Dee Dee Simon made a lasting impression during the Quarterfinals of America’s Got Talent 2024 with her high-energy performance of “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims.
The Oakland nurse, who has been balancing her day job with her passion for music, delivered a standout performance on Aug. 27 that not only had the judges on their feet but also earned her a direct ticket to the finals thanks to Heidi Klum’s Golden Buzzer.

From the start, Dee Dee brought an exciting energy to the stage as she wowed the crowd with her vocal brilliance. Halfway through the song, she kicked off her shoes, letting the moment take over as she poured her heart into the performance. The judges couldn’t help but take notice.

“You knocked your shoes off. You knocked my shoes off,” Howie Mandel said, nodding to Dee Dee’s spontaneous decision to perform barefoot. “You made the song your own, and you were amazing.”

Simon Cowell, never one to hold back his opinion, was hugely impressed by the powerhouse performance, saying, “This is what it’s all about—someone who isn’t a full-time singer seizes the moment and shows the world who they are. Dee Dee, I think you’ve got a real shot at winning this competition.”

Sofia Vergara, clearly impressed, added, “This was your lane, and you took control of it. This performance topped your audition—you’re a star tonight.”

But it was Heidi Klum who sealed the deal. “Dee Dee, your voice has such a rich tone, and you look stunning tonight. But I felt like something was missing—like a sparkly belt, a sparkly ring, something gold,” Klum said, just before she hit the Golden Buzzer, sending the singer straight to the finals amid a shower of golden confetti.

“My stomach was talking to me, and you were the best tonight—you’re amazing!”

As the confetti fell, Dee Dee stood in disbelief, thanking the crowd and the judges. “Oh my God, thank you so much, America. I love you.”

“Lose Control,” the song Dee Dee performed, has been a major hit for Teddy Swims. The track debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023 and climbed to No. 1 in March this year. It would go on to stay on the chart for a whopping 54 weeks.

The competition may be tough, but with this performance and the Golden Buzzer, Dee Dee Simon has positioned herself as a serious contender for the AGT 2024 title.

She opened up about the new gig for the first time this week on SiriusXM’s Music Row Happy Hour in Las Vegas. “I feel like I’ve been so blessed to obviously be so rooted in country music, but I’ve been able to be a part of many other genres or music as well,” she shared of her musical experiences. “I mean, I’ve got a song with Papa Roach right now. It’s a lot of fun.”

Underwood continued, “I like to think that I am versatile and, hopefully, when I listen to people come and audition, I can have any lens I need to put on in terms of what music I’m thinking.”

Ultimately, as a judge, she hopes to be “honest and constructive, but still kind,” before adding, “I think that’s the whole point, because people are coming in and it’s dreams. You’re part of somebody’s story from that moment on.”

Underwood was the winner of American Idol‘s fourth season in 2005 and has gone on to release nine studio albums, win entertainer of the year three times at the Academy of Country Music Awards, and take home eight Grammys. In Billboard‘s 50 Best American Idol Alumni of All Time list, Underwood was ranked at No. 2, behind only season one champ Kelly Clarkson.

“Carrie Underwood is the first American Idol alum ever to join the judging panel. Her global superstar status as the most successful Idol winner to date makes her a perfect fit for the show,” said Megan Wolflick, Idol showrunner and executive producer in a statement at the time of announcement in July. “She embodies the true spirit of Idol as she herself is the definition of the Cinderella story. Our future hopefuls will have the chance to receive advice from someone who has walked in their exact footsteps every step of the way. Carrie has always been a strong supporter of Idol, and I’m thrilled for her to be reunited with our Idol Family.”

Perry, who had spent seven seasons as a judge on the show alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan since its move from original home Fox to ABC in 2018, revealed her exit from American Idol earlier this year. “I think this will probably be my last show, my last season for Idol,” she said on Jimmy Kimmel Live in February. “I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat.”

Selena Gomez says that Wizards of Waverly Place is just as magical as it was when she left. In a recent sit-down interview with People, the 32-year-old singer-songwriter opened up about the process of bringing her breakout Disney Channel series back to life via a reboot slated to arrive this fall. “It was like a […]

Dubbed the “Voice of New York,” Angie Martinez has been a towering figure in New York City hip-hop radio for decades, being inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2020. She also became a New York Times best-selling author when her 2016 memoir made the list. And now she can add director to her accomplished résumé: The hip-hop journalist will make her directorial debut with a documentary about the important, yet often overlooked, DJ Clark Kent.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Angie had this to say: “DJ Clark Kent is a rare gem whose influence is seen in nearly every era of Hip-Hop’s history books. With our 50-year-old culture susceptible to outside perspective and agenda, it’s important that we spotlight the heroes who push the art form with purity and authenticity. I am honored to help share Clark’s many truths with the world.”

Born Rodolfo Franklin, the Panamanian-American DJ and producer was instrumental in the careers of Jay-Z, Foxy Brown and Shyne, among others. He’s produced tracks for the likes of Jay, Biggie and Mariah Carey, most notably “Brooklyn’s Finest,” “Sky’s the Limit” and “Loverboy (Remix),” respectively. Kent is also a well-respected figure within the sneaker community, collaborating with brands like Nike and Adidas, and owning upward of 3,000 pairs of sneakers.

“I’m honored to have Angie Martinez directing. Her entire career has been rooted in telling stories in a beautiful & meaningful way. Angie is a true icon of Hip Hop and we are very lucky to have her guiding this project,” Kent told the outlet.

The documentary will be called God’s Favorite DJ: The Story of DJ Clark Kent and the synopsis reads as follows: “[This doc] tells the story of a man who spent the last four decades uninterruptedly as an architect, teacher, and unsung hero within Hip-Hop. The world class DJ, producer and sneaker aficionado takes us back to watershed moments when he single-handedly altered history; like when he convinced Shawn Carter to believe in the future of Jay-Z or taught the Notorious B.I.G. to perform like a star and coached Lil Kim through her first studio session. Directed by award-winning media personality and creator of the IRL (In Real Life) Podcast Angie Martinez, the documentary illuminates how much Clark’s DNA appears in several corners of present pop culture — from the stars for whom he composes music (Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Rick Ross) to his 2024 sneaker collaboration with Nike that now resells for over $10K.”

Produced in partnership with Green Leaf Productions and Mark Sparks Productions, the documentary will feature friends and peers like Jay-Z, DJ Khaled, DJ D-Nice and more.
