Diddy’s Lawyers Accuse The Government Of Information Leaks

Lawyers for Diddy have accused the government of purposely leaking information to prohibit him from having a fair trial.

A new legal motion submitted by lawyers representing Diddy claims that the federal government is colluding with the media to spoil their client’s chance at a fair trial. The filing made on Wednesday (Oct. 9), requests that the court take the “government’s scheme” seriously, and asks that all of the appropriate remedies including the dismissal of the trial outright and disqualification of witnesses be taken into account. The legal team cites a hotel surveillance video from 2016 – which shows Diddy, aka Sean Combs, allegedly assaulting the singer Cassie Ventura – as proof of the collusion. The video was aired on CNN in May, prompting Diddy to make a public apology. It is unclear how the network was able to obtain the video.

“The videotape was leaked to CNN for one reason alone: to mortally wound the reputation and the prospect of Sean Combs successfully defending himself against these allegations,” wrote attorneys Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos. The reasoning they presented the government as the likely suspect mentions that Ventura made no mention of the assault in her lawsuit against Diddy last November and “received a substantial eight-figure settlement,” and a third party would’ve sold the footage.

The lawyers named the Department of Homeland Security as the group behind the leak, claiming that the raids they conducted on Diddy’s homes in Los Angeles and Miami were done in broad daylight for full media exposure, stating that the media was present at the Los Angeles residence “before the crime scene tape was put up,” and pointed to DHS agents perp-walking Diddy’s children to a public area during the raid. They also allege that a DHS agent was behind anonymous leaks to the press.

Prosecutors have cited the hotel footage as core for their argument that Diddy engaged in sex trafficking and intimidation, alleging that he assaulted Cassie Ventura because she refused to participate in one of his alleged “freak-offs.” The motion came with another filed request by Diddy’s lawyers to have the trial begin in April or May of next year. The embattled music mogul is currently in federal custody in Brooklyn. He had another bail appeal denied by the court on Tuesday (Oct. 8), with a procedural hearing set for early Thursday (Oct. 10).

One of the biggest evenings in the fashion industry will highlight Black men’s style. Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams have been tapped as the celebrity co-chairs for the 2025 Met Gala.

As spotted on the New York Times, the theme for the 2025 Met Gala has been formally announced. “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” is directly inspired by Monica L. Miller’s, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. Originally released in 2009, the book details the history and cultural importance of the Black Dandy. She describes Black Dandyism to Vogue as “a strategy and a tool to rethink identity, to reimagine the self in a different context. To really push a boundary – especially during the time of enslavement, to really push a boundary on who and what counts as human, even.”

To ensure the theme is properly brought to life the Metropolitan Museum of Art has appointed Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour as the co-chairs for the 2025 edition. LeBron James will also serve as an honorary chairman. The exhibit is slated to feature artwork, antique garments and other items that will explore the history of Black Dandy.

The 2025 Met Gala will take place on May 5 followed by the launch of the Superfine: Tailoring Black Style exhibit on May 10.

Kamala Harris Appeared At Univision Town Hall, Trump-Friendly Foes’ Teleprompter Claims Debunked

Democratic Presidential Candidate Vice President Kamala Harris Attends Univision Hosted Townhall In Las Vegas

Kamala Harris, the current Vice President of the United States, joined a Univision town hall event on Thursday to appeal to Latino voters and took questions from attendees. Kamala Harris’ detractors attempted to spread rumors of the vice president using a teleprompter, which has since been debunked.

Vice President Kamala Harris appeared at the University of Nevada Las Vegas on Thursday (October 10) for the Univision town hall, which was hosted and moderated by Enrique Acevedo. During the town hall, Harris fielded questions from concerned citizens and addressed several issues important to this bloc of voters which include immigration, healthcare, housing, and more.

The town hall was an emotional affair, with some attendees tearfully delivering their questions and Harris gamely answering them. One woman shared at the event that her mother passed away and couldn’t obtain healthcare due to her immigration status. In response, Harris showed compassion and empathy.

“I’m so sorry for what you’ve been through,” Harris said. “I know what it is like to have a hard-working mother who loves you and to lose that, but I know that her spirit is alive.”

Other attendees grilled Harris on what she intends to do for those unable to get Social Security benefits and other related concerns as those who spoke felt frozen out of getting proper treatment for their ailments. Harris also fielded a tough question from an independent voter who pondered how she was able to get to the top of the ticket after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.

Harris also addressed the issue of assisting the middle class, many of whom are struggling to make ends meet in a grueling economy with stagnant wages, rising costs, and a cooling job market. She also made certain to draw the line between herself and Donald Trump by hammering down on her policies while criticizing the former president on his plans.

In the wake of the town hall, powerful conservative voices such as Sean Hannity went on to accuse Harris of getting talking point assistance from a teleprompter, despite the use of the device being a rather common practice. Trump has charged Harris with getting a boost from teleprompter use and boasts that he doesn’t need one yet his rambling and often incoherent speeches would suggest otherwise.

On X, where Hannity made his accusation, there is already a community note shooting down the claim. Further, Acevedo confirmed that the teleprompter was for his use and replied under an X reply made by conservative pundit Benny Johnson.

“The prompter displayed my introduction (in Spanish) and then it switched to a timer. Any claim to the contrary is simply untrue,” Acevedo wrote. It should be noted that Hannity deleted his claim but didn’t seem to offer an explanation.

Despite the moderator’s reply and actual images posted on X supporting his stance, the teleprompter claim grew legs and spread to the point it became a trending topic. We’ve got reactions to Kamala Harris’ Univision town hall meeting, and the debunked teleprompter claims below.

The year-long partnership will provide a “safe space for young people worldwide, building a supportive community that brings together mental health leaders, young people, and their families to provide real-time support for overcoming mental health challenges.”

In 2020, DaBaby’s brother, Glenn Johnson, committed suicide, leaving three daughters. For Baby, his mission statement is clear: to provide awareness for those in need and an outlet to funnel those mental health woes and frustrations.

“I believe that if more of the correct resources were in place to support mental health awareness and self-love, the world would see far less of these tragedies,” Baby’s mission statement reads. “In honor of my brother’s untimely passing, I have become devoted to utilizing my platform and resources to provide the tools needed to combat mental health issues. Breaking the long going cycle of mental illness in minority communities & normalizing the conversation around mental health. Join me in my journey to save lives one step at a time while preventing families around the world from enduring the tragic pain of losing a loved one.”

During the town hall, they raised awareness about mental health issues among the students. The students there also received their own Youth Mental Health 101 Resource Guide,” co-authored by DaBaby, which helps cop with mental health woes and provides self-care mechanisms. Then, DaBaby held a fireside chat and spoke about overcoming his trauma and rehabilitation.

This week, Charli xcx rearranges her album with a packed guest list, Jelly Roll continues a triumphant year and JENNIE has a “Mantra” for the ladies. Check out all of this week’s picks below:

Charli xcx, Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat

Like the Lorde-assisted rework of “Girl, so confusing,” which is in contention for the year’s best pop moment, the new version of Charli xcx’s masterful Brat album allows guest stars to drop by and work it out on the remix, whether it’s Ariana Grande meditating on fame over “Sympathy is a Knife” or Bon Iver crooning alongside Charli’s existential woe on “I think about it all the time”; this project revamps the concept of a remix album and extends Brat Summer into autumn.

Trending on Billboard

Jelly Roll, Beautifully Broken

Not only has Jelly Roll become one of the most successful new artists in country music in 2024, but he’s also been one of the genre’s most prolific voices — and Beautifully Broken, a 63-minute opus that includes a handful of previously released tracks but far more new country anthems, puts a bow on this fruitful era of the late-blooming singer-songwriter’s heartfelt, driving formula.

JENNIE, “Mantra”

Toward the end of “Mantra,” JENNIE lets out a delighted laugh, as if the “pretty girl mantra” that she’s just delivered is so infectious that even the voice behind can’t help but bask in its pop euphoria; indeed, the new single gives the BLACKPINK star a giddy solo banger designed to be turned up loud prior to a night out.

GloRilla, Glorious

GloRilla may have become a star thanks in part to viral-ready tracks like “F.N.F.” and “Tomorrow 2,” but the Memphis rapper was always capable of a compelling extended statement; Glorious, featuring guests ranging from Megan Thee Stallion to T-Pain to BossMan Dlow, is built around her formidable flow, and demands the listener’s attention for its full run time.

Becky G, Encuentros

Becky G’s exploration of Mexican music continues with Encuentros, her fourth studio album and another project in which the crossover star sounds wholly at ease conjuring hooks while singing in Spanish — although this time, she embraces the contours of her voice, making songs like “Otro Capítulo” and “Desierto” shine with self-certainty.

Rod Wave, Last Lap

On Rod Wave’s new album Last Lap, the twinkling and pretty track “25” is placed back-to-back with “F–k Fame,” a percolating collaboration with Lil Baby and Lil Yachty — that juxtaposition perfectly encapsulates the hip-hop star’s line-straddling aesthetic, as Rod Wave is able to offer soulfulness alongside radio-ready rap fodder.

Halsey, “I Never Loved You”

Although the lead-up to new album The Great Impersonator has found Halsey taking a chameleonic approach and channeling various eras of pop greats before her, new single “I Never Loved You” evokes more of an ‘80s vibe than a specific artist, as Halsey marinates in a breakup while hovering above piano keys and ethereal synths.

Editor’s Pick: Tyla, “Push 2 Start”

The deluxe edition of Tyla’s top-notch self-titled album from earlier this year includes three new songs, and “Push 2 Start” most effectively crystallizes the South African singer’s appeal: over sumptuous percussion and call-and-response harmonies, the “Water” star makes flirtatious car metaphors sound vibrant and celebratory.

Xavi, Next (Interscope Records)

Unlike the typical landscape of Latin music in 2024, Xavi’s debut album, Next, distinguishes itself through his singular vocal prowess and a selective ensemble of guest features that include Tony Aguirre, Los Dareyes de la Sierra, and his brother and co-songwriter, Fabio Capri. With 15 tracks that blend fresh revelations and familiar hits, this album sees the Phoenix, Arizona, native expanding his creative wanderlust and widespread appeal.

Next captivates with songwriting that paints scenes of young love caught in the throes of rebellious fervor and wholesome charm. His vocal delivery, both haunting and resolute, is supported by an eclectic mix of traditional instruments like the requinto and tololoche, enriched further by occasional brass accents. New song “La Luna X Mi” surprises and delights, offering the lustrous tones of a 12-string guitar. “Filosofía” boasts lush melodies and playful reflections on love. Meanwhile, ongoing hits like “Corazón de Piedra,” “La Diabla” and “La Víctima” invigorate the overall momentum, intertwining with the newer tracks to create a robust musical narrative.

Trending on Billboard

A particularly compelling collaboration is “Tu Casi Algo,” where Xavi and Fabio Capri exchange verses on the blossoming nuances of romance. With Next, the 20-year-old artist not only continues to cement his status as a breakthrough artist but also challenges the conventions of Latin music, presenting a debut that will surely resonate widely and affect deeply. — ISABELA RAYGOZA

Becky G, Encuentros (Kemosabe Records/RCA Records)

Becky G continues to trace her Mexican roots in Encuentros, a gorgeous 16-track set powered by prickly requintos, wailing trombones and equally emotional lyrics that touch on the sadness and grief that come with heartbreak and, ultimately, joy from a healed heart. The 27-year-old Mexican American artist sings with pathos, the way música mexicana greats often do, as she brings to life stories through songs with the help of friends like Tito Double P, Oscar Maydon, Oscar Ortiz and Delilah — who all represent a new generation of regional Mexican hitmakers. Encuentros follows, and is a continuation, of Becky’s ultra-personal Esquinas, which she released last year.

“This album is deeply personal and raw, documenting a healing process that’s far from linear,” Becky said in a statement about Encuentros. “I’ve found peace within myself and embraced every part of who I am. I am grateful to música mexicana for allowing me to express the rawest version of myself.” The new album comes on the heels of her new tour, Casa Gómez: Otro Capítulo, set to kick off today (Oct. 11). — GRISELDA FLORES

Pedro Capó, LiL CaKe & DeMasters, “Si Alguien Me Ve” (ReLo-Co. Music/Globalatino Music Partners)

In a first collaborative effort, Pedro Capó and LiL CaKe deliver “Si Alguien Me Ve” (If Anyone Sees Me). Helmed by Venezuelan producers DeMasters, the bonafide team up kicks off with the pensive Argentine newcomer LiL CaKe backed by a melancholic ballad: “I know I messed up many times […] you deserve someone better than me, who doesn’t make you cry, who doesn’t make you suffer,” he chants. The track smoothly transitions into a rhythmic cumbia villera, where Capó continues with a just as nostalgic chorus: “If anyone sees me in the streets/ I’m looking for you/ I think you moved,” further emphasizing in the lyrics that no one compares to his ex. — JESSICA ROIZ

Jerri Di, “Asilo” (Universal Music Latino)

Venezuelan musician Jerri D releases an ode to Venezuela with “Asilo,” a song that marks the end of a conceptual project titled ASILO COLLECTIONS: VOL V – Aceptación. “Dedicated to the 8 million Venezuelans abroad. And to the 24 million within,” the singer said in a press release, “Asilo” is a love letter that evokes his longing from exile. “How much I miss you/ I want the old days to come back/ This love has me on strike,” Jerry sings urgently over shimmering synths and a haunting bass line. “Asilo” arrives with an emotional music video directed by Reinaldo Díaz and produced by Juan Diasparra, which features striking images of Venezuela and its people captured throughout the country over 33 days. “We wanted to show our land to those who have not known it,” a message reads at the beginning of the clip. “What we found was the reason why millions of us have never lost faith in Venezuela.” — SIGAL RATNER-ARIAS

Trump’s Madison Square Garden Rally Sparks Nazi Comparisons

Donald Trump announced a campaign rally at Madison Square Garden, compelling some to compare it to an infamous Nazi rally once held there.

On Wednesday (Oct. 9), an official with former President Donald Trump’s election campaign confirmed that they would be holding a rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City. News of the rally immediately sparked comparisons to an infamous rally held by a group sympathetic to the Nazi Regime in Germany in 1939. According to reports, the campaign event will be held on Oct. 27, and “will kick off an ‘arena tour’ for the former president who plans to visit battleground states in the final push before the Nov. 5 election,” reportedly including Coachella in Palm Springs, California.

Trump teased the possibility of a rally at the vaunted arena in April. “We’re going to be doing a rally at Madison Square Garden, we believe,” he said at the time. “We think we’re signing Madison Square Garden to do. We’re going to have a big rally honoring the police, and honoring the firemen, and everybody. Honoring a lot of people, including teachers by the way. We’ll be honoring the people that make New York work.” At his campaign rally in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday evening, he announced it to the crowd who met the news with cheers. “We’re going to make a play for New York,” he said.

Observers noted that the rally’s theme of “America First” bears a striking resemblance to the rally held at the former Madison Square Garden on Feb. 20, 1939, by the German American Bund. The rally featured attendees cheering on “speeches were explicitly anti-Semitic, and tirades against ‘job-taking Jewish refugees’ were met with thunderous applause.” It would be the subject of a PBS short film released in 2020, A Night at the Garden, which captured the event. Others questioned Trump’s decision to have a rally in a state that hasn’t gone for a Republican since Ronald Reagan.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, historian Michael Beschloss shared an image from that 1939 event featuring a banner of George Washington next to a banner bearing the Nazi swastika in response to the news. In another X post, New York State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal called on Madison Square Garden to cancel, feeling their approval for the rally was a decision “that will endanger the public safety of New Yorkers and has the potential to incite widespread violence.”

A few weeks ago it was announced that Kyle Chandler was in talks to star as Hal Jordan aka The Green Lantern, in HBO’s upcoming DC series, Lanterns. Now, that cast seems to be growing as another rising star is set to join the fan favorite superhero group.

According to Variety, DC is rounding out their Green Lantern Corps. for the Lantern series as up-and- coming actor Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) has been cast to star as another famous Green Lantern, John Stewart. While we know female comic book fans will be swooning at the news that the green eye’d bandit will be putting on some superhero tights and flexing his muscles, others are just happy to see that the series seems to be pushing forward as Lanterns has been said to be in the works for quite some time.

Though there is word that Lanterns may not be part of James Gunn’s main cinematic DCU and end up being an DC Elseworlds project (such as Joker and The Batman), it should still be a fun show to watch once it hits HBO sometime in the future.

Variety reports:

The show was picked up for eight episodes at HBO in June. Originally intended as a Max original, the show shifted to HBO as part of a new content delineation plan.

Per the official logline, the series follows “new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”

Lanterns is expected to begin filming in January of 2025 and is said to be akin to True Detective in its overall plot as Hal Jordan and John Stewart investigate a 187 here on Earth. It’ll be interesting to see which villain the two face off with in the series and if they’ll eventually make their way to James Gunn’s DCU.

What do y’all think about Aaron Pierre being cast as John Stewart’s Green Lantern? Let us know in the comments section below.
