We all know and love The Plastics: Regina, Gretchen, Karen and … Megan? In a new Extra interview, Mean Girls star Reneé Rapp gushes over Megan Thee Stallion and recounts her journey with the character of Regina George.
“It’s been like five years of my life now,” Rapp joked. “I’m milking this IP for jobs until I can’t anymore.” Before taking Regina George to the big screen in the new Mean Girls movie musical, Rapp portrayed the character in the Broadway stage musical for several months during 2019-2020. The original Broadway production of Mean Girls earned 12 Tony nominations. Although her stint on The Great White Way eventually gave way to her reprisal of the role in the film adaptation, Rapp quipped, “I’m tired of wearing pink! I’ve had it, I’m good on it!”
Rapp handles most of the film’s soundtrack — alongside co-stars Auliʻi Cravalho, Jaquel Spivey and Avantika — and she even co-wrote and recorded some new original songs for the album. In addition to co-writing “What If’s” with Nell Benjamin, Rapp collaborated with Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion for the single “Not My Fault.” Paired with a pink-tastic choreography-laced music video, “Not My Fault” features the two stars thriving in all of their plastic glory. The pair’s joint dance scenes have gone viral across social media, and those happened to be the scenes that made Rapp swoon.
“Actually best a– I’ve ever seen in my life,” she gushed. “We were in dance rehearsal and I was like, ‘Wow, this is incredible! ‘I’ve actually never seen anything like this.” “Not My Fault” has so far peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 — Rapp’s first entry on any Billboard singles chart. The “Tummy Hurts” singer — who unleashed Snow Angel, her Billboard 200-charting debut studio album last year (No. 44) — continued: “I’m a true Meg supporter. I hate that other man, so I love Megan Thee Stallion. I love her. If anybody tries her when it comes to that sorry a– man, it’s a do or die fight for me.”
Rapp is likely referencing Tory Lanez, the Canadian rapper and singer who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot back in 2020. On the Mean Girls premiere red carpet Monday (Jan. 8), Megan told Entertainment Tonight, “I love Reneé. As soon as I met her I was like, ‘Oh, you my friend. OK.’ I love it. I love her and I love Mean Girls!”
Mean Girls hits theatres this Friday, Jan. 12, and the accompanying soundtrack will be available on all digital streaming platforms the same day.

Jeymes Samuel , the director of The Book of Clarence, stopped by Billboard News to talk with Billboard‘s Executive Director of Hip-Hop and R&B, Gail Mitchell, about creating the movie, casting LaKeith Stanfield, working with Jay-Z, creating music for movies and more!Jeymes Samuel:When I open my eyes in the morning, the Lord says, “Action.” And the movie of my of my life begins.
Hey, everyone. I’m Jeymes Samuel, and this is Billboard News.
Gail Mitchell:This is Gail Mitchell, executive director of R&B and hip-hop for Billboard magazine, and I’m here to chat with the director of the upcoming film The Book of Clarence, Jeymes Samuel.
Biblical epic, this one is. Before it was a Western epic with The Harder They Fall, your earlier film. So what is it about the word “epic” and “bold” that catches your attention and you go with it?
Jeymes Samuel: I think for me, “epic” and “bold” are two of the words that define cinema. You know, it’s not often you know, in this day when every other movie is a superhero movie, you know, and I love those movies, but it’s really quite rare we get original storytelling in a cinematic experience, right? It’s usually with an IP we’re familiar with and or a sequel or something. I just love original storytelling like I love cinema. I love film. I love music and I love originality. So who better to bring those things than moi?
Gail Mitchell:Exactly! So talk about the cast. You’ve got some great cast members. You’re working with LaKeith again.
Jeymes Samuel:Yeah.
Gail Mitchell:So talk about him. How was he? How does he define Clarence for you? What is it? What instincts did you see in him making The Harder They Fall that clicked with you and said, “This is my Clarence”?Watch the full video above!
2024 marks 30 years of the Spice Girls, and to celebrate, England is marking the occasion in a major way. Mel B appeared on the Monday (Jan. 8) episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and shared that the girl group’s three-decade anniversary comes with a special royal perk.
“It is 30 years and I just realize this because we just released our stamps from the Royal Mail. Usually it’s the queen’s face that’s on the stamp. It went from the queen, to the king and then the Spice Girls have their own stamps,” Scary Spice told the host.
Despite the stamps marking a major achievement for the 48-year-old and the rest of the Spice Girls, her children were not aware of the magnitude of the honor. “My kids are like, ‘What’s a stamp? Why do we need them?’” she joked, imitating her children’s voices. “We feel very privileged and very honored. I’m gonna save them forever and ever, amen, like all my old Spice Girl outfits that no one can touch.”
After Mel B was shown a picture of her daughter Phoenix Chi Gulzar dressed in her old Spice Girls outfits, the singer shared a bit of the history behind the looks, as well as the group’s humble beginnings. “Spice Girls, we’re very much a homegrown band. We styled ourselves and we’d do our own music,” she recalled to Fallon. “We begged producers and co-writers to work with us on the promise that when we’re rich and famous, we’d pay you back. Our journey was tough and we were broke. We dressed ourselves, so when I see that, that was 50 cents, that top.”
Elsewhere during the interview, Mel B — whose real name Melanie Brown — spoke about the series of event that led up to her receiving her MBE honor — Member of the Order of the British Empire — which she received for advocating for domestic violence victims.
“To get an MBE, they do a lot of background checks on you and it’s all about what you’ve contributed to society,” she explained. “I was thinking I’m never going to get an MBE, maybe I will as a Spice Girl because I’m a Spice Girl through and through and girl power.”
The pop star continued, “The MBE arrives in this envelope that gets chauffeur driven to your house and the chauffeur has to hand the envelope to you, but I wasn’t in, so my mum was in … she goes, ‘Oh my god you’re a royal highness! What have you’ve done?’ Then I opened it and it was like, ‘You’ve been awarded and honored an MBE for all the work and awareness that you do for domestic violence and to create support for people that have gone through that.’”
