Alicia Keys & Egypt
Keys featured her son Egypt on a cover of “Over the Rainbow” for her Sweet Dreams EP. The singer also shares a second boy, Genesis, with star producer husband Swizz Beatz.
It takes just one star to become a household name, but a truly talented lineage to make for a powerful family legacy.
Such is the case for many of music’s biggest names, who have not only passed down their talents to their kids, but invited their offspring into the studio to record collaborations before they’re even out of booster seats. Take Blue Ivy and Rumi Carter, for instance: The two girls have already done something thousands of artists would kill for — duet with Beyoncé, who just so happens to be their mom. The elder sister is one of history’s youngest Grammy winners, thanks to her participation at nine years old in Bey’s “Brown Skin Girl” music video, while six-year-old Rumi’s cameo on “Protector” was one of the buzziest parts of the “Texas Hold ‘Em” superstar’s Cowboy Carter album. It helps to know the boss.
Once in a blue moon, though, a musician’s child will grow up to become a superstar just like their parents. Just look at Billy Ray Cyrus, who collaborated with daughter Miley in her Hannah Montana days before the “Flowers” singer went on to become a full-fledged pop icon in her own right. Nancy Sinatra, Matteo Bocelli and Landon Barker have all also developed their own successful music careers independently of their parents over the years, keeping the family business going strong.
