Succession‘s Kieran Culkin and Only Murders in the Building‘s Selena Gomez popped into the latest episode of Saturday Night Live for a Father of the Bride reunion.
Steve Martin and Martin Short both hosted the Dec. 10 show, which saw the comedic duo reprise their iconic characters, George Banks and wedding planner Franck Eggelhoffer, respectively, in a bit that riffed on the film and franchise sequels.

Culkin returned as a grown Matty Banks, while SNL castmembers took the family’s other various roles, including Chloe Fineman impersonating Diane Keaton in her role of mother Nina Banks and Heidi Gardner as the titular bride Annie, originally played by Kimberly Williams-Paisley. Bowen Yang also starred in the sketch, appearing as Howard Weinstein, second-in-command to Short’s Eggelhoffer — a role originated by BD Wong.

Returning to 24 Maple Dr., the Banks family is gearing up for yet another wedding for Annie, who is now 52 in Father of the Bride: Part 8. The imagined sequel follows Annie “three decades and seven divorces later,” as she opens her heart to the potential of marriage yet again.

In typical fashion, Martin’s George is dragging his feet, though this time it might be easier to understand why. “Annie, what makes you think I can afford another Nancy Meyers-style wedding?” he gasped. “I’m financially drained!”

“But daddy, I’m your little girl,” Gardner’s Annie whines before Martin snaps back, “You’re 52! Your mom started driving Lyft to pay for your last wedding.”

It’s quickly revealed that a shrimp tower and performances by Nicki Minaj were included in previous weddings, ceremonies orchestrated by none other than Yang’s Weinstein and Short’s Eggelhoffer, who is still using his signature and unintelligible accent.

“That’s right, Martin Short is back as the beloved wedding planner Franck doing an accent that I think is still OK,” the sketch’s voiceover says. “Let’s all agree it’s still OK.”

Culkin and Gomez make their appearances soon after, with the Succession star’s voiceover introduction hilariously acknowledging that audiences likely forgot the actor was in the film, but that it’s OK. “Did you forget that Kieran Culkin is in this movie? So did we, and so did he. But he was, and now he’s on Succession, so good for him.”

Gomez, who crashed Martin and Short’s monologue earlier in the night, ultimately makes an appearance as Annie’s wedding performer. “How much is she gonna cost me,” Martin asks before Gomez casually responds “$1.8 million easy.”

But it’s a price Martin’s George is willing to pay for his “little girl — my menopausal little girl,” he joked.

Before diving into each other’s eulogies, the comedians took a second to reminisce about their past SNL hosting gigs, with the Dec. 10 episode being Martin’s 16th time hosting the show and Short’s third.

“You see, we are like Harry and Meghan,” Short said, referring to Netflix’s new docuseries from the couple. “No one’s rooting for us, but you’ll tune in to watch anyway.” Martin then went on to joke about how working with Short for him is like watching the World Cup: He just can’t get into it.

When Short told Martin he adores working with him and wishes they could do it forever, Martin said Short can’t because he won’t live forever.

“It’s sad because you won’t be able to hear the wonderful things I’m going to say at your memorial,” Martin told Short. “So, I thought why wait? So, what I did was I wrote up your eulogy so you can hear it now.” Short quipped back that he did the same.

“I will always be haunted by Marty’s last words: Tesla autopilot engage,” Martin said in his eulogy for Short.

“I learned so much from Steve,” Short said. “For example, he taught me that you don’t need to restrict the urinal to just number one.”

Throughout the opening monologue, the co-stars and touring partners threw playful shade at each other.

“Even at the end, Marty had a wonderful girlfriend smart, beautiful and so realistic,” Martin said. “He was always sexually active — as long as there were batteries in the house. He was taken away from us too soon, but sadly, not before he played Jack Frost in Santa Clause 3.”

NBC announced Saturday (Dec. 10) that Lizzo will step in for previously announced performers Yeah Yeah Yeahs on next weekend’s Saturday Night Live as the final musical guest of 2022. When she joins host Austin Butler on the Dec. 17 episode, it will mark the third time the pop-rap star has performed on the show.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs announced on their socials that they had to cancel because guitarist Nick Zinner is still recovering after contracting pneumonia last month. In addition to SNL, the band also pulled out of KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas festival in Los Angeles on Saturday.

“As many of our fans know Nick has had pneumonia over the past month and it’s been an up and down recovery process,” the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ statement reads. “The band’s top priority is supporting Nick through a full recovery, as a result we had to pull out from our engagements of KROQ’s Acoustic Christmas and Saturday Night Live.

“YYYs have enjoyed the incredible highs of being supported on KROQ and the huge honor of being chosen to close out SNL’s 2022, we are deeply thankful and expectedly heartbroken we cannot rise to these occasions,” the statement continues. “It’s been a tough week, and it’s been a tough year on the health front for us alongside so many artists who are committed to connecting with audiences amidst a pandemic. We send our love to our fans and supporters, thank you for your understanding and well wishes, it means the world to us. Wishing you a healthy and happy rest of 2022, we’re looking forward to a strong return in 2023. Much love, Karen, Nick, and Brian.”

Bowen Yang was announced Friday (Dec. 9) as the latest star to be cast in the upcoming Wicked movie, and the comedian has some thoughts about it.

After Variety reported the casting news, the Saturday Night Live star took to social media to share a photo of “Galinda” — the birth name of the Good Witch before she rebrands herself as “Glinda” in the musical — written on a whiteboard in pink marker and surrounded by a giant heart. “What the f— is a ‘hoi polloi’????” he wrote in the caption, referencing the bougie phrase found in the lyrics of “One Short Day,” which documents the leading ladies’ very first razzle-dazzle-filled trip to the famous Emerald City.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo — who are playing Glinda and Elphaba, respectively — were quick to jump in the comments of Yang’s post, with the pop star writing, “I love you so much” and the Broadway actress sending her congratulations in the form of a bunch of green hearts and loving face emojis.

According to Variety, the SNL breakout will play a classmate of the two famous witches at Shiz University. Also joining the big-screen adaptation are Marissa Bode as Elphaba’s wheelchair-bound younger sister Nessarose, Aaron Teoh as Avaric, Colin Michael Carmichael as Professor Nikidik and The Greatest Showman‘s Keala Settle as a new character named Miss Coddle.

Aside from Grande and Erivo, the star-studded cast also includes Bridgerton heartthrob Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Broadway veteran Ethan Slater as Boq, and the newly announced Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible with director Jon M. Chu.

Only legends in the building! Saturday Night Live released the teaser for its upcoming episode on Friday (Dec. 9), starring Steve Martin and Martin Short.
In the clip, the two hosts team up with veteran cast member Cecily Strong and musical guest Brandi Carlile. “You know, Brandi, if you’re looking for some backup singers, we’re actually pretty good,” Martin promised before he and his Only Murders in the Building co-star broke out into a doo-wop freestyle with some help from Strong.

Carlile’s reaction? “I’m good,” she politely asserts before rolling her eyes and walking off camera. (For her part, Strong tells the two hosts, “We nailed it,” to which they both vigorously agree.)

In the next bit, Strong quips, “Wow, double the hosts,” and Short replies, “Ah, but triple the threats!” and Martin jumps in to explain, “Because Marty here can sing, act and dance!”

“And Steve currently has flu, RSV and COVID,” Short fires off without missing a beat. “That’s right, they call it an EGOT,” his five-time Grammy-winning pal adds, though it’s actually Strong who gets the last punchline as she jokes, “As in, ‘e got ’em all!”

The episode, which airs Saturday on NBC, will mark Martin’s 16th time hosting the late-night sketch show and Short’s fourth — though the latter also worked as a cast member on the series for a single season back in the mid-’80s.

It’s safe to say Cardi B is invested in The Crown. On Thursday (Dec. 7), the superstar took to social media to share her thoughts as she continued binging Season 5 of the hit Netflix drama.

Most of the rapper’s hottest takes had to do with the illicit romance between then-Prince Charles (Dominic West) and Camilla Parker Bowles (Olivia Williams) as well as the couple’s blatant manipulation of Princess Diana (played by Elizabeth Debicki) as they carried on their affair.

“Why would Charles want Diana to hang out with Camila? THE NERVE the f–k !” she wrote in one tweet, misspelling Bowles’ name, adding minutes later, “Camila think she slick sending congrats notes to Diana ….I wish a b—h would” with an unimpressed emoji.

Cardi also offered her Twitter followers some sage dating advice based on her reaction to the quasi-historical drama. “One thing I notice is that Camila treat Charles like s–t ….Sooo ladies if you want a man to chase you act like THE CHASE don’t do the CHASING!” (For the record, Netflix regarded Season 5 as a fictional dramatization” in both the season trailer and series description, though chose not to run a disclaimer at the top of each episode.)

The “Hot S–t” rapper first got into the new season of the royal drama last month, when she tweeted the following around Thanksgiving: “Watching The Crown just shows you that you can be the queen of England or you can be the girl next door, we all got the same problems with men…stay safe.”

Investigation Discovery dropped the teaser for its upcoming docuseries The Price of Glee on Thursday (Dec. 8) and in the clip, Naya Rivera‘s father breaks his silence on his daughter’s tragic death.

The preview lays out the history of the cast behind the ultra-popular Fox musical series, including the deaths of Cory Monteith, Mark Salling and Rivera in, respectively, 2013, 2018 and 2020.

“Three major cast members dead?” one interviewee says in the video, while another adds, “I don’t want to say the C-word, the ‘curse’ word, but that’s where your mind goes.”

Rivera’s father looks back on her success and the popularity she found playing fan-favorite character Santana Lopez over the show’s six seasons. “I knew that was the top of the mountain for Naya,” he says in his confessional. “For your kid, it was just surreal.”

He gives one more sound bite, declaring, “Fame can be poisonous,” though the context for his statement isn’t immediately clear in the moment. Later, the teaser cuts to a clip of the press conference held after Rivera’s body was found in California’s Lake Piru, where she drowned in July 2020. “She mustered enough energy to get her son back onto the boat. But not enough to save herself,” a law enforcement officer giving a press conference explained at the time.

The trailer also touches on Monteith’s death from an accidental drug overdose in the middle of filming Glee’s fifth season, as well as Salling pleading guilty to possession of child pornography and his subsequent suicide before he could be sentenced to any jail time.

In March, Rivera’s family settled their wrongful death lawsuit with Ventura County.

The Price of Glee premieres Jan. 16 on Investigation Discovery and can also be streamed on Discovery+. Watch the teaser below.

My dear, my dear! Director Jon M. Chu shared the news Thursday (Dec. 8) that Michelle Yeoh has been cast in the big-screen adaptation of Wicked as Madame Morrible.

“It took one tweet to convince the ICON (and dear friend) #MichelleYeoh to play our Madame Morrible in #WickedMovie,” the filmmaker tweeted along with an article by The Hollywood Reporter confirming the casting. (Variety was first to report the news.) “Am I the luckiest director in the world to get to work with her again?! Spoiler alert: yes I am. Welcome to Shiz.”

In the Broadway version of the beloved Wizard of Oz prequel, Yeoh’s character serves as the headmistress of Shiz and promises to introduce Elphaba to the famous Wizard himself, leading into fan-favorite number “The Wizard and I.”

As filming begins on the silver-screen musical — which is being split into two movies — Tony-nominated actor Ethan Slater was announced as Boq, joining Ariana Grande as Glinda, Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Bridgerton heartthrob Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero. According to THR, Jeff Goldblum will also be playing the Wizard.

Grande celebrated Yeoh’s casting in her Instagram Stories, reposting Chu’s announcement along with dozens of exclamation points.

Idina Menzel, who originated the role of Elphaba on the Great White Way, revealed the advice she gave to Erivo and Grande via a November appearance on E! News. “Just always keeping in mind that what’s underneath it all is just a woman that wants to be loved,” she said. “Think of all the other little young women or men that are or anybody that are watching them to see what it’s like to be different but be beautiful and to own that.”

It’s nice to have a friend. Or eight? At the premiere of M3GAN on Wednesday (Dec. 7), an army of life-size M3GANs invaded the red carpet to perform a creepy dance number set to “It’s Nice to Have a Friend” by Taylor Swift.

The Hollywood Reporter‘s Chris Gardner tweeted a video from the event at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in L.A., showing the eight dancers twirling, twisting and body rolling to the Lover deep cut much like the eponymous doll in the horror film.

“Light pink sky, up on the roof/ Sun sinks down, no curfew/ Twenty questions, we tell the truth/ You’ve been stressed out lately, yeah me too/ Something gave you the nerve/ To touch my hand/ It’s nice to have a friend,” Swift can be heard singing on the record as the M3GAN — or “Model 3 Generative Android” — lookalikes all move in chilling unison.

The track off the singer’s 2019 album was first used in the initial trailer for the Blumhouse sci-fi thriller starring Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Amie McDonald and the voice of Jenna Davis. The movie hits theaters nationwide on Jan. 6.

At the premiere, the movie’s producer, Jason Blum, also dressed as the terrifying red-headed doll, writing, “Get ready, world. I’m back” alongside a selfie posted to his Twitter account.

Meanwhile, Tay gave Swifties a behind-the-scenes look at her Grammy-nominated All Too Well short film this week, showing the superstar bringing her creative vision to life as a first-time director and working with actors Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien.

Winter is coming … swiftly. Named to The Hollywood Reporter‘s 2022 Women In Entertainment Power 100, Taylor Swift revealed to the publication Wednesday (Dec. 7) that the fictional character she identifies a lot with is Game of Thrones‘ Arya Stark.

“I realize I don’t know how to use a sword and I’ve never had to rise up from near death to go on an epic revenge mission,” quipped the 32-year-old pop star. “But I have been in the music industry for over 15 years, so …”

This isn’t the first time Swift has shared her love for HBO’s hit fantasy drama. In fact, she once revealed that her 2017 album Reputation was inspired, in part, by Arya and her sister, Sansa Stark. “So much of my imagination was spent on Game of Thrones,” she told Entertainment Weekly in 2019. “At the time, I was making reputation and I didn’t talk about it in interviews, so I didn’t reveal that a lot of the songs were influenced by the show.”

The single “Look What You Made Me Do,” for example, is “literally Arya Stark’s kill list,” according to Swift. And “I Did Something Bad”? Inspired by a GoT plot line in which Arya and Sansa — played by Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner, respectively — conspire to kill another character on the show, Littlefinger.

The 11-time Grammy winner also shared in the Women in Entertainment Power piece which Hollywood figure she’d like to trade places with. Instead of naming a fellow singer-songwriter, she shouted out director Guillermo Del Toro.

“Imagine having that imagination, that visual vocabulary and that astonishing body of work,” she said of the Shape of Water filmmaker. “To have such a diverse storytelling range but to somehow put your distinctive artistic fingerprint on every film. And yet, it feels like he’s still so curious and enthusiastic about his work. I can only imagine that a day in his mind would be fascinating.”

Mindy Kaling, who was also featured on the Women in Entertainment Power list, had a much different answer to the same question. She said she’d like to trade places with Tay’s assistant, because “you know they got seats to her concert.”
