If Tyler, The Creator Were President, He Would ‘Take Podcast Mics Away’

Tyler, The Creator has never been shy about voicing his opinion.

The rapper and producer recently sat down with with Billboard for The No. 1s Issue cover story, where he talked about a variety of topics with writer Rembert Browne — including podcasters. As a leader of a generation that has grown up with social media, Tyler likes to engage with fans on his accounts, but feels like sometimes people aren’t articulating why they like or dislike something for the sake of getting a take off. “Expound on that f–king thought, b–ch,” he says of all the opinions floating around the Internet.

He then took it a step further and threatened to take podcasts away if he ever became president of the United States, proclaiming, “If I was president, the first thing I would do is take podcast mics away from n—as.”

This isn’t first time the West Coast artist has expressed frustration with today’s rap media landscape, telling Nardwuar in 2023, “We’re at a point where a musician who you know for music is being interviewed on a platform about music talking in detail about music and people are like ‘Why does he keep doing that?’” Adding, “But if I was on here gossiping on so and so, talking about beef, and so on people would feed into it. No, we need to get back to talking about music. … Talk about your album, talk about your music.”

50 Cent Shows Drake’s Supposed Opps List | Billboard News

50 cent went on ‘Big Boy TV’ and trolled Drake’s supposed opps list. Keep watching to see what he said.

Tetris Kelly:

50 Cent shows off Drake’s opps list. The “God Gave Me Style” rapper sat down for an interview with legendary radio host Big Boy on ‘Big Boy TV.’ Known for speaking whatever’s on his mind, Fif goes on to explain why a popular rapper like Drake could amass such a large number of enemies.

50 Cent:

This is the opp page. He was just winning consistently more than anybody else in the culture. And then these people start to turn into people that feel like they’re opps all over the page because they keep watching him win.

Tetris Kelly:

Having a little fun with his explanation, 50 holds up what he calls “Drake’s Opp List,” which featured more than 60 names hilariously listed in alphabetical order. Some of the names include: Rihanna, The Weeknd, LeBron James and, of course, Kendrick Lamar. There’s no proof at this time that Drake’s opp list and names on it are real. Puerto Rican Rapper Clarent Signs With Warner Music Latina

Rising Puerto Rican rapper Clarent has signed a global recording deal with Warner Music Latina, the company tells Billboard.

The signing comes on the heels of Clarent’s success with the single “IA” alongside Puerto Rican urban artist Mora. The track has amassed more than 40 million streams on Spotify alone and topped Spotify’s Top 200 chart in Spain.

Born in Caparra Terrace, San Juan, Clarent (real name Fabián Cartagena Torres) began putting out music independently just last year. Since then, he’s amassed millions of streams thanks to tracks that sound raw and real and connected to life on the streets. His song “Traqueto” alongside iZaak has nearly 26 million streams on Spotify, while his solo track “Enzacio” has nearly 14 million.

“Ready for this new season — big thanks to the Warner fam for keeping it real. This is where boys become men,” said Clarent in a statement.

“We are thrilled to partner with Clarent and his team to help build on his unique vision and take his career to new heights,” said Alejandro Duque, president of Warner Music Latin America. “Clarent is a perfect example of how genres get disrupted and authentic sounds emerge and pave new roads in music.”

Signing Clarent was a months-long process for Warner, added Roberto Andrade, MD of Warner Music Latina. “This isn’t just another record deal — this is an alliance,” he said in a statement. “We crafted a partnership out of months of mutual understanding, collaboration, and shared vision.”

Andrade and Duque worked closely with Clarent and his manager, Jonniel (Jadiel Nuñez Olivera) of Rythmz51, on the deal. On Dec. 13, Clarent is releasing a new track under Warner titled “Babayaga,” a moody trap song.

“Shoutout to the team at Warner Music Latina for believing in this vision and backing us all the way,” said Jonniel. “This is just the kickoff to something amazing. Clarent’s got that raw, undeniable talent, and I’m stoked to be on this journey with him.”

Pusha T Promises the New Clipse Album Produced by Pharrell Is ‘Done’

Clipse are apparently making their triumphant return as Pusha T confirmed that they finished recording their fourth studio album.

While sitting down with journalist Ari Melber for Saint & Citizen’s Saint Sessions Live at Art Basel in Miami, King Push seemed confident that the 15-year gap between albums will be worth the wait.

“It’s been 15 years since we dropped an album, and we’ve been at it since ’98-’99 whatever it was, but I think people are just gonna witness greatness, man. This is a chemistry, this is a brotherhood. And when I say that, I mean Pharrell as well, he produced it from top to bottom.”

T added that he and his Clipse partner No Malice were “very precious” and “very, very meticulous” about their music, saying that the new project will be worth the wait. “We take long,” he said. We always take, people be mad, but it’s okay. ‘Cause it’s done and I’m tellin’ y’all it’s done. I promise you, I have it in my phone.”

During that same talk with Ari Melber, Push commented on the Drake vs. Kendrick beef, saying the Compton rapper “1,000 percent” won the battle and that “suing is crazy” in reference to the legal actions the Toronto rapper is currently trying to pursue.

There’s no official release date yet for the tentatively titled Let God Sort Em Out, but both members talked about the forthcoming project with Vulture back in June where they both equated their rhyme style to a veteran athlete utilizing fundamentals. “This is a high taste-level piece of work,” Push told the outlet. “You can only have that level of taste when you have the fundamentals down to a science. I think it’s been definitely missing. Then there’s the competitive aspect.”

His brother No Malice echoed that sentiment, while adding that authenticity is the recipe for the group’s standing in rap music. “It’s what rap should look like if you’re real about your craft, real about your experience, real about your storytelling,” he said. “It’s bringing the fans along to see the growth, not trying to fit in or fabricate.”

They also premiered a new song that has yet to be released on the runway during Paris Fashion Week during Pharrell’s unveiling of the Spring/Summer 2025 Men’s Collection for Louis Vuitton.

Billboard Latin Artist on the Rise: Luis Alfonso Says Watching Films Inspired His Passion for Music

As Billboard Latin Artist on the Rise, Luis Alfonso speaks about his journey watching black-and-white films as a child to playing in coliseums. Watch the singer reflect on his rising star.

Luis Alfonso:
Hello! How are you, my beautiful people? I’m Luis Alfonso, the great man, and I’m Billboard’s Latin Artist on the Rise. Again. Rise … OK! Hello! How are you, my beautiful people? I’m Luis Alfonso, the great man, and I’m Billboard’s Latin Artist on the Rise.

My first memory with music … The person who instilled this passion within me was my maternal grandfather. His name was Fernando, Luis Fernando Vargas. He was very fond of Mexican cultures. Since I was a child, he instilled in me the Mexican passion by watching Cantinflas’ movies. I used to watch Cantinflas’ movies in black-and-white, Jorge Negrete, Pedro Infante, Javier Solís, of all the Mexican actors of yesteryear. From there, the roots of love for music were born.

I started out loving ranchera and the Mexican icons. Also, hand in hand with the passion for music with which we grew up, which is the popular regional music of Colombia, listening to the music of Mr. Darío Gómez, icons in our country. Caballero Gaucho, Viscontis. Better said, music in which the old ones of us sat down to tell the story and listened to it in the “lomplecitos,” on the jukebox, on the radio. They are the older men who took the musical machete and made the path on which the new musical wave is walking on today.  And they are old men that you see on the street or they sit with you and talk to you and give advice.

Staff List: The 50 Best Dance Tracks of 2024

Dance music can often really complex — with all the styles of music that fall under the umbrella term and the countless sounds, artists, fans, parties, opinions and cities that make up the global culture and community we usually just refer to as “the scene.” It’s also quite simple, when one considers that what’s ultimately fueling this world is the deeply primal, very human desire to get together and dance.

In 2024, returning master Jamie xx distilled this point on his comeback album In Waves, with call to arms lyrics that encouraged that “All you children gather round, we will dance and we will whirl. All you children gather round, we will dance — together.”

Whether that sense of togetherness was one you felt when pushed up against the rail while seeing your favorite artist alongside your best friends and the news pals you just met in the pit, or the old acquaintances you were delighted to run into on the dancefloor, or just that most special relationship between a person and their headphones, in 2024 dance music brilliantly accomplished what it has a special capacity to do — make us feel connected. This is not a small thing in an increasingly online and isolated world.

While we were all out there going for it, or just at home enjoying living room listening, there were a select few tracks that raised spirits a bit higher, made heads bob a touch harder, got the blood pumping faster and generally just defined the year in dance music.

These are the 50 best dance tracks of 2024, presented alphabetically by artist.

Mr.Greendot himself, NBA Youngboy has officially been sentenced to 23 months in prison & 60 months of probation. Which means the Louisiana rapper will be coming home in 2026. Youngboy, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, got time served for his sentence, which counts until May 2024. He made a deal to settle two federal charges. One could land him 23 months in prison, and the other comes with 5 years of probation and a $200,000 fine.

He and his lawyers signed the agreement on Tuesday after locking it in with the feds back in September. YoungBoy admitted that while shooting a rap video in Baton Rouge, he had a Glock 21 .45 and a Masterpiece Arms MPA30T 9mm handgun. He also admitted to having a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol at his crib in Huntsville, Utah, in April 2024. As part of the deal, he agreed to give up the guns.

NBA Youngboy’s Godmother, Kyrie Garcia spoke out about his character being questioned, “I just want people to see Kentrell as a human, and there’s a whole other side to these things … he’s a human, and he has a good heart”.

Fans hope the rapper comes home asap so he can start dropping some more projects as YB dropped 4 projects in 2023 (I Rest My Case, Don’t Try This At Home, Richest Opp, Decided 2). Some of his biggest streaming songs coming out of those projects like, ‘Deep Down’, ‘Now Who’, & ‘B*tch Let’s Do It’.

More news to come for NBA Yuognboy’s case to come as the story develops.
