Will Ferrell slipped on something from the very back of his closet for a recent Los Angeles Kings vs. Philadelphia Flyers hockey game, with the actor revisiting his iconic Buddy the Elf costume more than 20 years after Elf premiered Sunday (Dec. 29).

As captured in photos and videos from the match, Ferrell sits by the ice at Crypto.com Arena with his wife, art collector Viveca Paulin, sitting to his left, and one of their three sons sitting to his right. With a cigarette hanging from his lips and a drink in his hand, the Saturday Night Live alum sticks out like a sore thumb wearing an ornate, bright green coat and pointed hat, looking like an older and more grizzled version of the happy-go-lucky character he originated in Jon Favreau’s beloved 2003 holiday rom-com Elf.
While reporting from the scene, FanDuel Sports Network’s Carrlyn Bathe says in one video that Ferrell told her of his getup, “It was a tough holiday season.”

“He’s got a five ‘o clock shadow, looking a little bit disgruntled,” the broadcaster added. “He’s looking for a Kings win.”
Fortunately for Buddy/Ferrell, the Kings did pull ahead for a 5-4 victory against the Flyers Sunday.
The hilarious outing comes just a couple months after the Step Brothers star hosted his Ultimate DJ House Party in late October. The musical event took place in Chicago with Swedish House Mafia as headliners, and the proceeds went toward Ferrell’s Cancer For College organization, which gives college scholarships to cancer survivors.
Also in October, Ferrell guest-starred in an episode of Charlie Puth’s mock reality show. In a clip originally shared exclusively with Billboard, the comedian teased the musician during a workout session, “So it’s like a reality show? Like The Masked Singer? You should be a bat, or a seahorse, or a giraffe.”
Ferrell also gave Puth some hard-earned advice about TV in the clip, telling him, “There is only one entity who has final say in television: Judge Judy.”

Will Ferrell has ramped up his support for Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign in its final hours by filming an ad and doing a street comedy sketch.
The presidential election campaign season is coming to a close, and comedian Will Ferrell has been putting huge effort into his support for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris. Last week, he teamed up with fellow comedian Billy Eichner to revive Eichner’s beloved video series with a special episode entitled Billy on The Street with Will Ferrell: Loud White Men For Kamala Harris.
The three-minute commercial shows Eichner and Ferrell on the streets of New York City encountering pedestrians and loudly compelling them to vote for Harris and her running mate Tim Walz and, per a statement from Eicnher’s publicist, “do everything we possibly can to protect Americans from Donald Trump in these crucial final days of Early Voting and exactly one week before Election Day.” The video was a hit online, earning over 12 million views just 24 hours after it premiered on the Bros actor’s social media profiles. It was the latest episode in a series that ran online for two years, raising Eichner’s profile in the comedy world.
Ferrell also starred in an ad specifically for the Harris-Walz campaign where he implores undecided voters – particularly one named Gary who he addresses in a comically menacing fashion. ‘This election is going to be one of the closest in history, your vote will make the difference – that means you Gary…,’ he begins, looking directly into the camera. “Oh, blah, blah, blah, I’m just one person – no, shut the f—k up Gary.” The ad continues with somber music as the Talladega Nights star underscores how close the victory was for President Joe Biden in 2020: ‘Last time only a few thousand votes kept Trump out of office and this time we will hold you personally responsible,’ before closing out imploring “Gary” to go out and vote.
The ads come as numerous celebrities have thrown their weight behind Vice President Harris’ campaign in the past weeks and days, with Cardi B and Alicia Keys joining her for campaign rallies in Wisconsin over the past weekend and famed actor Robert DeNiro was spotted engaging potential voters at the tailgate for the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday (November 3).

On Monday (April 17), The Late Late Show With James Corden unveiled the lineup for its final show including Harry Styles and Will Ferrell.
“Just announced: @Harry_Styles and Will Ferrell will be the guests for our #LateLateShow finale on April 27!” the late-night talk show tweeted along with a graphic of the singer and actor flanking the Late Late Show logo.
The former One Direction star has been a longtime friend of the show. Not only has he done multiple Carpool Karaoke segments and his own Crosswalk Concert over the years, he’s also served as guest host more than once in James Corden‘s absence and had his own weeklong residency behind the desk. Styles even let the host create a music video for his Harry’s House cut “Daylight” on a budget of just $300. (Memorably, the pals took over the Brooklyn apartment of some serious Harries for the DIY shoot’s hilariously cramped location.)
Styles being confirmed for the finale also follows Corden’s social team shooting down rumors that the show was actually staging a One Direction reunion featuring all five members for its grand goodbye, considering the host was such a vocal advocate for the group in their 2010s heyday. “FALSE ALARM,” the show’s official Twitter account wrote last week over a screenshot of a British tabloid that ran with the rumor, adding, “Nobody loves the boys more than us … but this story just isn’t true.”
Meanwhile, Styles has sparked some online gossip of his own in recent days following footage of him locking lips with Emily Ratajkowski on a street in Tokyo going viral.

Lil Nas X had a very special guest at his concert in Los Angeles on Wednesday night: none other than A-list actor Will Ferrell.
Following the show, the rapper couldn’t help but rave about meeting the funnyman, posting a photo of the two backstage at LA’s Crypto.com Arena with the caption: “WILL FERRELL CAME TO MY F—IN CONCERT ! nobody can tell me sh–.”
However, Lil Nas X did end up finding himself in some hot water after making a joke in the replies to his tweet. One follower asked, “Where is Will’s hand?” and the superstar responded, “he couldn’t resist getting a good hand full of this big fat a–. and i couldn’t say no tbh.”
And just like that, Uproxx ran a story with a headline treating the “Industry Baby” artist’s quip as serious, leading him to post a screenshot of the story and write, “This why i can’t joke around on twitter no more lmaoo.”
When he’s not modeling for Coach’s new “Courage to Be Real” campaign, the prankster has found plenty of other outlets for his practical jokes as of late, including prank-calling famous friends like Lizzo, Olivia Rodrigo and Troye Sivan with his wax figure at Madame Tussauds Hollywood.
During his ongoing Long Live Montero Tour, Lil Nas X has also sent pizza to religious protesters outside Fenway Park and stopped the show in Atlanta for an emergency bathroom break.
