Chris Stapleton Passionately Delivers ‘White Horse’ & ‘Mountains of My Mind’ on ‘SNL’: Watch

Chris Stapleton returned to Saturday Night Live to perform a pair of songs from his latest album.

The 45-year-old country music star appeared for the third time as musical guest alongside host Ryan Gosling during the iconic sketch comedy show on April 13.

Wearing his signature straw cowboy, Stapleton opened with a soaring performance of the bluesy “White Horse,” which was co-produced by his wife, Morgane Stapleton, who provided backup vocals and tambourine on stage. “White Horse” appears on Stapleton’s 2023 fifth studio album, Higher, and was co-written with Semisonic’s Dan Wilson. The song also took home Grammys for best country song and best country solo performance at the 2024 ceremony in February.

The country star returned for a passionate performance of “Mountains of My Mind,” which serves as the closing track on Higher.

Higher was produced by Stapleton with Morgane Stapleton and Dave Cobb, and recorded at Nashville’s RCA Studio A. The 14-song set features work from Cobb (acoustic guitar, eclectic guitar), J.T. Cure (bass), Paul Franklin (pedal steel), Derek Mixon (drums), Morgane (background vocals, synthesizer, tambourine) and Lee Pardini (organ, piano). Ricardo Arjona’s ‘Historias’ Turns 30: All 14 Tracks Ranked

See how Billboard ranks every song on the Guatemalan superstar’s seminal 1994 album.

Ricardo Arjona has carved out a niche for himself as a socially conscious singer-songwriter who puts his heart and soul into every verse. His groundbreaking studio album Historias, released on April 14, 1994 by Sony Music, is a testament to this. 30 years later, the album has not only stood the test of time, but continues to resonate.

Certified four times platinum by the RIAA, the album’s success is undeniable. Historias marked Arjona’s debut on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart, where it reached No. 43. Some of its songs also entered the charts: “Libre” entered both Hot Latin Songs and Latin Pop Airplay, at No. 29 and No. 6, respectively. And “Señora de las Cuatro Décadas” reached No. 39 in Latin Airplay.

With each of his 14 tracks, the imaginative artist paints a vivid portrait of life’s many nuances. Each melody is a chapter and each lyric a character, from the epic tale of a cab driver’s fateful encounter in “Historia de Taxi” to the poignant exploration of the paradox of love in “Te Conozco”. Beneath a fusion of jazzy rock, pop and soulful guitar boleros, the Guatemalan maestro shines as a composer, delving deep into the human experience to reveal profound truths.

In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of this seminal work, the Billboard Latin and Billboard Español team pays tribute to the album that has aged gracefully — much like the protagonist of Arjona’s timeless track, “Señora de las Cuatro Décadas” — by ranking its 14 songs. Here our Historias ranking.

Tyler, the Creator’s Coachella Set: Childish Gambino, A$AP Rocky & More Best Moments

One year after his onetime Odd Future collaborator Frank Ocean headlined the Coachella main stage on weekend one (to general bafflement from the public), Tyler, the Creator took a crack at the festival’s Saturday headlining slot with a fierce, visually arresting performance of some of his best-loved tracks.

Throughout the rapper’s roughly 80-minute performance, he held the assembled crowd in the palm of his hand thanks to a potent combination of down-to-earth real talk, a liberal dousing of (typically racy) humor, passionate performance intensity, hard-charging rap flow, eye-catching visuals and a bevy of special surprise guests.

For the performance, which rivaled Lana Del Rey‘s Friday set in terms of theatricality, the main stage was transformed into a desert vista, centered by a broken-down trailer flanked by two rocky hillsides — one topped by a green tent and adjacent sign that ironically read, “NO CAMPING.” The projection behind the physical set was a thing of ever-changing beauty, hosting such arresting images as a desert rainstorm, a giant silvery moon against a purple sky, a fiery hellscape and a sci-fi tableau complete with flying saucer.

“Thank you for staying. I know you all are tired [after] being here all day, so thanks for staying to watch my tired ass up here,” said Tyler near the beginning of his set. But the amped-up crowd was anything but tired, energized by the rapper’s impassioned renditions of songs like “See You Again,” “EARFQUAKE,” “NEW MAGIC WAND,” “WUSYANAME” and “RUNNING OUT OF TIME.”

The impassioned performance was marked by pyrotechnics in both the literal and figurative sense, as sparks flew not only from the literal stage but between Tyler and his fiercely loyal fans, many of whom could be heard belting out the brainy rapper’s often complex lyrics right along with him.

Check out all the highlights from Tyler’s set below.

Ice Spice, No Doubt, Tyler, the Creator, Sublime & More: Best Moments From Coachella 2024 Day 2

Plus, highlights from LE SSERAFIM, Vampire Weekend, Bleachers, RAYE, Grimes, Michael Bibi & more.

If the energy on the first day of Coachella 2024 felt quiet, Saturday (April 14) came in literally and figuratively hot with daytime temperatures in the mid-90s, a lot of giddy enthusiasm and what felt like and looked like a larger crowd.

On Day 2, the masses gathered to see a dizzying number of artists, including the night’s headliner Tyler, The Creator, a reunited and exceptionally fun No Doubt, Blur, Vampire Weekend — who, to the delight and slight bewilderment of the crowd brought out Paris Hilton to play bag toss onstage during their set — and many others. The night also included its share of buzzy moments, like the surprise appearance of Billie Eilish at the festival’s Do Lab stage, where she played fans some snippets of forthcoming new racks; Olivia Rodrigo, who duetted with No Doubt and dressed as an early ’90s version of Gwen Stefani; and Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce spotted side stage for Bleachers, the group from Swift’s frequent producer Jack Antonoff, as well as in the crowd for her collaborator Ice Spice.

Like on Day 1, nighttime temperatures were particularly chilly, with many fans seen wearing brand-new Coachella hoodies from the merch stand to protect themselves from the desert wind. But everyone knows the best way to stay warm at Coachella is by dancing, which crowds were seen doing all day at performances throughout the sprawling festival crowds. Indeed, even a small 3.8-magnitude earthquake that happened miles from the festival on Day 2 didn’t affect any of the fun.

Below, you can find all the highlights form Saturday, with Friday’s recap also available and another daily roundup of highlights coming Sunday.

No Doubt’s Olivia Rodrigo Surprise, Plus More Best Moments From 2024 Coachella Reunion

When No Doubt broke through with “Just a Girl” almost 30 years ago, it was instantly clear that frontwoman Gwen Stefani wasn’t “just” anything. And at a main-stage reunion Saturday night (April 13) at Coachella, Stefani proved that the band’s debut hit — and the band itself — remains as vital as ever in its third decade.

“You tell me, but I feel like this song could be more relevant now than it’s ever been,” Stefani said to intro “Just a Girl,” which includes lyrics like “I’m just a girl, all pretty and petite/ So don’t let me have any rights.”

It’s unclear how anyone could underestimate Stefani, or womankind for that matter, after seeing the display she put on Saturday along with her band – bassist Tony Kanal, drummer Adrian Young, guitarist Tom Dumont, trombonist/keyboardist Gabrial McNair and trumpeter/keyboardist Stephen Bradley – for the one hour and 20-minute set. She was constantly running the length of the stage, or prowling the catwalk into the crowd, or high-kicking the air, or climbing the scaffolding — all while maintaining the powerhouse vocals that made No Doubt’s songs cut through the noise in the mid-’90s and beyond.

While they weren’t the day 2 headliner (that was Tyler, The Creator), No Doubt treated their performance like Saturday night’s main event, offering up a history lesson of the ska music that inspired their early sound through to their Rock Steady radio domination. And their influence remains evident, especially in surprise guest Olivia Rodrigo, who had just gushed in a Nylon cover story last week that Stefani’s songs all feel like they’re “ripped from the diary of the coolest girl you know.”

Below, find our five favorite moments from No Doubt’s Coachella reunion, from Rodrigo’s cheeky cameo to the band’s heart-warming group photo.

Cumbia, Rap and Mexican Pride: Santa Fe Klan Slays Coachella Debut

Under the blazing desert sun, chants of “Mexico” echoed through the Coachella Valley. Santa Fe Klan emerged, his accordion in hand, as a massive silver inflatable “SFK” loomed behind him. His Coachella debut on Saturday (April 13) at 4:45 p.m. PT was a memorable moment.

Kicking off with the infectious rhythm of “Cuidando El Territorio,” the rapper wasted no time amping the crowd’s energy. “¡Y arriba México, cabrones!” he shouted, igniting a wave of Mexican pride that swept through the audience at the Coachella main stage.

Sporting an oversized black jersey emblazoned with the numbers “473,” the area code of his native Santa Fe, Guanajuato, the wordsmith delivered a riveting showcase. From the gritty bars of “Cypher” to the heartfelt melodies of “Mi Vicio,” and the poetic prowess of “Luna y Mar,” he effortlessly blended rap, cumbia, and Mexican symbolism.

Accompanied by a crew of dancers clad in bulletproof vests, army cargo pants and bandanas, and a full band consisting of a drummer, bassist, guitarist and DJ, the Mexican star’s presence was undeniable. As he picked up his accordion, the crowd erupted into a frenzy, ready to dance to the infectious cumbia sonidera of “Soledad.” “Vamos a bailar cumbia,” he asserted.

But his performance was more than just music — it was a celebration of Mexican culture, the barrio life and resilience. “Con la bandera arriba, ¡que se sienta México!” he exclaimed, expressing gratitude to his fans and honoring his heritage.

Guest appearances added to the spectacle, with poet/rapper Nanpa Básico from Colombia joining SFK on stage for a soulful rap rendition of “Te Iré A Buscar.” Later, “Tornillo” took the spotlight, delivering a powerful performance of “Un Día Todo Se Termina (Remix)” alongside the star of the show.

Midway through his set, the artist took off his shirt to demonstrate his fully tattooed body with stunning portraits of Mexican idols like Chalino Sánchez and Pedro Infante.

As his set drew to a close, the Guanajuato native paid tribute to his late comrade Lefty SM with a heartfelt rendition of “Por Mi Bandera,” from their joint 2020 album Necesidad. Mexican flags waved proudly, decorating the desert as Santa Fe Klan’s growing legacy echoed through the Coachella Valley.

The day before, on Day 1 of the festival, Santa Fe Klan surprised fans during Peso Pluma’s set with an electrifying rendition of “NO SON KLLE,” cementing his status as a force to be reckoned with.

The daily word can be found somewhere in Swift’s five playlists exclusively released on Apple Music last week, which explore the five stages of heartbreak: denial (“I Love You, It’s Ruining My Life” playlist), anger (“You Don’t Get to Tell Me About Sad” playlist), bargaining (“Am I Allowed to Cry?” playlist), depression (“Old Habits Die Screaming” playlist) and acceptance (“I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” playlist).

With one word uncovered daily, the full message is to be revealed on April 18, the day before Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department is here.

On day one, Saturday (April 13), Swift’s Taylor Nation team hinted at where to get started via an Instagram Story that seemed to … glitch.

It didn’t take long for Swifties to discover that the first word is hidden in the lyrics of “Glitch,” which is featured on Swift’s “I Love You, It’s Ruining My Life” playlist on Apple Music. Taylor Nation shared some of those fan findings on X, formerly Twitter.

The letters H, E, Y, B, E and R were randomly capitalized throughout the lyrics of “Glitch.”

Unscramble those letters, and the first word from the message is revealed: Hereby.

Jewel Reveals How Olivia Rodrigo Duet Happened & Why Their Meetup Made Her Cry

Olivia Rodrigo invited Jewel to her stage in New York City earlier this week for a live performance of “You Were Meant for Me,” Jewel’s 1995 hit from her debut album, Pieces of You. On Saturday (April 13), Jewel explained exactly how that happened, and why linking up with the young Guts singer was so emotional for her.

“Her team reached out a little bit before [the show],” Jewel told fans about her Madison Square Garden appearance in a video uploaded to Instagram Saturday afternoon. “And I was excited because I was a fan of Olivia. I’ve been watching her career.”

She continued, “I became aware of her I think during ‘Drivers License.’ I liked her ’90s aesthetic. It’s a little edgy but very approachable — and she’s writing. She’s writing these songs, and I love them. So I was excited to go out, I was excited to meet her.”

At Rodrigo’s April 9 concert, the last of four Sour Tour shows at the New York venue, the pop star introduced Jewel to her fans by sharing that she would listen to Pieces of You before she went to sleep when she first started getting into songwriting herself.

In Saturday’s video, Jewel referenced her own experience in the music industry, noting, “Something a lot of people don’t realize or talk about in this industry is just how toxic it is. I’m very lucky, we’re all very lucky to get to do our job, but nobody talks about how toxic it is. This industry is like interacting with a poison. You have to have a plan. People will care if you’re famous, people will care if you’re making money … But nobody cares if you’re a good person. Nobody cares if you’re happy.”

The singer-songwriter got teary-eyed as she shared her first impression of Rodrigo after meeting her at Madison Square Garden.

“She’s a good person. She’s grounded and she’s heartfelt,” Jewel said, adding that “it really made me want to meet her parents.”

Fortunately for her, Rodrigo’s mom was there — and Jewel said meeting her turned out to be “the thing that I loved the most.”

Jewel says that some of her favorite songs by Rodrigo include Sour hit “Deja Vu” and Guts‘ “Vampire.”

On her post, she added the following caption: “Yes. I cry musing about @oliviarodrigo. I can’t help it. I care so deeply about how women evolve in this industry. I love supporting women in this biz- lord knows we need all the support we can get. Esp learning how to navigate an industry that often chews folks up – that’s why I’m so proud of her and why I loved meeting her mom … her mom cried she met me… it was such s full circle moment … my music touched her mom when she was young, and she raised Olivia on my music, and then there we all were backstage tearing up about how wild life is.”
