Trey Songz ft. Tyga “Star Status,” MC Lyte & Queen Latifah “King King” & More | Daily Visuals 7.5.24

HipHopWired Featured Video

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything new from the one time prince of R&B, Trey Songz and while he’s been MIA, the man’s still got the voice to make women swoon and returns to remind everyone of that fact.

Linking up with Tyga for the visuals to “Star Status,” Trey and Tyga throw themselves a private pool party where they’re joined by a gang of bikini-clad women ready to get wet and wild. Unfortunately the pool wasn’t filled with water for some reason. Looked hot out there too. SMH.

Back in New York some Hip-Hop icons from yester-decade link up in 2024 and in the visuals to “King King” MC Lyte and Queen Latifah show love and pay homage to their male counterparts while stock footage of some of our most prominent leaders, athletes and entertainers grace the screen. They still got it, b.

Check out the rest of today’s drops including work from Eric Bellinger, Lil Skies, and more.

Carl Lamarre:
It’s been quite some time.

Hey, hey!

Just a little bit, everybody was doing their thing. Little vacays.

Trevor Anderson:
Yeah. It’s that time of year.

Carl Lamarre:
Yeah, BET.

Benson Boone’s Beautiful Chart Success | Billboard Explains

Benson Boone dazzled on American Idol, but he dropped out to pursue his solo career in music. Since then, he’s been in the Hot 100 with “Beautiful Things,” “In The Stars,” and “Ghost Town.” His album, ‘Fireworks & Rollerblades,’ debuted at No.6 in the Billboard 200, but how did he climb to the top so fast? Keep watching to learn more!

Tetris Kelly:

Benson Boone is living the dream. The pop-rock artist has been a staple on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Beautiful Things” since its debut, and recently opened for Taylor Swift for one of the London stops of The Eras Tour. But who is Benson Boone? How did he get his start? And how did he become a Hot 100 success? This is Billboard Explains: Benson Boone’s Beautiful Chart Success. Hailing from Monroe, Washington, Benson didn’t discover his voice and love of music until high school. His best friend asked him to play the piano in their school’s battle of the bands competition after the lead singer dropped out. Benson filled in and that decision undoubtedly altered the course of his life. He then went on to audition for American Idol, where he received a standing ovation from judges and Katy Perry gave him the ultimate compliment. Benson ultimately decided to drop out of the competition to pursue music on his own. He went on to sign to Imagine Dragons’ frontman Dan Reynolds’ record label Night Street Records. Then, Benson made his Billboard chart debut at No. 33 on the Emerging Artists chart in October 2021. He earned his first Billboard Hot 100 hit with “Ghost Town,” peaking at No. 100. Next came “In the Stars,” his second Hot 100 hit. The song reached No. 82 and broke into the top 50 on the Global 200.

Lucky Daye Talks ‘Algorithm’ Creative Process, Working With Bruno Mars & Teddy Swims | Billboard News

After songwriting for prolific artists including Beyoncé and Victoria Monét, Lucky Daye took the plunge to transition to being a solo artist in 2019. Since then, he’s released four albums, with his most recent being Algorithm. Lucky Daye shares his creative process behind his newest release, working with Teddy Swims and Bruno Mars, his upcoming tour and more!

Lucky Daye:
I’m not gonna play a losing game. I’m gonna play that I’m gonna win at. And I win at making music. Hey, this is Lucky Daye, and this is Billboard News.

Gail Mitchell:
Welcome, Lucky Daye.

Lucky Daye:
Thank you for having me.

Gail Mitchell:
So I was telling someone here earlier on the team, I was going out to a dinner last night, on the radio Stevie Wonder’s KJLH “That’s You” was playing. And I’m like, oh my god, because I’m supposed to talk to him tomorrow. On the way home, “Hurricane” was playing on the same station. So …

Lucky Daye:
So Stevie like …

Gail Mitchell:
Stevie likes you.

Lucky Daye:
Come on. I just invited Stevie Wonder to my show. Like, I told my MD he said he knew somebody that knew him.

Gail Mitchell:
OK.

Lucky Daye:
So I told him, “When I’m in L.A., just know Stevie Wonder’s gonna be at my show.”

Gail Mitchell:
Great. And congratulations, because, at least this week, “That’s You” is up to No. 3 on R&B Airplay …

Lucky Daye:
Man, that’s good to know.

Gail Mitchell:
So congrats.

Lucky Daye:
It’s good to know, it’s good to see.

Gail Mitchell:
What was your creative mindset heading into working on Algorithm?

Lucky Daye:
My mindset was, I kind of wanted to talk to myself as if God was talking to me. I think the only voice I really hit when I’m not trying to make a voice, is God.

Will Shaboozey Hit No. 1 on the Hot 100? Quavo & Lana Release “Tough” & More | Billboard News

Darius Rucker thinks Morgan Wallen should be forgiven, Quavo & Lana Del Rey get steamy in the release of their newest collaboration and music video, “Tough,” and more!

Tetris Kelly:

Darius Rucker thinks it’s time to forgive Morgan. Shaboozey aims for the top spot on the Hot 100 and Quavo & Lana get “Tough” and sexy. Here’s three things to know in country today.

Darius Rucker told Rolling Stone’s Music Now podcast that he thinks Morgan Wallen should be forgiven for being caught using the N word multiple times back in 2021.

Darius Rucker:

Do I think Morgan’s become a better person since that? I know Morgan Wallen since all that happened? You know, Morgan tried to really better himself and become a better person and see the world in a much better, better way.

Tetris Kelly:

Darius pointed out how Morgan didn’t get nominated for Entertainer of the Year at the CMA’s or the ACM’s, but he has broken chart records on the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 and currently holds the top spot on the Hot 100, so listeners seem to have forgiven him. Speaking of the Hot 100 Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” sits at No. 2. But could he surpass Morgan and Post Malone next week? Thanks to a huge performance where he brought out J-KWON at the BET Awards and an increase in radio play, he’s got better odds. We’ll find out for sure on Monday. Also entering the country space is Quavo. His new song with Lana Del Rey, “Tough,” not only brings the backroad vibes, they get pretty sensual in the video, too. Which country track are you bumping? Let us know in the comments.

For his new black-and-white visuals to “No. 1 Headband,” (Afro Samurai reference) Lupe takes to the street in a drop top Porsche with a tall attractive young woman by his side to cruise the streets before pulling over to spit his rhymes because rapping and driving at the same time can at times be dangerous. Just sayin.’

On the R&B tip, SiR and Anderson .Paak prove to be a formidable duo and for their clip to “Poetry In Motion” the two artists hit up the studio to lay down their melodies and ultimately hit the Vegas strip for a little late night partying. All work and no play, right?
