2024 was a helluva year for the Hip-Hop culture as we all witnessed the downfalls of The Diddler, the King of The North, Drake, and surprise breakup of Remy Ma and Papoose.

Naturally all of these things ended up juicy material for Uncle Murda’s visuals to his “Rap Up 2024” in which he used footage of everything that went down last year while spitting his bars about the eventful year that was 2024 which will more than likely all kinds of ripple effects for years to come.

Steve Bannon Is No Fan of “Truly Evil” Elon Musk, Vows To “Take Him Down”

There is some MAGA infighting going on. Steve Bannon, one of Donald Trump’s most loyal allies, is letting it be known he is no fan of Trump’s new homie, Elon Musk.

Spotted on The Hill, two shirt-wearing former adviser to President-Elect Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, vows to “take down” Tesla chief Elon Musk, and, in a classic pot calling the kettle black moment, describing Trump’s pick to run DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) as “truly evil.”

Per Mediaite, Bannon expressed his disdain for Musk in an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. Musk’s support of H-1B visas is fueling this MAGA feud.

Per The Hill:

“I will have Elon Musk run out of here by Inauguration Day,” Bannon said. “He is a truly evil guy, a very bad guy. I made it my personal thing to take this guy down.”

With Trump set to take office for the second time shortly, Musk’s influence in the next administration remains unclear.

Bannon criticized Musk over the continued debate over H-1B visas. Musk is supportive of the work program that allows the U.S. to attract international talent. Trump’s base, however, is not supportive of the program, fueling a fight over the topic.

“This thing of the H-1B visas, it’s about the entire immigration system is gamed by the tech overlords, they use it to their advantage, the people are furious,” Bannon said.

What’s even more hilarious is that Bannon, who has been accused of being a racist, slammed Musk’s heritage, calling South Africans the most racist people on Earth.

“He should go back to South Africa,” Bannon continued. “Why do we have South Africans, the most racist people on Earth, white South Africans, we have them making any comments at all on what goes on in the United States?”

Bannon didn’t stop there, adding that Musk has the maturity of a “little boy” and is only trying to add to his ridiculous wealth.

We don’t agree with Bannon on anything, but he’s not lying there.

Bad Bunny’s ‘DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS’ Debuts at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums Chart

Bad Bunny banks his ninth straight No. 1 project on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart as DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS debuts atop the Jan. 18-dated list. The 17-track set also opens at No. 2 on the overall Billboard 200, No. 1 on the Top Streaming Albums, and No. 1 on the Latin Rhythm Albums charts.

DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS launches at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums with 122,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. during the Jan. 3-9 tracking week, according to Luminate. The set was released Jan. 5 via Rimas Entertainment, two days after the beginning of the tracking week which runs weekly Friday through Thursday. Thus, it arrives with five days of activity instead of the usual seven days.

DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS was available via streamers and through download services to purchase. The download version available on Benito’s webstore and the iTunes Store for $4.99. A physical version of the album has not been released. Of the album’s starting total, 8,000 units come from album sales, enough for a No. 6 start on the overall Top Album Sales chart. The set is the only Latin album to appear on the chart’s top 10 since Ivan Cornejo’s Mirada debuted at No. 9 with 9,000 copies sold in August 2024.

Streaming activity contributes 113,500 units which represents 152.6 million official on-demand streams of the 17 songs on the album. The sum yields the largest streaming week for a Latin album in over a year, since Bad Bunny’s own Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va A Pasar Mañana launched at No. 1 on Top Streaming Albums with 239.56 million on-demand official streams for its songs (Oct. 28, 2023-dated chart). Track-equivalent album units comprise the remaining 500 units of DeBÍ’s first week sum.

With DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, Bad Bunny lands his ninth straight No. 1 on Top Latin Albums, the entirety of his charting releases. The streak began with 2019’s X100PRE which led for 46 weeks. That same year, Benito scored his second champ through the J Balvin-jointed set Oasis (eight weeks atop). YHLQMDLG, however, became his most profitable project to date, with 70 weeks at No. 1, the longest-leading album overall since Top Latin Albums begun in 1993. DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS Takes Over Hot Latin Songs: reinforcing his habitual performance following the debut of an album, Bad Bunny seizes the Hot Latin Songs tally as the complete album charts on the current list that blends airplay, streaming activity and digital sales. The set was preceded by “EL CLúb” which rises 9-4 with the Greatest Gainer/ Sales & Streaming honors, and “PIToRRO DE COCO” that dips 10-11.

“NUEVAYoL” leads the album’s debuting cuts, bowing at No. 1 with 13 million official U.S. streams, the most clicks among the album’s 15 debuts. That sum translates to a No. 18 on the overall Streaming Songs chart and a No. 1 debut on Latin Streaming Songs. The song, produced by MAG, La Paciencia and Justo Barreto, contains samples of “Un Verano en Nueva York” by El Gran Combo De Puerto Rico (1975) and of Félix Trinidad Post Fight interview scene from the TV show The Fight of the Millennium (Oscar De La Hoya vs. Félix Trinidad).

LiAngelo Ball Signs Label Deal With Def Jam/UMG: Report

Professional basketball player and “Tweaker” rapper LiAngelo Ball has signed a label deal with Def Jam and Universal Music Group (UMG), according to ESPN reporter Shams Charania.

On Monday (Jan. 13), Charania, whose main beat is NBA news, tweeted that the recording deal for Ball, who performs under the name G3, was confirmed by “a representative from” Ball’s label, Born2Ball Music Group. He added that sources said “the deal is worth as much as $13 million, with $8 million guaranteed, and gives Ball full ownership of music and his own record label.”

UMG did not immediately respond to Billboard‘s request for comment on Monday.

“Tweaker,” which Ball released under the performance name G3, has become a viral sensation since a clip of Ball playing the song for YouTuber n3on took off on social media earlier this month. After Ball dropped the song officially on Jan. 3, the track has racked up millions of streams, memes, and placements during live programs like NBA on TNT. He recently snagged a performance slot at Rolling Loud California 2025 in March. 

Ball — along with his brothers Lonzo and LaMelo — first made headlines in the mid-2010s when all three played basketball for Chino Hills High School in California. Their father, LaVar Ball, taught them how to play the game and proclaimed that all three would eventually play in the NBA. While Lonzo (the oldest) and LaMelo (the youngest) have had varying degrees of success as NBA players, LiAngelo has struggled to earn a permanent spot on a team. However, he’s been able to play professionally overseas. “Tweaker” is his first officially released song under the G3 Gelo name.

Beyoncé Donates $2.5 Million To L.A. Wildfire Relief

Beyoncé is putting her money where her mouth is and is lending a financial hand to those in need who were directly impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires.

Spotted on Variety through her BeyGOOD charity foundation, the Houston singer is donating $2.5 million to help those families who have suffered tremendous losses during the Los Angeles wildfires rebuild, specifically the Altadena and Pasadena, both of which have a high concentration of Black residents.

BeyGOOD joins the still-growing list of organizations, such as The Walt Disney Company, which pledged $15 million to relief and rebuilding efforts, and Paramount and Fox Corp., which donated $1 million to the American Red Cross and Los Angeles Fire Department.

Per Variety:

BeyGOOD, which was established in 2013, will provide the funds to families in Altadena and Pasadena, two areas that were devastated by wildfires that broke out on Tuesday. In addition to helping those who lost their homes and possessions, BeyGOOD will also assist churches and community centers in other impacted areas to address the immediate needs of people affected by the fires.

Despite all of the misinformation out there and blame incorrectly being thrown at L.A. Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom by GOP officials and the President-Elect, the wildfires, which were wildly unpredictable thanks to the powerful Santa Ana winds stoking the flames, continue to ravage the city.

Eleven people are dead as a result of the wildfires, with the toll expected to rise as the search effort for missing people and survivors currently happening.

It’s good to see celebs like Beyoncé being active instead of on social media placing blame on people like Khloe Kardashian, who faced the wrath of Black women after she decided to slam Karen Bass on Instagram.

The Game Joins Front Lines of LA Fire Relief Efforts & Launches Animal Rescue Mission

The tragic Los Angeles wildfires have left thousands of California residents devastated and The Game is stepping up to do his part in helping his city get back on its feet.

The Compton native has spent the last few days delivering food, drinks and supplies like blankets to help the Pasadena firefighters tirelessly battling the blaze.

“Me & my team have been down here with the brave men & women fire fighters on the grown day in & day out assisting anyway I can to make their days a little easier,” he wrote in a heartfelt IG post. “The hearts & level of humility in each & every soul down here is a beautiful thing to witness & be a part of. These fighters are coming from all over the city, state & country to help put an end to what has been a long week of catastrophic events caused by these fires.”

Rocking a Pasadena Fire Department cap, Game posted several photos with the firefighters and carrying items such as pillows and coffee to assist the first responders as well as spread awareness for what citizens can do to help out.

On Monday (Jan. 13), Game shifted his focus to an animal rescue mission where he looked to save abandoned pets and reunite them with their rightful owners.

“Started day 5 on an animal rescue mission & it’s a miracle that some of these animals survived the fires seeing the aftermath of what occurred here,” he wrote. “Brought food & water in hopes they’d trust the team enough to get them to a nearby shelter where hopefully most of them can be reunited with their owners.”

The 45-year-old posted an array of rescued animals ranging from dogs to cats and chickens in the Pasadena and Altadena areas.

Fans appreciated Game’s philanthropy and saluted his generosity in the comment section for being one of the only celebrities to show up on the front lines.

L.A. radio host Big Boy also showered Game with praise for being outside during a time of tragedy. “The Game is out there… I was reading the comments and it was so much positivity under that,” Big Boy said. “And if he can get someone else out there — just one more person out there, that’s beautiful.”

The Weeknd Delays ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ Album & Cancels Rose Bowl Concert Amid LA Wildfires

The Weeknd has delayed the release of his highly anticipated album Hurry Up Tomorrow in light of the ongoing wildfire crisis in Los Angeles. His album release show at the Rose Bowl, which had been slated for Jan. 25, has also been canceled.

The hitmaker broke the news to fans Monday (Jan. 13) with a post on Instagram. “Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, the Rose Bowl Show has been cancelled and the album date has been postponed to 01.31.25,” reads the message, which he signed, “With love, Abel.”

“The city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time,” it continues. “My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild.”

Hurry Up Tomorrow, the highly anticipated third act of The Weeknd’s album trilogy — which began with 2020’s Billboard 200-topper After Hours and continued with 2022’s Dawn FM — had originally been slated to arrive Jan. 24. He had planned to celebrate the release the next day with a “One Night Only” performance at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena; the arena is currently being used as a donation collection site for L.A. residents affected by the fires, according to NBC4 Los Angeles.

Fans who purchased tickets for the showcase through Ticketmaster will receive refunds automatically. Those who bought seats from a third-party reseller should reach out to their points of purchase.

The Weeknd’s announcement comes about six days after wind-fueled fires first broke out in Pacific Palisades, rapidly traveling across the Los Angeles area faster than first responders could put them out. More blazes have since broken out in areas affecting the Hollywood Hills, Pasadena, Altadena, Sylmar and Calabasas, displacing tens of thousands of residents and burning down countless structures across a combined 38,549 acres, according to CNN. The news site also reports that at least 24 people have died in the destruction.

The Weeknd’s concert is just the latest L.A. event to be canceled due to the fires. Multiple other shows in the area have also been removed from the calendar, as have a number of pre-Grammys parties. The Grammys are still expected to go live Feb. 2 at Crypto.com Arena, while the Critics Choice Awards have been postponed from Jan. 12 to Jan. 26.

Machel Montano Brings the Islands to NPR ‘Tiny Desk’ With Series’ First Soca Set

2025 has been around for less than two weeks, and Machel Montano is already making history.

On Monday (Jan. 13), the Trinidadian music icon treated NPR’s Tiny Desk series to its very first soca set. Born out of ’70s calypso in Trinidad and Tobago, soca music is characterized by its fast-paced, high-energy rhythms sourced from the traditional Indian percussion and rhythms that recording artist Lord Shorty (later Ras Shorty I) added to calypso.

Montano — who boasts a staggering four-decade career that included a 1986 appearance on Star Search and a hit single from his primary school days — delivered a warm, lively set that included hits across groovy and power soca such as “One More Time,” “Dance With You,” “Fast Wine,” “Like Ah Boss,” “Famalay” and “Soca Kingdom.” Every member of his backing band wore Monk Music T-shirts, a nod to Montano’s self-founded record label, artist services and music distribution company.

“Today we made history. For the first time ever, soca music has graced the iconic NPR Tiny Desk stage, and I am filled with gratitude, and an overwhelming sense of pride, to represent our culture on this global platform,” Montano wrote on his official Instagram page. “This isn’t just my moment, it’s OUR moment. A moment for every Soca lover, every Caribbean soul, and every person who carries the rhythm of the islands in their heart.”

At the age of 9, Montano performed at The Theater in New York City’s Madison Square as a support act for Mighty Sparrow and other major calypso acts. Years of local success, hit singles and carnival road anthems followed, and by 2010, Pitbull tapped him to serve as special guest art for the U.S. leg of his Mr. Worldwide Canival Tour. Two years later, Montano became a Triple Crown Winner, with “Mr. Fete” earning the Groovy Soca Monarch title, while “Pump Your Flag” snagged Power Soca Monarch and Road March victories. In 2014, he won the Soul Train Music Award for best international performance with “Ministry of Road (M.O.R.),” beating out stiff competition such as Sam Smith‘s “Stay With Me.” By 2016, Montano brought soca all the way to the Coachella Valley, coming out as a special guest for Major Lazer‘s topline set; he remixed the EDM trio’s Ariana Grande-assisted “All My Love” in 2015.

Machel Montano has earned three top 10 Reggae Albums: 2015’s Monk Monte (No. 2), 2016’s Monk Evolution (No. 5) and 2019’s G.O.A.T. (No. 1).

Metallica Donates $500,000 to Los Angeles Fire Relief Through All Within My Hands Foundation

Metallica is using their platform to give back to communities within Los Angeles that have been affected by the catastrophic fires across the city.

The band’s philanthropic foundation, All Within My Hands, is granting $500,000 to relief efforts carried out by the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund and the Pasadena Community Foundation’s Eaton Canyon Fire Relief and Recovery Fund, per a press release. The foundation “dedicates itself to creating sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services,” says its website.

The devastating fires started last week in the Pacific Palisades on the west side of Los Angeles, and by Altadena in the east. Other areas, including Studio City and Runyon Canyon, also had fires — though they have since been contained and put out.

At the time of publication, the Palisades fire has burned more than 23,000 acres and is only 14% contained, while the east-side Eaton fires are 33% contained at 14,000 acres.  In the past week, the city has suffered 24 deaths, nearly 100,000 people under evacuation orders, and more than 12,000 structures destroyed.

A number of resources are available for those who have lost their homes or need assistance in other ways. MusiCares and the Recording Academy have launched the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort to support music professionals impacted by the crisis, making a combined pledge of $1 million to kick off the efforts. People who have worked in the music industry for more than five years may qualify for immediate assistance, including up to $1,500 in financial aid and $500 in food vouchers.
