Selena Gomez’s ‘Two Weird Uncles’ Steve Martin & Martin Short Congratulate Her on Her Engagement

Selena Gomez has wedding bells on the horizon, and her Only Murders in the Building co-stars are ready to watch her walk down the aisle.

After the “Rare” singer announced her engagement to music producer Benny Blanco, Steve Martin and Martin Short took to Instagram to congratulate the happy couple. “Congratulations to Benny and Selena, from her two weird uncles,” the comedic duo wrote alongside a photo of themselves with Gomez.

Gomez shared the happy news on Wednesday night (Dec. 11) via an Instagram carousel featuring her stunning marquise diamond engagement ring, alongside the caption, “forever begins now..”

Blanco responded in the comments, “Hey wait… that’s my wife.”

Gomez first confirmed that she and Blanco were dating in December 2023, about six months into their romance. In a reply to fans on Instagram, she wrote that he “is my absolute everything in my heart” and that she is at her “happiest” in the relationship. The singer and actress soon made their relationship fully Instagram official by giving a spot on her main feed to photos with Blanco, including one in which he hugs her among friends, and one in which she leans back to kiss him.

Gomez and Blanco first collaborated musically on the 2019 track “I Can’t Get Enough” alongside Tainy and J Balvin. They teamed up again for Gomez’s 2023 single “Single Soon,” their musical partnership evolving into a deep personal connection.

‘Vanderpump Rules’ Star James Kennedy Arrested for Misdemeanor Domestic Violence

Vanderpump Rules star James Kennedy has been arrested for misdemeanor domestic violence, the Burbank Police Department confirms to Billboard. TMZ was first to report the news.

According to law enforcement, police were called to a home around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday (Dec. 10) in response to an argument between a man and a woman. “The investigation determined it was a domestic incident,” which led to the arrest of the Bravo star (whose full legal name is James Kennedy Georgiou), the Burbank PD told Billboard.

Burbank police added that Kennedy, who has also parlayed his TV fame into a career as a successful DJ, was booked for misdemeanor domestic violence. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the reality star has posted $20,000 bail. “Formal charges are pending review by the Burbank City Attorney’s office,” Burbank’s law enforcement told Billboard.

Billboard has reached out to Kennedy’s rep for comment.

The Bravolebity, who is known for his big personality and viral quips on the Emmy-winning Vanderpump Rules, is the son of model and actress Jacqueline Georgiou and music producer Andros Georgiou. The elder Georgiou previously worked with late Wham! singer George Michael, who was also Kennedy’s godfather, as discussed on the popular Bravo show. The reality program also followed the DJ’s struggle with alcohol and his sobriety journey, as well as his relationship with his girlfriend Ally Lewber. (Burbank PD did not identify the woman in its statement; Billboard has reached out to Lewber for comment.)

Bravo announced in late November that Vanderpump Rules — which Kennedy joined in season two — would be returning in 2025 for its 12th season with a whole new cast.

Snoop Dogg Planning to Blast Into Space For Director Luc Besson’s Upcoming Sci-Fi Movie

Snoop Dogg is headed into space for a starring role in an upcoming sci-fi movie from director Luc Besson (The Fifth Element). The rapper will not only top-line The Last Man, but according to Variety, he will also co-produce the post-apocalyptic tale whose plot is being kept quiet for now.

The magazine reported that The Last Man is believed to be inspired by Planet of the Apes and have a connection to Snoop’s 2009 track “Last Man Standing.” Besson’s eclectic, four-decade-plus filmography has included a number of science fiction films, among them 1997’s The Fifth Element with Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich, the trippy Lucy with Scarlett Johansson in 2014 and the big-budget Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets in 2017, which featured Clive Owen, Cara Delevingne, Rihanna and Ethan Hawke.

Besson is also writing the script for the upcoming film, which Variety speculated would be in the same wheelhouse as The Fifth Element, mixing sci-fi with comedy and action. The project will be a reunion for the director and rapper, who worked together in 2006 on the live action/animated fantasy movie Arthur and the Invisibles, in which The Voice coach starred as Koolamassai leader Max alongside an all-star cast that also included Madonna, Robert DeNiro, David Bowie, Freddie Highmore, Mia Farrow and Chazz Palminteri.

“Ever since I’ve seen The Professional, I’ve always wanted [Luc] to direct a whole movie for me. Now we finally get the opportunity for him to write and direct me in a Luc Besson movie,” Snoop said.

Besson returned the admiration, adding, “I’ve been a big fan of Snoop Dogg’s music ever since ‘Who Am I.’ We first met 20 years ago, and we’ve always wanted to work together again. We just needed the right project that would excite us both — and this is it, with Snoop in the lead role. I can’t wait to get started!”

Snoop’s Death Row Pictures is co-producing the movie along with Besson and wife Virginie Besson-Silla for EuropaCorp, with filming slated to begin next year.

The rapper’s acting resume is nearly as long as his rapping sheet, dating back to early appearances in Half Baked and Caught Up in the mid-1990s, as well as co-starring roles in a variety of dramas, comedies and genre films, including Baby Boy, Training Day, Bones, The Wash, Starsky & Hutch and Dolemite Is My Name, among many others.

In the meantime, Snoop is gearing up to release his Missionary album on Friday (Dec. 13), which represents his first full-length LP made in collaboration with mentor Dr. Dre since Snoop’s 1993 debut, Doggystyle.

‘Wicked’ & ‘Conclave’ Lead 2025 Critics Choice Awards Nominations: Full List

Wicked and Conclave tied for the most nominations in this year’s Critics Choice Association Awards – 11 each. Dune: Part Two and Emilia Perez were closed behind with 10 nods each.

Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are nominated for best actress and best supporting actress, respectively. The film is nominated for best picture and best acting ensemble.

The film is already the second-highest grossing film based on a Broadway musical (just behind Mamma Mia!). The soundtrack album has so far reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

Selena Gomez failed to receive a supporting actress nod for her work in Emilia Pérez, though “Mi Camino,” which she performs in that film, was nominated for best original song. The film is nominated for best picture and best acting ensemble.

The Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown is nominated for best picture. In addition, star Timothée Chalamet is nominated for best actor, while Edward Norton is nominated for best supporting actor for his portrayal of Pete Seeger.

The six nominees for best original score were exactly the same as those nominated for Golden Globe Awards on Monday: Volker Bertelmann for Conclave; Daniel Blumberg for The Brutalist; Kris Bowers for The Wild Robot; Clément Ducol and Camille for Emilia Pérez; Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for Challengers; and Hans Zimmer for Dune: Part Two.

There was just one difference in the nominations for best original song between the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes. “Harper and Will Go West” from Will & Harper by Sean Douglas and Kristen Wiig is nominated for Critics Choice, whereas the Globes nominated “Forbidden Road” from Better Man (music and Lyrics by Robbie Williams, Freddy Wexler, Sacha Skarbek).

The other five nominees are the same for both shows: “Beautiful That Way” from The Last Showgirl, “Compress/Repress” from Challengers, “El Mal” from Emilia Pérez, “Kiss the Sky” from The Wild Robot and “Mi Camino” from Emilia Pérez.

“This year brought us an incredible wealth of storytelling and performances, leading to indescribably close races for nominations,” Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin said in a statement. “We are honored to be able to celebrate our landmark 30th year of the Critics Choice Awards with this talented group of nominees and are thrilled to bring viewers our best show yet. Knowing how close the balloting for nominations was, we anticipate an exciting evening of high drama on January 12.”

The 2025 Critics Choice Awards take place on Sunday, Jan. 12, beginning at 7 p.m. ET and will air this year on E! Chelsea Handler is set to host.

On Wednesday night’s (Dec. 11) episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, ROSÉ will make her solo in-studio performance debut, playing a mash-up of “APT.” and “Toxic Till the End,” both from her just-released Rosie album. In photos from the performance exclusive to Billboard, the BLACKPINK singer can be seen singing behind Fallon’s iconic late-night desk, with her feet comfortably kicked up.

One of the songs she’ll perform tonight, Rosie lead single “APT.” (a duet with Bruno Mars), has so far peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 — surpassing even the highest-charting hit of her globally famous K-pop girl group BLACKPINK.

BLACKPINK and ROSÉ previously performed on The Tonight Show, but both during the show’s at-home COVID edition when acts weren’t appearing in-person at the New York studio. BLACKPINK performed “How You Like That” in June 2020 and ROSÉ shared a pre-taped performance of “On the Ground” in March 2021.

Disney’s ‘Tangled’ Reimagined as Live-Action Film Led by ‘Greatest Showman’ Director Michael Gracey

Disney Animation’s Tangled is about to get a live-action adaptation, Deadline first reported on Wednesday (Dec. 11).

The screenplay is generally expected to follow the one Disney fans already know and love, Deadline says, though plot specifics remain confidential at press time.

Casting details also haven’t been shared, but The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey is in negotiations to lead the feature film. Kristin Burr (Cruella, Freakier Friday) is set to produce alongside Lucy Kitada (The Baby-Sitters Club), and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge, Thor: Love and Thunder, Someone Great) is behind the script.

Tangled tells the tale of Rapunzel, the Brothers Grimm character that in modern times is best known as the magical, golden-haired Disney princess that’s been beloved to the family audience since 2010, when Disney’s studio released its animated version of the story. The animated Rapunzel starred Mandy Moore, who voiced the spunky and sweet heroine and recorded her songs — including Grammy-winning duet “I See the Light” with Zachary Levi, and story opener “When Will My Life Begin?” — for the film’s original soundtrack.

“I See the Light,” with music written by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater, was honored as best song written for visual media at the Grammy Awards in 2012; the ballad was also nominated for best original song at the Academy Awards in 2011, an award that ultimately went to Toy Story 3‘s “We Belong Together,” penned by Randy Newman.

The animated Tangled film surpassed $590 million at the worldwide box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The new version will join an upcoming theatrical slate of family-friendly remakes from Disney that includes live-action releases Mufasa: The Lion King (in theaters Dec. 20), Snow White (March 21) and Lily & Stitch (May 23).

Adam Sandler Says Eminem Has an ‘Insane’ Cameo in ‘Happy Gilmore 2’

Eminem is going from the stage to the golf course!

During an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show last week, Adam Sandler revealed that the rapper makes a cameo in the upcoming, long-awaited Happy Gilmore 2 film. “Eminem was cool, he came by, he was great,” Sandler raved of Em, adding, “I’ve known Eminem for a long time, he’s a great guy and he came in and was funny as hell,” he said. “I think we just hung out a day with Eminem and he just shot and shot and he was insane. [He] said a million things we can use and a million that we’re glad we have him on tape.” 

He did not, however, reveal what role Eminem would play in the sequel of the 1996 golf-themed comedy, which Sandler co-wrote, produced and starred in. The film follows wannabe hockey player and titular character Happy Gilmore, as he takes up golfing in an attempt to make money to save his grandmother’s home from foreclosure.

In addition to Eminem and Sandler, Dan Patrick, Margaret Qualley and Christopher McDonald will all be appearing in the forthcoming sequel, which was announced in May by Netflix.

Back in August, Sandler also discussed another superstar cameo: Travis Kelce. During a Tonight Show appearance, the comedian shared of the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, “He’s a very nice guy. Watch Timothée Chalamet’s Bob Dylan Harmonize With Edward Norton’s Pete Seeger in ‘A Complete Unknown’ Scene

The Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown is two weeks away from release, and Billboard is sharing an exclusive clip from the project.

In the video, Timothée Chalamet portrays the icon alongside Edward Norton’s Pete Seeger. The duo sit down together at a gathering with their guitars to perform Dylan’s 1964 hit “When the Ship Comes In,” harmonizing at the chorus: “And the sea will split/ And the ships will hit/ And the sands on the shoreline will be shaking.”

Earlier this month, Dylan himself took to X (formerly Twitter) to give the film his stamp of approval. “There’s a movie about me opening soon called A Complete Unknown (what a title!). Timothee Chalamet is starring in the lead role,” he wrote. “Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me. The film’s taken from Elijah Wald’s Dylan Goes Electric – a book that came out in 2015. It’s a fantastic retelling of events from the early ‘60s that led up to the fiasco at Newport. After you’ve seen the movie read the book.”

Also starring Boyd Holbrook, Dan Fogler, Norbert Leo Butz and Scoot McNairy, the biographical drama was inspired by Elijah Wald’s 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric. Director James Mangold revealed that the “Blowin’ in the Wind” artist personally gave feedback on the script.

Chalamet has said he’s been honing his portrayal of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer for years, working with a movement coach, taking a “spirit-gathering” road trip to the Minnesota native’s early stomping grounds, as well as working with a harmonica coach for five years to nail the singer’s signature style.

Fans just got their first taste of what a Cowboy Carter Christmas will be like, with Beyoncé dropping a new teaser for her upcoming NFL Halftime Show performance Wednesday (Dec. 11).

In the 30-second clip, Bey — dressed in an all-white outfit of cowboy hat, furry jacket and boots — steps into a snowy landscape and hangs an ornament on a locationally appropriate cactus in lieu of a Christmas tree. As the lights strung around it magically turn on, the “Break My Soul” artist holds up finger guns, blows invisible smoke off the barrel and winks at the camera.

“HALFTIME SHOW,” reads a title card at the end of the video, which was shared to Bey’s YouTube channel. “THIS CHRISTMAS HOUSTON, TX.”

The teaser comes exactly two weeks ahead of the 32-time Grammy winner’s highly anticipated hometown performance at NRG Stadium, before and after which the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens will play some football on Christmas Day. The spectacle will mark Bey’s first time performing since the release of her Billboard 200-topping album Cowboy Carter.

The NFL first announced that Bey would be performing mid-November, sharing a similar teaser that showed the Destiny’s Child alum standing atop a rose-covered vintage car and effortlessly catching a football that someone throws at her from offscreen. Cowboy Carter opening track “Ameriican Requiem” plays over the video, possibly hinting at what her setlist will entail.

The Christmas Day doubleheader will begin with the Kansas City Chiefs facing off against the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 p.m. ET, followed by the Texans vs. Ravens game at 4:30 p.m. ET. Both games — and Bey’s halftime performance — will stream live on Netflix, with regional broadcasts and mobile access via NFL+.

The Lion King star’s return to an NFL halftime stage comes over a decade after her 2013 Super Bowl performance, where she reunited with Destiny’s Child. In 2016, she joined Coldplay and Bruno Mars mid-game.
