Sean heard the fans and delivered another single to carry momentum heading into the project, dropping “Yes” on Friday (July 19).

Trending on Billboard

The smooth FNZ-produced track finds the G.O.O.D. Music alum scoffing at critics leaving him off their top five rapper lists. “Would rather give y’all my soul, I don’t have to sell it/ Might take a piss off your rap Mount Rushmore after I scale it/ Blue strips when I do hit the strip, know we f–kin’ it up like Elvis,” he raps.

The 36-year-old’s album clock may have been sped up due to a leak, which found an alleged 14-track project from Sean surface on the internet.

“I’m a just start droppin this new music before they leak it all BIG SEAN x THE ALCHEMIST soon,” he captioned an Instagram post July 17 in response to the alleged leak.

Sean ruffled some feathers earlier this week with his “On the Radar Freestyle” over Aaliyah’s 1996 classic “If Your Girl Only Knew.” Fans speculated who Sean Don was taking shots at when he rapped, “I got better things to do than find someone to beef with/ Or else I’m off the deep end.”

DJ Hed insinuated he was targeting his former boss Ye (formerly known as Kanye West). “I talked to Sean. The bar was ‘I got better things to do then find someone to beef with’ And it was not for Dot,” Hed tweeted. “Bar was directed at a different Gemini.” (Ye was born June 8, which makes him a Gemini.)

Sean attempted to end the speculation himself in a since-deleted Tweet: “Yall goin wit so many narratives, im talking to da haters who just keep finding something to point out they dont like bout me. Its not even worth explaining tho im a just focus on the music.”

A disgruntled person under the username Bigseandon811 didn’t take kindly to what they perceived was disrespect to Ye and allegedly went on to leak Sean’s music. “Since he wanna disrespect Ye so much, here’s the album, f–k him and his whole team,” the leaker wrote, according to Variety.

Big Sean returned to the music scene in March with his “Precision” single and has stayed busy dishing out assists for Jessie Reyez and Eminem. His last three albums have all topped the Billboard 200, so Sean will look to make it four in a row.

Morgan Wallen Claims Consecutive Country Airplay Leaders as ‘Cowgirls’ Follows ‘I Had Some Help’ to No. 1

Morgan Wallen earns his 14th No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart (dated July 27), as “Cowgirls” gallops to the winner’s circle. The track features Ernest, who earns his first leader as a recording artist, following nine as a songwriter.

The song advanced by 6% to 33.7 million impressions July 12-18, according to Luminate.

“Cowgirls” — which Ernest, Rocky Block, Ashley Gorley, James Maddocks and Ryan Vojtesak wrote — replaces Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Wallen, at No. 2 (33 million, down less than 1%), after four frames atop Country Airplay. Wallen becomes the second act in the chart’s 34-year history to log back-to-back leaders. On the surveys dated March 9 and 16, 2002, Tim McGraw first achieved the feat, as featured on Jo Dee Messina’s “Bring on the Rain” and then with his own “The Cowboy in Me.”

Meanwhile, Wallen notches a fourth week holding down the Country Airplay tally’s top two spots simultaneously, extending his record for the longest such double-up.

Plus, “Cowgirls” is from Wallen’s 2023 LP One Thing at a Time, which has dominated Top Country Albums for 55 weeks. It’s the sixth Country Airplay chart-topper from the set, following “You Proof” (10 weeks), “Thought You Should Know” (three), “Last Night” (eight), “Man Made a Bar” featuring Eric Church (one week) and “Thinkin’ Bout Me” (five).

The album is the second to generate six Country Airplay No. 1s without the assistance of a deluxe edition, after Luke Bryan first earned the honor via his 2015 collection Kill the Lights. Counting its original (five No. 1s) and deluxe versions (two), Luke Combs’ 2019 set What You See Is What You Get yielded seven leaders.

Kim Kardashian Comments on Taylor Swift-Themed Birthday Celebration for Ivanka Trump’s Daughter

On “thanK you aIMee,” Taylor Swift seemingly predicts that Kim Kardashian will never be able to escape reminders of their feud. “And one day, your kid comes home singing a song that only us two is gonna know is about you,” she sings on the Tortured Poets Department track.

As it turns out, that same logic applies to friends’ kids, as well. On Wednesday (July 17), the Skims founder commented on Ivanka Trump’s birthday post on Instagram for her daughter Arabella, side-stepping the fact that the new 13-year-old had a Swift-themed cake.

“Happy Birthday Arabella ??,” Kardashian simply wrote.

Trending on Billboard

Arabella is the oldest child of the former political advisor and Jared Kushner, who also share sons Joseph and Theodore. Her heart-shaped cake matched the one Swift tears into in her “Blank Space” music video, and featured lyrics written in icing: “Boys only want love if it’s torture.”

“Best cake for my favorite Swiftie,” Trump wrote over a photo of the dessert, which featured red icing on the inside to mimic the blood that came out of the pop star’s when she stabbed it in the 2014 video.

Kardashian’s comment comes three months after the release of “thanK you aIMee,” which was the last time Swift appeared to address her beef with the reality star. “When I picture my hometown/ There’s a bronze spray-tanned statue of you/ And a plaque underneath it/ That threatens to push me down the stairs at our school,” the 14-time Grammy winner sings on the track. “I can’t forgive the way you made me feel/ Screamed, ‘F–k you, Aimee’ to the night sky.”

A few months before that, Swift called out the shapewear mogul by name in her December TIME Person of the Year interview. “You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar,” she reflected of their 2016 conflict, which involved Ye (formerly Kanye West) including disparaging lyrics about Swift in his song “Famous” that she claimed not to have approved, though he and his then-wife insisted she had on a call between the two artists.

“That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before,” she added at the time. “I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”

Melissa Etheridge’s Failed Cannabis Startup Left Business Partners in ‘Ruin,’ Complaint Says

Melissa Etheridge is facing a legal battle over her brief foray into the cannabis business, filed by two business partners in Northern California who claim that the singer “abandoned them” and left them in “financial ruin.”

The Grammy-winning songwriter, who rose to stardom in the 1990s with hits like “Come to My Window” and “I’m The Only One,” announced in 2019 that she would launch Etheridge Farms, which aimed to bring the benefits of cannabis to middle-aged women. “They’re looking to cannabis, and I want Etheridge Farms to be right there to answer what they’re looking for,” the singer said at the time.

But five years later, her former business partners now claim that Etheridge and her wife effectively torpedoed the company by refusing to support it. In a legal petition filed July 9 and obtained by Billboard, Josephine and D’Angelo Roberto say they’ve been “left with nothing.”

Trending on Billboard

“The Robertos trusted the Etheridges and invested their life’s work into the businesses,” writes attorney Christopher Frost of the law firm Frost LLP, representing the Robertos. “Unfortunately, their hard work did not end in a success story, but rather betrayal and abandonment.”

The filing is a demand for arbitration, which initiates a litigation-like case that will play out similar to a lawsuit. But such cases, often required under corporate operating agreements, are decided by an arbitrator behind closed doors rather than by a judge in an open courtroom.

Representatives for the Etheridges, including their attorney who received the arbitration demand, did not return repeated requests for comment on the dispute. Attorneys for the Robertos declined to comment.

A Budding Partnership

The Robertos (nicknamed Jozee and Cricket) say they met Etheridge and her wife Linda Wallem-Etheridge via mutual friends in Northern California in 2017, and that the foursome then hatched a plan to launch a series of cannabis businesses, including Etheridge Farms and Etheridge Botanicals. In a 2019 article in San Jose’s Mercury News, the singer said she had been inspired in part by using cannabis amid a battle with breast cancer in the 2000s.

“I came out of chemotherapy saying, I want to be an advocate for this, I believe in this as medicine so deeply,” she told the Mercury News. “I started looking around California going, OK, what do I need to do — I want to be part of this — I actually turned to my friends and said, I want to be the face of cannabis.” In that same article, Jozee was quoted as saying that the Etheridges “genuinely share the same values that Cricket and I share about health and wellbeing.”

According to legal filings, the group secured a rental lease in 2018 on a large facility in Soquel, Calif. to manufacture and distribute their products, and also locked down important regulatory licenses for that property.

The plan, according to the Robertos, was for the couple to contribute their extensive cannabis industry expertise and work on product development, while the Etheridges would use their celebrity status to promote the business, seek outside investors, and continue to support the business financially.

Left High and Dry?

But while the Robertos say they “devoted every ounce of their money, time and attention” to the businesses, they claim the Etheridges failed to do the same. They say she failed to promote the business, and then stopped supporting the business financially. According to legal filings, by 2020 that allegedly included failing to pay the rent at the Soquel facility as promised; when the landlord finally booted them, the Robertos say it cost the business crucial regulatory licenses that had been tied to that property.

“Despite their persistent efforts, following the Etheridges’ complete lack of engagement and financial support to the Etheridge entities, the LLC sales and performance eventually withered away,” attorneys for the couple write in the demand for arbitration.

The alleged breakdown in the business came amid great personal tragedy for Etheridge. In May 2020, the singer announced that Beckett Cypher, her son with former partner Julie Cypher, had died from causes related to opioid addiction. Months later, the singer launched the Etheridge Foundation to advocate for and support research into new treatments for opioid addiction.

Those tragic events are not directly mentioned in the new legal filings, but attorneys for the Robertos allude to them in making their case.

“The Etheridges suffered personal losses for which the Robertos have much empathy,” the couple’s lawyers write in their filing earlier this month. “However, notwithstanding these personal losses and given the challenges faced by the parties, the Etheridges ultimately decided to let all of the joint ventures ‘die on the vine,’ stopped covering expenses that they promised to pay, and left the Robertos in a much worse situation.”

In technical terms, the demand for arbitration accuses the Etheridges of breaching their fiduciary duty to the companies; breaching their contract with the Robertos; violating legal promises they made to the couple; and making fraudulent and negligent misrepresentations.

The pair are seeking an undetermined amount of damages, but say they’re entitled to at least $3 million: “The Robertos have not pursued this action and are not proceeding to arbitration for fame or fortune or as a vendetta,” their lawyers write. “Rather, they simply seek compensation for the suffering they have had to endure and the financial ruin they have experienced due to the Etheridges abandoning them.”

Jade’s ‘Angel of My Dreams’ Inspiration, Possible Little Mix Reunion & More | Billboard News

Jade’s highly anticipated solo single “Angel of My Dreams” is out now, and the pop star has loads to say about how it came to life. Jade shares the challenges she faced in the music industry as a solo artist and in a group, her future music, potential collabs with Raye and Tove Lo, a possible Little Mix reunion in the future and more!

Jade:
When you’re in a girl band, everybody just tries to compare you. It’s just natural. So you kind of have to get used to that. But we had each other to support each other through everything. So, you know, this is essentially me starting again so I don’t even know yet what it feels like, fame wise, on my own.

Hi! It’s Jade, and you’re watching Billboard News.

Meghan Mahar:
I’m here with Jade. Jade, welcome.

Jade:
Thank you, very excited to be here.

Meghan Mahar:
We are so excited to have you and so excited to dive into your new era and new song called “Angel of My Dreams.” Can you tell us about the song? What was the inspiration behind it?

Jade:
“Angel of My Dreams,” I would say is about my kind of love/hate relationship with the music industry which, as you know, I’ve been a part of for quite some time. So I have a lot to say about that — good and bad. “Angel of My Dreams” is kind of like a love letter to the industry of how obsessed I am with it, how much I love it. But with that comes, you know, some trials and tribulations.

Meghan Mahar:
Did you know that this was going to be the single as soon as you wrote it?

Jade:
I’ve been writing for, like, two and a half years. I knew I hadn’t quite landed on the song yet.

Keep watching for more!

Rauw Alejandro, “Déjame Entrar” (Sony Music Latin)

Returning to the sultry depths of his musical roots, Rauw Alejandro seduces with “Déjame Entrar,” blending tropical beats with longing lyrics reminiscent of his raunchy yet simmering 2020 debut, Afrodisiaco. This second single from his upcoming album showcases the craftsmanship of super producer MAG, musician Mick Coogan, Tyler Spry and additional talents, creating a lush soundscape for Rauw’s melodious pleas.

The track gains a dancehall-inflected intensity as it progresses, illustrating the Puerto Rican star’s plea for a deeper connection. By the four-minute mark, the reggaetón rhythms climax alongside a luminous steel-string guitar. In its accompanying music video, starring Adrian Brody, Rauw (a.k.a. El Zorro) switches from a suave, hopeless romantic lounging in a jacuzzi to dancing in an equestrian field — perfect visuals to complement the song’s passionate, evolving sounds and his consistent, flirtatious essence. — ISABELA RAYGOZA

Danny Ocean, venequia. (Warner Music Latin)

With just a few days left before the presidential elections in Venezuela — which he had already referred to during his performance at the Latin AMAs with a t-shirt with the date July 28 — Danny Ocean surprises his fans with a seven-song EP dedicated to his native country, from the perspective of an emigrant. Driven by electronic rhythms that merge with reflective lyrics, the album opens with “A Mí También Me Duele,” which according to press notes he wrote thinking about the authorities who are suddenly not on your side, perhaps as seen in the many demonstrations in the South American country over the years.

While some of the tracks can easily pass for love songs, Ocean’s intention runs deeper. He says he made “Por Siempre y Para Siempre,” for example, “thinking that Venezuela will not forget those of us who are outside.” Other titles are more direct: In “Por la Pequeña Venecia” (Venezuela means “little Venice”), he admits he is willing to exchange justice for peace; in “Una Niña de Venezuela” he talks about the women who had to leave their home behind; and in “Dime Tú” he imagines what would be the first thing he would do if there was a change of government in his country. The EP closes with an acoustic version of his 2016 hit “Me Rehúso,” “for all those loves that have been forced to be separated,” as he says at the beginning of the song.

The cover of venequia. is also deeply significant: A broken fragment of Carlos Cruz-Diez’s emblematic work “Couleur Additive” that covers the floor of the Simón Bolívar International Airport lobby, and which has become a symbol of Venezuela’s emigration. It is, from start to finish, a well-produced and thought-out EP. — SIGAL RATNER-ARIAS

Ivan Cornejo, Mirada (Zaragoza Records/Interscope Records)

There’s an elegance to Ivan Cornejo’s music, as he meticulously crafts songs that are profound, both lyrically and sonically. Perhaps Cornejo’s best album to date (also his major-label debut), the songs on MIRADA showcase a maturity to the Mexican-American’s songwriting, with lyrics about heartbreak that are more refined, poetic and less trite. It’s been two years since Cornejo’s last album (Dañado), and he’s now 20 years old — so this album totally captures this coming-of-age narrative that Cornejo puts on full display, just as he offers a first-row seat to his display of emotions.

Powered mainly by traditional Mexican guitars, which have given Cornejo his signature sierreño sound, he also takes on a corrido tumbado (“Herida Abierta”) fueled by slapping tolocoche strings and wailing trombones. There’s another standout track that totally captures just how innovative Cornejo can be in his genre (música Mexicana). He takes Emmanuel’s brass-driven pop anthem “Quiero Dormir Cansado” from the 1980s, and makes it sound like a completely new song with a riveting electric guitar solo mid-song. Throughout MIRADA, Cornejo’s commanding vocals shine, even when he’s singing in a whisper-like tone he demands attention.

Overall, Cornejo sounds more confident in who he is and can be as an artist in regional Mexican music, a style that’s been generally confined to a sound and an audience. His role today in the genre is more clear than ever with this album — and that’s to keep evolving and revolutionizing a style that’s been a fountain of inspiration for him and a new generation of hitmakers. — GRISELDA FLORES

Lasso & Sofia Reyes, “Siempre Llegas Tarde” (Universal Music Latin)

Lasso is primarily known for his sometimes feel-good, sometimes thought-provoking lyrics and melodies. With “Siempre Llegas Tarde” (you’re always late), his new collaboration with Sofia Reyes, he’s showcasing his versatility that goes beyond the Latin ballad and pop realms. Produced by Andres “Chano” Guardado, we find the Venezuelan artist immersing himself in the cumbia world — a sound that’s already familiarly linked to Reyes—and ever-so-often flaunting his charismatic lyricism. “You’re always late, tell me where you are?/ Every time that I feel lonely and need you more/ You’re never here,” goes the chorus. The soft-yet-catchy cumbia-pop tune talks about a couple who loves and cares for each other but simply doesn’t understand each other. A playful music video shot in the middle of the desert details the frustration of the “relationship” between Lasso and the Mexican pop artist. — JESSICA ROIZ

DOMELIPA & Ozuna, “Ese Vato” (Lipa Music/Sony Music Latin)

Domelipa and Ozuna collaborate to release a new track with chill summer vibes. “Ese Vato,” Mexican slang for “that guy,” is about enjoying an uncomplicated relationship without formal commitment: “Let’s make love, but without a contract/ Baby, I’ve liked you for a while.” Produced by Colombian hitmaker Ovy on the Drums, this retro-pop track is driven by smooth drums and groovy bass, while an acoustic guitar adds soft harmonies that connect with the beauty of the long summer sunsets. “This is an incredible opportunity that helps both of us — Ozuna on the influencer side because it’s very popular right now, and me on the music side,” Domelipa previously told Billboard. “It was cool being able to meet him and talk to him. I admire him a lot, and these are things that a young Dome wouldn’t believe yet.”  — INGRID FAJARDO

Ela Taubert, “¿Para Qué?” (Universal Music Latino / Art House)

Pop artist Ela Taubert releases her new single “Para Qué”, the follow-up to her previous theme “Cómo Pasó?” The melody, loaded with acoustic guitars and fusing folk with pop elements, presents a sound that evokes Taylor Swift and Maggie Rogers. In the lyrics, Taubert reflects on a failed relationship, concluding that it is too late to return, even if the other person wants it. “I want my fans to feel the song, to make it their own, to make it their anthem and to accompany them a throughout their journey,” she commented on the release. The Colombian rising star has found her signature sound and stays true to it, bringing a new nuance to the current music scene. — LUISA CALLE

In Canada: Post Malone and Latin Music Feel the Love at Massive Quebec City Festival

Post Malone played what may have been the biggest concert in North America this summer last Friday, July 12. At Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ) in Quebec City, he performed a show for over 100,000 people on the historic Plains of Abraham. That’s par for the course for FEQ, which gets major stars in a variety of genres for 10 days every year, yet, outside of Quebec, remains somewhat under the radar.

Malone played after opening sets by Canadian band Valley and rising pop/country artist Jessie Murph. His set was teed up with a crowd singalong to “Sweet Caroline,” before a string section heralded Post’s entrance onto the stage. He started with his 2018 hit “Better Now,” with huge fireworks erupting at every chorus. Throughout the next two hours, he played songs from the Ozzy Osbourne-sampling “Take What You Want” to “Sunflower,” “Congratulations” and the recent No. 1 hit “I Had Some Help.”

He broke out some adorably silly dance moves and basked in the applause after every song, which seemed to take him aback. At one point, he even brought up a Quebecer from the audience named Felix, who joined him on stage to chug from a red solo cup and then strum an acoustic guitar while Post Malone crooned “Stay.”

Trending on Billboard

This year’s FEQ took place from July 4-14 and boasted headliners from 50 Cent to the Jonas Brothers, Nickelback to the Zac Brown Band.

While FEQ gets major artists for those main stage performances, artistic director Louis Bellavance says it’s not only about getting the biggest acts. “All of them have a function, a role to play in what we’re building,” he says.

It’s about finding the right types of genres and acts that resonate with the Quebec audience, which can sometimes differ from the rest of Canada and the United States, he says. R&B doesn’t play as well as in other markets, nor do many English Canada rock bands. That’s not to say rock doesn’t go over well, though — Mötley Crue packed the stage on the final night, Sunday, July 14, with a crowd much more multi-generational than you might think for a band whose sound and antics peaked in the ’80s.

One new addition this year was Saturday night’s all-Spanish mainstage night of J Balvin, Ivan Cornejo and GALE. FEQ has booked Latin artists before, but never as big as this year’s showcase. It was clear people travelled for the event, with Colombian superstar Balvin spotlighting all the flags in the front row and fans from Spanish-speaking countries around the world. Mexico, Spain, Peru, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, Honduras and Colombia were all “in la casa,” he said.

ScHoolboy Q’s Toronto Concert Cancelled, Blames Drake’s Beef with Kendrick Lamar

A cancelled show is seemingly connected to the year’s biggest story in rap music: the heated beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

ScHoolboy Q was supposed to perform a sold-out show at Toronto venue History on Thursday (July 18). But Q took to X Wednesday to announce that the show had been cancelled, supposedly due to the feud: “CANADIAN POLICE DONT WANT NOBODY FROM TDE [Lamar’s label] PERFORMING..” he wrote.

ScHoolboy Q used to be in the group Black Hippy with Kendrick Lamar and is a former labelmate on Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). Lamar left the label last year. The venue History is a partnership between Live Nation and Drake.

Q went on to post several times about the show, referencing PartyNextDoor’s recent performance at the Hollywood Palladium in Lamar and ScHoolboy’s hometown of L.A.: “if we wanted to get yall we would’ve just did it.. now wHen sumbody get Hurt don’t cry…”

Q later clarified that he found the cancellation funny and didn’t mean his post as a threat, but as advice: “I neva said “ ima kill sumbody” im saying if we wanted to crack it off we could’ve smH,” he wrote, “ima soccer dad.”

ScHoolboy Q, who performed at Lamar’s June 14 Pop Out Concert, is also briefly featured in Lamar’s video for the Drake diss track “Not Like Us,” which has added some fire back to a fight that was on the verge of dying down. Q and Lamar go back a long way, as former collaborators in Black Hippy alongside Jay Rock and Ab-Soul.

Drake posted an Instagram story following Q’s posts on X, leading some to speculate that he was trolling the rapper. In the shared story, Drake is seemingly sporting blue slides, possibly referencing ScHoolboy’s single of the same name.

He’s also wearing a shirt that reads “Free Yayo,” a reference to hip hop artist Tony Yayo who in a recent interview spoke about not wanting to get caught up in the Drake/Kendrick beef.

“You don’t wanna say something about Drake and f–ckin can’t go to Canada,” he told VladTV.

Though no official explanation for the cancellation has been revealed, the event page for the concert on Ticketmaster states that it was cancelled by the event organizer.

“The decision to cancel this event was made by the venue, not by the Toronto Police Service,” says a spokesperson from the Toronto Police Service.

Billboard Canada has reached out to Live Nation for comment.

The cancellation follows a recent attack on Rick Ross — who previously released Drake diss track “Champagne Moments” — in Vancouver, while “Not Like Us” played at the concert. Drake liked a post about the incident at the time. – Rosie Long Decter

Ashlee Simpson’s ‘Autobiography’: All 12 Tracks Ranked

Two years after Avril Lavigne released her game-changing debut album Let Go, another pop-punk princess arrived on the scene and made quite a splash.

Unlike her sister Jessica, who had emerged as a more traditional pop artist, Ashlee Simpson came with an edge: jet black hair, grunge style, and an affinity for rock music. In the lead-up to the release of her debut album, Simpson chronicled her music-making journey on the MTV reality series The Ashlee Simpson Show and became one of the earliest reality TV stars — a tactic that helped give the singer-songwriter even more exposure before Autobiography got into the hands of fans.

Upon its release, her 2004 debut, Autobiography, became one of the definitive teen-angst albums of the early aughts. Written largely by Simpson, Kara DioGuardi and producer John Shanks, Autobiography evoked the sounds of Alanis Morrissette, Garbage and Hole, but with a pop mindfulness and plenty of personality. The record, which was meant to mirror Simpson’s diary, was a 12-track journey of self-discovery, brimming with heartbreak, starry-eyed romance, insecurity, imperfection and frustration.

While Autobiography earned the top spot on the Billboard 200, the album received mixed reviews upon its release. And although Simpson had a slew of devoted fans back in the early aughts, there’s been a newfound sense of appreciation of her impact among modern listeners, particularly in the wake of Gen Z’s pop-punk revival in recent years. With the rise of artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Meet Me @ The Altar, it’s become quite clear that the genre owes Simpson a thank-you for her mainstream impact a generation earlier.

In honor of the 20th anniversary of Autobiography on July 20, see how we ranked the 12 tracks of Simpson’s debut album.

The Russo Brothers In Talks With Marvel Studios To Direct New ‘Avengers’ Films

HipHopWired Featured Video

Premiere Of Disney And Marvel's

After months of rumors as to who would be directing the highly anticipated Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, it seems like Marvel Studios might be bringing back the duo that gave us some of the greatest Marvel films ever — the Russo brothers.

Variety is reporting that Joe and Anthony Russo are in negotiations with Marvel Studios to have them direct the upcoming Avengers films after the duo took a break from comic book-themed films, following the record-breaking success of the Infinity Saga’s conclusion in Avengers: Endgame. Though the Russo brothers had initially stated they’d return to Marvel to direct a Secret Wars film if it ever came to fruition, Marvel has spent the last year or so searching for directors to take the helm of said film once it was announced.

Why Marvel didn’t simply ask the dynamic duo of directors to return is anyone’s guess, but everyone from Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi) to Ryan Cooler (Black Panther) to Shawn Levy (Deadpool, Wolverine) was said to be in the running to take the helm. Ultimately, the Avengers projects still remain without a director.

Complicating the matter is the fact that Jonathan Majors was supposed to play the main villain in both films as Kang The Conqueror, but after Marvel let him go due to his domestic abuse conviction, no one knows how they’ll resolve that storyline going forward. It seems like Marvel will recast the role, however, with word that the next installment of Avengers will no longer be called The Kang Dynasty, rumors are swirling that Kang may play a smaller role than expected if he’s even in the films at all.

Variety reports:

It’s unclear when Marvel plans to begin production on the upcoming “Avengers” installments. Anthony and Joe Russo’s next film is Netflix’s “The Electric State,” a sci-fi adventure with Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown that completed shooting in late 2022.

The Russos have directed four Marvel films, including 2014’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War.” “Avengers: Endgame” is the second-highest grossing movie in history with $2.79 billion while “Infinity War” is the sixth biggest with $2.05 billion. They’re in the company of James Cameron as the only directors with two $2 billion blockbusters.

With a proven track record of not only creating classic but also well-written Marvel films, the Russo brothers are probably the safest bet to take on such a task at the current moment as many feel that Marvel Studio films have fallen way off over the past few years.

What do y’all think about the Russo brothers possibly returning to direct the next two Avengers films? Let us know in the comments section below.

Watch Taylor Swift Give ‘Hey Stephen’ a Sassy Twist at Her Eras Tour Show in Germany: ‘Nope!’

Taylor Swift gave one of her older songs a sassy twist at her Eras Tour show in Gelsenkirchen, Germany Thursday (July 18).

While performing “Hey Stephen” from 2008’s Fearless during the acoustic section, the pop star interjected a one-word update into her classic lyrics. “All those other girls, well they’re beautiful/ But would they write a song for you?” she sang as normal, before asserting her status as songwriter supreme by adding in a sardonic “Nope!” that made fans at Veltins-Arena burst into laughter.

Swift has performed the track at previous Eras Tour shows, but this time, she mashed it up with Speak Now‘s title track. “Horrified looks from everyone in the room, but I’m only looking at you,” she sang, seamlessly transitioning back and forth between songs. “Hey Stephen, I could give you 50 reasons why I should be the one you choose.”

Afterward, she moved over to her piano for an emotional combination of Folklore‘s “This Is Me Trying” and Midnights‘ “Labyrinth.” The night marked the 14-time Grammy winner’s second of three shows in Gelsenkirchen, with her third one slated for Friday (July 19). She’ll next set up shop in Hamburg and Munich.
