Abracadabra! Eminem Makes Surprise Appearance Alongside Dr. Dre in London For ‘Houdini’ Performance

You never know where Eminem is going to pop up these days. The often reclusive rapper has been more visible lately as he promotes his latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), including a totally surprising hop-up in London on Thursday night (July 18) to support his old friend and mentor Dr. Dre.

Marshall surprised the crowd at the launch event for Dre’s new canned drinks line with Snoop Dogg, Gin & Juice, when he jumped on stage at Flippers Boogie Palace to join the party hosted by former NBA great Shaquille O’Neal. But first, Dre and Snoop rolled through a set of some of their most beloved songs, including “The Next Episode,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Nuthin’ But a G Thang” at the event attended by Lakers legend LeBron James and Idris Elba, among others, according to NME.

Near the end of the set Dre introduced Eminem, who ripped through the first single from The Death of Slim Shady, “Houdini,” before the pair moved into “2001” and “Forgot About Dre.” Em posted video from the exciting surprise mini-set of him performing a bit of his “Without Me,” writing, “London thank u!!! Had 2 pullup 4 @dreandsnoop at @flippers.world.” He also posted a gallery of photos from the night featuring images of a low rider tipped up on two wheels outside the club, as well as shots of Dre and Snoop performing and his surprise set.

Though Em has not announced a run of dates to support his new album, he will appear alongside Muse, Thirty Seconds to Mars and Richie Hawtin at this year’s Soundstorm festival in Saudi Arabia in December.

Cardi B Promises New Music Coming ‘THIS YEAR,’ Wears Nothing But Cash in ‘On Dat Money’ Video With Rob49

It’s been a see-saw summer for Cardi B fans. Just two months ago she sadly informed the Bardigang that the long-awaited follow-up to her smash debut 2018 album, Invasion of Privacy, would probably not be coming out this year because she was focusing on “relaxing” and enjoying her summer.

Then on Thursday (July 18) she appeared to have a change of heart on the eve of the release of her new collab with Rob49, “On Dat Money.” In a post on X, Cardi explained that she’s rethought the chill zone and is planning to drop new music after all. “I wanna say this to Bardi gang or anybody who’s just a fan of my music or even my craziness… I have my good days and my bad days but you know what, whether it’s good or bad I couldn’t be happier with the obvious anticipation for my album,” she wrote before dropping the good news.

“Sometimes I get a little aggressive because yall know I don’t like to be told what to do but I promise you it’s coming THIS YEAR. Thank you for the love and anticipation and always holding me down. I love yall,” she added.

Trending on Billboard

Cardi immediately made those dreams come true with her glamorous cameo in New Orleans MC Rob49’s video for “On Dat Money,” in which the rapper serves as point man in a mansion filled with exotic dancers as a torrential downpour of $100 bills rain down all around him. While Rob rapidly dispenses with his stacks, Cardi rides shotgun in his cash-piled car in Jackie O vibes, wearing oversized cat-eye sunglasses, a fur wrap, black head scarf, impossibly long black nails and bold red lipstick. Elsewhere, Cardi lounges in bed covered in bills and rocks a fire engine red miniskirt, knee-high boots and crop top jacket ensemble as Rob raps, “F–k me on that money, b–ch/ B–ch, f–k me on that money” over the song’s grinding trap beat.

Midway through Cardi gets in on the action, rapping, “Yeah, f–k me right there on that money/ I ride d–k on my feet, I be hoppin’ like a bunny/ I’m a freak, slut me out, you gon’ see me get disgustin,” in yet another one of her signature earworm features as thong-wearing dancers twirl on stripper poles behind her.

The pop-in on Rob’s song follows Cardi’s release of two loosey singles earlier this year, “Enough (Miami)” and “Like What” and a number of other features. It also comes after she slammed rapper/podcaster Joe Budden on Thursday for his critical take on the roll-out of her eagerly anticipated sophomore album in the lead-up to the Rob49 single dropping.

“Bro I gave you a lap dance two times in Starlets. You was high as f–k. High as f–k on coke, n—a… I don’t give a f–k when people talk s–t about me,” Cardi raged. “It’s the fact you always talk s–t about me Joe Budden. Out of nowhere, you would think I did something to this n—a… For the past two years, this n—a has only talked bad things about me.”

After lambasting Joe for constantly comparing other female rappers to her, Cardi got really real. “But you really want my album to come out so you can criticize it. Cause every time I drop something you don’t like it,” she said. “Every single time a b—h drops something and they doing mediocre, you say they doing better than me… What are you talking about? The s–t is in motion. Merch is in motion, the box sets is in motion. You don’t know s–t.”

On a recent pod, Budden confidently predicted that Cardi would not release another album in her carer, saying, “We’ll never get another album again. I am standing on it.”

How the ‘Twisters’ Soundtrack Become Country Strong

By today (July 19), when Universal Pictures’ Twisters blows into theaters, more than a dozen songs from the all-country soundtrack will have whirled their way onto radio and streaming services.

Propelled by first single, Luke Combs’ muscular “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma”— which is already No. 10 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart after only nine weeks — the soundtrack includes such new songs from such heavyweights at Miranda Lambert, Kane Brown, Lainey Wilson, Shania Twain and Jelly Roll, as well as burgeoning artists like Bailey Zimmerman, BRELAND, Dylan Gossett, Tucker Wetmore and Tanner Adell. Twenty of the soundtrack’s 29 tracks are featured in the movie.

A soundtrack totally devoted to country songs is still a rarity and when they have occurred, they have usually been for country-themed movies, including 1980’s Urban Cowboy, 1992’s Pure Country, 2010’s Crazy Heart or 2011’s Country Strong.

Trending on Billboard

Twisters, which stars Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones as storm chasers, is a standalone sequel to 1996’s $495 million domestic-grossing Twister, which featured a rock soundtrack. The one artist from that soundtrack who makes a return as a fun Easter egg for fans is Twain, who duets with BRELAND on “Boots Don’t.” “She had a big song [“No One Needs to Know”] from the first soundtrack, and we thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if she did one for this one,’” says Mike Knobloch, president of NBCUniversal Music and Publishing.

“We weren’t trying to recreate [the original soundtrack]. In the same way that the movie is different, we treated this initially like its own project,” he continues. “We worked closely with [director] Isaac Chung to conceive a music soundscape for the film that would be organic and authentic to where the story takes place, which is in Oklahoma,” Knobloch says. “We got to do something we don’t typically do, which is not just dabble in country music, but really lean in in an authentic way to work with Nashville writers and country artists. And not just for a song or two, but for the entire film.”

Universal and the filmmakers met with several labels about the soundtrack, but ultimately chose to work with Atlantic’s west coast president Kevin Weaver, who was coming off the tremendous success of the Barbie soundtrack, over a Nashville-based record company, and had worked on such soundtracks and original cast albums as Hamilton and The Greatest Showman.

“We know from past experiences that Kevin and his team, like us, are super-competitive and uncompromising perfectionists,” Knobloch says. “They want to take big swings like we do. It just felt like Atlantic as a partner had the right attitude. Everyone on the core team [at Atlantic] has great Nashville relationships.”

Like many labels based in New York or Los Angeles, Atlantic has been signing more country artists as the genre boom continues and Weaver says the timing was perfect. “I’ve been trying to find a really credible good vehicle to come onboard with to curate a project within the country genre,” he says. “So, this was really appealing and attractive to me. That’s how we started the dialogue about how this might make sense for us together.”

A number of Atlantic’s up-and-coming country artists appear on the soundtrack, in addition to BRELAND — including Sam Barber, Nolan Taylor and Morgan Ramsey.

Before Atlantic solicited any artists, Weaver, Chung, Knobloch and Universal Pictures’ executive vp of film music Rachel Levy met several times with Chung picking around up to 20 scenes for which he wanted original songs. Atlantic then began soliciting selected artists to write specifically for their scene based on the visual and a very detailed brief, which included tempo, tone and thematic suggestions.

“What’s really important to me when doing [soundtracks] is making sure that the music is really a character of the movie, and we’re not just trying to shoehorn songs into something for the purpose of having a soundtrack. We found that that pretty much never works,” Weaver says.

Instead, almost every song was written expressly for the film. One of the few exceptions was BRELAND and Twain’s track. “I already had my song with Shania and was looking for a good opportunity to release it, and it ended up being a good fit for the film,” BRELAND says. “It wasn’t something we were specifically writing for the soundtrack; we were just fortunate that what they were looking for was something we already had.”

BRELAND adds it was a “no-brainer” to get involved in one of the summer’s biggest movies. “I got a taste of what films can do for my career after my appearance in Roadhouse earlier this year, so it was a no-brainer when I heard about Twisters,” he says. “The original movie is a classic, and the trailer for this looked really good, so I was beyond excited when I found out they were interested in one of my songs for the soundtrack.”

One of the first artists to sign on was Wilson. “We started reaching out to artists and their teams in early January, and the momentum was incredible from the get-go,” says Atlantic senior VP of A&R at Atlantic, who worked alongside Weaver and the label’s executive vp/co-head of pop/rock A&R Brandon Davis and senior vp of A&R and marketing Joe Khoury. Within 24 hours of contacting Wilson’s manager, they showed Wilson the clip the next night following a dinner. “By that weekend, Lainey had written ‘Out of Oklahoma,’ and we instantly fell in love with the track. “

While there were artists whose schedules didn’t allow them to participate, word quickly spread in Nashville once the music team started reaching out. “Everyone seemed to be really interested and we didn’t want to leave anybody out. We had this embarrassment of riches in terms of who was answering our calls,” Knobloch says, as the soundtrack swelled to nearly 30 artists.

With so many songs, “we had to work really responsibly,” when it came to keeping the music budget under control, Knobloch says. Though he declined to name the budget, he adds that “pound for pound, country songs have fewer writers and samples than other genres of music, so maybe your dollars go a little bit further when you’re making this kind of music.”

“We had artists and managers who really leaned into what we were doing,” Weaver says. “One of the other things that was unique about this is [country] artists are not typically getting calls [asking], ‘Do you want to write a song for a $100 million Hollywood blockbuster?’ where pop artists get that call more frequently. This genre hasn’t had this opportunity to this extent in quite some time, if forever. And so, because of that, people really want to be a part of this.”

Combs’ manager says Combs was enthusiastic about taking part. “We wanted to do this because it wasn’t a remake of a classic, but a continuation of the narrative of the film, and we felt the movie was going to be an epic moment to be a part of,” says Chris Kappy. “The team at Atlantic and Universal were very professional and fun to work with, and gave Luke full creative control on the song and trusted him — so that makes it easier to let the artist create.”

Combs song, which his label Sony Music Nashville is working to country radio, is also in the trailer, which helps tie the promotion and the movie together and start what Knobloch calls a “chain reaction” of releases, including Jelly Roll’s song and video, which dropped Thursday (July 18). The marketing campaign of dropping one song a week for the past 10 weeks — plus a song day the week of release –created a long musical runway, as well as fruitful, ongoing social media campaigns. “We have really been activating in every possible way to make as big an impact and as much noise as possible over a longer period of time in the run up to the release of the film than usual,” Knobloch says.

Additionally, with the staggered releases, “more songs have the ability to have their own moment,” Weaver says, “and when they have their own moment, they perform better typically.”

Despite country music’s surging popularity these days, Knobloch stresses the goal was to make a soundtrack that is “broadly accessible,” and appealed way beyond country fans. “There were a lot of times where it didn’t really feel like we were making a country record,” he says. “We were just making great songs with great artists and writers.”

Cardi B Jabs At Joe Budden After Podcast Host Called Her A “Singles” Artist

2022 Hot 97 Summer Jam

Cardi B and Joe Budden have what appears to be a contentious connection after the famed podcast host mentioned the rapper and entertainer on a recent episode of his eponymously named podcast. After saying that Cardi B will only release singles from this point on, the Bronx star fired shots at Joe Budden in an X Spaces rant.

On episode 742 of The Joe Budden Podcast, a discussion surrounding Rob49’s new “On Dat Money” single and video featuring Cardi B cropped up with the cast pondering if a sophomore album was coming from the “Bodak Yellow” rapper. Budden quipped that Cardi won’t release an album, a refrain he has uttered in previous episodes, stating that she’s now becoming a “singles” artist.

The comments made their way to Cardi, who hopped on Spaces Thursday night (July 18) and unleashed a fiery tirade of words towards the retired lyricist and popular media personality.

“Bro I gave you a lap dance two times in Starlets,” Cardi says in leaked audio of the Spaces event. “You was high as f*ck. High as f*ck on coke, n*gga. I don’t give a f*ck when people talk sh*t about me. It’s the fact you always talk sh*t about me, Joe Budden. Out of nowhere, you would think I did something to this n*gga. For the past two years, this n*gga has only talked bad things about me.”

Starlets is a popular strip club in Queens that Budden and his castmates are known to frequent.

While it is true that Budden has been a tough critic of Cardi, he’s also heaped heavy praise and even hailed her debut album Invasion Of Privacy one of his favorite projects of the modern era along with other positive commentary.

On X, Budden fired off a string of replies stating that he’ll no longer mention Cardi on his program.

“I promise you and can assure you, i will not cover a single thing this girl does for the remainder of her career… Peace & love,” began the thread. “I have also never gotten a lap dance from this lady. I also have never done coke.”

Cardi also took to X and shared a message with her fans regarding her passionate response to Budden.

I wanna say this to Bardi gang or anybody who’s just a fan of my music or even my craziness… I have my good days and my bad days but you know what, whether it’s good or bad I couldn’t be happier with the obvious anticipation for my album..Sometimes I get a little aggressive because yall know I don’t like to be told what to do but I promise you it’s coming THIS YEAR. Thank you for the love and anticipation and always holding me down

The K-pop octet’s chart dominance continues to grow, with their previous four projects all debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. This achievement makes Stray Kids the first act to send their first four charting albums to the top spot since Alicia Keys’ run from 2001 to 2007.

Tenacious D’s Kyle Gass Deletes Trump Apology Instagram Post

Kyle Gass of Tenacious D has deleted his Instagram apology following intense backlash over a controversial comment about former U.S. President Donald Trump during the band’s Sydney concert.

The incident, which occurred on July 14, has had major repercussions for both Gass and the band.

During the performance at Sydney’s ICC Sydney Theatre, Jack Black presented Gass with a birthday cake onstage.

Trending on Billboard

When asked to make a wish, Gass quipped, “Don’t miss Trump next time,” referencing a recent assassination attempt on the former president. The remark, which initially drew laughter from the audience, quickly sparked widespread criticism.

In response to the uproar, Gass initially apologized on Instagram, stating, “I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgment. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.” However, this apology has since been removed from his account.

The fallout from Gass’s joke led to a domino effect that saw Gass dropped by his agent, and the remainder of Tenacious D‘s tour was canceled. Jack Black, Gass’s bandmate, issued a statement expressing regret and announcing the halt of all future Tenacious D activities. Black’s post, which remains on his Instagram, reads:

“I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form. “

He continued, “After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”

Frontier Touring has canceled six shows in Australia and New Zealand, including stops in Newcastle, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Wellington, and Auckland. The status of Tenacious D’s five scheduled U.S. shows in October remains uncertain.

Even Australia’s former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has become embroiled in the drama, telling news.com.au this week, “It makes me feel sick someone would joke about violence. Physically ill. People might think it’s a bit of ‘funny haha’ at a concert to run off at the mouth off about this stuff.”

“It’s not,” he said. “It’s about threats to physical life; it’s about the near assassination of a former and prospective President of the United States, depending on the votes of the American people. It’s about the murder of innocent civilians and two people being seriously wounded.”

Rudd added, “These people need to grow up and find a decent job”.

United Australia Party Senator Ralph Babet also called on the Australian federal government to deport Tenacious D in the wake of Gass’s comment.

“I call on the Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese to join me in denouncing Tenacious D, Jack Black, and band member Kyle Gass, and I call on the Immigration Minister Andrew Giles to revoke their visas and deport them immediately,” Babet said in a statement.

As of now, Gass’s most recent Instagram post features a video of a flight over Sydney Harbour with the cheeky caption: “Birthday helicopter ride around Sydney Harbour, hours before the storm.”

Jelly Roll and MGK Tease John Denver-Inspired Collab ‘Lonely Road’

Machine Gun Kelly and Jelly Roll are set to release a new collaborative single, “Lonely Road,” on July 26.

The duo, who have dubbed themselves “KellyRoll,” teased the track on social media on July 19 with a brief video clip that hints at a John Denver-inspired tune.

“Countdown to KellyRoll activated,” the artists wrote on Instagram. “Thanks to John Denver for paving the way.”

The teaser features MGK and Jelly Roll in black suits at a funeral, with snippets showing MGK being arrested and Jelly Roll kissing his wife, Bunnie XO. The song’s hook, “Lonely road, take me home. Take me home,” clearly nods to Denver’s iconic “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

The collaboration marks MGK’s first release since revisiting his Hotel Diablo album with a deluxe edition earlier this month. For Jelly Roll, it follows his recent appearance on Eminem’s new album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), where he featured on the emotionally charged track “Somebody Save Me.”

Trending on Billboard

Interestingly, Jelly Roll’s work with Eminem comes amidst the Detroit rapper’s ongoing feud with MGK. Eminem has taken several shots at MGK over the years, including digs on his latest album.

The collaboration between MGK and Jelly Roll isn’t entirely unexpected. The pair previously shared the stage at CMA Fest’s Spotify House in June, performing duets of Jelly Roll’s hit “Need a Favor” and MGK’s “My Ex’s Best Friend.” During that performance, MGK also covered the Chicks’ “There’s Your Trouble,” hinting at a potential foray into country music.

The upcoming collab could signal another shift in musical direction for MGK, who has already transitioned from rap to pop-punk in recent years. For Jelly Roll, the track follows the release of his song “Dead End Road” from the Twisters soundtrack.

“Lonely Road” is set to drop on July 26 and will be available on all major streaming platforms. You can check out the teaser below.

It’s been two years since Ivan Cornejo dropped Dañado, the album that peaked at No. 1 on Regional Mexican Albums for 37 nonconsecutive weeks, the fourth-most since the chart launched in 1985.

Today, he’s unleashed his highly-anticipated MIRADA, his first major-label debut (via Interscope Records), after offering previews like “Intercambio Injusto,” “Dónde Estás” and “Baby Please,” which debuted at No. 8 on Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart in March — his first top 10 on the tally since 2021.

Last month, the 20-year-old hitmaker from Riverside, Calif., announced the album with a cryptic post. “Ivan, do you think you’ll fall in love again?” A voice asks him as the pensive artist sits in front of a bonfire. “I don’t want to,” Cornejo quickly responds. In his Billboard digital cover story from January, Cornejo teased his third studio album saying it would be “bigger” than Dañado thanks to “improvements musically and lyrically.”

That hit gave Rich the Kid his first No. 1 and marked a major comeback after parting ways with RCA Records.

The 18-track album is executively produced by Ye and Ty Dolla $ign, bringing their Midas touch to Rich’s signature sound.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Rich explained the album’s title: “I feel like everything in life’s a gamble. You walk out the front door, you could get hit by a bus. Everything’s a gamble. I’ve taken wins and losses with my career, and I felt it was a perfect title.”

Life’s A Gamble boasts an impressive roster of guest features, including Ye, Ty Dolla $ign, Peso Pluma, Offset, Rob49, French Montana, Chief Keef, BIA, Quavo, and a posthumous appearance from Takeoff. The album includes the previously released singles “Carnival,” “Gimme a Second / Band Man,” and “Gimme a Second 2.”

Standout tracks include “Gimme a Second,” featuring Peso Pluma, “Not In the Mood” with Offset, and “Plain Jane,” which features Kanye West.

Rich the Kid has seen notable success on the Billboard charts over the years before landing his first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Carnival”.

His breakthrough came with the 2017 single “New Freezer,” featuring Kendrick Lamar, which peaked at No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2018, his debut studio album The World Is Yours reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200, driven by the hit single “Plug Walk,” which climbed to No. 13 on the Hot 100.

His subsequent albums have also performed well, with The World Is Yours 2 debuting at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 in 2019.
