New Mini-Doc Goes Behind the Scenes at Justice’s 2024 Coachella Performance: Watch

Seventeen years before Justice brought a boundary-smashing stage setup to the Outdoor Stage at Coachella 2024, they were just two young producers from France wondering if their work would ever translate into a real career in live music.

For the duo — Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé — the answer became a definitive oui after their 2007 debut performance at Coachella, which was also their first ever live performance.

Now, the two are looking back on their four Coachella performances — which happened at the fest in 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2024 — in new mini-documentary produced by the festival. The eight-minute visual, titled …And Justice for All: Coachella Edition, is comprised of archival footage and new interviews with Justice, their team and a few of the many people who helped put the show together at Coachella 2024 this past April.

“I remember after we played our first set we felt so relieved,” de Rosnay says of the duo’s 2007 set in the doc, “because we had spent the four previous years thinking, ‘Maybe we are just meant to make remixes and not even albums,’ and then here we were in the desert thinking, ‘Well, maybe we are actually a real band.’”

The doc puts a special focus on duo’s 2024 performance on Coachella’s Outdoor Stage. Justice and their creative team spent six months working with seven computer scientists to make the show, which they’ve toured the world with over the last six months. The doc features an interview with the group’s longtime technical director Manu Mouton.

The documentary was directed by photographer and filmmaker Connor Brashier, who’s worked on projects with artists including Shawn Mendes, Niall Horan and Kygo. The film was produced by Goldenvoice’s Ike Adler, Mikhail Mehra and David Prince as part of a new initiative at Coachella focused on creating original content.

“As this piece became to come together, I quickly realized I was making this for my younger, nerdy self, who dug for hours and hours trying to find out more about the people and processes behind the iconic Justice shows both past and present,” Brashier tells Billboard. “I hope someone out there is as giddy as I was to see a few of these monumental Coachella performances in HD and meet a small portion of the magician-like talents who played a part in putting them all on.”

He often incorporates a Hot Ones segment with Evans on his Tonight Show, and recalled the moment that Selena Gomez took on the challenge — and it didn’t go so well after trying the infamous Da Bomb hot sauce. “I remember this. This is the one that killed Selena Gomez. You know we almost killed Selena Gomez?” the late night talk show host said after being reunited with Da Bomb on First We Feast’s YouTube channel on Thursday (Oct. 31).

“We almost killed an American treasure, Selena Gomez,” he recalled of the 2019 Tonight Show moment. “She left and ran out, and I went and knocked on her dressing room door. She was throwing up in her sink and I go ‘Selena,’ and she goes, ‘Get the f– out’ with a devil voice. I never seen her like that, spit was dripping out of her mouth and I go, ‘I’m so sorry.’ We didn’t talk to each other for another three years.”

Thankfully, Gomez and Fallon have mended their friendship, and the “Single Soon” singer was most recently on The Tonight Show in September alongside her Only Murders in the Building co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short.

It will be a nice change of pace of Charli. Though she’s served as the musical guest twice before, this will mark the singer’s first time serving as the evening’s host. But that certainly hasn’t stopped the show from referencing Charli, especially in the Brat era. Cast member Bowen Yang dressed in full Charli drag for the season premiere, performing in a sketch in which his version of the pop star hosted her Talk Talk Show.

Even Charli herself was impressed by the sketch. Speaking to Howard Stern, the singer said she thought Yang did “a great job” performing as her. “I think SNL is iconic … we had an inkling it was coming and so we were very excited about it,” she said at the time. “I love Bowen … I was very impressed with the hair texture, actually. I thought it was a really good wig. It was good, it was cool.”

The news of Charli’s upcoming performance comes just after the star wrapped up her co-headlining Sweat Tour with Troye Sivan. In a recent interview with Billboard, the singer’s creative team revealed the difficulties and triumphs of making the headline-crashing shows possible. “Turning an arena into a club was the No. 1 challenge, and when the arena was literally shaking, I was like, ‘OK, success,’” creative director Imogene Strauss said.

Watch Timothée Chalamet Sing ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’ in New Bob Dylan Biopic Teaser

In the nearly two-minute long clip, Chalamet is heard singing the politically driven 1965 hit over an old-school film vignette featuring scenes from the upcoming film. Additionally, Chalamet recreates portions of the “Subterranean Homesick Blues” music video, in which he holds up cue cards with lyrics on them.

Earlier this year, fans first spotted Chalamet filming as Dylan in New York. Director James Mangold previously confirmed that the actor would do his own singing for the flick, which hits theaters this December. “It’s such an amazing time in American culture,” the director noted at the time. “The story of a young, 19-year-old Bob Dylan coming to New York with, like, $2 in his pocket and becoming a worldwide sensation within three years — first being embraced into the family of folk music in New York and then, of course, kind of outrunning them at a certain point as his star rises so beyond belief.”  To prepare, the Wonka star says he sifted through 12 hours’ worth of unreleased Dylan songs, sent to him by the musician’s longtime manager and A Complete Unknown producer Jeff Rosen.

Also starring Boyd Holbrook, Dan Fogler, Norbert Leo Butz and Scoot McNairy, the biographical drama was inspired by Elijah Wald’s 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric. Mangold revealed last year that the “Blowin’ in the Wind” artist personally gave feedback on the script.

Cynthia Erivo Explains Reaction to Fan Edits of ‘Wicked’ Poster: ‘A Human Moment of Wanting to Protect Little Elphaba’

Now that she’s had a few weeks to think it over, Cynthia Erivo says she kind of wishes she’d reached out to a few friends before posting her heated reaction to some viral fan edits of the poster for Wicked. The singer/actress made it very clear earlier this month that she was not cool with the way fans tried to alter the poster for the movie musical co-starring Ariana Grande to make it look more like the original promo shot for the 2003 Broadway musical.

“This is the wildest, most offensive thing I have seen,” said Erivo at the time of the edits that covered her eyes and half her face to make the poster look more like the Broadway original. According to People, Erivo addressed her heated reaction on the red carpet at Monday night’s 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards, where she described why she’s “really protective” of her take on the witch Elphaba.

Trending on Billboard

“I’m passionate about it and I know the fans are passionate about it and I think for me it was just like a human moment of wanting to protect little Elphaba, and it was like a human moment,” she told the magazine. “I probably should have called my friends, but it’s fine.”

The images that set Erivo off were attempts by fans to re-imagine the poster for the Broadway musical, which was an illustration of Elpheba (aka the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda (the Good Witch played by Grande in the film) in which Elpheba’s eyes and face were partially obscured. “The original poster is an ILLUSTRATION. I am a real life human being, who chose to look right down the barrel of the camera to you, the viewer,” Erivo wrote on Oct. 16. “…Because, without words we communicate with our eyes.”

“Our poster is an homage not an imitation, to edit my face and hide my eyes is to erase me,” Erivo continued in her original post. “And that is just deeply hurtful.”

The first part of the upcoming two-part take on Wicked will hit theaters on Nov. 22, with Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Bowen Yang and Ethan Slater rounding out the cast.

Here’s the First Trailer for French Montana’s ‘For Khadija’ Documentary: Watch

French Montana‘s story is an “Unforgettable” one. Now, it’s getting the documentary treatment.

The French Montana Story: For Khadija is headed to Paramount+ on Tuesday, Nov. 19, and Billboard has the exclusive first look at the trailer for the new feature.

“I’m a real immigrant, fresh off the boat. No access to nothing to become this dream I always dreamed about,” the three-time Grammy-nominated rapper says in the trailer. “They sell you the dream, they don’t show you the nightmare. The power of music and art … the story for a lot of immigrants out there is sacrifice — to better themselves, to better their family.”

Featuring appearances from Drake, Fat Joe, Jim Jones, Max B, Rick Ross, Harry Fraud, Funkmaster Flex, CokeBoy Zack and Chinx, The French Montana Story surveys the rise of French Montana, a Moroccan-born rapper with billions of streams to his name. From the moment his father abandoned his family — leaving his mother to raise three young sons in the Bronx on her own — to his own unique immigrant journey that took him through the streets of New York to the Billboard charts, French Montana’s tenacity, verve and grit are on full display in his new documentary.

“This is the best project I’ve ever worked on in my life,” Montana said in a press release. “It’s the first blueprint of an immigrant’s music dream, proving that anything is possible and it’s not about the awards, it’s about what we learn from the losses and sacrifices.”

Additional executive producers include Drake and Sean “Diddy” Combs. In 2023, the feature-length documentary had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.

The new documentary isn’t Montana’s first major release in 2024. In February, he released his 23rd mixtape, Mac & Cheese 5, which reached No. 14 on the Billboard 200 and housed collaborations with countless hip-hop heavyweights, including Meek Mill, Westside Gunn, 41, JID, Lil Durk, Lil Baby, Lil Wayne and Ye (the artist formerly known as Kanye West).

French Montana has landed eight projects on the Billboard 200, including 2013’s Excuse My French (No. 4) and 2017’s Jungle Rules (No. 3). On the Billboard Hot 100, he has scored 18 career entries, including the top 10 hits “Unforgettable” (No. 3, with Swae Lee) and “Loyal” (No. 9, with Chris Brown & Lil Wayne).
