Camila Cabello Honors Her Mom at Billboard Latin Women in Music 2024: ‘She Inspires Infinite Strength’

Camila Cabello made sure to shout out the women who have impacted her life and career during her speech at the Billboard Latin Women in Music 2024 gala, where she was honored with the Global Impact Award.

Speaking in both English and Spanish, Cabello spoke with great emotion about her mother, who was present at the music special, which aired on Sunday night (June 9): “I was thinking about what to say tonight here in front of you and I decided to take this moment to thank my mom. Honestly, I had never taken a moment to talk about her like this, so I wanted to do it tonight.”

Cabello praised her mother’s strength and her ability to comfort her in difficult times. “When the world is suffering, the headlines make my chest hurt with news of war and death with dangerous amounts of lack of compassion, my mom reminds me that there is love in this world,” she expressed. “She inspires me with that infinite strength that just being herself, transmits her endless energy and encourages my sister and me no matter how exhausted she is. She shows me that there is hope in this world. Her best advice is not something she says but something she practices; her kindness, empathy and, most importantly, how she treats people.”

The “I Luv It” singer was among this year’s Latin Women in Music honorees, which also included superstars Kali Uchis, Gloria Estefan, Kany García, Ángela Aguilar, Ana Bárbara and Karol G. In her speech, Cabello made sure to recognize their contributions to music and express her love for Estefan, whom she also shouted out numerous times throughout her speech.

“I feel very honored to share this award with these incredible women. Gloria Estefan, I mean, are you kidding? Karol G, Ana Bárbara, Ángela Aguilar, Kany García, La India, Kali Uchis. I love you guys, you guys are amazing. You all have been and are a source of inspiration for me and other women, so I salute you. I love you, Gloria!”

Of course, she also thanked her fans, for whom she had some advice: “I would like to tell them not to underestimate the power of their actions, be kind to the shy new kid at school, stand up for a friend who is being bullied and get involved with the cause you care about. Every act of kindness creates a chain reaction.”

Cabello added: “I am grateful every day to be Cuban and Mexican and from Miami. I’m proud to represent young people with stories like mine, to be proof of possibility. I’m here because of the kindness and generosity of so many people and I remind myself every day to pass it on. I love you mommy and I love you all so much. And I love you Gloria Estefan.”

Ángela Aguilar Accepts Musical Dynasty Award at Billboard Latin Women in Music: ‘I’m Still Trying to Find Who I Am’

At only 20 years old, Ángela Aguilar received the Musical Dynasty award at the 2024 Billboard Latin Women in Music gala for continuing the legacy of an emblematic family in Mexican music that includes her father, Pepe Aguilar, and her grandparents Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre.

After a sublime performance of an old song of her father’s, “Me Vas a Extrañar,” accompanied only by the piano of Arthur Hanlon, the Mexican star – in a romantic and floaty white dress with blue flowers – was surprised by her dad, who from Japan sent a video message expressing the great pride he feels for his daughter.

“A lot of thoughts come to mind from when she was little, two and a half years old when I started training her, I started teaching her how to sing, when I started teaching her the craft that my parents taught me and that I am sure that she will follow it just as I have followed it,” said Pepe Aguilar. “I think they are people who lead and continue to lead the Aguilar dynasty, like her brother [Leonardo], in a very dignified way. Congratulations daughter.”

Moved and with a maturity beyond her years, Ángela expressed feeling “a great relief and a great privilege” to be part of a family that has already experienced everything she is preparing to experience.

“I feel like they grab me, hug me, and take care of me and lead me on the right path. And not only with words but with actions,” she expressed with aplomb. “With my grandmother I learned to be a good woman, with my mother I learned to always express myself. My father taught me that what you don’t know how to say with words you know how to sing. I am very grateful to be able to receive this because I know that this is not because of me, but it is due to generations of sweat in the throat, sleepless nights, and composed melodies.

“More than anything, I want to thank the people who have supported me, because between this great legacy and this great last name, I am still trying to find who I am among all of it,” she concluded.

In its second annual edition, Billboard Mujeres en la Música also honored Karol G as Woman of the Year, Gloria Estefan as Legend, La India as Pioneer, Ángela Aguilar with the Musical Dynasty Award, Camila Cabello with the Global Impact award, Kany García as Spirit of Change and Kali Uchis as Rising Star.

In addition to airing on Telemundo on Sunday, the ceremony is also available on the Telemundo app and Peacock.

“You know how much switching my hair up matters to me,” Rihanna explained in a social media post announcing Fenty Hair on June 4. “I’ve had almost every texture, color, length, from weaves to braids to natural- so I am launching a flexible line of products for not only every hair want, but every single product is designed to strengthen and repair all types of hair, which is what we truly need! It’s time to play and get stronger by the style.”

To get you ready for the new drop, here’s a short rundown of Fenty Hair and when and where to shop the new collection.

What Is Fenty Hair?

Fenty Hair is a haircare line made for “all hair types.” Rihanna partnered with “the best chemist and best stylist in the industry” to create a product lineup for curly hair, wavy hair of all lengths and styles.

“Everyone can find a go-to within this lineup,” she explains in a promo video. “From my curly hair people to those who love protective styles, to those with short or wavy hair. Short hair or long hair, there’s something for you. There’s no limit to what your hair can do when it’s healthy and thriving.”

Fenty Hair Product Lineup

The full product lineup will be revealed soon, but Fenty Hair has been teasing a few of the products that fans can expect to see, along with a peak at the packaging and what it’ll smell like.

“One of the most important parts of creating this line for me was getting the fragrance right,” Rihanna shares in another promo video. “I love fragrances so much and I wanted Fenty Hair to smell incredible. Like you just can’t stop smelling your hair throughout the day, and when you’re lying next to your boo at night.”

Fenty Hair features notes of amber, lemon, sparkling yuzu, florals and coconut.

“I like to describe the scent as a warm, ambery floral. It has a rich, luxurious vibe to it,” adds Rihanna. “You’re met with the top notes of amber, lemon and sparkling yuzu and then you get down to the heart of the scent notes of lily, freesia and coconut.”

The line features a proprietary complex called Replinicore 5, which according to Rihanna, has been clinically tested to repair, strengthen and hydrate the hair.

Some of the Fenty Hair products that have been spotted so far include The Richer One, a moisture repair deep conditioner and The Home Curl, a curl-defining cream. And based on the promo videos and photos, Fenty Hair will likely feature shampoo and edge control.

Fenty Hair Packaging

Rihanna’s style eye goes beyond fashion; she also has an eye for bottle design. The billionaire beauty maven’s Fenty Hair products feature pastel green, purple, peach, pink and blue bottles of sustainable packaging and textured tops — making it easier to grab the products when your eyes are full of suds, as Rihanna pointed out.

“I’m obsessed with how cute the packaging is,” she admits in a Fenty Hair video. “Our packaging was made with sustainability in mind. My favorite feature? The textured caps, and also [it’s] such a nice little sensory tip when you’re in the shower with shampoo in your eye and you want to grab the next .”

When Will Fenty Hair Be Released?

Fenty Hair will be released on Thursday, June 13, but if you want to be first in line to shop the new collection, there’s still time left to sign up for early access. Fans who sign up now can shop the collection starting on Monday, June 10.

Kali Uchis Brings Class & Jazz to Billboard Latin Women in Music 2024

Kali Uchis was a woman of few words at the Billboard Latin Women in Music 2024 gala, where she let her music speak for her as she was honored as Rising Star on Sunday (June 9)’s telecast. Although her acceptance speech was the shortest of the night, the Colombian-American singer-songwriter shined with a class-act performance.

Uchis, in a long black dress and her hair in an updo, performed a stripped-down version of her hit “Igual Que un Ángel,” originally recorded with Peso Pluma and part of her latest Spanish-language album, Orquídeas, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on Top Latin Albums.

Accompanied only by piano and trumpet, the Grammy winner showcased her voice with a jazzy arrangement that added elegance to the show. Moments after her performance, Peso Pluma appeared on screen to present, through a video, the award to his “friend,” whom he called “a talented and multifaceted woman who even took me out of my comfort zone.”

“Many thanks to Billboard and many thanks, first of all, to God for this life, for giving me the opportunity to always grow, and to my fans,” Uchis said, as she received a standing ovation from the audience.

John Parra/TELEMUNDO

Singer, songwriter and producer Kali Uchis has successfully alternated between English and Spanish-language projects, and has defied musical genres by blending elements of R&B, neo-soul, pop and Latin rhythms. Her smash hit “Telepatía” has more than two billion plays and is the longest Spanish-language song by a solo artist on the Billboard Hot 100 this decade, with a 23-week streak.

In its second annual edition, Billboard Latin Women in Music also honored Karol G as Woman of the Year, Gloria Estefan as Legend, La India as Pioneer, Ana Bárbara with the Lifetime Achievement Award, Ángela Aguilar with the Music Dynasty Award, Camila Cabello with the Global Impact Award, and Kany García with the Spirit of Change Award.

In addition to airing on Telemundo on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT, the ceremony is also available on the Telemundo app and Peacock.

Ana Bárbara Kicks Off Billboard Latin Women in Music 2024 With Spectacular Medley

Ana Bárbara is known for her spectacular performances and for taking over the stage. On Sunday night (June 9), she did it in spades, opening the second edition of Billboard Latin Women in Music with an impressive medley that included “Te Regalo la Lluvia,” “Los Caminos e la Vida,” “Qué Poca” and “La Trampa” accompanied by a live band of 13 musicians that included brass, guitars and accordion.

Ana Bárbara not only sang, including songs written by herself, but she danced, accompanied by a battalion of 12 dancers (six women, six men).

It was a spectacle worthy of the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for her 30-year exemplary career as a singer and songwriter. Ana Bárbara took the stage dressed in a long pink sequin cape, which she shed to reveal a pink bodysuit and chaps, a look few people can pull off.

But in the end, what stood out most was an exceptional voice.

In addition to airing on Telemundo on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, the ceremony is also available on the Telemundo app and Peacock.

Kany García Honored With Spirit of Change at Billboard Latin Women in Music 2024, Dedicates Award to Pride Month

Kany García, a lifelong champion of change and social justice, was honored with the Spirit of Change award at the Billboard Latin Women in Music 2024 gala, which aired Sunday from Miami’s Telemundo Center.

Accompanied by an eight-piece pop/rock band, the Puerto Rican singer-songwriter performed her new autobiographical song “García” and her hit “Te Lo Agradezco.” García, who is experiencing a particularly successful moment, coming off a great tour and about to start another, received her Spirit of Change award from her compatriot and friend Tommy Torres, who introduced her as “a great artist and a great human being,” “whom I consider a great friend.”

García, visibly moved, reciprocated with her own words: “How nice to receive any award in the hands of someone I love deeply like my dear Tommy Torres,” she said.

García then spoke in more depth about the meaning of this award: “It’s time for us to talk more,” she said. “It’s time for us to not only sing and dance and have a great time. It’s time for us to talk more. It’s time for us to use the microphone not only to entertain. We women have experienced such a brutal and incredible imbalance, which is why we’re fighting for something that comes very easily to us. That is why as a woman, being hand in hand with each of the people I see sitting here, receiving this award [is so important].

“I dedicate this to LGBQT+ month, our community’s month,” added García.

In its second annual edition, Billboard Latin Women In Music also honored Karol G as Woman of the Year, Gloria Estefan as Legend, La India as Pioneer, Ana Bárbara with the Lifetime Achievement Award, Ángela Aguilar with the Musical Dynasty award, Camila Cabello for Global Impact and Kali Uchis as Rising Star.

Fans Choose Jung Kook’s ‘Never Let Go’ as This Week’s Favorite New Music

Jung Kook‘s “Never Let Go” tops this week’s new music poll.

Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (June 7) on Billboard, choosing the BTS star’s solo track as their favorite new music release of the past week, a week full of hot new pop tunes.

Jung Kook’s brand-new song brought in a whopping 79% of the vote, with the BTS ARMY coming in strong to show their support. Voters this week chose “Never Let Go” over new music releases from Sabrina Carpenter, Zach Bryan feat. Noeline Hofmann, Charli XCX, Gracie Abrams, Tems and RAYE.

BTS star Jung Kook gets sentimental on his single “Never Let Go,” the first new solo tune fans have heard since the release of his 2023 debut album, Golden, which launched at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart last year. The new song is dedicated to BTS’ beloved supporters, affectionately called ARMY, and conveys “a sincere message to never let go of each other,” according to HYBE.

“Oh, every day, I wonder if this all is just a dream,” Jung Kook sings on the sweet track. “Everything falls into place ’cause you’re right here with me/ Without your love, I’m nothing/ You mean more than you know/ And words escape me whenever you’re close/ I tried to put it into words but it don’t measure up/ My pen and paper could never do quite enough/ It’s the truth, it’s the truth/ We got something rеal nothing could break.”

Trending on Billboard

Jung Kook and fellow BTS members Jin, RM, SUGA, J-Hope, Jimin and V are currently serving in the South Korean military, which mandates an 18-month military enlistment for all able-bodied men by the time they turn 28. While on a break from activities together as BTS amid the group’s service, various solo projects have been released.

Trailing behind “Never Let Go” on this week’s poll is Sabrina Carpenter’s new single “Please Please Please,” with 8% of the vote, Zach Bryan with Noeline Hofmann on “Purple Gas,” with 3% of the vote, and Charli XCX’s Brat album, with 2% of the vote.

See the final results of this week’s new music poll below.

Billboard Presents Bud Light Backyard at CMA Fest Day Two Brings Vibrant Sets from Dasha, LOCASH and George Birge

In their early days, LOCASH earned their stripes playing the bars on Nashville’s Lower Broadway, so it was a return to their past when they took the stage at the Tin Roof to get Saturday’s party started with a rowdy, infectious, non-stop set that had the packed venue hopping from their opening tune, the 2019 hit “One Big Country Song.”

“Let’s get this party rockin’,” exclaimed Chris Lucas, as the duo followed with “Buzzin’ in the Country,” a surefire crowd pleaser with its sing-along chorus, before segueing into their first No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, 2016’s easygoing “I Know Somebody.”

Like many acts playing the event, LOCASH had a cover song in their back pocket. In this case, it was a sultry, slow-jamming take on the Prince-penned “Waterfalls,” made famous by TLC 30 years ago. The duo quickly brought it back to the present with “Hometown Home,” their first song released through the new label they started, Galaxy Label Group. “We pushed all the chips in and bet on ourselves,” Preston Brust said. And it’s paying off. The gently swaying song, which features the duo’s layered harmonies, was the Hot Shot Debut on the Country Airplay chart, bowing at No. 56.

Of all the acts playing Billboard Presents Bud Light Backyard, LOCASH got the award for traveling the most distance. Three hours before their set, the group arrived from Wisconsin, where they had played the night before, and immediately left for a show Saturday evening in Indiana.

LOCASH then called an audible and veered from the set list, diving into a breathless medley of classic rock songs, starting with The Outfield’s “Your Love,” Bryan Adams’ “Summer of ’69” and Fountains of Wayne’s “Stacy’s Mom,” before launching into Lit’s “My Own Worst Enemy” and calling up the group’s lead singer, A. Jay Popoff, who lives in Nashville, to sing with them. For those several moments of pure unadulterated joy, there is no doubt that there was not a better time to be had on Lower Broadway.  “Are we in trouble?” Lucas playfully asked after completing the rock segment. “I don’t know. I don’t care,” answered Brust.

After leading the audience in a chant of “Ain’t no party like a Billboard party because a Billboard party don’t stop,” complete with a spinning disco ball, LOCASH wound their segment down with their 2015 hit “I Love This Life,” which reached No. 2, before throwing signed drum sticks and guitar picks into the dancing crowd.

Taylor Swift Scores Seventh Straight Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200 With ‘The Tortured Poets Department’

Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department scores a seventh straight and total week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart (dated June 15), as the set earned 148,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending June 6 (down 16%), according to Luminate.

Poets is the first album to spend its first seven weeks at No. 1 since Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time led for its first 12 weeks a year ago (March 18-June 3, 2023-dated charts). Among Swift’s collection of 14 No. 1s, Poets surpasses Folklore for the most weeks at No. 1 from its debut, as Folklore spent its first six weeks atop the list (before it slipped to the No. 5 spot in its seventh frame).

Of Swift’s No. 1s on the Billboard 200, Poets matches Red for her fourth-most weeks on top. Ahead of them are 1989 and Fearless (each with 11) and Folklore (eight).

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new June 15, 2024-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on June 11. Of The Tortured Poets Department’s 148,000 equivalent album units earned, SEA units comprise 120,000 (down 10% — it’s No. 1 on Top Streaming Albums; its SEA units equal 157.26 million on-demand official streams of the deluxe edition’s 31 songs), album sales comprise 27,000 (down 35%) and TEA units comprise 1,000 (down 22%).

ATEEZ achieves its fifth consecutive, and total, top 10-charting album on the Billboard 200 as Golden Hour: Part.1 debuts at No. 2 with 131,000 equivalent album units earned (the largest week of 2024 for any K-pop album). Of that sum, album sales comprise 127,000 (the year’s biggest sales week for a K-pop album; it’s also the top-selling album of the week; it’s No. 1 on Top Album Sales), SEA units comprise 4,000 (equaling 6.15 million on-demand official streams of the set’s six songs) and TEA units comprise a negligible sum. The album’s first-week sales were supported by its availability across 31 CD variants, all containing branded paper merch and other collectibles.

Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft slips 2-3 with 117,000 equivalent album units earned (down 19%). With the top three titles on the Billboard 200 each exceeding 100,000 units earned for the week, it’s the second week in a row that the top three have all cleared at least 100,000. The last time that happened was on the Oct. 28- and Nov. 4, 2023-dated lists.

Morgan Wallen’s chart-topping One Thing at a Time is a non-mover at No. 4 on the new Billboard 200 with 71,000 equivalent album units earned (down 3%).

Shaboozey’s third album, Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going, debuts at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, marking the first chart entry from the artist. The set was ushered in by the smash single “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which has reached No. 3 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on Hot Country Songs. The album earned 50,000 equivalent album units in its first week, and of that figure, SEA units comprise 39,000 (equaling 52.66 million on-demand official streams of the set’s 12 songs, largely powered by “A Bar Song”), album sales comprise 8,000 (it was only available to purchase as a standard digital download album) and TEA units comprise 3,000.

Wallen’s former leader Dangerous: The Double Album is a non-mover at No. 6 on the new Billboard 200 with 43,000 equivalent album units earned (down 4%), Noah Kahan’s Stick Season steps 9-7 (42,000; up 5%), Future and Metro Boomin’s chart-topping We Don’t Trust You slips 7-8 (40,000; down 6%), Gunna’s One of Wun falls 8-9 (nearly 40,000; down 6%) and Zach Bryan’s self-titled former No. 1 is stationary at No. 10 (36,000; down 3%).
