She’s on my label, and so they called me and were like, would you ever work with Mimi Webb? And I was like, I love Mimi Webb. The biggest Mimi Webb fan there is, is my husband, Daryl [Sabara]. So he was like, “Please work with her.” And then we met, we fell in love. And then I wrote this chorus the night before because I wanted Daryl to be able to read my mind.

I’m so happy. No more nerves. Tequila hit and the speech was good. I feel good.

Stunning and gorgeous. And when they walked out, I said, ‘Period, period, period,’ as they were walking past. ‘Yes, thank you. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Work, it, work, it.’ Love that. I think you’re stunning and amazing. So actually, first I want to ask you, how does it feel celebrating other women in music tonight? 

It feels amazing. You know, I’m very happy to be here, because my mom has always been behind the scenes, and she was always my momager, she was like, helping me since I was very little with like my dress and stuff,

The first awards ceremony that they honor me and my mom, and she deserves it more than I do.

It’s just an honor. Honestly, we are so, so, so psyched to be here and then in a room full of amazing women.

Amazing, and last fun question, do you guys have any advice for any women pursuing music?

Follow your heart, and believe in yourself, because you’re right. You’re right, you’re right.

I am here with the iconic Tanner Adell here at Billboard Women in Music. I do have some pretty fun questions for you. Are you excited?

OK so first, I’m gonna pick a flower for you. Hold on. Oh, there’s flowers glued in there. OK, so I’m gonna ask you: Who do you give flowers to for getting you where you are? 

Oh, man, I think I would have to give flowers to my mother. She has always been supportive of my dreams. And as time has gone by, I’ve gone by, I feel like she’s always been someone, I mean, she comes on tour with me. So I love having my mom around. She inspires me all day.

Gorge. Love that. And who do you give flowers to for inspiring your music?

Oh wow, inspiring my music. You know, I think Etta James is someone who I respect a lot. I love jazz music, and I just feel like she was so stunning and really set a precedence for nice, little salty little vocals. And I’m gonna have to give those flowers to Etta James,

Beautiful. And the last kind of fun one, I’m gonna give you another flower you can hold in the other hand. This flower is gonna go to you for a very fun fact that I have about you, which is that you rode a horse for the first time when you were 6 months old. 

I think I was even younger than that!

Obviously, me and Zara besties we’re in love, like we saw each other in the line. Obviously I was digging around with you, and then I almost missed you. That’s a good liner. I was like, oh, sorry. I was kidding with Zara. But I do have some fun questions for you.

First, I’m gonna give you some flowers. Do you have a preference of which one you want? 

I think I’m going with the green. Is that a flower? 

I think so.

SB19 Break Down ‘Simula at Wakas’ EP, Tour & More | Music You Should Know | Billboard News

SB19 released their newest EP ‘Simula at Wakas,’ and the group is getting ready to head on tour. They sit down and share the creative process behind the “DAM” music video, Filipino karaoke traditions, what they wanted to achieve with this EP, what they’re most excited for going on tour and more!

SB19:

So ‘Simula at Wakas’ basically translates to English beginning and ending. So when we were first conceptualizing our EP, we have this question in our minds, how are we going to be able to exceed what we’ve done before? How are we going to exceed our best or our maximum potential? So when we started creating the EP, or giving a title to the EP, we’ve thought of the question, what if this is the ending? What if this is going to be the last? What are we going to do, and what if this is the beginning? We’ve started our goals. We’ve set our goals and our genes. So how are we going to start it? That’s why we entitled the EP ‘Simula at Wakas’ because we didn’t want to close the trilogy of EPs doing, not doing what we wanted to do. In terms of producing the song “DAM,” we had a really big or crazy idea in terms of creating the music. We wanted to make the music more cinematic than before, so we’ve incorporated instruments that make it feel really big and epic. And in terms of doing the vocals and adding layers to it, we really ensure that everyone will be able to highlight their, you know, utmost ability, like for example, Stell has the highest vocal range amongst the group. So I really tried to, you know, utilize his vocal range to the point that it go dizzy when he’s saying that part, those kind of things. And for Ken, he has the deepest voice, so we try to utilize that as well.
