Rico Nasty takes you through a day in her life and shares what you can expect from her new album, getting into Gundam, her experience going through her Saturn return, performing with Hayley Williams, what she wants with people on her team and more!
What’s your favorite moment of Rico Nasty’s day? Let us know in the comments!
Rico Nasty:There is no typical day. I’m, like, always doing something, and if I’m not doing something, then I’m doing a call, and if I’m not doing a call, I am smoking weed. Rollout life is so different from regular life. Regular life, I’m literally doing what I’m about to go do right now, which is go buy a Gundam and try to see what they have at the store. But, yeah, I’m trying to bring the world together. There’s no reason for them to be separate. So even though I have to work, I still am trying to find time for fun stuff and things that I enjoy in my real life, so that I’m not just giving my all to this music s–t.
Producer:The first song you made for this project was it “TEETHSUCKER”?
It was “TEETHSUCKER.” And I didn’t really, I didn’t really understand that I was fully working on the album when I made that song, either, I kind of just made it and I knew it belonged to something I didn’t know quite what, but I was like, “OK, this is a good song. I like this song. It makes me feel happy. And this should be something. I don’t know what yet.” I don’t know, that moment when you’re like, “Oh, you still got it in you. You still got it b—h. You still got it.” I was really like, a pat on the back type of song because I remember making a bunch of, like, moody emo a– s–t. I finally got through that song, and I was like, “Oh, she’s risen. Thank you God, please, please. I don’t want to be like, making sad music anymore.” But on this album, there are a few sad songs, so bear with me. Bear with me. I don’t care.

Diddy’s trial started on Monday, May 12th, and we’re breaking down what’s happened in the first two days of the trial, including his charges, opening statements, Cassie taking the stand and more.
What do you think of Diddy’s trial so far? Let us know in the comments.
Tetris Kelly:
All right, guys, so this is not a fun one, but the Diddy trial kicked off, and I’m, for one, in shock that they decided that the defense’s argument was gonna be, yeah, there was domestic violence, but not sex trafficking. Like what?
Judy Sanchez:
It’s a lot to take in. Like, racketeering is a very serious charge, but so is domestic violence. So to sort of brush that under the rug, and especially with Cassie knowing that she’s taking the stand pregnant, I don’t know, the optics are very intense. You know, it was, it was a lot of intense, graphic news coming from the Diddy trial this morning.
Tetris Kelly:
I mean, it’s so interesting that you phrase it that way, because I think sex trafficking, racketeering, it’s like, and there’s been all this evidence that’s been in the media, what would your argument be to defend Diddy at this point?
Stefanie Tanaka:
Yeah. I mean, I’m not sure there’s much. He’s gonna try to save his a–, I’m sure. But, you know, I don’t know how you can, I mean, your crimes are bad enough. I don’t know if there’s much. I mean, the lawyers are gonna do their jobs because they’re lawyers, but I don’t know, like, if there’s any way he could really get out of it. I mean, they’re pretty serious. All the allegations we’ve heard, the video evidence with Cassie in the hotel.

Suki Waterhouse:
You are! How are you?
Oh my God, I feel so good now that you’re here and you just complimented me. Did you get that on camera? Beautiful. Thank you so much.
You’re doing it all.
I’m trying. I’m trying. How do you feel being here at Billboard Women in Music?
I feel great. You know, it’s exciting. I feel like I haven’t been to that many events for music, like, really, this was a big deal.
Oh my gosh. It is. It’s a huge deal.
I got to see amazing people perform that I like love. And I get to present aespa, which is incredible.
Right? It’s such a women empowerment night.
It is.
Which we’re big fans of.
Not just night, every day.
I don’t need this night-
We don’t, but it’s nice to point out.
Exactly, sometimes we got to build our own table. Can you share with us your real astrological sign and how much you know about astrology and birth charts?
Okay, so I’m a Capricorn, but my parents didn’t write down what day- time I was born. And I’ve tried to get the birth certificate, you know, I’ve been to many astrologers to have them try and guess, but I don’t actually know the exact time, which I just think is a disgrace,
Right? It’s a bad mark.
They failed me.
Thanks a lot, Mom and Dad.

Heran Mamo:
Well, I’m so excited to be here with you.
Tems:
Me too.
I mean, this is the fourth time we chatted. But you know, much bigger occasion. Super happy. In person, in London, where you live.
In London, yeah.
So how long have you lived in London?
I’ve lived in London for about three years now.
And your family moved here when you were a baby, correct?
Yes. My dad still lives here. Actually, I was raised in Lagos. Still. I didn’t stay here too long when I was a baby.
Obviously Lagos is still considered home.
Oh yeah, for sure.
I remember, I think I was watching your Vogue France video when you’re getting ready for the Jacquemus show, and you’re talking about, like, your Pilates class and how, like, you have to keep changing them, because of people recognizing you and you’re like, not even booking under your real name. How do you maintain a sort of normal-ish routine?
The way I am naturally is, I wouldn’t say it’s routine-based, but I find joy in, you know, quiet and having my own time, and I just keep my life private, like my private life private and my public life public.
How has your relationship with your fame evolved over the years and making sure you’re still maintaining that peace?
At least when I first started, there’s a lot of things I wasn’t comfortable with. I’m hypersensitive to a lot of things, so everything was uncomfortable. I just love music. You know, I was always focused on my art and just putting on music.

Drew Afualo:
Team, here we are backstage at Billboard Women in Music, with the iconic, the legendary, the stunning, gorgeous, JENNIE period. How excited are you to be here at Billboard? Women in Music?
JENNIE:
So excited. This is my first time being here, yeah, and as soon as I heard I was honored with an award here, I obviously, you can see in my eyes. I’m all over the place. I’m just super happy. And today feels like a present.
Right? It is. It’s a gift to have you here. Miss JENNIE is popular. Everyone’s been like, oh my god, when’s JENNIE coming? Me too, but I’m playing it cool. You can’t tell I’m being real chill.
Professional.
Oh, thank you.
I need to know how to do this.
It’s okay. You have all the singing and dancing talent. I have the yapping talent.
Totally.
So yeah, we compliment each other that way.
Love that.
Okay, so on to some fun questions, how much do you know about astrology? Are you familiar at all like your your sign?
I know I’m a Capricorn myself.
Okay, love that.
That’s probably about it, but…
Okay, tea, so you don’t know your moon or your rising?
No.
Okay, no worries. Capricorn, we can deal with that. We can, we can do that. Love that. But I do have your big three in Billboard Hot 100 terms. They’re very fun. Would you like to hear them?
Yes.

Damiano David is releasing his debut solo album ‘FUNNY little FEARS’ this Friday, May 16th, and the Italian singer shares why he transitioned from a band to going solo, songwriting with his girlfriend Dove Cameron, working with Labrinth on “Silverlines,” going on tour and more!
Are you excited for ‘FUNNY little FEARS?’ Let us know in the comments below!
Rania Aniftos:
Hey everybody, it’s Rania Aniftos with Billboard News, and I’m so excited to be here today with Damiano David, welcome!
Damiano David:
Hello.
What an exciting time for you. I mean, you’re gearing up for your next musical era. You’ve released three singles so far: “Next Summer,” “Born With a Broken Heart” and “Silverlines.” So tell me a bit about how you’re choosing to release these singles to kind of introduce this musical era for you.
For me, it’s literally all about, like, instinct and feelings. These were the first three songs I wrote for the record. And so it’s kind of funny that they are actually the singles, but I didn’t know at the beginning, but I always felt like the songs were strong, and since the beginning, I knew they were going to be part of the record. And again, there’s not much strategy around it. It’s literally like a feeling. I like this. I released it.
I mean, I love that. That’s the way to go, because it keeps it fun for you too, and it keeps it authentic. And speaking of authentic, each of these three singles, while they are different in a lot of ways, they still sound like you, but you’re clearly exploring what was that like, getting in the studio and working out different sounds and kind of introducing Damiano to people.
That was very fun. It was a new practice for me because I was used to kind of knowing the sound that we wanted with the band…

We caught up with KATSEYE at Wango Tango and they shared their reaction to the public’s response to “GNARLY,” teasing new music coming soon, handling fame and more.
What do you think of “GNARLY”? Let us know in the comments!
Tetris Kelly:
Hanging out with KATSEYE at Wango Tango. How are you doing, ladies?
KATSEYE:
I’m good!
All right, you know what I gotta start talking about right now: “GNARLY.” I mean, you guys, I feel like you did something. You got the Internet a little bit shook right now. So how was it to put the song out and see everything that happened once it was out in the world?
It was definitely a gag for everybody. And this is like what we felt the moment that we first heard the song. So we were so happy when we saw everybody’s reactions, especially after our first performance. We just got back from Korea doing all this promotion. So we’re excited because today is our first performance here in the U.S. So we’re here to gag.
Yeah, no. And, I mean, that’s what it did. Because I love seeing people, like, watch the performance and be like, Oh, the girls that get it, clearly get it, you know what I mean? So how was it just like, get the choreography and see that that was what changed everybody’s opinion about the song.
I mean, it looks amazing.
She’s like the choreography is good. She’s like gang, gang, gang.
No, literally, like we’re shaking ass. We’re having fun. And I feel like the crowd really, like, just saw us being confident and selling it. And so we’re just super excited. And we 100% stand behind the song. We love it, and we mostly love performing it. So we’re really excited.
