In case you haven’t heard, Super Bowl winning Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is headed to the big screen. Adam Sandler confirmed last week that Kelce will have an unspecified role in the upcoming sequel to the comedian’s iconic 1996 sports comedy Happy Gilmore.
And on Wednesday (August 28), Kelce and his other brother, New Heights podcast co-star and retired Super Bowl champ Jason Kelce, teased the footballer’s cameo by recreating one of the iconic scenes from the golf goof. In the clip, Travis, 34, is on a golf course getting ready to haul off on a tee shot in run-up Happy fashion. “Hey Happy,” Travis says as Jason responds off screen with a quote from Sandler’s title character, “You too good for your home?”

Travis then takes a quick step-up to address the ball with maximum effort as the shot cuts to a scene from the original movie of the ball zooming through the air for way too long over a neighborhood before doinking an unsuspecting homeowner on the head as he shakes his fist, shouting, “you boys are gonna pay for that!”

After getting properly beaned and stumbling about, Jason — whose head is superimposed on the moving company worker played by actor Will Sasso in the original movie — shouts, “You hit that guy!” Then, with Travis’ head plopped onto Happy’s movie body, he shrugs and says, “He shouldn’ta been standing there.”

Last week during a visit to the Tonight Show, Sandler confirmed that Kelce would have some role in the anticipated sequel. “Travis has… he mentioned it, so we have a nice something for Travis,” Sandler said of the gig that Kelce has publicly dreamed out. “He’s gonna come by. He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud and he’s so funny.”

Kelce seemed to manifest the cameo in May on New Heights — which just scored a major nine-figure new distribution deal — when he said he was a “huge fan of the Sandman” and would do “anything” to get a role in the film.

Speaking to the brothers on New Heights this week, Sandler opened up about how the role came together. “The whole thing was to get to hang out with Travis!… We were talking about you playing my son while we were writing it literally like, six months ago,” Sandler said. “We were like, ‘Imagine if Travis was my first baby, how funny that would be.’” Travis also said he’s been working on the patented way Gilmore addresses the ball, promising that he thinks he’s “got the swing down” since going out to practice after seeing Sandler on the Tonight Show.

“The scene you’re doing is with so many great golfers,” Sandler teased. “It’s gonna be amazing. You’re gonna be funny as hell.”

Ariana Grande is one femininomenon Chappell Roan loves. While answering questions on a recent livestream, the 26-year-old star had nothing but kind things to say about the 31-year-old vocalist, from praising Eternal Sunshine to hyping up the upcoming Wicked films.
The topic of Grande first came up when one fan left a comment about Wicked, the first installment of which arrives in November starring the R.E.M. Beauty founder as Glinda opposite Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba. “Oh my god, I’m so excited,” Roan raved of the film adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name, which was based off of Gregory Maguire’s novel.

“I’m a really big Ari — I’m an Arianator,” the “Good Luck Babe!” artist added. “I love her album.”

Roan’s comments come nearly two months after Grande sent love to the Missouri native on Instagram Stories, sharing a Wicked-related meme featuring Roan’s 2024 Gov Ball look, which involved painting her entire body green to channel the Statue of Liberty. “I really ♡ @chappellroan,” the Victorious alum wrote at the time.

On Aug. 19, Grande’s friend and Wicked costar Bowen Yang conversed with Roan for Interview magazine, revealing that he was the one to introduce the “Yes, And?” singer to the “Hot to Go!” artist’s work. “I remember drinking a glass of wine with Ariana Grande after we wrapped and being like, ‘You should get on Chappell Roan,” the Saturday Night Live star recalled. “‘She’s f–king awesome. Her live shows are incredible.’”

“I appreciate that,” Roan replied at the time. “I’ve been like, ‘Oh, my god. People are legitimately excited about this album.’”

Roan is currently climbing her way up the Billboard charts, with her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess recently reaching a new peak at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 a full 11 months after it was released in September 2023. She has seven entries on the Billboard Hot 100 dated Aug. 31, including “Pink Pony Club,” “Red Wine Supernova,” “Casual,” “Femininomenon” and “My Kink Is Karma.”

As her star has rapidly risen, however, Roan recently needed to set boundaries with fans regarding what she called “predatory behavior” in a lengthy statement on Instagram. “Please stop touching me. Please stop being weird to my family and friends. Please top assuming things about me,” she wrote in the post, which followed a TikTok video in which she also expressed her concerns on the same subject. “There is always more to the story. I am scared and tired. And please—don’t call me Kayleigh.”

The opening theme song for each of the 10 episodes, “El César del Box,” is performed by Banda MS de Sergio Lizárraga and was released Wednesday (Aug. 28) across digital platforms.

“We have a very good relationship with the champion and the people in his office,” Lizárraga, the group’s leader and producer of the song, told Billboard Español. “When the project was put together, he didn’t hesitate to call us and ask us for the song, which for us is a great honor.”

Trending on Billboard

“When he heard the song was already finished, he loved it. Very nice things came from there,” he added. “We sang it to him live and he was moved to tears.”

Released under Lizárraga’s label, Lizos Music, and charged with their usual Sinaloan banda sound, “El César del Box” tells in broad strokes the life of the pugilist, in first person. “Mis hijos los traigo en la mente/ Bajo el ring los golpes son más fuertes/ Toquéqué el cielo, ya conocí el suelo/ Y aún sigo en el top/ Yo soy Julio Chávez/ Más bien/ Soy el César del boxeo,” goes part of the lyrics. That translates to, “I have my children in my mind/ Under the ring the blows are stronger/ I touched the sky, I already knew the ground/ And I am still on top/ I am Julio Chávez/ Rather, I am the Caesar of boxing.

Chávez’s life has been full of emotional moments, with highs and lows that include drug problems. For this reason, said Lizárraga, writing about his life was a challenge for composer Omar Robles, who is responsible for Banda MS hits such as the romantic “El Color de Tus Ojos.”

“They gave us the freedom to talk about his life. The only request was that we focus on the positive things and the achievements of the champion,” said Lizárraga.

For the music video, Banda MS invited Chávez to Mazatlán, where the star was “always in good spirits and willing to work for the 16 hours” of filming. The clip shows the fighter, accompanied by Banda MS, simulating his triumphant entrance into the ring.

At 62 years old, JC Chávez, as he is also known, can boast of having made history in the super featherweight, lightweight and super lightweight divisions, becoming the pride of an entire country.

“Personally I consider myself a fan of boxing and of course of Julio César Chávez’s career,” said Lizárraga, noting that the sport has given Mexicans many joys, including recently at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where Mazatlán’s Marco Verde won a silver medal.

He also recalled with emotion Chávez’s historic fight against American Meldrick Taylor on March 17, 1990: “It was defined in the last round by a knockout when it was felt that it was already lost. And then came that blow that made our champion greater.”

Nikki Glaser is set to host the 82nd annual Golden Globes, which is set to air on Sunday, Jan. 5, (8-11 p.m. live ET/5-8 p.m. live PT) on CBS.
Glaser is the first woman to serve as solo host of the Globes in recent years. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were co-hosts four times (2013-15, 2021). Actress Sandra Oh co-hosted with comedian Andy Samberg in 2019.

Glaser, 40, is nominated for a Primetime Emmy for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded) as executive producer and performer on the HBO special Someday You’ll Die. The award will be presented on night one of the Creative Arts Emmys on Sept. 7.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Golden Globes,” Glaser said in a statement. “It’s one of my favorite nights of television and now I get a front row seat (actually, I think I have to host from the stage). The Golden Globes is not only a huge night for TV and film, but also for comedy. It’s one of the few times that show business not only allows, but encourages itself to be lovingly mocked (at least I hope so). (God I hope so). It’s an exciting, yet challenging gig because it’s live, unpredictable, and in front of Hollywood’s biggest stars (who also might be getting wasted while seated next to their recent exes).”

Trending on Billboard

Glaser continued, “Some of my favorite jokes of all time have come from past Golden Globes opening monologues when Tina, Amy, or Ricky [Gervais] have said exactly what we all didn’t know we desperately needed to hear. I just hope to continue in that time honored tradition (that might also get me canceled). This is truly a dream job.”

“Nikki Glaser brings a fresh and unmatched candor to her comedy and to the Golden Globes,” Jay Penske, chairman and CEO of Dick Clark Productions and Penske Media Corporation, said in a statement. “Her unapologetic style made her an obvious and compelling choice as host for this year’s event. We’re hopeful this could be the first of many Golden Globes that Nikki will surprise and delight our CBS audience, as well as our audiences around the globe.”

“Nikki Glaser is a comedic powerhouse whose daring and unfiltered humor is the perfect match for the Golden Globes,” said Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes. “She is sure to bring a unique energy and spontaneity to the show that will keep the audience entertained all night.”

The Golden Globes, the first major award show of the season, is often referred to as “Hollywood’s Party of the Year.” It’s the largest awards show to celebrate the best of both film and television. Multi-Emmy Award-winning producing duo Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner of White Cherry Entertainment will return as executive producing showrunners for the 82nd Golden Globes. Dick Clark Productions will plan, host and produce the annual Golden Globes.

CBS’ broadcast of the 81st annual Golden Globes on Sunday, Jan. 7, hosted by comedian Jo Koy, averaged 10 million viewers (Nielsen Live+7-Day national ratings), up nearly +50% from last year, its largest audience since 2020. The telecast was also the third-largest livestreamed CBS special event on Paramount+ ever in terms of AMA (average minute audience) and reach.

The deadline for motion picture and television submissions for the 2025 Golden Globes is Monday, Nov. 4. Nominations are set to be announced on Monday, Dec. 9.

In addition to airing live on CBS, the show will stream on Paramount+ in the U.S. (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the special airs).

Penske Media Eldridge — a joint venture between Billboard’s parent company Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge — owns Dick Clark Productions, the producer of the Golden Globe Awards.

Though they may have started as musicians, many of the world’s biggest stars have also adapted their performance abilities for the screen. Some simply dabble in Hollywood, dipping their toes into acting as a hobby or making cameos in projects to boost a cast list with their star power. Others take it as seriously as […]

The Oakland nurse, who has been balancing her day job with her passion for music, delivered a standout performance on Aug. 27 that not only had the judges on their feet but also earned her a direct ticket to the finals thanks to Heidi Klum’s Golden Buzzer.

From the start, Dee Dee brought an exciting energy to the stage as she wowed the crowd with her vocal brilliance. Halfway through the song, she kicked off her shoes, letting the moment take over as she poured her heart into the performance. The judges couldn’t help but take notice.

“You knocked your shoes off. You knocked my shoes off,” Howie Mandel said, nodding to Dee Dee’s spontaneous decision to perform barefoot. “You made the song your own, and you were amazing.”

Simon Cowell, never one to hold back his opinion, was hugely impressed by the powerhouse performance, saying, “This is what it’s all about—someone who isn’t a full-time singer seizes the moment and shows the world who they are. Dee Dee, I think you’ve got a real shot at winning this competition.”

Sofia Vergara, clearly impressed, added, “This was your lane, and you took control of it. This performance topped your audition—you’re a star tonight.”

But it was Heidi Klum who sealed the deal. “Dee Dee, your voice has such a rich tone, and you look stunning tonight. But I felt like something was missing—like a sparkly belt, a sparkly ring, something gold,” Klum said, just before she hit the Golden Buzzer, sending the singer straight to the finals amid a shower of golden confetti.

“My stomach was talking to me, and you were the best tonight—you’re amazing!”

As the confetti fell, Dee Dee stood in disbelief, thanking the crowd and the judges. “Oh my God, thank you so much, America. I love you.”

“Lose Control,” the song Dee Dee performed, has been a major hit for Teddy Swims. The track debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023 and climbed to No. 1 in March this year. It would go on to stay on the chart for a whopping 54 weeks.

The competition may be tough, but with this performance and the Golden Buzzer, Dee Dee Simon has positioned herself as a serious contender for the AGT 2024 title.
