Happy Monday, June 5th, and boy do we have a show for you today at Billboard News. Were you watching TV this weekend? Tetris Kelly:
Hey, Troye.

Troye Sivan:
Hi, Tetris.

Tetris Kelly:
Good to see you again, man.

Troye Sivan:
Good to see you too. What’s going on?

Tetris Kelly:
Well, I am loving this show and your character is quite a role. A lot of us pop culture aficionados wish we had and a pop star’s life.

Troye Sivan:
Like when was the last truly f—ing nasty, nasty, bad pop girl?

Tetris Kelly:
How was it to live our dream, man?

Troye Sivan:
I mean, it was really fun. I know a few creative directors, I’ve dated a few. So I know them really well. I am also fully that person. I catch myself now. Like, you know, on the press tour, for example, Lily’s just like looking unbelievable at all times, of course. And so I’m like, you know, like the gay best friend. It’s like taking a million pictures of her all the time like that, I think is just like a very natural role for me to slip into.

Hopefully they give us one last album. Who knows you never know. Since disbanding they reunited for the Super Bowl and Beychella but a full-on reunion with an album? Tetris Kelly 0:18
Happy Thursday y’all! It’s June 1, I’m Tetris Kelly and this is Billboard News. We’ve got a lot to talk about, starting with our latest cover start Jelly Roll.

Jelly Roll 0:32
First thing I want to touch on about my juvenile charges is people could have got hurt. And by the grace of God, thankfully nobody did because we were young and reckless. And I think about that all the time. I never want to minimize the nature of the seriousness of that crime. I do want to emphasize though, that I was a 15, 16-year-old child, I had yet to hit any kind of real puberty. I hadn’t hit my last growth spurt at that point, I was six inches smaller than I would end up being or seven inches in life. And just, I mean, just just in physical. So think of the mental growth. You know, they say the brain doesn’t develop until you’re 25. I was almost a decade behind that. And I was charged as an adult. years before I could buy a beer, lease an apartment, get a pack of cigarettes, I missed all of these things. But I was treated as an adult. I missed all of my high school years. I didn’t get my GED until I was in jail the third or fourth time in my 20s. So you’re like What else do you do? By the end? You’re kind of driven to the streets. You know, I feel like the justice system at that point kind of parked me in my only set path. And to this day as a 38, 39 year old man, I was just tearing down a house because the community wouldn’t let me be a part of the golf course because of my felony.

Jelly Roll Opens Up About His Journey From Prison to Top of Billboard’s Country Chart | Billboard Cover

Country star Jelly Roll opens up about his journey from his life in prison to becoming one of the most exciting and interesting rising stars in country music.

“I want to make people feel the way this makes me feel because this is like it go back my childhood really, like this is the same way that music made my mother feel, you know. And I’ve just always been hyper focused on the feeling,” he says.

“I had got released from jail, and it would it would end up being the last time I was ever in jail, which I’m super proud of. And I came here because Craig Morgan had this song called ‘Almost Home,’ and I would listen to it in my jail cell. And the song was about a homeless man that was sleeping in the snow. And they were going to wake him up. And they thought that the old man was dead and they shook him and he said, ‘Dude, I was I was, you know, I was coming around the barn, I was smelling mama’s [cobbler], I was having the best day ever before you woke me up.’ And me and my cell mates used to compare that to jail. You know, like in this horrible circumstance, but kind of mentally you know, you can always almost home. So I came home and here I am with an ankle bracelet. And here I am looking googling on the computer back then Craig Morgan concert, Grand Ole Opry. I get tickets, spend my last little bit of money or whatever I had. I go sit down, and I’m watching Craig Morgan. And he’s like, I didn’t realize I’d forgotten the structure that he would only sing three or four songs, you know? And he sang two songs, and I realized, oh, no, he’s not gonna sing it. And then he sang it and I just cried.”

Megan & Saweetie Show Off New Boos, Peso Pluma & Bizarrap Collab, More | Billboard News

Megan Thee Stallion was seen out with soccer player Romelu Lukaku amid breakup rumors with Pardi. Saweetie & YG seemingly confirm their relationship. Both Peso Pluma and Bizarrap have been sharing teasers of their upcoming collab on their socials. We followed TOMORROW X TOGETHER as they prepared for night 1 of their shows at UBS Arena. And more!

Tetris Kelly  0:00

Megan Thee Stallion and Saweetie got new boos, say what? We’re on tour with TOMORROW X TOGETHER and ENHYPEN. We run down the hottest songs on Twitter. Bizarrap gets a new collaborator and Davido teaches us some Nigerian slang

Tetris Kelly 0:16

It’s Wednesday May 31st. I’m Tetris Kelly and this is Billboard News, and before we leave this month behind let’s get into your top story. The ladies of rap are feeling the love, so who are Megan and Saweetie dating?

Tetris Kelly 0:34

Looks like Saweetie found someone that’s her type. I like what I did there. She was spotted in Cabo getting frisky with fellow rapper YG. They first fueled romance rumors back in March when she attended his birthday party. The two have collaborated twice in the past but we’re not sure when things got romantic. As for Megan It looks like she’s got a new boo too. Megan was spotted arm in arm with Belgian soccer player Romelu Lukaku at his teammate’s wedding in Italy. This came as a surprise to some fans because they assumed Megan and Pardi Fontaine were still an item. The two celebrated their two-year anniversary back in October and Pardi seemingly dedicated a poem to Meg earlier this month, but the two did unfollow each other on Insta. So the internet is taking this new wedding date as a sign. You do you ladies.

Davido Reveals His Favorite Nigerian Slang | Billboard News

Davido chatted with Billboard News and talked about some of his favorite Nigerian slang!

DAVIDO:
Yo, what’s up? It’s your boy Davido, and these are some Nigerian slang. Let’s go!

The first one is “Yawa,” that’s Y-A-W-A, which means, like, “trouble.” So, if somebody hits me up like, “Yo, yawa do,” that mean it’s like, “Oh, there’s trouble.”

Another one is “Comot,” C-O-M-O-T. Basically say like, “Come out,” but like you say it in a different way, broken English.

“Otilo.” Otilo means like, “It’s gone,” like, “It’s out of here,” like, “It’s lit.” Otilo.

Those are some Nigerian slangs. Hope you enjoyed it!

Matty Healy Addresses Ice Spice Comments, Blue Ivy Joins Beyoncé Onstage & More | Billboard News

Matty Healy made a lot of people upset after he laughed at racist, body-shaming comments about Ice Spice in a recent podcast appearance. Blue Ivy makes her mother proud as she joins her onstage during her shows in Paris and London. Morgan Wallen has snagged another week at No. 1, making it his 12th week at the top of the Billboard 200 charts and his track ‘Last Night’ also holds on to the No. 1 spot of the Hot 100. And more!

Tetris Kelly 0:00
Taylor’s rumored boo doubles down on controversial statements. Blue Ivy steals the show at Beyoncé’s weekend concert. Morgan Wallen’s reign on the charts continues, and we learned slang from around the world thanks to Labrinth and Nicole Zignago. Hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend. I’m Tetris Kelly for Billboard News. It’s Tuesday, May 30th and we’re back with some drama. Matty Healy is making headlines again. His latest words continue to rub people the wrong way. The 1975 frontman was asked about his recent racist comments on a podcast and his answer doubles down on the controversy. Matty Healy told The New Yorker that people don’t care that he mocked Asian people made fun of Ice Spice or claimed that he watched violent and racist pornography. He said, “You’re either deluded or you’re, sorry, a liar. You’re either lying that you are hurt, or you’re a bit mental for being hurt.” This comes on the heels of his rumored girlfriend Taylor Swift releasing a remix with Ice Spice and bringing her out at her concert to perform ‘Karma.’

Tetris Kelly 1:10
Swifties have voiced their concern over their fave being associated with Healy as we’re feeling he seems unconcerned. For all the latest head to Billboard.com. Now let’s move on to news everyone loves to hear: Beyoncé is killing it on tour. It was a big weekend for Beyoncé’s tour overseas as Blue Ivy took the stage, Selena Gomez and the Jenners caused a stir, and Tina gets some love. If you’re in Paris and not at Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour What were you doing? The crowd was over the moon as Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy joined her in silver and the crowds also sparkled. Kylie and Kris Jenner attended in Paris though Kylie needs to work on her ‘Heated’ lyrics a little bit. Also at that show was Megan Thee Stallion and Selena Gomez, who apparently yelled at security and people are still trying to find out why. It seems as if she was being like her friend Taylor and just saying to leave the fans alone. Dua Lipa attended the show in the UK, where Beyoncé did a tribute to the late Tina Turner of ‘River Deep Mountain High’.

Tetris Kelly 2:25
It’s time to talk about our charts. Morgan Wallen continues to make history, spending his 12th week at the top of the Billboard 200 charts with ‘One Thing At A Time,’ making it the most weeks at No. 1 for a country album in over 30 years. It surpasses the 11-week reign of Taylor Swift’s ‘Fearless’ in 2008 to 2009 but it’s not yet caught up to Billy Ray Cyrus’ ‘Some Gave All,’ which notched 17 weeks at No. 1 in 1992. Elsewhere on the chart we have two top 10 debuts as Dave Matthews Band earns its fourteenth top 10 with ‘Walk Around the Moon’ at No. 5. And Ghost logs its fourth top 10 as ‘Phantomime’ bows at No. 7. Over on the Hot 100 Morgan Wallen holds onto the top spot with ‘Last Night’ while Bad Bunny sees a top 10 debut, landing at No. 8 with his latest ‘Where She Goes.’

Jelly Roll 3:22
What’s up y’all! Billboard is coming to Nashville to do a question and answer with me at the country summit and you can get your tickets now! Get your tickets, come see me. I’ll be talking that.

Tetris Kelly 3:33
Now we move on to the educational portion of the show. We got together with Labrinth and he taught us some of his favorite slang.

Labrinth 3:40
Hey guys, my name is Labrinth. And this is my favorite British slang

Labrinth 3:49
The first one is “headtop.” If you come into my studio and you hear a banging beat, I’m going to be like, “Yo, what do you think of the song” and you go “headtop.” And that means like, “It’s so crazy” that it’s taking your head off. We got a “mad thing.” And this one makes me laugh because my missus, she grew up in Denmark, and she thought we were actually saying mud, but Patois Jamaicans would say “mad” as “mud” is a “mud thing cus…” and so when you say “mud”, it means that “it’s a crazy thing,” “this thing is wild.” So we say “poppin’ off.” So let’s say Labrinth after Coachella, people are like “This guy’s poppin’ off,” that means that your “success is growing” or people are starting to kind of see who you are.

Tetris Kelly 4:40
From the UK to South America, Nicole Zignago broke down her favorite slang from Peru.

Nicole Zignago 4:45
Hola, yo soy Nicole Zignago y estas son mis frases favoritas de Perú. Mi frase favorita peruana creo que tendría que ser “Qué Palta”, que significa como “uy”, como “That sucks”. Como “¡Qué palta!”. Al final, palta es avocado in Peru so, I don’t know, that’s random, but I really like it. Y otra podría ser “Qué Chévere”. Chévere lo utilizamos mucho. I really like that one. “Huevón”, “Huevona”. We say that a lot. It’s like “Hey, dude. What’s up, dude?” Yeah.

Tetris Kelly 5:19
Wooh I got a lot of slang to use. That’s it for today make sure to come back tomorrow to see what songs are trending on Twitter and we break down the songs making a comeback thanks to TikTok. I’m Tetris Kelly and this is Billboard News.
