Travis Kelce

Page: 2

Travis Kelce has left the building. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end is returning to the U.S. after supporting his girlfriend Taylor Swift on the first night of her Eras Tour stint in Sydney, Australia. On Saturday (Feb. 24), Kelce flew on a private jet to Las Vegas to meet up with his Chiefs teammates […]

Travis Kelce had Taylor Swift on his mind even back in 2016! In an old Afterbuzz TV interview clip that resurfaced this week on TMZ, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end is seen playing a game of “Marry, Kiss, Kill,” choosing between Swift, Katy Perry and Ariana Grande. As the title suggests, in the game, […]

Travis Kelce is a supportive boyfriend! The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was spotted landing in Sydney, Australia, ahead of girlfriend Taylor Swift’s Eras tour dates in the country. In photos shared by Page Six, Kelce is seen walking off his private jet, surrounded by security. Swift is performing four shows at Sydney’s Accor Stadium […]

For Will Bratton, the best part of Super Bowl LVIII was not when Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman caught the game-winning pass for an overtime touchdown or when Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker nailed a 57-yard field goal. It was when Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, during the trophy ceremony after the game, belted out an impromptu, raggedy chorus of “Viva Las Vegas” on the CBS broadcast.
Those three words, repeated several times in a pacing and melody only vaguely resembling Elvis Presley’s classic 1964 hit, have delivered an unexpected payday for the song’s rights holders.

“We were very excited about him doing that,” says Bratton, president of Pomus Songs Inc., namesake publisher for the late Doc Pomus, who wrote the song with Mort Shuman. “Royalties are paid for that performance through BMI.”

Trending on Billboard

Kelce’s rendition constituted an “ephemeral use,” according to Rachel Jacobson, who oversees film and TV for Warner Chappell Music (WCM), which administers Pomus’ recordings. As when a marching band plays an off-the-cuff snippet of a song during a televised football game, the use generates a royalty payment through BMI as a public performance. “Anything beyond that, then you come and clear it,” she says.

Although Bratton couldn’t say how much money Pomus Songs made from Kelce’s performance — “BMI’s generally three quarters behind, so we won’t have that data until probably next December” — the revenue is likely to continue. Late-night talk shows airing Kelce’s version would have to pay for a “previewing synch license,” according to Bratton, which would lead to a negotiated fee as opposed to the ephemeral use royalty payment. WCM’s Jacobson is not aware of any requests for such a license involving Kelce’s rendition of “Viva.”

For the Super Bowl, Bratton says, “It was also licensed to CBS Sports for a pre-game show and it was shown once during the game over a viewing of Taylor Swift. That paid — I don’t want to say how much, but it was good money.”

Written for the Presley film of the same name, “Viva” has come to symbolize Las Vegas glamor-and-gambling culture and has been covered by Bruce Springsteen, Dead Kennedys, ZZ Top and Shawn Colvin. Bob Dylan wrote a chapter about the song in his 2022 book, The Philosophy of Modern Song: “This is a song about faith. The kind of faith where you step under a shower spigot in the middle of the desert and fully believe water will come out.”

The song was also in The Big Lebowski and a Viagra commercial (“Viva Viagra”), which, Bratton recalls, “was a very nice synch license momentarily — but I’m not sure if we regret it or not.”

Pomus, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame songwriter who wrote classics such as The Drifters’ “Save the Last Dance for Me” and “This Magic Moment”; The Coasters’ “Young Blood”; and Presley’s “Little Sister,” was a “sports fanatic,” according to Bratton, who is married to Pomus’ daughter, Sharyn Felder. “He would have been thrilled that his song was used like that,” he says of Kelce’s “Vegas” rendition. “It was more of a holler than a sing. It was his enthusiasm that was notable.” He adds: “We just like it to make money.”

So, despite all the people claiming they were not going to watch this year’s Super Bowl LVIII for many reasons *coughs* Taylor Swift, it turns out this year’s edition of the big game was the most watched ever.

ESPN reports a record number of eyes were in front of their television screens to see the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers, Usher’s brilliant Apple Music Halftime show, and less than a minute of Taylor Swift.
Per ESPN:

According to Nielsen and Adobe Analytics, the Kansas City Chiefs’ 25-22 overtime victory versus the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday averaged 123.4 million viewers across television and streaming platforms. That shattered last year’s mark of 115.1 million for Kansas City’s last-play victory over the Philadelphia Eagles with a 7% increase.
Nielsen also says a record 202.4 million people looked at some part of the game across all networks at one point, which was a 10% jump over the previous year’s 183.6 million.
It also eclipses the 2016 Super Bowl between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers on CBS, which had 112.34 million viewers.
It was only the second Super Bowl to go into overtime and the second straight event to average over 100 million viewers.
Possible Reasons For This Year’s Super Bowl’s Ratings Success
On top of the thrilling game that saw the Chiefs need overtime to send the San Franciso 49ers back to the bay without the Lombardi trophy, again, there was also the added hoopla of Taylor Swift being in the building and, of course, highly anticipated halftime performance from Usher.
Leading up to the game, the extreme MAGA crowd somehow managed to link Taylor Swift, President Joe Biden, and Super Bowl LVIII in some ridiculous conspiracy theory.
Following the game’s result, President Biden even mocked them, using the infamous “Dark Brandon” meme with the caption, “Just like we drew it up.”

We will be tuned in again next year.

The Bronx continues to influence pop culture. A photograph of Jason Kelce chatting with Ice Spice is the Super Bowl’s hottest meme.

As reported by Time Magazine Super Bowl LVIII was filled to the brim with interesting moments from NFL coaches making some statements that would make Cam’ron say “AYO” to fans questioning Alicia Keys letting Usher grab her from behind. Before the game Jason Kelce, brother of Travis, was spotted meeting Ice Spice for the first time in Taylor Swift’s sky box. While the moment seemed very innocent the image lent itself to some pretty incredible memes. Some of the standouts included the former football center mistaking the rapper for orphan Annie or making an awkward reference to her songs.

The former football center first met Taylor Swift during the AFC divisional match up between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. After his brother scored a touchdown he took off his shirt in excitement. On his New Heights podcast he detailed the moment with the “Shake It Off” pop star. “I want to make my best first impression, and this was my best chance” he said.
Ice Spice’s rise to stardom has included what seems to be a genuine friendship with Taylor Swift. The two collaborated on “Karma” and have been buddy buddy ever since. You can see some of the best Jason Kelce meeting Ice Spice reactions below.

Donald Trump is sharing his thoughts on who Taylor Swift should support in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
The former commander-in-chief took to Truth Social ahead of Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday (Feb. 11) to express his arguments about why the pop superstar should support him as he potentially faces off against Joe Biden for president this November.

“I signed and was responsible for the Music Modernization Act for Taylor Swift and all other Musical Artists,” Trump began his post. “Joe Biden didn’t do anything for Taylor, and never will. There’s no way she could endorse Crooked Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt President in the History of our Country, and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money.”

In 2018, then-President Trump signed into law the MMA, which alters the way songwriters and music publishers are paid certain royalties.

“The Music Modernization Act closes loopholes in our digital royalties laws to ensure that songwriters, artists and producers receive fair payment for licensing of music,” Trump said at the time of signing. “I’ve been reading about this for many years and never thought I’d be involved in it, but I got involved in it. They were treated very unfairly. They’re not going to be treated unfairly anymore.”

In his Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump also offered some complimentary words for Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who’s facing off against the San Francisco 49ers at the 2024 Super Bowl at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium.

“Besides that, I like her boyfriend, Travis, even though he may be a Liberal, and probably can’t stand me!”

In October 2020, Swift revealed through Twitter (now X) that she would be voting for Biden for president in the U.S. general election. At the time, the singer-songwriter also expressed her opposition of Trump, including his comments on Black Lives Matter protestors in Minnesota and his handling of funding for the U.S. Postal Service.

“The change we need most is to elect a president who recognizes that people of color deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included,” Swift told V Magazine for the publication’s “The Thought Leaders Issue.”

“Everyone deserves a government that takes global health risks seriously and puts the lives of its people first. The only way we can begin to make things better is to choose leaders who are willing to face these issues and find ways to work through them.”

Earlier this year, Trump offered his thoughts on Swift and Kelce’s rumored romance. During an interview with the Daily Caller, the former president was asked for his take on the possible romance between the pop superstar and Kansas City Chiefs tight end.

“I wish the best for both of them. I hope they enjoy their life, maybe together, maybe not — most likely not,” Trump said during the sit-down, which was published Sept. 29.

Will she make it in time?
Taylor Swift’s last song was still ringing in the ears of thousands of fans at the Tokyo Dome on Saturday night (Feb. 10) when the singer rushed to a private jet at Haneda airport, presumably embarking on an intensely scrutinized journey to see her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce, play in the Super Bowl in Las Vegas.

“We’re all gonna go on a great adventure,” Swift earlier told the crowd. She was speaking of the music, but it might also describe her prospective race against time, which was to cross nine time zones and the international date line.

With a final bow at the end of her sold-out show, clad in a blue sequined outfit, the crowd screaming, strobe lights pulsing, confetti falling, Swift disappeared beneath the stage — and her journey to the other side of the world began.

Her expected trip to see Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs play the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas on Sunday, U.S. time, has fired imaginations, and speculation, for weeks.

“I hope she can return in time. It’s so romantic,” said office worker Hitomi Takahashi, 29, who bought matching Taylor Swift sweatshirts with her friend and was taking photos just outside of the Tokyo Dome.

It wasn’t immediately clear late Saturday if Swift’s plane had left. About an hour after the end of the concert, Associated Press journalists were near Haneda’s private jet area when minivans drove up and someone went inside the gate area as four to five people carrying large black umbrellas obstructed the view of the person.

At Saturday night’s concert, there was plenty of evidence of the unique cultural phenomenon that is the Swift-Kelce relationship, a nexus of professional football and the huge star power of Swift. In addition to people wearing sequined dresses celebrating Swift in the packed Tokyo Dome, there were Travis Kelce jerseys and hats and other gear celebrating the Chiefs. Some in Tokyo spent thousands of dollars to attend the pop superstar’s concerts this week.

“Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone,” Swift sang Saturday.

She won’t find that Sunday in Las Vegas when a sold-out crowd, not to mention millions around the world, will be watching her.

If she makes it, that is.

On Jan. 29, an article from the New York Times weirdly credited Travis Kelce for inventing “the fade” haircut, which has been a staple in hoods across America for decades. And after a collective groan was heard on every block from coast to coast, Kelce has stepped up to set the record straight.

The NFL superstar not only pushed back on the notion that he started the “trend” of getting fades, but also took issue with the article dropping days before Black History Month.

“And to do it on Feb. 1,” said Kelce during his Super Bowl press conference. “They throw me into the wolves like that. That was messed up, man. I don’t want anything to do with that one, man.”
Kelce, whose business managers happen to be Black men, by the way, also offered some style tip. “It’s a two on top and a nice high-to-mid fade with a taper in the back,” he said, “I didn’t invent that. I just asked for it,” he added.
Why thank you sir for being honest and self-aware in this particular situation. Had Kelce had a Trumpian attitude, he probably would’ve accepted credit for inventing the haircut as Cheeto Jesus is notorious for trying to colonize things he had absolutely nothing to do with. Kelce knew heads were ready to chew him up if he went along with the story.
Now that he’s set the record straight on the matter, he can continue to go about his business and be a part of other conspiracy theories that the far-right MAGAts currently have him involved in such as he and Taylor Swift are actually agents for the CIA who’s mission it was to get to the Super Bowl and somehow convince Americans to vote for Joe Biden during the big game. We would say you can’t make this stuff up, but someone did and now it’s a thing. America in 2024.
What do y’all think of Travis Kelce’s response to Fadegate? Y’all good on him setting the record straight? Let us know in the comments section below.
