the Hive is to enter the Act II era, Renaissance is certainly a difficult one to leave behind. The album found the former Destiny’s Child member embracing an entirely new sound inspired by electro-house music, traveling the world on her record-breaking Renaissance Tour and earning a whopping four Grammys at the 2023 awards — best dance album, best dance/electronic recording for “Break My Soul,” best traditional R&B performance for “Plastic Off the Sofa” and best R&B song for “Cuff It” — after which she became the winningest artist in Recording Academy history.

More information about Act II will come in due time. But for now, see everything we know about the album so far below.

Latin Remix of the Week: ‘El Swing 2.0’ by Christian Alicea, Luis Figueroa, Moa Rivera & Luis Vázquez

In our Latin Remix of the Week series, we spotlight remixes that the Billboard Latin and Billboard Español editors deem to be exceptional and distinct from the rest. We might not publish a review every week. This is our selection today.

Christian Alicea is not merely reviving the art of salsa; he’s rebooting it for a new generation, infusing the classic genre with a 2.0 update that’s as vibrant as it is innovative.

Last fall, Alicea created the invigorating tropical hit “El Swing,” replete with rich percussion, lively trumpets, and larger-than-life choruses that soared to No. 18 on the Tropical Airplay chart by November.

Trending on Billboard

With “El Swing 2.0,” the remix, the Puerto Rican singer escalates his mission, bringing on board the talents of Luis Figueroa, Moa Rivera (self-proclaimed as La Voz Sensual de la Salsa), and Luis Vázquez, marking a groundbreaking collaboration to further boost salsa’s resurgence. Each artist injects their unique essence into the mix, introducing fresh verses that both honor and refresh the genre’s storied footprint.

The significance of this ensemble is underscored as all participants were spotlighted on Billboard’s list of 15 Artists Keeping the Tropical Genre Alive, heralding them as custodians of salsa’s vibrant future.

The music video for “El Swing 2.0” extends this playful homage its longevity, casting the singers as baseball players — a nod to the multifaceted meaning of “swing” in both music and life. The song is produced by Eliot El Mago D Oz and DJ Buddha.

“Working with Luis Figueroa, Moa Rivera, and Luis Vazquez has been an incredible experience,” said Alicea in a statement. “Their passion for music and dedication to pushing boundaries aligns perfectly with my own artistic vision. Together, we’ve reimagined ‘El Swing’ in a way that pays homage to its roots while paving the way for its future.”

This project is a continuation of Alicea’s homage to the style’s rich heritage, as seen in his 2023 debut album Yo, where he boldly reimagined Marc Anthony’s iconic 2004 album cover for Valió La Pena. His debut album also placed three songs on the Tropical Airplay chart.

Last year, the artist signed an exclusive booking agreement with Loud and Live.

Moreover, his recognition as the only salsa artist on Billboard‘s Latin Artists to Watch in 2024 testifies his role as a pivotal figure in the genre’s evolution. Alicea’s upcoming album arrives March 15.

YSL Defense Attorney Nicole Fegan Arrested On Unrelated Gang Charges

HipHopWired Featured Video

Nicole Fegan

Nicole Fegan, a defense attorney whose client was connected to the Young Stoner Life list of codefendants, was arrested on unrelated gang charges on Friday (Feb. 16) in Georgia. Fegan, who has several videos online of her discussing her career and connection to clients, is facing multiple gang-related charges that is not connected to the YSL matter despite the chatter online.

The arrest of Nicole Fegan is a fast-developing story so we’ll try to pack in as much as we know currently. Fegan was charged back in February of last year after making contact with the suspect of a Sept. 27, 2022 shooting case that left one man dead.

As local outlet WSB-TV reports, Fegan was arrested for contacting the male suspect in the aforementioned shooting, which contained two victims, in Northwest Atlanta. Fegan was arrested in Gwinnett County and will be transported to Fulton County based on warrants that highlighted she was facing charges of participating in criminal street gang activity and criminal solicitation to commit the offense of tampering with evidence.

Police told WSB-TV that Fegan contacted the suspect by phone but was not part of their legal team thus sparking the warrants for arrest. Fegan alerted the man that there were warrants out for his arrest and that she found out about the warrants during a hearing while instructing the suspect to rid himself of his phone so he couldn’t be tracked digitally.

Fegan did not represent Young Thug in the YSL RICO case. Her client, Tenquarius Mender, had his case split from the wider YSL trial. That said, the arrest of Fegan has caused a stir online with some believing it will have some impact on the YSL RICO trial.

On X, formerly Twitter, the reactions have been pouring in. We’ve got them listed below.

From Kim Petras’ sexy sequel project to Serpentwithfeet’s club-inspired new album, check out just a few of our favorite new releases from this week below.

Kim Petras, Slut Pop Miami

After stunning fans in 2022 her surprise, sex-positive EP Slut Pop, Kim Petras is ready to do it again — this time, in some warmer weather. Throughout Slut Pop Miami, the singer returns to raunchy lyrics, club beats and absolutely wild song titles. Whether she’s talking about the various things she’d be interested in riding (“Banana Boat”) or taking on her role as the girlboss of the bedroom (“Head Head Honcho”), Petras spends all 12 tracks of her latest project letting everyone know just how far she’s willing to go.

Trending on Billboard

Serpentwithfeet, GRIP

Queer folks know what it means to find both safety and intimacy in the confines of a queer club — so Serpentwithfeet decided to make an album dedicated purely to that feeling. GRIP chronicles as many different iterations of queer-affirming encounters as the singer can, from diving into a full-blown relationship after a one night stand (“Deep End”) to the anxiety of feeling isolated on the dance floor (“Black Air Force”). Tinged throughout with Serpent’s “kinetic R&B” sound, GRIP is here to give you everything you could ask for from a night out on the town.

VINCINT, “Good II Me”

If there’s one thing you can expect from a VINCINT song, it’s euphoric vocals over thundering dance production. “Good II Me,” the singer’s latest single, delivers just what you were hoping for as VINCINT shimmies off his problems and dances the night away. House pianos, electro drums, and a full choir join his stratospheric voice as the song reaches its climactic chorus — and any chance you had at resisting the urge to dance along disappears right along with it.

PVRIS feat. Tommy Genesis & Alice Longyu Gao, “Burn the Witch”

If you’re feeling pessimistic about the general progress of our world, then PVRIS has a song for you to rage along to. “Burn the Witch,” Lyndsey Gunnulfsen’s hardcore collaboration with fellow female rockers Tommy Genesis and Alice Longyu Gao, is a pissed-off middle finger to an establishment of men who would rather bring the world crumbling down around them than stop persecuting women. The song’s relentless drums and gothic guitar lines serve as apt punctuation for the trio’s message to the misogynists of the world: “You f–ked the world for power, look who’s got it now.”

Laura Jane Grace, Hole in My Head

After a lifetime of fighting against the machine, Laura Jane Grace is ready to take a look back. Her new album Hole in My Head serves as a series of reflective entries about the Against Me! frontwoman’s life of sheer punk rock chaos. Reexamining her origins (“Punk Rock in Basements”), her transition (“Dysphoria Hoodie”) and her beliefs (“I’m Not a Cop”), Grace embraces folk-rock to tell her story in the best way she knows how — through utterly excellent music.
