The opening theme song for each of the 10 episodes, “El César del Box,” is performed by Banda MS de Sergio Lizárraga and was released Wednesday (Aug. 28) across digital platforms.
“We have a very good relationship with the champion and the people in his office,” Lizárraga, the group’s leader and producer of the song, told Billboard Español. “When the project was put together, he didn’t hesitate to call us and ask us for the song, which for us is a great honor.”
Trending on Billboard
“When he heard the song was already finished, he loved it. Very nice things came from there,” he added. “We sang it to him live and he was moved to tears.”
Released under Lizárraga’s label, Lizos Music, and charged with their usual Sinaloan banda sound, “El César del Box” tells in broad strokes the life of the pugilist, in first person. “Mis hijos los traigo en la mente/ Bajo el ring los golpes son más fuertes/ Toquéqué el cielo, ya conocí el suelo/ Y aún sigo en el top/ Yo soy Julio Chávez/ Más bien/ Soy el César del boxeo,” goes part of the lyrics. That translates to, “I have my children in my mind/ Under the ring the blows are stronger/ I touched the sky, I already knew the ground/ And I am still on top/ I am Julio Chávez/ Rather, I am the Caesar of boxing.
Chávez’s life has been full of emotional moments, with highs and lows that include drug problems. For this reason, said Lizárraga, writing about his life was a challenge for composer Omar Robles, who is responsible for Banda MS hits such as the romantic “El Color de Tus Ojos.”
“They gave us the freedom to talk about his life. The only request was that we focus on the positive things and the achievements of the champion,” said Lizárraga.
For the music video, Banda MS invited Chávez to Mazatlán, where the star was “always in good spirits and willing to work for the 16 hours” of filming. The clip shows the fighter, accompanied by Banda MS, simulating his triumphant entrance into the ring.
At 62 years old, JC Chávez, as he is also known, can boast of having made history in the super featherweight, lightweight and super lightweight divisions, becoming the pride of an entire country.
“Personally I consider myself a fan of boxing and of course of Julio César Chávez’s career,” said Lizárraga, noting that the sport has given Mexicans many joys, including recently at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where Mazatlán’s Marco Verde won a silver medal.
He also recalled with emotion Chávez’s historic fight against American Meldrick Taylor on March 17, 1990: “It was defined in the last round by a knockout when it was felt that it was already lost. And then came that blow that made our champion greater.”

Nikki Glaser is set to host the 82nd annual Golden Globes, which is set to air on Sunday, Jan. 5, (8-11 p.m. live ET/5-8 p.m. live PT) on CBS.
Glaser is the first woman to serve as solo host of the Globes in recent years. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were co-hosts four times (2013-15, 2021). Actress Sandra Oh co-hosted with comedian Andy Samberg in 2019.
Glaser, 40, is nominated for a Primetime Emmy for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded) as executive producer and performer on the HBO special Someday You’ll Die. The award will be presented on night one of the Creative Arts Emmys on Sept. 7.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Golden Globes,” Glaser said in a statement. “It’s one of my favorite nights of television and now I get a front row seat (actually, I think I have to host from the stage). The Golden Globes is not only a huge night for TV and film, but also for comedy. It’s one of the few times that show business not only allows, but encourages itself to be lovingly mocked (at least I hope so). (God I hope so). It’s an exciting, yet challenging gig because it’s live, unpredictable, and in front of Hollywood’s biggest stars (who also might be getting wasted while seated next to their recent exes).”

Glaser continued, “Some of my favorite jokes of all time have come from past Golden Globes opening monologues when Tina, Amy, or Ricky [Gervais] have said exactly what we all didn’t know we desperately needed to hear. I just hope to continue in that time honored tradition (that might also get me canceled). This is truly a dream job.”
“Nikki Glaser brings a fresh and unmatched candor to her comedy and to the Golden Globes,” Jay Penske, chairman and CEO of Dick Clark Productions and Penske Media Corporation, said in a statement. “Her unapologetic style made her an obvious and compelling choice as host for this year’s event. We’re hopeful this could be the first of many Golden Globes that Nikki will surprise and delight our CBS audience, as well as our audiences around the globe.”
“Nikki Glaser is a comedic powerhouse whose daring and unfiltered humor is the perfect match for the Golden Globes,” said Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes. “She is sure to bring a unique energy and spontaneity to the show that will keep the audience entertained all night.”
The Golden Globes, the first major award show of the season, is often referred to as “Hollywood’s Party of the Year.” It’s the largest awards show to celebrate the best of both film and television. Multi-Emmy Award-winning producing duo Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner of White Cherry Entertainment will return as executive producing showrunners for the 82nd Golden Globes. Dick Clark Productions will plan, host and produce the annual Golden Globes.
CBS’ broadcast of the 81st annual Golden Globes on Sunday, Jan. 7, hosted by comedian Jo Koy, averaged 10 million viewers (Nielsen Live+7-Day national ratings), up nearly +50% from last year, its largest audience since 2020. The telecast was also the third-largest livestreamed CBS special event on Paramount+ ever in terms of AMA (average minute audience) and reach.
The deadline for motion picture and television submissions for the 2025 Golden Globes is Monday, Nov. 4. Nominations are set to be announced on Monday, Dec. 9.
In addition to airing live on CBS, the show will stream on Paramount+ in the U.S. (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the special airs).
Penske Media Eldridge — a joint venture between Billboard’s parent company Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge — owns Dick Clark Productions, the producer of the Golden Globe Awards.

From the start, Dee Dee brought an exciting energy to the stage as she wowed the crowd with her vocal brilliance. Halfway through the song, she kicked off her shoes, letting the moment take over as she poured her heart into the performance. The judges couldn’t help but take notice.

“You knocked your shoes off. You knocked my shoes off,” Howie Mandel said, nodding to Dee Dee’s spontaneous decision to perform barefoot. “You made the song your own, and you were amazing.”
Simon Cowell, never one to hold back his opinion, was hugely impressed by the powerhouse performance, saying, “This is what it’s all about—someone who isn’t a full-time singer seizes the moment and shows the world who they are. Dee Dee, I think you’ve got a real shot at winning this competition.”
Sofia Vergara, clearly impressed, added, “This was your lane, and you took control of it. This performance topped your audition—you’re a star tonight.”
But it was Heidi Klum who sealed the deal. “Dee Dee, your voice has such a rich tone, and you look stunning tonight. But I felt like something was missing—like a sparkly belt, a sparkly ring, something gold,” Klum said, just before she hit the Golden Buzzer, sending the singer straight to the finals amid a shower of golden confetti.
“My stomach was talking to me, and you were the best tonight—you’re amazing!”
As the confetti fell, Dee Dee stood in disbelief, thanking the crowd and the judges. “Oh my God, thank you so much, America. I love you.”
“Lose Control,” the song Dee Dee performed, has been a major hit for Teddy Swims. The track debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023 and climbed to No. 1 in March this year. It would go on to stay on the chart for a whopping 54 weeks.
The competition may be tough, but with this performance and the Golden Buzzer, Dee Dee Simon has positioned herself as a serious contender for the AGT 2024 title.

She opened up about the new gig for the first time this week on SiriusXM’s Music Row Happy Hour in Las Vegas. “I feel like I’ve been so blessed to obviously be so rooted in country music, but I’ve been able to be a part of many other genres or music as well,” she shared of her musical experiences. “I mean, I’ve got a song with Papa Roach right now. It’s a lot of fun.”
Underwood continued, “I like to think that I am versatile and, hopefully, when I listen to people come and audition, I can have any lens I need to put on in terms of what music I’m thinking.”

Ultimately, as a judge, she hopes to be “honest and constructive, but still kind,” before adding, “I think that’s the whole point, because people are coming in and it’s dreams. You’re part of somebody’s story from that moment on.”
Underwood was the winner of American Idol‘s fourth season in 2005 and has gone on to release nine studio albums, win entertainer of the year three times at the Academy of Country Music Awards, and take home eight Grammys. In Billboard‘s 50 Best American Idol Alumni of All Time list, Underwood was ranked at No. 2, behind only season one champ Kelly Clarkson.
“Carrie Underwood is the first American Idol alum ever to join the judging panel. Her global superstar status as the most successful Idol winner to date makes her a perfect fit for the show,” said Megan Wolflick, Idol showrunner and executive producer in a statement at the time of announcement in July. “She embodies the true spirit of Idol as she herself is the definition of the Cinderella story. Our future hopefuls will have the chance to receive advice from someone who has walked in their exact footsteps every step of the way. Carrie has always been a strong supporter of Idol, and I’m thrilled for her to be reunited with our Idol Family.”
Perry, who had spent seven seasons as a judge on the show alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan since its move from original home Fox to ABC in 2018, revealed her exit from American Idol earlier this year. “I think this will probably be my last show, my last season for Idol,” she said on Jimmy Kimmel Live in February. “I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat.”
