Anti Up, What Is Life

Brit producers Chris Lake and Chris Lorenzo have been collaborating as Anti Up since 2018, and talks of a debut album have seemingly gone on for nearly as long. After a few false starts and a major headlining slot at this year’s Coachella, it’s finally here. What Is Life is as in-your-face as its title is existential, loaded with whomping basslines, heaving tech house and old-school flourishes made for dark rooms — a nod to the Chrises’ U.K.-dance roots. Some of the tracks here are singles Anti Up have dropped over the years, such as the revved-up “Shake” and groovy “Chromatic,” but there’s plenty of new material, too. Check out “Shambles,” a cut of cavernous techno with swelling synths, wailing sirens, and raw vocals channeling Underworld’s Karl Hyde. Altogether, it’s high-energy electronics and massive punk energy that’ll make you eager to f–k up a dance floor. — KRYSTAL RODRIGUEZ

Flying Lotus, “Ingo Swann”

Steven Ellison has been working on a couple of outside projects in recent years, scoring the Netflix anime series Yasuke and writing/directing V/H/S/99 and Ash. But it seems the producer is circling back to his own work as Flying Lotus. After popping up in August with “Garmonbozia,” his first new material in two years, Ellison is back again with “Ingo Swann,” named after the late American psychic. “Ingo Swann” is full-on four-on-the-floor, a gleaming cut bristling with brisk percussion and bubbling lofi synths. It seems like there’s still more yet to come: In a recent interview with Hypebeast, he shared he’s working on a new album that’s “98% done.” — K.R.

Dom Dolla & Tove Lo, “Cave”

Aussie hotshot Dom Dolla goes drum ‘n’ bass on his latest single and collaboration with Swedish alt-pop artist Tove Lo, “Cave.” The genre is new to their pair’s catalog, but it looks good on them. “Cave” is sultry, self-aware, and a little dangerous, as Lo narrates a tale where the lustful grip of temptation triumphs over self-preservation: “I know all your tricks and you lick your lips, because you know I’m gonna cave.” It’s a killer hook that can shake up the club and the radio.

“I used to play a lot of shows in New Zealand in the early days of my career,” Dom Dolla says. “Drum and Bass has always had a timeless place in the scene there and it rubbed off on me as a youngster. I took the influence with me everywhere. After playing an evening of house/techno at clubs in the U.S., I used to love closing the night out with a DnB record or two. Even if it was simply as an energetic escalation and the audience I was playing it to didn’t understand it at the time. Fast forward to 2024, the genre has exploded, and it’s understood by all. I love that there are no rules anymore.”

“He played me a barebones version of the track, pretty much just the main synth in the verses and some of the chorus drums,” adds Lo. “We started riffing on melodies and quickly had it down. I took the track home with me and worked on the lyrics. I felt like the chords and the beat had this haunted but sexy energy about it. It was giving the hot toxic ex you’re not over. So, I decided to tell that story.” — K.R.

Maddy O’Neal, Vital Signs

Bass producer Maddy O’Neal is out with her third album, Vital Signs, with its 10 dually hard-hitting and etheric tracks emphasizing why she’s becoming an increasingly well known name in the genre. But of course success rarely, if ever, comes overnight, with the Colorado-based producer having hustled for over a decade to get here. Vital Signs thus aptly started coming together at the beginning of the year, when O’Neal had some time off to consider her original influences and how to fuse them with the skills she’s developed while making music for the last 12 years. “I brought it back to the heavy hip hop/soulful sampling influences I leaned into at the start,” she writes, “while really ramping it up with big sound design and taking it up a notch in terms of production. Those effective decisions are heard throughout the album, which fans can also hear live as O’Neal tours through the U.S. through the end of the year. — KATIE BAIN

Camelphat, “Deep Inside”

Coming in the wake of their 2023 album Spiritual Milk, British duo Camelphat release the simply titled B-Sides EP, six tracks that capture the soaring, prismatic big room house and melodic techno sounds the pair have become beloved for since their emergence. “Deep Inside” captures this sound most effectively, with waves of synth and a long build giving way to a dexterous, hard-hitting release. The project is out on the pair’s own When Stars Align imprint. K.B.

Amelie Lens, “Falling for You”

If you’ve been Shazaming Amelie Lens’ set-closing tracks lately to no avail, you’re in luck. On the heels of two major open-to-close shows in New York City and Los Angeles, the Belgian producer has released her latest and much-anticipated single, “Falling for You.” The track falls somewhere between hard techno and trance, elevating heart rates with its driving beat and sharp percussion. Lens balances that sharpness with softness, overlaying it with soaring synths and a sugar-coated vocal expressing even more saccharine sentiment: “And I, never felt so loved, I am falling for you/ And I, and my body awakes, I am returning to you.” With a closer like that, it’s hard to not go home happy. — K.R.

Post Malone & Blake Shelton ‘Pour’ a Second Round Atop Country Airplay Chart

Post Malone’s “Pour Me a Drink,” featuring Blake Shelton, tops Billboard’s Country Airplay survey (dated Oct. 19) for a second week. The team-up advanced by 12% to 31.3 million audience impressions Oct. 4-10, according to Luminate.

The song, which Malone co-wrote, became his second Country Airplay No. 1, after “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, reigned for four frames beginning in June. Both hits are from his introductory LP in the genre, F-1 Trillion, which rolled in at No. 1 on the Aug. 31-dated Top Country Albums chart and the all-genre Billboard 200 with 250,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. The set has earned 1.2 million units over its first seven weeks of release.

“Pour Me a Drink” marks Shelton’s 29th Country Airplay No. 1, a run that started when his first entry, “Austin,” ruled for five frames in 2001. He adds his 18th leader to dominate for multiple weeks; “Austin” is his longest-leading hit, followed by “Honey Bee” (four weeks, 2011) and “Some Beach” (four, 2004-05). The only acts with more multiweek No. 1s are Tim McGraw and George Strait, each with 21, and Kenny Chesney, with 20 (of his overall-record 33 leaders).

Trending on Billboard

Meanwhile, of the 20 songs that have reached the Country Airplay pinnacle in 2024, “Pour Me a Drink” is just the sixth to boast a multiframe command. In 2023, 12 of 19 No. 1s led for more than one week.

Post Malone charts an additional song on Country Airplay: fellow F-1 Trillion track “A Guy for That,” featuring Luke Combs, holds at its No. 26 high (6.6 million, up 6%).

Barack Obama Lobs A Diaper Joke At Donald Trump

The 2024 race for the White House is coming down to the wire, and while Donald Trump is still out here churning out conspiracy theories, divisive rhetoric and racist dog whistles, former President Barack Obama is doing what he can to ensure America doesn’t fall into an autocratic nightmare come 2025, even if it means taking a jab at the Cult 45 leader.

This past Thursday night (Oct. 10), the 44th president of the United States hit the campaign trail in support of Kamala Harris and gave a speech for the ages in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, reminding everyone that democracy is literally on the line in this year’s election and that Donald Trump knows nothing about relating to the average American. Well, except in maybe one way in which Donald Trump can relate to senior citizens.

While praising Kamala Harris’ proposed policy to grant parents of newborn babies a $6,000 child tax credit, Obama recalled his early days as a dad who could’ve used such a tax break back in the day. Speaking on how he learned how expensive diapers were during those days, Obama said, “I remember changing diapers. Do you think Donald Trump ever changed a diaper?” With many people in the audience laughing and saying “No,” one person in attendance could clearly be heard saying, “His own!”

Not being one to pass up an opportunity to crack a joke, President Obama smiled and pointed to the man who yelled it saying, “I almost said that but decided I shouldn’t say it,” much to the delight of the crowd.

For those who don’t know, it’s been said that not only does Donald Trump wear adult diapers, but that he involuntarily farts and actually sh*ts himself on the regular. There were also rumors that his lawyers could smell his dirty diapers during his hush money trial in New York City earlier this year. Even as early as yesterday (Oct. 10), when Donald Trump gave an “economic” speech in Detroit where he bashed the city for basically being a slump in his opinion. People say that Don-Old might’ve sharted himself on stage.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Yeah, that’s not a good look for someone running to be president, but his cult followers will never abandon him no matter what he does. The man is an adjudicated rapist for God’s sake.

Interestingly enough, Donald Trump took to his struggle social media site, Truth Social, to say that he thinks President Obama will ultimately vote Trump because, well, Donald Trump is mentally challenged. That’s as best as we can put it at this point, and there’s nothing worst than a mentally challenged racist/rapist who has a bone to pick with anyone who doesn’t worship him.

Vote accordingly, y’all.

Dr. Dre Sued By Ex Therapist For $10M Over Harassment Claims

Dr. Dre will have to clear his name in a court of law. His former therapist is suing him for $10 million dollars with claims of harassment.

Rolling Stone Magazine is reporting that a California psychotherapist is alleging that the Rap legend made him suffer while treating him. Dr. Charles Sophy says Dr. Dre enlisted his services back in 2018 to help him with his then marriage to now ex-wife Nicole Young. The medical professional says he worked “diligently, independently and fairly” to help the couple repair their failing union. In 2021 the sessions stopped when the two agreed on a divorce settlement.

About a year later Doctor says the business mogul started reaching out to him again via text with claims he treated the couple unethically. “Rather than treating the mediation process as an opportunity for healing, Young decided to take his frustrations about the mediation out on Dr. Sophy — frustrations that manifested themselves in the form of a nearly year-long sustained campaign of late-night texts, threats of intimidation and violence, and homophobic rhetoric,” the filing reads. Sophy also believes he sent men impersonating FBI agents to his home in attempt to access the property and threaten him.

In response Dr. Dre’s lawyer Howard King tells Rolling Stone Magazine exclusively that “The Next Episode” rapper had filed a claim against the doctor last year to the Osteopathic Medical Board of California. “That complaint seeks revocation of Dr. Sophy’s license to provide mental health counseling to needy patients” Kind says. “In gross violation of all applicable standards of care, Dr. Sophy inserted himself into a contentious divorce while he simultaneously ‘treated’”.

Henry Cavill Cast To Star In Amazon’s Upcoming ‘Voltron’ Film

Beloved Man Of Steel actor Henry Cavill may not be part of the DCU’s Justice League anymore, but the actor will once again lead a five person group that ’80s babies have very fond memories of from their childhood.

According to Variety, Henry “The Calverine” Cavill has just been cast to star in a live-action Voltron film for Amazon MGM Studios, and truth be told, we couldn’t be more excited. Though Voltron doesn’t have the same popularity as say G.I. Joe or Transformers, the American-Japanese franchise was a huge hit for kids, teens and even some adults as the anime itself was considered superior to that of the aforementioned cartoon series back in the 1980s.

Now that Caville will be leading the Voltron Force to fight robotic beasts on behalf of the universe, best believe we’ll be indulging in some sci-fi action once the film hits the big screen some time in 2026.

Variety reports:

Rawson Marshall Thurber is directing the movie from a script he wrote with Ellen Shanman. Thurber most recently wrote and directed Netflix’s 2021 action flick “Red Notice” starring Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and 2018’s “Skyscraper,” which Johnson also toplined.

Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps at this time. Producers include Todd Lieberman via Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar, Thurber and Hobie Films’ David Hoberman.

Cavill will join previously announced star Daniel Quinn-Toye, a film newcomer who has appeared on television in “Badults” and served as Tom Holland’s understudy in “Romeo & Juliet” on the West End this spring.

Will the Voltron film be an origin story? Will the Voltron Force already be at war with their arch nemesis the Evil King Zarkon from the planet Doom? Is Henry Cavill going to be “Keith” from the ’80s cartoon series or a whole new character entirely? We don’t know but we sure as hell can’t wait to find out.

What do y’all think about Henry Cavill being cast in Amazon’s Voltron film? Let us know in the comments section below.

Barack Obama Implores Black Men To Back Kamala Harris

Former President Barack Obama firmly called out undecided Black male voters, asking them to support Kamala Harris over former President Donald Trump.

On Thursday (October 10), former President Barack Obama made a surprise visit to a field office for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He used that appearance to talk with the volunteers gathered about Black men who are undecided about the upcoming election and those leaning towards supporting Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. “We have not seen the same kinds of energy and turnout in all quarters of our neighborhoods and communities as we saw when I was running. Now, I also want to say that that seems to be more pronounced with the brothers,” Obama began.

https://twitter.com/Acyn/status/1844545484255535262

“And you are thinking about sitting out?” he continued, referencing those who have considered not voting at all in November. “Part of it makes me think — and I’m speaking to men directly — part of it makes me think that, well, you just aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president, and you’re coming up with other alternatives and other reasons for that.” Obama then spoke about Black women continuing to be highly supportive of Black men in the community. “When we get in trouble and the system isn’t working for us, they’re the ones out there marching and protesting,” he added, highlighting the difference between Harris and Trump to show who they should vote for. “On the one hand, you have somebody who grew up like you, knows you, went to college with you, understands the struggles and pain and joy that comes from those experiences,” highlighting Harris’ focus on policies that will benefit Black communities.  “And on the other side, you have someone who has consistently shown disregard, not just for the communities, but for you as a person.”

The campaign office visit left some on social media taking offense to how the former president was addressing Black men, but others backed his approach as a much-needed move. Recent data shows that while there is a growing number of Black men under 50 who have warmed to Trump, a significant amount are planning to back Harris at the voting booth. “Very rarely do I go into a barbershop and I hear people say, ‘Democrats have failed me,’” said Philadelphia Councilmember Isaiah Thomas in an interview. “People might say the government has failed Black people, but not Democrats.”

Kanye West is a very paranoid guy who allegedly dabbles in conspiracy theory land.

Spotted on Variety, a former “director of intelligence” claims that Ye, the artist formally known as Kanye West, sued his former boss on Thursday, claiming the rapper gave him the job of investigating his ex-ex-wife, Kim Kardashian’s family of alleged sex trafficking.

The man, who goes by the name John Doe, also claims that he had to hire private investigators to tail his soon-to-be ex-wife, allegedly Bianca Censori, while she was visiting her family in Australia.

The unnamed former director of intelligence also says that the “Jesus Walks” crafter “blew up” at him after he shared a report of alleged child abuse going on at West’s not-shuttered school, the Donda Academy, with leaders.

“You’re fucking dead to me!” West allegedly said and then played a “recording of scary voices” threatening to inflict harm upon him.

More Details On The Lawsuit Per Variety:

The lawsuit alleges retaliation and infliction of emotional distress. The man claims that the experience affected his mental health, triggering his PTSD from his military service and causing panic attacks and anxiety. He also claims he is owed unpaid wages from the last several pay periods of his employment.

“John Doe was also tasked by Ye with investigating the Kardashian family and supposed various criminal links Ye believed they had with criminal enterprises, including alleged sex trafficking,” the lawsuit states.

According to the suit, the plaintiff would also handle various other problems that came up, such as seeking to retrieve items that were lost or stolen.

“It was common for Ye to lose expensive cars or fail to pay people for services rendered at Ye’s direction,” the suit states.

John Doe alleges he was hired in December 2022 by West to be his “deputy campaign director and was later moved to director of intelligence. According to the complaint, his job in the summer of 2023 was “brainstorming ideas to keep Ye in the news.”

If that was his job, he did a fine job because Ye stayed in the news.

2024 MTV Video Music Awards - Arrivals

GloRilla is easily one of the top Hip-Hop stars of her generation and her pathway to greater success is widening even further. The Memphis rapper dropped her debut studio album Glorious on Friday (October 11) and fans on X are going up for GloRilla.

Glorious clocks in at 15 tracks and boasts several big features, including Megan Thee Stallion, T-Pain, Bossman Dlow, Latto, Muni Long, Sexxy Red, and Fridayy.

Ahead of the album’s release, GloRilla fans were taken aback by the inclusion of Kirk Franklin, Kierra Sheard, and the Maverick City Music collective. Of course, the turn-up anthems that Big Glo is known for are all present throughout the album, and the singles “TGIF” and “Hollon” set the table for the main course as expected.

So far, fans are “How I Look” featuring Houston’s number one Hottie, Megan Thee Stallion, and the collaborators are also friends away from the tour stage as evidenced by the social media posts together.

Another standout for fans is “Watchu Kno About Me” featuring Sexxy Red, with the pair trading bars over a beat flip of “Wipe Me Down” from Foxx, Boosie Badazz, and Webbie. There is even some fan speculation that Glo took a shot at JT, formerly of the City Girls, on the track.

While he doesn’t appear on the album, Glo’s label boss Yo Gotti has several production credits across the project, thus stamping the Memphis sound that his artist has cultivated and grown over the years.

With all the positive returns thus far for Glorious, GloRilla is having an exceptional day and is trending on X. We’ve got reactions from the social media platform below.
