Black Thought manages to still dazzle as a lyricist and had done so with expert ease since the 1990s, so it is fitting that his latest missive salutes the culture that raised him. As part of BET’s yearlong celebration of the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop, Black Thought shares a potent tribute titled “Love Letter To Hip Hop.”
Black Thought, known to most as the frontman for The Roots, used the tribute to highlight the culture’s beginnings in the inner city of New York and the purpose of unity that sparked its inception. Further, Thought uses the moment to highlight the likes of mogul Sylvia Robinson and other women who paved the way such as Salt-N-Pepa, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Sha Rock, and Roxanne Shante.

Some of Thought’s contemporaries are mentioned in the poetic tribute such as Common, Jay-Z, and A Tribe Called Quest, and also expertly shouts out regions outside of the usual East Coast locales such as Atlanta, Los Angeles, Houston, and more.
Benny Boom directed the visually stunning piece that captures Black Thought’s crystal clear delivery and gives it a necessary punch since the ode is delivered acapella.

The family of Malcolm X announced on Tuesday (Feb. 21) intentions to file a $100 million lawsuit against the FBI, CIA, and NYPD for conspiring to kill the great civil rights leader. Filed under the guidance of civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump, the lawsuit was announced on the very day that Malcolm X was assassinated in 1965.
ABC7 reports that members of the family of Malcolm X gathered at the Shabazz Educational Center, which was formerly the Audobon Ballroom where the leader was shot and killed. Flanked by the family, Crump stated their intentions on gaining justice for their fallen loved one.
“Many things that will be put forth in our lawsuit that speaks to this factual evidence,” Crump said at a press conference held at the center. “We believe that now it could be substantiated based on the recent exonerations of those who were wrongfully convicted.
Muhammad Aziz and Khalil Islam, two of the trio convicted in the death of Malcolm X, were exonerated of their crimes in 2021 after years of imprisonment. It was later revealed by former Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance that an investigation headed by Vance and the attorneys for Aziz and Islam uncovered facts that the FBI and NYPD withheld evidence that would have cleared their clients of any wrongdoing.

50 Cent is comfortably in his mogul role as he continues to dominate as an executive producer in the entertainment world via his portfolio of street-savvy dramas. After a well-received interview with MSNBC host Ari Melber last week, 50 Cent got into a humorous war of words with a former Kremlin official over which guest had the most views on The Beat.
The artist born Curtis Jackson didn’t take the first shot as most might expect. This time, the honor went to Andrei Vladimirovich Kozyrev, a former Kremlin official, and Russian politician. Kozyrev was a guest on The Beat last year just as the Ukraine conflict erupted and became the most-watched The Beat segment with 5.4 million views.

As of now, 50 Cent holds second place in the viewership race at 4.4. million from a 2018 appearance on The Beat, prompting Kozyrev to show off a bit in a response to a tweet made by Melber on Feb. 17 highlighting the top four most-watched interviews.
Fif, not to be outdone, replied in his usual hilarious fashion.
In response, Kozyrev let Fif know that his son is a fan of his.
Along with the many feathers in his cap already, could 50 Cent be preparing to enter the high-stakes world of foreign affairs? Stay tuned.

Boosie Badazz lives his life by a certain code, sometimes to his detriment, but he isn’t afraid to stand ten toes down in his beliefs. The Louisiana rapper just struck down a joint album between him and T.I. due to his Atlanta cohort using a dead cousin to duck a gun charge.
Sitting down with VladTV, Boosie Badazz minced no words about his feelings on T.I. pinning a gun charge on his deceased family member. According to Boosie, the act was akin to snitching or being a rat in his book.
“With the T.I. situation, if he did that, you’re a f*cking rat too,” Boosie is seen in a clip from his interview with VladTV. “I don’t spare no motherf*ckin’ body. Because if you doing anything wrong, if you doing anything criminal-wise, and you cooperate with law enforcement, to get you out of trouble, that means you’re a rat.”
It appears that Boosie isn’t completely certain about whether or not T.I. did pin a gun on his cousin. In fact, Boosie says in the clip he thinks that T.I. was just sharing the tall tale to get views for his podcast series. Boosie goes on to display disappointment in Tip’s admission, saying that the timing of it couldn’t have been worse as they were planning to drop the album.
As result, Boosie is no longer interested in releasing the project. As we shared earlier this week, T.I. is set to release his final solo album, Kill The King, at a later date.
Check out Boosie Badazz sharing why he’s moving on from working with T.I. below.

T.I., the self-proclaimed “King Of The South,” earned that honor in the minds of many of his fans and peers alike. The crown carries weight and it appears that Tip is ready to relinquish the throne after announcing a final solo album titled Kill The King.
T.I. spoke exclusively with TMZ Hip Hop regarding his decision to no longer release solo projects and instead lean into his many other creative endeavors, which include his burgeoning stand-up comedy career among other pursuits.
More from TMZ Hip Hop:
TMZ Hip Hop chopped it up with T.I. this week and, for now, he’s adamant “Kill the King” will be his last solo album.
The ATL rap icon explains he adopted that regal label after hearing Mystikal refer to himself as “Prince of the South” on the 2001 album “Tarantula.” Tip says he spotted a void for the throne and claimed it.
With more free time, Tip will work with a Black-owned cannabis brand and is prepping for the 20th anniversary of his classic album, Trap Muzik, later this summer. The wide-ranging chat revealed some other tidbits and surprises coming down the pipeline as well.
Check out TMZ Hip Hop‘s talk with T.I. regarding the sunset of his solo recording career in the clip below.

The Rev. Al Sharpton led a protest in Florida on Wednesday (Feb. 15) aimed at criticizing the state’s racist erasure of Black history from its educational system, led by the efforts of Gov. Ron DeSantis. As noted during a speech delivered by Sharpton, DeSantis ordered the removal of a high school Black history course, which sparked concerns among several Black leaders nationwide.
The Miami Herald published a pair of reports regarding the march, centering on Rev. Al Sharpton and his efforts to bring attention to Gov. DeSantis’ decision to have the course removed and hopefully staving off a national movement among conservative elected officials who wish to do away with the looming specter of Black history subjects many on that side incorrectly view as negative in nature.
From the Miami Herald:
“Our children need to know the whole story. Not to not only know how bad you were, but to know how strong they are,” Sharpton told the crowd, adding, “If you would study history, governor, you would have known to mess with us and education always ends in your defeat.”
At the root of the protest was DeSantis striking down an Advanced Placement Black studies course aimed at high schoolers and the reason for the removal of the course was that the state believed it wouldn’t add “educational value” among other points.
DeSantis joins a growing list of GOP representatives who have an irrational fear of Critical Race Theory, using it as some manner of dog whistle among the base to stoke fears of some massive “woke” agenda sweeping the nation. When challenged, those against this so-called agenda can never fully explain what they are fighting against and it simply comes across as “don’t let the Blacks learn too much or else.”
We’ll share some videos of the protest led by Rev. Al Sharpton below. A scan of his Twitter feed goes even more into detail regarding this latest effort.

For a minute there it seemed like Vado was going to be the unofficial fifth member of The Diplomats and though it didn’t work out like we thought it would, the Harlem representative kept on grinding and hasn’t looked back.
Coming through with some new visuals to “So Kate,” Vado gets into the Valentine’s Day spirit and praises the woman in his life, and kicks it with an exotic young lady in his bachelor pad with dim lights and some exclusive sticky-icky to enhance the mood they got going. Nothing says romance like some good ol’ Mary Jane.
Keeping with the Valentine’s Day vibe, Reuben Vincente taps one of the best MCs in the game, Rapsody to hop in his clip to “February 13th” where the two artists struggle with the emotions that come with the ghosts of their exes past and learn a thing or two about themselves in the process.
Check out the rest of today’s drops including work from Kash Doll, That Mexican OT, and more.

Big Gipp feels a way about the recent GOAT rappers list. So much so that he thinks 2Pac would have landed Beyoncé if he were alive.
As spotted on AllHipHop.com the Goodie Mob member recently conducted an interview with Art Of Dialogue. In it he took serious umbrage with Billboard Magazine’s and Vibe Magazine’s “Top 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time” list. Their rankings had some very interesting surprises which naturally caused a stir online. The “Dirty South” MC expressed his frustration with Jay-Z taking the top slot and championed that 2Pac was more deserving of the honors.
“The only reason why you inching Jay past 2Pac is because he got God damn Beyoncé,” Gipp reasoned. “You take Beyoncé away then sh*t, bar for bar, yeah, he might rap better than ‘Pac. But ‘Pac came with the heart. That’s different, that’s just different. You can never beat the heart, bro. Some people can be technical, just like the difference between Jordan and LeBron.”
And he went on to further explain his position and also said Shakur would have bagged Queen B if he were still with us.
“If ‘Pac was here, who you think the girl would have been with? Hold up … you still can’t act. You can’t do no movies you can’t do what ‘Pac was doing” he said. “C’mon, how can you be better than ‘Pac? … that boy was a triple threat. He did groups that was successful, solo albums that was successful and movies that was successful, hands down partner. If he had lived he would have smoked everything walking.”
You can see Big Gipp discuss 2Pac in more detail below.
