In 10 years, ‘Back to Reggaeton’ is returning to the field of work, to tours. The last tour we did was with Daddy Yankee, the Insuperables tour.

Before that, we did the tour Meet the Orphans. We did the King of Kings tour too, but I’m super excited. Super excited I think this opportunity takes 25 years of music around the world.

Now, 25 years is a lot of time to fit into one night. How did you choose the tracklist? The setlist. Does it change every day?

Don Omar
The tour is going to demand two full hours of music, in order to go on this trip through time. From the first song the world knew and made a success in my career…

Which is…I’m going to guess! “Dale Don Dale.”

Don Omar
Well done. “Dale Don Dale” is one of my first songs and it’s a song I can’t stop playing in any show.

Lil Nas X is back like “J CHRIST” if you didn’t know, but after his “Montero” video caused a similar backlash a few years back, he’s saying this isn’t the same thing.

I thought me clearly not being on the side of the devil in that video was the — I don’t know what it was like there was an understanding there that I’m not like trying to diss Christianity.

Everybody will be waiting to see where “J CHRIST” lands on the Billboard Hot 100, but at least now when we hear the song we know exactly where Lil Nas X stands.

Two: I know how to draw and paint real good, like, I’m real crafty, like I like to do home stuff around the house.

So excited for you. How have you been keeping this a secret? What’s been the hardest part of that?

Kali Uchis:
I had to do some shows and I was on a Times list, I had to do a red carpet. That was really hard.

Lyndsey Havens:
And then when the time does come, what are you most excited for about being a mom?

Kali Uchis:
I don’t know. There’s so much to be excited for, honestly. So yeah, it’s hard to say just one thing.

Lyndsey Havens:
You won’t know until it happens.

Kali Uchis:
Yeah, exactly.

Lyndsey Havens:
Your fourth album, Orquídeas, is now out. Congratulations. It’s all about the theme of the orchids that inspired this. How did you sort of land on that? And why was that flower like the proper embodiment?

Kali Uchis:
Yeah, I feel like the flower for me, it always symbolizes timelessness, femininity, luxury, has an eerie mystical quality about it as well. And it’s also the national flower of Colombia. So for me it all tied in, and then I didn’t find out that I was pregnant until later in my rollout, but actually it’s also the flower of fertility. So it actually all came together perfectly.

It stood out to me so much, I think, that I was just like, ‘hmm I actually like this.’ At the time, I wouldn’t really listen to regional music. It was more of like my dad’s Mariachi music and like the old-school stuff. A couple of years later, Natanael Cano drops, you know, ‘Corridos Tumbados.’ He’s definitely like a pioneer for this new genre that you call salsa reino and like corridos tumbados, so many people got inspiration from Nate, that he really took a big step and just changed the whole corridos feel, like a lot of people just adapted to that quickly.

Billboard Explains: The Rise of ITZY

ITZY is no stranger to the Billboard charts. The K-pop girl group first charted back in 2019, and since then, have racked up multiple entries across different charts. And with the release of their new album BORN TO BE, it’s just the beginning.

This is Billboard Explains: The Rise of ITZY.

Since ITZY made their mark on the music scene, the girl group has appeared on a bunch of different Billboard charts, including the Billboard 200, thanks to albums like CRAZY IN LOVE, the first album, which peaked at No. 11 and featured the track “LOCO” and Checkmate mini-album, which peaked at No. 8. That same EP also debuted at No. 1 on the World Albums Chart, taking the top spot for a week in July 2022.

Other notable chart highlights include four songs in the Global 200 including “In the Morning,” which peaked at No. 34. 10 songs on the World Digital Song Sales Chart, including “DALLA DALLA” and five songs on the Global 200 Excl. US Chart, including “Not Shy,” which reached No. 70 in September 2020.

It’s clear that ITZY knows how to make a Billboard chart hit, and we can’t wait to see where BORN TO BE takes them next.

Ivan Cornejo On How TikTok Kickstarted His Career, Who He Wants To Work With & More | Billboard Cover

Rising regional Mexican star Ivan Cornejo talks about how he started singing, kickstarting his career on TikTok, how Natanael Cano inspired him to make regional Mexican music, which artists and producers he wants to work with, the future of regional Mexican music and more!

Ivan Cornejo:
It’s a good feeling you know being an influence. And I remember what I used to feel like wanting to be a musician it’s a good feeling when I hear kids telling me that they picked up the guitar because of it.

Ivan Cornejo:
I started playing guitar around seven years old, it was kind of like my way of making like 20 bucks for the weekend or something my dad would tell me to like learn like Joan Sebastian songs and just like oldies songs, he’d be like, and I’ll give you five bucks for each song. And at seven years old five bucks is a lot of money. So I was just collecting my my little royalties back then. Around the time that T3R Elemento was dropping music. “Rafa Caro,” I remember like I heard that.

Ivan Cornejo:
And it like, stood out to me so much I think that I was just like hmm I actually like this. At the time, I wouldn’t really listen to regional music. It was more of like my dad’s Mariachi music and like the old school stuff. A couple of years later, Natanael Cano drops, you know, corridos tumbados. He’s definitely like a pioneer for this new genre that you call salsa reino and like corridos tumbados, so many people got inspiration from that, that he really took a big step and just changed the whole corridor feel like a lot of people just adapted to that quickly. I started with TikTok and Instagram, you know, just posting my videos. After I started getting recognition with the covers, seeing a lot of comments supporting me, as you know, motivates you to just write your own music and I started writing my own songs, I dropped my first song, I got signed to a label, and I dropped two albums with that label. Now I’m just working on my third album, it was a big change. For me, I love those tech talks. And then, you know, there’s like labels reaching out. It was like a mini dream country. You know, it was what I’ve always wanted.

This is Billboard News. I’m Tetris Kelly, back on Thursday, January 11th and we continue our Future of Genre cover stars with Laufey.

Laufey:
I knew I wanted the album to be called ‘Bewitched’ before I started writing any of the songs. I knew I wanted it to be a little bit more mature and I wanted it to be more confident. I think my first album was a little bit aloof, it’s very, you know, hopeless romantic. This second one, although it has elements of that, you know, I’ve experienced more with love. I’ve matured more. I think my writing has gotten better. Some of the references I put into my music, the classical references, especially, are so obvious that sometimes I get DMs or messages from my fans saying like, “Wait a minute, I was listening to Bach today and I found the beginning of ‘Everything I Know About Love.’” And I’m like, “Yep, you got it.” And I love that. I love spreading it in. I mean, I need to do a deep dive into the classical references in ‘Bewitched’ but there are so many. It feels very, very validating, especially in the category that I am in, you know, it’s all my heroes. It’s all legends, so getting to be a voice in that category is just incredible and especially with this album that I wrote at home, it’s just, it’s crazy. Taylor Swift was one of the first songwriters that I really, like songwriter artists, that I really resonated with. Every song while you’re listening, you can visually see what’s happening, and it turns into a little movie. And I think that’s something, though she has changed genres so many times, she’s always kept true to that. It’s always that Taylor Swift storytelling, that songwriting, that is the common denominator. That’s one thing I really want to do in my lifetime as a musician, and it’s inspired me greatly.

Lesley Gore’s 1963 ‘Misty’ Reaches No. 1 on TikTok Billboard Top 50 | Billboard News

Lesley Gore’s 1963 track “Misty” reaches No. 1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart as Sophie Ellis Baxter’s “Murder on the Dancefloor” lands in the top 10.

Tetris Kelly:
We’ve got a new leader on top of the chart, plus rap and a 2001 sleeper hit break into the top 10.

Lesley Gore’s “Misty” hit jumps from No. 3 to the top spot on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 for the chart posting Jan. 11. The 1963 hit becomes the oldest chart-topper thanks to various trends using the track. Flo Milli’s “Never Lose Me” bows to No. 7 thanks to a ton of trends including fashion and makeup. Finally, Sophie Ellis Baxter’s 2001 hit “Murder on the Dancefloor” lands at No. 10. This is in large part thanks to a trend born out of the song used in the film Saltburn.
