Artists With the Most 2025 Grammy Nominations

Once again, it’s Queen Bey’s world, we’re just living in it.

Beyoncé made history on Friday (Nov. 8) when she landed 11 2025 Grammy Award nominations, setting a one-year record for nods for a woman artist. The Cowboy Carter star had previously shared the title with Lauryn Hill, who earned 10 noms in 1999; Bey got 10 as well in 2010.

She wasn’t alone in racking up multiple nominations, with Charli XCXBillie EilishKendrick Lamar and Post Malone tied for second place with seven nods and Sabrina CarpenterChappell Roan and Taylor Swift tied for third place with six nominations.

Records fell all over the place, with Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department marking her seventh album of the year nomination, helping her break a tie with Barbra Streisand for the woman with the most AOTY nods. Beyoncé also made history when Cowboy Carter got an AOTY bid, elevating the singer to the pole position on the list of Black artists with the most AOTY nominations as a lead artist; she was formerly tied with Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar on that list.

Bey has been up for the night’s top prize four other times, but to date has never won the award. In addition, Cowboy Carter has officially become the most Grammy-nominated album of all time, surpassing previous record-holders Michael Jackson’s Thriller and husband Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3, which both earned 10 noms; her earlier albums Renaissance and Lemonade both earned nine AOTY nominations.

Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us” snagged record and song of the year nominations, putting the Compton MC in a tie with Jay-Z for the most noms in each of those categories by a rapper. Roan and Carpenter both racked up nominations in each of the Big Four categories – album, record and song of the year and best new artist – marking the third time in Grammy history that two artists have achieved that quadfecta in the same year.

Eilish ran up her fifth record of the year nomination for “Birds of a Feather,” making the singer the first artist in Grammy history to roll up five record of the year nods before turning 23; Eilish will turn that age on Dec. 18. Grammy darling Swift got her record-extending eighth song of the year nomination for co-writing the Tortured Poets single “Fortnight,” a category she has yet to win in. Swift co-wrote “Fortnight” with Jack Antonoff and Post Malone, whose nomination marks his second in that category.

“Fortnight” is also up for record of the year, with Posty scoring additional attention in best pop duo/group performance for his Cowboy Carter duet with Bey on “Levii’s Jeans,” as well as best country duo/group performance for his smash single “I Had Some Help” with Morgan Wallen, which also got a nod for best country song.

Charli XCX might celebrate her Brat summer next year thanks to a record of the year nomination for her single “360,” as well as AOTY notices for Brat and best pop solo performance for “Apple,” among other noms.

Grupo Niche Reflects on 40 Years of Salsa Anthem ‘Cali Pachanguero’: ‘The Song Became a Myth’

Grupo Niche‘s “Cali Pachanguero” has transcended generations, cultures and language barriers. The fast-paced track, penned by the legendary Jairo Varela in 1984, took on a life of its own, becoming an unofficial anthem for Colombians around the world. Forty years later, the song continues to have a lasting impact not only on the new generation of Grupo Niche singers, but on salsa singers across the globe.

The band recently spoke to Billboard about the cultural significance of the song, and the importance of preserving the legacy of Varela, who died in 2012. “‘Cali Pachanguero’ is our popular anthem,” says group member Luis Araque Mejia. “People sometimes know more ‘Cali Pachanguero’ than they do Cali’s national anthem.”

Maestro Jairo Varela was a genius by composing and making all the arrangements of the song,” adds Adolfo Fito Echeverría, who is also one of the band’s lead singers. “But this song is also about regret and longing of someone who was in New York at the time, right? Many people when they listen to the song start digesting the whole idea of the track, and it identifies all of Latin America, all salsa singers, salsa groups that grew up with this music. The song became a myth.”

“Cali Pachanguero” marked a before-and-after for Grupo Niche. After the song was released, the band rose to national and international fame. Grupo Niche remains strong as ever, touring around the world with stops in Australia, Europe and the United States. The group is also set to release new music in the coming year.

Following that disaster of a presidential election, we are in need of some good news. Thankfully, while Donald Trump is working to take America back to the stone age, GTA 6 will be out, and serve as a fun distraction.

Speaking with investors, Rockstar Games parent company, Take-Two Interactive assured them that GTA 6, easily one of the most highly anticipated games ever, is still on track for a fall 2025 release.

The recent development in the GTA 6 newscycle was share during a company earnings call.

“Looking ahead, we expect fiscal 2026 to be a milestone year as we plan to release several blockbuster titles, including Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI in fall of 2025, Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country,”Take-Two President Karl Slatoff said during the call.

The news around GTA 6 has been nothing short of a whirlwind. The game was first announced to be in development back in 2022. Then the leaks started happening with videos of game footage hitting social media later that year.

It wouldn’t be until December that Rockstar Games was forced to drop the trailer for GTA 6 ahead of its initial reveal date because it also leaked.

GTA 6 is the follow-up to the incredibly successful video game GTA V. Grand Theft Auto V was originally released in 2013 and has gone on to sell over 200 million copies and will span three console generations.

GTA V is regarded as one of the most lucrative pieces of media, making more money than any book, film or video game ever.

What We Know About GTA 6

While we don’t know much details about the game, we do know that it will be the first game in the franchise to feature a female protagonist, and it will be returning to Vice City and take us to Leonida, the GTA equivalent of Florida.

Recently a former Rockstar Games developer who has worked on the game before he left the studio said we should expect nothing but greatness from the game.

We need fall 2025 to get here expeditiously, because we need this game in our lives ASAP.

Travis Scott & Playboi Carti’s ‘FE!N’ Hits 1 Billion Streams on Spotify

Travis Scott‘s ‘FE!N,” featuring Playboi Carti, has surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify, the streaming service announced on Thursday (Nov. 7).

“Travis Scott and Playboi Carti’s FE!N is the newest member of the BILLIONS CLUB,” Spotify wrote on X and Instagram. “Thanks to all the fans.” Carti shared the infographic on his own Instagram Story.

It’s Scott’s sixth song to join the Billions Club, following “Sicko Mode” from his 2018 third album Astroworld, “Goosebumps” from his 2016 sophomore LP Birds In the Trap Sing McKnight, “Highest in the Room,” “Butterfly Effect” from Astroworld and “Zeze” by Kodak Black, also featuring Offset. This marks Carti’s first song to accomplish the feat.

“FE!N” was featured on Scott’s fourth album, Utopia, which he released on July 28, 2023, through his label Cactus Jack and Epic Records. The set debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making it the Houston rapper’s third chart-topping album, and spent four weeks at the top. Utopia was nominated for best rap album at the 2024 Grammy Awards, where Scott performed “FE!N” alongside Carti as well as “My Eyes” and “I Know” in a fiery medley. Carti is nominated for best rap song for his feature on Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) and Ty Dolla $ign‘s “Carnival,” also featuring Rich the Kid, at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

Scott made a spectacle out of the song during his recent Circus Maximus Tour, performing it 10 times in a row during his stop at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center last December, and eight times during his stop at Milan’s Ippodromo Snai La Maura, where Italian locals mistook the rumbling from the show for an earthquake.

How Will Donald Trump’s Election Win Change the Music Industry?

The sweeping electoral victory of Donald Trump will change the U.S. government, and the country itself, in ways that no one can yet predict. So far, though, it appears that the music industry will not be affected as dramatically as other businesses.

“I don’t think there will be that much of a change,” said a senior executive at one of the major labels. Partly that’s because music, and copyright, are no longer the hot-button issues they were a decade ago. And partly that’s because, at a time of increased partisan rancor, copyright is one of a few genuinely bipartisan issues, according to a half-dozen executives. Because it brings together Democrats who tend to look favorably on the media business and Republicans who believe in strong property rights, passing legislation often depends more on building a coalition of legislators from both parties.

There are no music companies in Trump’s crosshairs, at least from his own public comments, and he tends to look favorably on entertainers, even when they tend not to return that respect. Indeed, right-wing Republicans have been far more critical of media companies and online platforms than of major labels and movie studios.

The most immediate music business issue before the government is the Department of Justice antitrust case against Live Nation Entertainment, which seeks to break up the company. Trump will appoint a new attorney general to replace Merrick Garland, and that appointee will almost certainly replace Jonathan Kanter, who runs the antitrust division. The future of the case will depend on Kanter’s replacement, and several music executives and antitrust experts said that it’s hard to predict how that person will proceed.

“We congratulate President-elect Trump on his election,” said a spokesperson for Live Nation Entertainment. “Live Nation is proud to help bring joy to fans through concerts, sports and other live events. We look forward to working with the incoming administration to continue driving the positive impacts our industry has on American jobs and local economies.”

Several executives without direct knowledge of the matter speculated that, for optics reasons, the DOJ would be less likely to drop the case than to pursue a low-stakes settlement, but all of them made clear that there was no way to know.

Right now, the big issue in the music business is artificial intelligence, and the industry has been lobbying for the Nurture Originals, Foster Art, and Keep Entertainment Safe (NO FAKES) Act, which would protect the voices and likenesses of human creators. The bill was introduced in the Senate in July and the House of Representatives in September. It has sponsors on both sides of the aisle, including Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.). (One might presume they do not agree on much else.) The industry is going to push to pass it in the “lame-duck” Congress, before the end of the year, but it will conflict with other priorities, and several executives said that would be a long shot. Otherwise, it will be re-introduced next year, and the changes in government are not expected to affect its chances much.

Some of the policies Trump has said he will pursue, such as tariffs for imports, could be bad for U.S. business on a broader level. This could make physical goods more expensive, especially merchandise, such as T-shirts. It could also make CDs and vinyl more expensive, although only by so much, since they could also be manufactured in the U.S.

It is also possible that changes to the tax system could affect catalog sales, as well as the desirability of songs and recordings as an investment. But it is unclear how much taxes will change — and other economic factors, such as interest rates, are likely to affect investment calculations more.

It’s from Wetzel’s album 9 Lives, which became his fourth top 10 on Top Country Albums when it opened at its No. 5 best in August. It’s also on Murph’s That Ain’t No Man That’s the Devil, released in September.

On the multimetric Hot Country Songs chart, “High Road” debuted at its No. 8 peak in June, awarding Wetzel and Murph their second top 10 each.

Wetzel recently wrapped the European leg of his Damn Near Normal World Tour 2024. Murph is set to perform next in Huntsville, Ala., on Nov. 23.

He’s on a Roll

“I Am Not Okay” by Jelly Roll dominates Country Airplay for a second week (32.3 million impressions, down 5%). Of his six straight No. 1s from his start at the format, the song marks his third multi-week ruler. “Need a Favor” led for four weeks starting in August 2023 and “Save Me,” with Lainey Wilson, notched two weeks on top last December.

Jelly Roll, who hoisted the trophy for best new artist at the 2023 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, is up for three awards this year, including the coveted entertainer of the year crown. This year’s ceremony airs Nov. 20 on ABC and will be available to stream the following day on Hulu.

Ed Sheeran Pays Tribute to Music Exec Max Lousada | Billboard News

Ed Sheeran honored outgoing CEO of Warner Music Group, Max Lousada, at the Music in Business UK Awards. Keep watching to get a peek at their speeches.

Narrator:

Ed Sheeran took to the stage at the “Music in Business UK Awards” to honor his friend and former CEO of Warner Music Group, Max Lousada. Max has had a hand in shaping the careers of many of today’s superstars like Dua Lipa, Rita Ora, Charlie XCX, and of course Ed Sheeran, to name a few. And he had this to say.

Ed Sheeran:

They don’t make people like him anymore, music people. And if they do, they only come around once in a generation. It’s not about having a big marketing brain or understanding algorithms or jumping on the new hot things. It’s about recognizing what are great great songs and who are great great artists and allowing them to grow.

Narrator:

The event was a loving affair, with Max sharing a few words himself after accepting his awards.

Max Lousada:

I kinda really wanted to dedicate this as a music executive and more importantly as a music fan, to everyone who backs new artists that have something to say.

Narrator:

Congrats go out to Max. And stay tuned to Billboard News for all the latest.

2025 Grammy Nominations: Which Snubbed Artist Should’ve Gotten Nods in the Big Four? Vote!

The Recording Academy has unveiled its nominations list for the 2025 Grammys, and some pretty huge names weren’t on it — at least, not in all of the Big Four categories fans might have been expecting.

Though stars such as Taylor Swift, Billie Eillish, Beyoncé, Charli XCX and more all received wide recognition on the list of nods announced Friday (Nov. 8) — with Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter both up for song, record and album of the year as well as best new artist next year — other A-listers were notably absent from one or all of those major divisions. Ariana Grande, for instance, didn’t earn anything in the Big Four despite producing two Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits (“Yes, And?” and “We Can’t Be Friends”) from her Billboard 200-topping album Eternal Sunshine, while Shaboozey’s 16-week-and-counting No. 1 single “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” earned song-of-the-year shine, but was passed over completely for record of the year.

Similar situations arose for “Die With a Smile” collaborators Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, as well as Benson Boone, each of whom was recognized in certain Big Four categories, but were paid dust in others that would’ve made sense given their respective charting prowesses in 2024. Hozier also had a huge year with “Too Sweet,” but was treated sourly by the song and record of the year categories, while LISA and Sexyy Red were notably absent from this year’s class of best new artist hopefuls. Plus, Dua Lipa received nothing for Radical Optimism, nor did Post Malone get any Big Four praise for his banner F-1 Trillion year (though he did add some song and record nods to his belt thanks to his “Fortnight” duet with Swift).

Rashida Jones Honors Father Quincy Jones In Moving Tribute

10th Annual AAFCA Awards, Inside, Taglyan Complex, Los Angeles, USA - 06 Feb 2019

Rashida Jones, an actress and award-winining filmmaker, penned a moviing tribue to her father, the late producer Quincy Jones. Taking to social media, Rashida Jones remembered Quincy Jones as a protective and loving father, even in the midst of his creative endeavors.

Rashida Jones, 48, posted a photo of herself as an infant while being cradled by Quincy Jones, sharing how she would walk in on him creating music late at night yet never turned her away.

From Instagram:

My dad was nocturnal his whole adult life. He kept “jazz hours” starting in high school and never looked back. When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him. Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music). He would never send me back to bed. He would smile and bring me into his arms while he continued to work…there was no safer place in the world for me.

Jones continued her tribute with “He was a giant. An icon. A culture shifter. A genius” before concluding that she was honored to be his child.

Rashida Jones won the Grammy Award for Best Music Film in 2019 for the biographic film, Quincy, which focused on the life of her father.

In Canada: MTV Leaving Airwaves in 2025, Citing ‘Changing Audiences’

After 18 years on Canadian airwaves, MTV Canada is preparing to go off the air on Dec. 31. The decision to shutter the specialty channel was confirmed by Bell Media, with a company spokesperson citing “changing audiences” on specialty TV as the reason for the closure.

MTV Canada launched in 2006 as part of the CTV network, and the channel offered viewers a Canadianized version of the MTV brand, one that has had a huge international impact. MTV Canada’s programming provided a mix of reality TV, music content, talk, lifestyle and pop culture-oriented documentary programming.

Many of the channel’s most popular shows were talk and reality-based, airing The Hills and Teen Mom. MTV Live, launched in March 2006, launched the career of co-host Dan Levy. The flagship half-hour variety show ran for six seasons, and won a Gemini award for Best Talk Series.

Trending on Billboard

Now best known as the co-creator and co-star of hit Emmy-winning Canadian TV comedy Schitt’s Creek, Dan Levy would gain prominence in Canada co-hosting, co-writing and co-producing the MTV Canada ratings hit The Hills: After Show (later just The After Show) with Jessi Cruickshank.

The channel later become increasingly dependent on such American reality shows as Floribama Shore, Jersey Shore: Family Vacation and Caught In The Act: Unfaithful in its programming, and by the end was playing multiple hours per day of the comedy reality clip show Ridiculousness.

South of the border, the MTV brand has also suffered in recent years, with owner Paramount Media Networks, shutting down MTV News and pulling down its website’s online archives in May 2023, as part of a massive round of layoffs at Paramount.

MTV Canada’s name and branding was used under a licensing agreement with Paramount Global. Unlike MTV channels in the United States and internationally, the channel was restricted in its ability to carry music programming until 2015, due to conditions in the channel’s license issued by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).

Those restrictions meant that, unlike its international counterparts, MTV Canada never employed the “Music Television” tagline. As a result, in terms of music programming, the channel struggled to compete with the homegrown and much-beloved MuchMusic channel, which is also owned by Bell Media.
