YG Readies Doe Boy-Assisted Just Re’d Up North American Tour: Here Are the Dates

The entire West Coast is back outside thanks to Kendrick Lamar‘s scathing Billboard Hot 100-topping “Not Like Us,” and YG is ready to bring that energy across North America. On Monday (May 20), the “Big Bank” rapper announced his upcoming Just Re’d Up tour, which will kick off on June 28 in his hometown of Los Angeles, and concludes on Aug. 17 in Hawaii.

Assisted by fellow L.A. native DJ Vision and Cleveland rapper Doe Boy — who earned his first unaccompanied Billboard hit with this year’s “Way Too Long” (No. 29 on Rhythmic Airplay) — YG’s Just Re’d Up tour will visit major cities such as Chicago, New York and Houston. YG shared the official tour poster — which features his sunglasses-clad face emblazoned across a $100 bill with a suggestive image of two women mirrored on each sides of the frame — on his official Instagram page. “Let me know what songs yall wanna hear in the [comments],” he captioned the post

In line with recent concert dress codes such as Beyoncé‘s silver cowboy attire, Harry Styles‘ feather boas and Taylor Swift‘s friendship bracelets, YG’s tour poster suggested that “everybody wear black.”

Ticket presale for the Just Re’d Up tour launched Tuesday (May 21) at 10 a.m. PT, while the Spotify presale commences on Wednesday (May 22) at 10 a.m. PT. General public sale begins Friday (May 24) at 10 a.m. PT; fans can find more tour information on YG’s official 4Hunnid website.

The new tour marks YG’s first headlining trek since 2019’s Stay Dangerous tour, which he launched in support of his 2018 LP of the same name. Stay Dangerous reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200, his third of five consecutive top 10 titles on the ranking. Last year, YG was slated to mount the Str8 to the Klub tour alongside Grammy-nominated rappers Tyga and Saweetie, but those dates were quietly canceled.

The Just Re’d Up tour marks a new era for YG, who recently signed a multi-album deal with BMG under his 4Hunnid Records label. On April 26, he unleashed the blazing, West Coast-indebted “Knocka,” laying the foundation for his forthcoming seventh solo studio album.

In addition to his five Billboard 200 top 10 projects — including 2014’s No. 2-peaking My Krazy Life — YG has earned more than 20 Hot 100 hits, including “Don’t Tell ‘Em” (No. 6, with Jeremih), “My Hitta” (No. 19, with Jeezy and Rich Homie Quan), “Big Bank” (No. 16, with 2 Chainz, Big Sean and Nicki Minaj), “Who Do You Love?” (No. 54, with Drake) and “Toot It And Boot It” (No. 67).

AI Music Firm Suno Raises $125M in Latest Funding Round

Suno, a generative AI music company, has raised $125 million in its latest funding round, according to a post on the company’s blog. The AI music firm, which is one of the rare start-ups that can generate voice, lyrics and instrumentals together, says it wants to usher in a “future where anyone can make music.”

Suno allows users to create full songs from simple text prompts. While most of its technology is proprietary, the company does lean on OpenAI’s ChatGPT for lyric and title generation. Free users can generate up to 10 songs per month, but with its Pro plan ($8 per month) and Premier plan ($24 per month), a user can generate up to 500 songs or 2,000 songs, respectively, on a monthly basis and are given “general commercial terms.”

The company names some of its investors in the announcement, including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Nat Friedman and Daniel Gross, Matrix and Founder Collective. Suno also says it has been working closely with a team of advisors, including 3LAU, Aaron Levie, Alexandr Wang, Amjad Masad, Andrej Karpathy, Aravind Srinivas, Brendan Iribe, Flosstradamus, Fred Ehrsam, Guillermo Rauch and Shane Mac.

Trending on Billboard

Suno is commonly believed to be one of the most advanced AI music models on the market today, but in past interviews, the company has not disclosed what materials are included in its training data. Expert Ed Newton-Rex, founder of Fairly Trained and former vp of audio for Stability AI, warned in a recent piece for Music Business Worldwide that it seems likely that Suno was trained on copyrighted material without consent given the way he has been able to generate music using the model that closely resembles copyrights.

In a recent Rolling Stone story about the company, investor Antonio Rodriguez mentioned that Suno’s lack of licenses with music companies is not a concern to him, saying that this lack of such licenses is “the risk we had to underwrite when we invested in the company, because we’re the fat wallet that will get sued right behind these guys.… Honestly, if we had deals with labels when this company got started, I probably wouldn’t have invested in it. I think that they needed to make this product without the constraints.”

Suno representatives have previously said, however, that their model will not let anyone create music by using prompts like “ballad in the style of Radiohead” or employ the voices of specific artists.

Many AI companies, including OpenAI, argue that training on copyrights without licenses in place is “fair use,” but the legality of this practice is still being determined in the United States. The New York Times has launched a lawsuit against OpenAI for training on its copyrighted archives without consent, credit or compensation, and Universal Music Group, Concord, ABKCO and other music publishers have filed a lawsuit against Anthropic for using its lyrics to train the company’s large language model.

In the Suno blog post, CEO Mikey Shulman wrote: “Today, we are excited to announce we’ve raised $125 million to build a future of music where technology amplifies, rather than replaces, our most precious resource: human creativity.”

“We released our first product eight months ago, enabling anyone to make a song with just a simple idea,” he continued. “It’s very early days, but 10 million people have already made music using Suno. While GRAMMY-winning artists use Suno, our core user base consists of everyday people making music — often for the first time.

“We’ve seen producers crate digging, friends exchanging memes and streamers co-creating songs with stadium-sized audiences. We’ve helped an artist who lost his voice bring his lyrics back to life again after decades on the sidelines. We’ve seen teachers ignite their students’ imaginations by transforming lessons into lyrics and stories into songs. Just this past weekend, we received heartwarming stories of mothers moved to tears by songs their loved ones created for them with a little help from Suno.”

August Moon, Fictional Boy Band in Anne Hathaway Film ‘The Idea of You,’ Debuts on Billboard’s Charts

August Moon is a global sensation in the new Prime Video rom-com The Idea of You. And now, the group is officially a Billboard-charting act.

The film centers around Solène Marchand, played by Anne Hathaway, a 40-year-old single mother who has a meet-cute at Coachella with Hayes Campbell, a member of the boy band August Moon portrayed by Nicholas Galitzine. Despite their 16-year age difference, the two begin a whirlwind romance.

The soundtrack to the film is billed to August Moon. As such, and despite being a fictional act, the group scored its first Billboard entry on charts dated May 18 when the soundtrack debuted at No. 7 on Heatseekers Albums, as well as No. 11 on the Soundtracks chart, with 5,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. May 3-9, according to Luminate. On charts dated May 25, the set places at Nos. 10 and No. 18 on the rankings, respectively.

The soundtrack also sparked the group to a No. 35 arrival on the May 18 Emerging Artists chart. The 11-track album includes seven original recordings, plus acoustic versions and remixes. Its breakout song, “Dance Before We Walk,” has raked in 2.6 million on-demand official U.S. streams through May 16.

Mixxie Mayor Eric Adams Might Revoke Diddy’s Key To The City

New York City Mayor Eric Adams isn’t exactly on the good side of the great people of the city that never sleeps. But it seems like he’s finally said something that all New Yorkers can get behind as he’s floated the idea of revoking Sean “P. Diddy” Comb’s key to the city.

As reported by PIX11, the embattled Mayor of the Big Apple was disgusted and appalled by the video of Diddy assaulting his then girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, and is actually thinking about taking back the key to the city that Diddy was blessed with just last year. At the time he was given the key to the city, Diddy had yet to get hit with the lawsuits from both Cassie and Lil Rod who have accused the Bad Boy Records founder of all kinds of disturbing actions including sex trafficking.

Though Diddy had maintained his innocence throughout the last few months, the video of him beating on Cassie in a hotel hallway was enough for everyone to turn their backs on him, and elicit an apology) and it seems like Mayor Eric Adams will be the latest to do so.

PIX11 reports:

“I think all of us were deeply disturbed by watching that chilling video of the young lady being assaulted by him. The committee and the team have never rescinded a key before, but we are now sitting down to see what the next steps forward are going to be,” Adams said.

Adams said he and his team will come up with a final determination at a later date.

Diddy, currently under federal investigation and facing widespread allegations of abuse and sexual assault, apologized for his behavior in the video and said he’s “committed to be a better man.”

Too little too late, Diddler.

Whether or not Diddy actually has to physically give back the key is anyone’s guess. Lord knows it doesn’t actually open any doors anywhere, but it will be interesting to see what kind of statement Adams releases once it’s decided and whether or not Diddy will mail back the key he was given in 2023.

Tems Performs Silky ‘Born in the Wild’ & ‘Love Me JeJe’ Medley on ‘The Tonight Show’

Tems is set to make 2024 her most dominant year in music yet. The Nigerian singer-songwriter pulled up to The Tonight Show on Monday (May 20), where she performed a two-track medley as the musical guest for the night.

Wearing a glossy vanilla-white bodysuit hugging her curves, Tems shined bright in front of the amber sunset backdrop alongside her live band and supporting vocalists in black sports jackets and matching suit pants.

The 28-year-old performed the luscious “Born in the Wild,” which is the as yet unreleased title track to her heavily anticipated debut album slated to arrive on June 7 via Since ’93/RCA Records.

With the sunset backdrop taking on more of a violet color, Tems turns the temperature up a few notches for the groovy “Love Me JeJe.” The track serves as a reimagining of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 hit by the same name.

Earlier in May, Tems made it official that her Born in the Wild debut would be landing in June. “This is my most special moment. Everything I have I put into this. Thank you all so much for believing in me,” she wrote on Instagram.

Shortly after the project arrives, Tems will be hitting the road for the Born in the Wild World Tour with support from OVO singer Naomi Sharon and Lekan. The 31-date trek kicks off in London on June 12 and runs through Europe, North America, Africa and Asia before finishing up in Australia with three November shows in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.

Tom Hank Reaches Out To Son, Shabba Hanks aka Chet Hanks For A Breakdown of The Drake/ Kendrick Lamar Beef

Professional Jamaican cosplayer Chet Hanks was the perfect person to help break down the Drake/Kendrick Lamar beef with his dad and beloved actor Tom Hanks.

Tom Hanks is one of the few caucasians whose Black card has not been revoked, but he isn’t afraid to admit that he needs to be brought up to speed on Black business.

Case in point: The Toy Story star was deeply curious about the now-ended beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, which led to the Compton MC forcing the Canadian superstar to seemingly wave the white flag and ask his favorite Jafaican son, Chet Hanks, to break it all down for him.

Hanks shared a delightful text conversation between himself, aka “Big Main,” and his very famous dad, whom he affectionately labeled “Pops.”

Here is a breakdown of the conversation per BuzzFeed:

Tom: Big Main, can you explain the Drake/Kendrick Lamar feud to me?

Chet: Yeah, so Drake and this other dude J Cole been saying they along with Kendrick are the “Big 3” in Rap. Then Kendrick put out a song saying, “Fuck the Big 3, it’s just big ME” initiating the beef. Then Drake was like, “you got small feet cuz you’re like 5 foot 5 or whatever.” And then Kendrick was like, you’re a dead beat dad and made fun of his Canadian accent.

So Drake came back and was like, “oh yeah! Well I heard you beat your wife” but literally like 30 seconds later Kendrick put out a diss overshadowing Drakes diss where he pretty much methodically dismantled Drakes entire psyche and called him a pedophile for flirting with young girls and revealing Drake had another kid that he was hiding from the world, which turned out to be false, and Drake came back and was like, “hahaha I gotcho ass I had people give you false info to make you look stupid” but it didn’t even matter cuz then Kendrick just dropped another West Coast banger where he really went in on labeling Drake a pedophile that was pretty much the sonic equivalent of when you took me to your high school in Oakland and we walked in on the basketball game and everybody started going nuts.

Like if you heard it you would just automatically know how to Crip walk with a stank face while clutching an Oscar in each hand with Marshawn Lynch, then dap him up and tell him “Town Bidness” which solidified the win not only for Kendrick but the entire West Coast.

Tom: Holy cow! These are fighting words. People taking sides?? Who’s winning??

Chet: Did you not just read what I said (crying laughing emojis)

Social Media Loved Seeing Tom Hanks So Interested In The Beef

Now, we are not going to gloss over Chet Hanks, who was also accused of domestic violence by his ex, Kiana Parker.

Still, we loved seeing Tom Hanks being so curious about the drama between K. Dot and Drizzy.

X, formerly Twitter, was also here for the voice of our favorite toy cowboy, Woody, asking his son to explain why King Kendrick was dissing Drake.

One person on Elon Musk’s social media platform wrote, “petition to have tom hanks and chet hanks start a podcast called big main where chet explains extremely online things to his dad and it helps out other olds not necessarily like me but almost exactly like me.”

Another user added, “Tom Hanks calling Chet Big Main tells me that Tom loves and accepts his ridiculous son for who he is.”

You can see more reactions in the gallery below.

1. Yes, with a lot of Tom Hanks, not his son. Just saying.

2. We agree

3. Signs of a great father.

4. He definitely did.

17-Year-Old Rapper Rylo Huncho Killed in Self-Inflicted Gun Accident While Reportedly Filming Video

Police in Suffolk, Va., are investigating the manner of death of 17-year-old rapper Rylo Huncho. The spokesperson said the MC (whose real name was not available at press time) died of his injuries at a local hospital. Officials were investigating the incident as an accident, but police are not providing the name of the deceased, or further details, because he was a juvenile. A preliminary investigation has led officials to believe Huncho’s death was accidental due to the self-inflicted injury, though the spokesperson said officials are not releasing full details for now because self-inflicted gunshot wounds could also be considered an act of suicide.

The police also would not confirm or comment on a New York Post report that Huncho accidentally killed himself while filming a TikTok music video when he pointed a gun at his head and pulled the trigger. A video on social media appears to show Huncho dancing with a handgun with a green laser sight on it, pointing it at his forehead and pulling the trigger before falling out of the frame.

The teen’s family posted a GoFundMe (“Support for Grieving Aunt After Tragic Loss“), which has so far raised just over $3,000 of a $15,000 goal. “Hello , my aunt recently lost her 17 year old son from a self inflicted gun wound to the head,” reads the message. “He was her only son ! She was a single parent but took care of her son the best she could. Suicide/accidental was the cause of his death we are still trying to figure out why . But anything I mean anything can help her at this time of need . He was her only child she was also an only child it was always her and her son . Anything can help ! Please keep my family in your prayers thank you so much.”

Rylo Huncho released his latest single, “Getta’s,” earlier this month, the follow-up to previous singles “Money Getta,” “DOA” and “La la la.”

Frida Kahlo Museum Clarifies Clothes Worn by Madonna in a Post Are Not Part of Its Collection

The clothes, photos and objects related to the iconic painter Frida Kahlo that Madonna wears in a series of photographs shared on her social media are not part of the collection of the Frida Kahlo Museum, the Mexico City institution clarified on Monday (May 20) in a press release.

Kahlo’s museum, also knows as La Casa Azul, issued the statement after the pop superstar posted a series of snapshots in which she wears a dress with floral details and an embroidered blouse, a rebozo (a very popular shawl in Mexico) and a white hat, as well as photographs of Kahlo, a pair of old shoes and jewelry that suggest they could be objects of the iconic late painter.

“A Beautiful Souvenir -visiting the family home of my Eternal Muse- Frida Kahlo in Mexico City”, wrote Madonna on her Instagram account Monday. “For me it was magical to try on her clothes and jewelry, to read her journals and letters and to look at photos I’d never seen before.”

Trending on Billboard

“It is important to clarify that, contrary to what has been mentioned in social media, Madonna, due to scheduling constraints, was unable to visit La Casa Azul during her recent visit to Mexico,” said the museum in a statement. “However, we had the opportunity for her family and staff to enjoy the museum.”

It did not specify, however, whether the Kahlo-related objects were lent during a private visit that the pop icon made to the painter’s family home in El Pedregal neighborhood on April 18.

Madonna has not yet commented on the information provided by La Casa Azul.

The Queen of Pop performed a series of shows at the capital’s Palacio de los Deportes at the end of April as part of her worldwide Celebration Tour, an occasion she used to reiterate her love for Mexican culture and especially for Kahlo. During her visit to the Kahlo family, the star wrote an emotional dedication in the guest book expressing how much the painter had inspired her, and that she considers Kahlo “a soul mate,” according to the newspaper Reforma.

La Casa Azul also expressed on Monday its gratitude toward Madonna for her dedication to celebrating and perpetuating the legacy of the painter of “The Two Fridas” and “Self-Portrait With Monkey”: “The singer’s deep admiration for Frida highlights the ongoing relevance of the artist and also underscores how her influence transcends cultures and borders, inspiring global admirers.”

Madonna expressed her passion for Kahlo furthermore by inviting Mexican actress Salma Hayek to appear on stage during her performance of “Vogue” on April 26 at the Palacio de los Deportes. The actress, who earned an Oscar nod for best actress for her portrayal of the painter in 2002’s Frida, joined the singer as a guest judge of the tour dancers dressed in a costume inspired by Kahlo.
