Wendy Williams has finally received some favorable news regarding her guardianship. A doctor has ruled she doesn’t have dementia.

As spotted on TMZ, Wendy Williams may be going into the new year on her own free will. According to the celebrity gossip site, a neurologist has ruled that she does not have frontotemporal dementia. The medical expert tested her last month and provided her team with the results. This independent exam contradicts an earlier test ordered by Wendy Williams’ guardian, which says that she tested positive for the brain disease.

TMZ says that the former talk show host’s legal team will look to submit their test along with a request for a new hearing. At that meeting, they will ask for the presiding judge to release Wendy Williams from a court-ordered guardianship. If these results do not convince the court to let her go, lawyer Joe Tacopina will demand a formal trial and plead the case.

Williams’ road to this point has been complicated and, at times, heartbreaking. Back in 2022, she was placed under a court-ordered financial guardianship after Wells Fargo froze her accounts, claiming she was an “incapacitated person.” That decision came amid mounting public concern over her health, including erratic media appearances and reports of cognitive decline. Her legal and medical affairs were placed in the hands of a guardian whose identity has largely remained private, limiting Wendy’s ability to make personal and financial decisions independently.

Around that same period, Wendy’s team announced that she had been diagnosed with both aphasia and frontotemporal dementia—conditions that affect speech and behavior. The news sparked an outpouring of concern from fans and industry peers, with many calling for her privacy to be respected as she received treatment.

If this new medical assessment holds up in court, it could mark a major turning point for the former daytime queen. Known for her fearless takes and signature “How you doin’?” catchphrase, Wendy Williams has spent the last few years largely out of the public eye. Regaining control of her life and finances would not only restore her autonomy but could also pave the way for a long-awaited comeback—on her own terms.

Media personality Wendy Williams has been on the offensive in trying to free herself from guardianship, and her latest move has been to secure the services of Joe Tacopina. Tacopina, a high-profile attorney, confirmed the news on Thursday (April 3) while appearing as a guest on the Banfield program on NewsNation.

“Yes, I am representing her, I’m her personal attorney right now. I will be entering the case one way or another, but it’s a convoluted process…the last thing they want to do is see my face in that courtroom,” Tacopina said, offering a chuckle. He first spoke about her situation while appearing on the 2 Angry Men podcast last month, revealing that she reached out to him about representing her. Tacopina was moved by the plight of Williams after seeing the Tubi documentary Saving Wendy, calling it a “true injustice,” adding that “Murderers have more freedom than Wendy.”

Tacopina has represented numerous celebrities in court, including current President Donald Trump, the late Michael Jackson, and former Major League Baseball star Alex Rodriguez. He recently represented A$AP Rocky in his trial for assault charges brought against him by former associate A$AP Relli and secured an acquittal for the rapper. The New York-based attorney has been a major figure in the Hip-Hop world, with clients such as Meek Mill, YG, and Swizz Beatz.

Wendy Williams is currently fighting to be released from a conservatorship overseen by Sabrina Morrisey, a court-appointed guardian, which was enacted in 2022. The situation was spurred by the bank Wells Fargo, which holds Williams’ accounts and called for it after questioning excessive spending from the accounts and her health condition. The former television host was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and primary progressive aphasia.

Ginalisa Monterroso, Williams’ health advocate, told People that she initially was for the guardianship to protect her finances, but was unaware of the restrictions she’d face including not being able to travel without permission or to have her own bank account. “She kind of felt like, ‘Hey, I have the court,” Monerroso said. “They’re going to sign me a money person. I’m going to be good.’ In no way did she think that our whole life was going to be taken away from her.” Williams’ supporters held a protest in front of the assisted living facility she has been staying at in Hudson Yards on Tuesday (April 1).

It appears Wendy Williams might be one step closer to gaining unsupervised release. She was taken to a hospital after dropping a note from her assisted living facility.

As per The Huffington Post Wendy Williams took matters into her own hands on Monday, March 10. According to reports she dropped a written note from her window asking the public for aid. “Help! Wendy!!” the piece of paper read. She was then spotted waving her hands to the public and reporters who were on the scene. These tactics proved successful as local police and an ambulance soon arrived at the property located in Midtown Manhattan.

According to The New York Post she was then escorted by lawmen into a vehicle which whisked her away to Lenox Hill Hospital. There medical professionals ran independent tests to examine her cognitive skills. TMZ is exclusively reporting that they have spoken to a source close to the situation and say that Wendy Williams aced the test with a perfect score. While this might be a small win for Wendy those results vary greatly from the assessment made by completed by her guardian.
In 2023 the media personality was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. Wendy Williams is set to appear on The View on Friday, Mar. 14. You can see footage of Wendy Williams being escorted to the hospital below.

Wendy Williams the popular radio show host turned TV talk show queen is trying to regain her personal and financial freedom by ending a guardianship enacted over her.

Williams has been in court-ordered guardianship since 2022 and is currently living in an assisted care facility. However, in her new petition she told the judge that she has “regained capacity” to function without a guardian, per TMZ.

The gossip news site recently released a documentary about her called, “TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy.” It is currently streaming on Tubi.
Williams who had been incapacitated in the past and was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia has signed an affidavit that she is, in fact, healthy. Her friend, TMZ founder Harvey Levin has stated that he believes Williams was misdiagnosed and has gotten healthier since becoming sober.
According to Fox4News, Levin interviewed his old friend from the street, where Williams claims she is locked in a room with no internet access. He said she is rarely allowed visitors and has only been outside twice in the past month.
“She rightly feels like a prisoner,” Levin said.
According to Levin, Williams, 60, is “back to her old self”, but her guardian refuses to release her.
Fans on social media, are reacting to the news and the documentary with outrage asking for the same support be offered Williams as was offered Britney Spears in her conservatorship battle.
The hashtag #FreeWendyWilliams is currently trending on X.
Sources have told PageSix that Williams is set to be reexamined by a medical doctor on February 18.

Wendy Williams is seeking new legal counsel. She has reportedly fired her lawyer as she continues her fight to be released from guardianship.

Page Six is reporting that the former media personality has made a change with regard to her representation. This week she formally cut ties her court appointed attorney Linda Redlisky. Sources who claim to be close to the matter tell TMZ that Wendy let Redlisky go because she failed to file the proper paperwork asking release from guardianship. Williams apparently wanted a court trial to decide whether or not she needs someone to make decisions on her behalf but Redlisky denied her request.

Earlier this month her family made it clear they are trying their best to restore order in her life. “The family of Wendy Williams wishes to address the current circumstances surrounding her guardianship and her ongoing journey toward reclaiming her self-determination,” the family said in a statement, per Daily Mail. “As we navigate this challenging time, we believe it is crucial to advocate for Wendy’s rights and autonomy.”
They would go on thank her fans for their continued support as they figure out a resolution. “We are hoping that — through the legal system — we can shed light on this situation and work toward a resolution that honors Wendy’s voice and wishes. We ask for privacy and understanding as we navigate this complex process, and we thank Wendy’s fans and supporters for their unwavering love and encouragement during this time to “#FREEWENDY.”
Earlier this month Wendy Williams called into The Breakfast Club and revealed that she is totally capable of being self sufficient and that she feels like she is trapped. “My life is f***ed up,” she explained. “I feel like I’m in prison. I’m definitely isolated. I keep the door closed, I watch TV, listen to the radio and look out the window. Sit here as my life goes by.”

A lawyer is claiming that Wendy Williams has “good and bad days” but states that her recent call to The Breakfast Club isn’t a sign she’s free from dementia.

Media personality Wendy Williams’ call-in appearance on The Breakfast Club on Thursday (Jan. 16) was a welcomed listen for all of her fans, but an attorney representing the person overseeing her estate states that it is not a sign that she is altogether well. Williams, the former daytime talk show host, is currently in an unnamed care facility. “I am not cognitively impaired,” she said on the show. “But I feel like I am in prison.” She also complained about not having access to a phone or computer at the facility during the call. Williams’ niece, Alex Finnie, also joined the interview, expressing that she and other family members want her freed from the guardianship. “I’m not asking for a whole lot,” Finnie said. “All I’m saying is just treat the woman with dignity and give her the freedoms that she deserves.”

Roberta Kaplan, who represents Sabrina E. Morrisey, the woman mandated to oversee Williams in the guardianship, released a statement after the interview. “Unfortunately, because of her diagnosis, Wendy’s condition will only get worse with time and she will require care for the rest of her life,” Kaplan said. “But as anyone who has had a family member with dementia knows, Wendy has both good days and bad days. It is truly a shame that there is so much voyeuristic attention to this right now since it only leads to the same kinds of exploitation that we saw in the so-called documentary, as alleged in our complaint.”
Court papers showed Morrisey testifying that Williams was diagnosed in 2023 with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia. The guardianship was initiated by Wells Fargo, who handled Williams’ finances, citing that it had “documented a pattern of unusual and disturbing events” leading them to seek the court order. Court documents do not fully explain the specifics of Morrisey’s powers.
Kaplan’s statement referred to the two-part documentary entitled Where Is Wendy Williams?, which aired on Lifetime last year. The documentary gave fans a look at Williams’ life since undergoing a series of public moments that evoked concern from her fans. Morrisey had attempted to block the network from airing the film but was unsuccessful. She is currently suing A&E Networks, the parent company of Lifetime.

Wendy Williams is a pioneer in the world of terrestrial radio and daytime talk shows and became infamous for her no-holds-barred approach to reporting on celebrity happenings and the like. Having stepped away from broadcasting due to reported health issues, Wendy Williams broke her silence and joined the cast of The Breakfast Club morning show to discuss her health issues, the widely reported conservatorship, Diddy’s legal woes, and more.
Wendy Williams joined The Breakfast Club by phone accompanied by her niece, journalist Alex Finnie. Williams’ former mentee, Charlamagne, opened up the chat by explaining to an audience what a conservatorship and some readers might recall singer Britney Spears was once under a similar guardianship.

Williams, sounding just as vibrant as her radio days, shared with the hosts that she is not cognitively impaired as many outlets have reported and likened the conservatorship to being in prison. Speaking from an undisclosed facility, Williams was quick-witted and humorous, highlighting that she shouldn’t be housed with individuals who are suffering from deeper mental and physical disabilities than she is.
Finnie jumped in for Williams and explained that where her aunt is being held was, “essentially a luxury prison” and confined to a small space where she isn’t allowed to interact with the outside world. That said, for all the reports of Williams’ cognitive decline, she sounded very much like the host of old and denies that she’s in as dire a place as has been widely shared in the media.
Naturally, Williams kept up with what was going on outside of the facility and had some choice words about Sean “Diddy” Combs.
“Diddy will go to prison for life, people. You don’t know the things that I know about Diddy back in the day. You know what? It’s about time, people. It is about time. Diddy done,” Williams said.
There is a GoFundMe effort for Wendy Williams aimed at her having the conservatorship lifted and retiring to Florida to be next to her family. Click here for more information.

Last month, it was reported that Wendy Williams’ dementia had left her “cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated.” Luckily for her son, she was able to make his graduation ceremony earlier this week.

According to TMZ, Wendy Williams made an extremely rare public appearance in Miami this past Thursday (Dec. 19) when her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., graduated from Florida International University. Rocking a black and silver dress while rolling around in a mobility scooter, Williams was joined by a couple of armed guards and her father, Thomas Williams Sr. While our hearts break to see Wendy Williams in such conditions, it is nice to see that she can still enjoy special moments like this with her family when she can.
Per TMZ:

There are also pictures from inside the graduation — showing WW seated to watch the culmination of her son’s college years.
It’s a rare day out for Williams … who it was revealed earlier this year suffers from dementia during a legal battle over the controversial documentary “Where Is Wendy Williams?”
She was photographed earlier this month grinning big from the back of an SUV … though her guardian recently claimed in court filings that the disease has left her “permanently incapacitated.”
Looks like she felt well enough to cheer her son on while he accepted his diploma … making for a happy family memory.
Good for her!

Sad news is coming out of Wendy Williams’ camp as it seems that the mental health and well-being of the iconic talk show host has declined significantly since we’ve last heard from her.

According to Page Six, the attorney for Wendy Williams’ guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, wrote a memo to the judge overseeing their lawsuit against A+E Networks to inform him that Williams’ battle with dementia hasn’t only gotten worse but has left her “cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated.” The revelation comes as Morrissey continues to battle the network for getting Wendy Williams to do their four-part series Where Is Wendy Williams? for which she was only paid a paltry $82,000 while the network raked in a fortune.

Morrissey states that she wasn’t aware that A+E and Williams were filming the show until several months into the process and that the network exploited Williams for their own gain as she was clearly struggling with her mental health at the time of filming. A+E Networks for their part denied any such wrong doing and tried to shift the blame on Morrissey instead.
Per Page Six:
They argued in a filing obtained by Page Six that the guardian was pursuing legal action against them to “attempt to excuse her own failure to protect” Williams and “deflect from her own decision” to allow the former host to be filmed “without checking in on her.”
Morrissey’s lawyer wrote in response, “None of the defendants ever gained the guardian’s consent for [Williams’] participation to be filmed, and the guardian did not learn of the talent agreement until March
2023, seven months after the start of filming.”
Though the show was a hit, it became obvious that Williams wasn’t in her right state of mind and was eventually diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia, which is known to affect memory loss and causes people to act erratically, behavior Williams exhibited during the filming process.
How this will end up playing out is anyone’s guess, but our prayers and well wishes go out to Wendy Williams and her family.
