A Timeline of Diddy’s Sexual Misconduct Allegations

The rapper was sued by his ex Cassie in November 2023; it was settled 24 hours later. Here’s what has happened since.

Sean “Diddy” Combs spent decades in the music industry building up his legacy through his Bad Boy empire and various side hustles to become one of the hip-hop artists on Forbes list of billionaires in 2022. He has five No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 and 15 hits in the top 10 — and that doesn’t even include his work producing hits for others.

The thing about legacies is that they’re fragile — and something that took decades to be put together brick by brick can be seemingly dismantled overnight.

Just two months after being honored with the Global Icon Award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, the hip-hop world was turned on its head when Combs’ ex Cassie filed a bombshell lawsuit accusing the music industry mogul of years of sexual misconduct and abuse during their time together.

The lawsuit was settled in less than 24 hours, but the floodgates had opened. The artist was peppered with a litany of sexual misconduct-related lawsuits to close out 2023, and they continued into 2024.

Combs denied the allegations against him in December. “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH,” he wrote. “Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday. Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth.”

Civil suits continued to stack, and the heat was ratcheted up several levels when Homeland Security stepped in on March 25 to raid the music mogul’s homes in Los Angeles and Miami, with the Bad Boy boss being linked to a sex trafficking investigation, according to CNN.

Soon after, the musician’s lawyer blasted the raid on his homes as a “gross overuse of military-level force” and a “witch hunt based on meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits.”

Below is a timeline of the allegations made against Diddy and the ensuing fallout.

The allegations against Diddy continues to get wilder and wilder. A former Syracuse University athlete has been arrested in connection to a drug investigation into the mogul.

According to Syracuse.com Brendan Paul was apprehended on Monday, March 25 at the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport. Miami-Dade Police Department officers claim they found cocaine and marijuana candy on his person. The affidavit details that this bust was a collaborative effort between the Miami-Dade Police Department, Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection. “The defendant had the contraband inside of his person travel bags, which he claimed prior to being searched,” the document reads.

He was released on $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Miami-Dade Criminal Court on April 24. The lyrics of these songs explore themes such as love, family and everyday life from the perspective of faith, thus providing an enriching experience for those who want to approach faith through music.

Among the highlights are a variety of popular genres, from worship songs such as “40CM” by the singer-songwriter CRYS together with Genock Gabriel, and the ballad “Vuelvo” by Marcela Gándara, produced by Julio Reyes Copello, which invites us to get closer to God in the most challenging moments. In addition, we included “Tu Presencia Me Llamó,” the Spanish version of the popular song “Me Atraiu” by the Brazilian Gabriela Rocha with the Guatemalan band Miel San Marcos. With this anthem, Rocha became the first woman in gospel music worldwide to reach 3.3 billion views on YouTube, according to Billboard Brazil.

Within the field of Christian urban music, songs such as “Flow Celeste” by Barajas and Alex Zurdo, “Te Siento” by Indiomar and “Locura” by Jay Kalyl stand out. While in Latin pop, there are gems such as Gilberto Daza’s pop vallenato “Seguir Vale la Pena,” and “Capulí”, which united the Ecuadorian Vaes with the Colombian band Alkilados.

In addition, the list includes “Confía” by Farruko and Dalex, “Who Who” by Nino Freestyle and Emanuel Lara, and “Chica de Altar” by the latter, all part of the compilation album Transition, from Puerto Rican Farruko’s Carbon Fiber label, which took a new faith-based direction this year and features diverse emerging artists both Christian and non-Christian. This project also supports Billboard‘s forecast that 2024 could see more secular artists break into Latin Christian music.

MAGA Salesman Donald Trump Hawking $60 Bibles Through Truth Social

Former President Donald Trump is selling a new Bible through his social media platform – but the details of the deal are worse than you think.

Embattled former President Donald Trump is working to raise funds for his current presidential campaign – as well as the impending bond in his New York fraud case – so he’s now selling a new product. On Monday, he released a three-minute video on his Truth Social social media platform where he presented the “God Bless The USA Bible”. “I’m proud to endorse and encourage you to get this Bible,” Trump begins in the video, saying “All Americans need a Bible in their home and I have many. It’s my favorite book. It’s a lot of people’s favorite book.”

The “God Bless The USA” Bible is being offered to Trump’s supporters for $59.99. Details in the link reveal that it contains the US Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, and the Pledge of Allegiance. It also contains a copy of country singer Lee Greenwood’s 1980 anthem “God Bless The USA” – in fact, the “God Bless The USA” Bible is essentially the same one that Greenwood released for sale in 2021 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and has been linked to rising Christian Nationalism in the country. A further examination of the link at Greenwood’s website now shows him in a photograph with Trump and one sentence that declares that “this is the only Bible endorsed by President Trump!”

More information in the frequently asked questions section reveals this fact: “GodBlessTheUSABible.com uses Donald J. Trump’s name, likeness and image under paid license from CIC Ventures LLC, which license may be terminated or revoked according to its terms,” which is similar to the same deal he made regarding his gold “Trump sneakers” which he promoted at a sneaker convention in Philadelphia last month. According to the Associated Press, the financial details of the deal haven’t been revealed.

Trump’s Bible promotion is the latest appeal to his white evangelical followers. In 2016 while running for office, he infamously said “Two Corinthians” instead of “Second Corinthians” during a speech at Liberty University. In 2020 while president, he stood on the steps of St. John’s Church near the White House after directing law enforcement to forcibly remove racial justice protesters from the park nearby and posed with a copy of the Bible in his hand.

TikTok Rapper Must Pay Sony Music More Than $800K Over Unlicensed Sample, Judge Rules

A rapper popular on TikTok must pay Sony Music more than $800,000 in damages for using a copyrighted sample without permission, a federal judge ruled Wednesday (March 27), saying that the big fine would teach him a six-figure “lesson” about “carefully selecting the materials included in his raps.”

Sony sued Trefuego (real name Dantreal Daevon Clark-Rainbolt) in 2021, accusing him of using a “blatant” sample from a 1986 Japanese instrumental song in his “90mh” — a track that Sony claimed had been featured in 155,000 TikTok videos and streamed 100 million times on Spotify.

After struggling to locate him, a federal judge ruled last year that the 20-year-old rapper had, in fact, infringed Sony’s copyrights. And in a follow-up ruling Wednesday, that same judge ordered him to hand over a whopping $802,997 — covering roughly $700,000 he earned in profits from Spotify and other platforms, and approximately $100,000 he would pay Sony in licensing fees.

Trending on Billboard

“The court hopes this case will serve as a $802,997.23 lesson for defendant in carefully selecting the materials included in his raps,” U.S. District Judge Mark T. Pittman wrote in his decision.

The judge also ordered Trefuego to pay ongoing royalties, including a 50% cut of publishing revenue and a 20% cut of recording revenue, and to repay $2,230 in legal costs incurred by Sony.

“Sony pursued a reasonable, non-frivolous claim to vindicate infringement of its copyrighted work,” Judge Pittman wrote. “Some may query the wisdom of pursuing a claim against a relatively small fish like Trefuego, but that fact does not render Sony’s motivation improper or their lawsuit unreasonable.”

Sony has been chasing Trefuego in some form since January 2021, when the company notified him that it believed “90mh” was built on an illegal sample of “Reflections,” a 1986 song by Japanese composer Toshifumi Hinata. After filing takedown requests in August 2022 to get the song pulled, Sony finally launched its lawsuit that December.

In its complaint, the label pointed out that Hinata’s song had seen a recent surge of popularity after an appearance in Netflix’s 2020 film Tigertail and placement on popular ambient music playlists on Spotify.

“Trefuego brazenly sought to ride the coattails of Hinata’s creativity and popularity without regard to the United States copyright laws or the rights of plaintiffs,” the label’s attorneys wrote at the time. “He used and copied plaintiffs’ work without so much as asking, or paying a cent to plaintiffs, and he continued to exploit that music despite plaintiffs’ demand that he stop.”

Sony’s lawsuit took a bizarre detour last year when Judge Pittman ruled that the label could forgo traditional methods of contacting Trefuego and instead simply send him direct messages on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and Soundcloud. In doing so, the judge ruled that Sony had made “extensive efforts” and “gone to great lengths” to find Trefuego in real life, including “seven separate attempts” to serve him and hiring a private investigator.

In one particularly notable effort, Sony’s representatives apparently went “to his mother’s house on Mother’s Day in hopes that he would be there to celebrate with her” but still came up empty: “Sadly, he was not there, and his own mother claimed she did not know who he was,” the judge wrote.

With those procedural issues settled, Judge Pittman ruled on the case in November — and sided decisively with Sony. Though the judge noted that the case pitted “one of the largest international entertainment conglomerates on the planet” against “a twenty-year-old kid,” he ruled that the David-and-Goliath posture would not protect Trefuego from liability.

“To quote ’90mh’, this case involves a young man who was ‘too focused on getting dough’ to understand the broader implications of purchasing a creative work without proof of originality or license-to-use,” the judge wrote in his November decision. “To quote ‘90mh’ again, Trefuego likely imagined Sony wouldn’t ‘really want smoke’ enough to prosecute this claim. But they did.”

Neither Trefuego nor a spokeswoman for Sony Music responded to requests for comment.
