Britney Spears is coming to a big screen near you. Trafalgar Releasing, Sony Music Entertainment and RCA Records announced on Thursday (Sept. 21) that Spears’ 2002 coming-of-age film Crossroads will return to screens around the world on Oct. 23 and Oct. 25 in support of the pop star’s upcoming tell-all memoir, The Woman in Me (Oct. 24).
The dramedy written by Shonda Rhimes (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy) and directed by Tamra Davis (CB4, 13) will be back with bonus features never before seen in theaters — including a sing-along to two of Spears’ songs from the film. In the midst of the ongoing Hollywood strike by actors and writers that has stunted the roll-out and promotion of films, TV and streaming shows, the Spears re-release will flood 875 screens in 24 countries just two weeks after Taylor Swift’s anticipated Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour live concert film hits thousands of theaters across North America.

Crossroads – based on a story idea from Spears — also co-stars stars Zoe Saldaña, Taryn Manning, Kim Cattrall and Dan Aykroyd in a tale of three estranged childhood friends (Spears, Manning, Saldaña) who reunite on the night of their high school graduation to dig up their “wish box” and set off on an adventure-filled, cross-country road trip that rekindles their friendship.

“I recently rewatched Crossroads and was so enthralled with the time capsule of nostalgia that this incredible ensemble cast brings to the screen,” director Davis said in a statement. “Britney is absolutely breathtaking to watch, and Shonda is showing us her early expertise in writing complicated female characters.

The movie was former Mickey Mouse Club star Spears’ first feature film role and it initially rolled into theaters when Spears was at the peak of her pop powers, following on the heels of her 2001 Britney album, which spawned the hits “I’m a Slave 4 U” and “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman.” Though critics dismissed the film while praising Spears’ performance, the $12 million film was considered a success at the time thanks to $61.1 million in box office receipts; tickets for the Crossroads re-release will go on sale on Sept. 28.

The Hollywood Reporter also said that in addition to a new line of merch featuring shirts, sweats, jackets and pieces inspired by the film’s wardrobe, RCA Records will release a Crossroads: Special Edition of the soundtrack, with three new Spears remixes: “Overprotected” (Richi Lopez Remix), “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” (Snakehips Remix) and “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” (Frank Walker Remix).

Showbiz has dished up some memorable odd couples.
David Bowie teaming up with Bing Crosby for a Christmas classic wasn’t on anyone’s bingo card. No one saw Metallica and Lou Reed coming, together. Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue melted minds with a one-off murder ballad in the mid-90s.

Add to the list a “country meets contortion” entry, thanks to Reba McEntire’s performance with Sofie Dossi for the America’s Got Talent results show.

On Wednesday night (Sept. 20), McEntire and her band rocked their way through “Can’t Even Get The Blues,” with Dossi, a contestant back in season 11, who performed precision acrobatic moves and hair-raising stunts on stage, above it and on the judges table.

The collaboration was a reunion of sorts. It was McEntire, who, as an AGT judge back in 2016, gave Dossi her Golden Buzzer. Dossi, aged just 14 at the time, finished in the top 10 during that run, then returned for America’s Got Talent: The Champions, where she was eliminated in the preliminaries. Now aged 22, Dossi has over 9 million subscribers on YouTube, and a music career of her own (2022’s “Bunny” has more than 7 million plays on YT).

McEntire is buckling in for another long-stint on reality TV. The country icon is joining season 24 of NBC’s The Voice as its new coach. Starting from next Monday (Sept. 25), she’ll be seated next to John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Niall Horan.

McEntire and Dossi didn’t provide the only entertainment of the evening on AGT. Two acts were voted into next week’s finals — the vocal ensemble 82nd Airbone Division Chorus and acrobats the Ramadhani Brothers, while a last-minute instant save provided a lifeline for dance troupe Avantgardey.

They head into next Wednesday’s final, where they compete with vocal group Mzansi Youth Choir, singers Lavender Darcangelo and Putri Ariani, dance groups Chibi Unity and Murmuration, magician Anna Deguzman, comedian Ahren Belisle, and canine specialists Adrian Stoica & Hurricane.

Styx’s “Renegade” reigns on Billboard’s Top TV Songs chart, powered by Tunefind, for August 2023, after it was heard in the season premiere of Showtime’s Billions.
Rankings for the Top TV Songs chart are based on song and show data provided by Tunefind and ranked using a formula blending that data with sales and streaming information tracked by Luminate during the corresponding period of August 2023.

“Renegade,” a No. 16 hit for Styx on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1979, lands at No. 1 following its synch in Billions’ Aug. 11 episode, which coronated the premiere of its seventh and final season.

In August 2023, “Renegade” earned 5.1 million official on-demand U.S. streams and 1,000 downloads, according to Luminate.

The song reigns over Massive Attack’s “Teardrop,” which bows at No. 2. It was heard in the series premiere of The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, a newcomer to Amazon Prime Video’s slate of programming that first aired Aug. 4.

“Teardrop,” which bubbled under the Hot 100 in 1998, garnered 1.5 million streams in August 2023.

Music from the continuation of the second season of Amazon’s The Summer I Turned Pretty dots much of the remainder of the Top TV Songs top 10. The July 2023 list featured Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child o’ Mine,” heard in the show’s fourth episode of its second season (July 21), at No. 1, and the final three episodes of season 2 aired in August.

“Exile,” by Taylor Swift and featuring Bon Iver, leads the pack of The Summer I Turned Pretty songs at No. 3 (15.6 million streams, 4,000 downloads), followed by Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA” at No. 4 (22.7 million streams, 3,000 downloads). In all, four of the chart’s 10 songs are from the Amazon series.

See the full top 10, also featuring music from Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, Hard Knocks and What We Do in the Shadows, below.

We’re still more than a year out from the 2024 U.S. presidential election, but one particularly unlikely name seems to have The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin’s vote. During a heated Wednesday morning (Sept. 20) roundtable discussion about the imminent government shutdown, Griffin controversially claimed that Taylor Swift is doing more for the economy than […]

The wait is over as American Horror Story (AHS) is back for a chilling 12th season. Antsy for some spooks and thrills? The popular anthology series returns to screens Wednesday (Sept. 20) at 10 p.m. ET on FX, and the next day on Hulu.

This season, titled AHS: Delicate, takes inspiration for the first time from a novel — Delicate Condition by Danielle Valentine — and to call it creepy is an understatement. Emma Roberts returns as a lead character named Anna, an up-and-coming indie actress who is desperate to have a baby and start a family with her husband Dexter (Matt Czuchry). She undergoes grueling IVF treatment and finally becomes pregnant, but the good news doesn’t last as she soon comes to believe that sinister forces are plotting against her.

Series creator Ryan Murphy is back with a star-studded cast, including The Kardashian’s star Kim Kardashian, model Cara Delevingne and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, who are all joining the show for the first time. Other newcomers include Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Maaz Ali and Juliana Canfield. Returning cast members include Denis O’Hare, Billie Lourd and Leslie Grossman.

Henrique earned Sofia Vergara’s Golden Buzzer earlier in the season, with a performance of Whitney Houston’s “Run to You”.

Now, with his spot in the Qualifiers round, Henrique swung for the fences with a rendition of Jacob Banks’ “Something Beautiful,” combining pitch, power and an array of high notes that climbed to whistle range, a skill that would make Mariah Carey proud.

The room delivered a standing applause, as did all four judges.

“I don’t even have anything to say. It was perfection,” Vergara later enthused. “It was just like an angel. You are definitely a star. It was beautiful.” And it was goosebumps material, she declared, showing off the effect on her arm to her fellow judges.

Simon Cowell remarked, “You could have sung something less obvious. The fact that you sung this song…you absolutely nailed it. It was way better in my opinion than your first audition.” Just “maybe” with that performance, the Brit remarked, Henrique might have booked a spot in the final.

“You have an unbelievable talent,” was Heidi Klum’s opinion. “Especially from the second part of the song, you showed what sets you apart from the other singers. I feel like you busted out some tunes that are unhuman. It was incredible what we just heard.”

Speaking last, Howie Mandel admitted his initial concerns about the song choice. Those worries quickly disappeared. “Once you hit that note, that’s what makes you stand out. That’s why people are going to remember you.”

Just two contestants can go through from tonight’s round. Now, it’s America’s turn to vote.

Speaking through an interpreter, Henrique shared a parting gift. “I like to say what I feel in my heart,” he noted. “And if it’s not with love, then it doesn’t mean anything.”

The short clip features archival footage of the English singer-songwriter in his early years, as a confident schoolboy to his ascent to stardom as one fifth of chart topping boy band One Direction, multiple years before his solo career would be conceived. Such stardom led to the 31-year-old experiencing self-doubt at his ability to make something of himself outside the comfort of performing alongside his groupmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne or Zayn Malik.

“I thought for me, it was the band or nothing. It was hard for me to imagine myself on my own. I didn’t see a way back, not even musically, just to do anything,” Tomlinson said in the trailer’s narration of the dark period in his life.

After a period of self-reflection, Tomlinson’s esteem improved, allowing him to get back into the studio again. “I started to feel, ‘Maybe I do have some individual worth. What about making some music on your own.’ I remember calling my mom, and she was like, ‘Well that’s obviously what you’re gonna do,’” he recalled. “It finally does feel like the stars might be aligning for me. I finally feel worthy of where I am and what I’m doing.”

The trailer concluded with several clips from Tomlinson’s life now as a soloist, from performing for packed crowds across the world to enjoying much needed time off and looking happier than ever.

Louis Tomlinson: All of Those Voices — which promises to show the star’s “highs of superstardom, to the lows of personal tragedy,” according the documentary’s official description — is scheduled to arrive on Paramount+ on Oct. 4.
