The tour is in support of the group’s upcoming eighth full-length studio album, In Times New Roman…, the follow-up to 2017’s Villains. Tool are hitting the road this fall. The prog rockers announced the dates for a North American tour on Tuesday morning (June 6), including their first Canadian shows since 2019. The fall outing will compliment the band’s previously announced summer festival gigs with six weeks of new non-fest shows slated to kick off on Oct. 3 in Loveland, CO at the Budweiser Event Center.
The two-month fall outing will include gigs in Salt Lake City, Spokane, Portland, Vancouver, Calgary, St. Paul, Milwaukee, Boston, Philadelphia and Montreal before wrapping up with a pair of shows on Nov. 20-21 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

Tickets for all the non-festival shows will go on sale on Friday (June 9) at 10 a.m. local time, with additional Tool Army memberships recently opened up; exclusive pre-sale tickets for members will go on sale at 10 a.m. local time on Thursday (June 8). The band — who are touring in support of what was their first full-length release in 13 years, 2019’s album Fear Inoculum — will kick off the run on Sept. 22 with a slot at the Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville, KY and also play the Aftershock Festival on Oct. 6 in Sacramento, CA and the hard rock desert superfest Power Trip on Oct. 8 in Indio, CA.

Singer Maynard James Keenan made news last month when he wore what appeared to be drag during a set at Daytona Beach’s Welcome to Rockville Festival, that seemed at first to be a reaction to the series of controversial bills signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis recently that ban minors from attending drag shows. But the vocalist who often wears women’s clothes and bizarre costumes on stage later said the choice was personal, not political.

“I’ve been cross-dressing since long before these clickbait-junkie dupes were out of diapers,” he told The Messenger. “And that’s really all there is to it. I’m not a political fella — had nothing to do with Florida.”

Lewis Capaldi apologized to fans in a lengthy Instagram post on Monday (June 5) in which he revealed that he’s taking the next two weeks off to spend time at home with his family in the lead-up to the Glastonbury Festival later this month. Capaldi, 26, regretted to inform them that he was canceling upcoming planned shows in Glasgow, Dublin, London and Norway in the coming weeks to “rest and recover.”
“This is a really difficult message and one that hurts me a lot to have to type. But I’m really sorry to say that I’m going to have to cancel all commitments from now until I play Glastonbury,” he wrote of the festival that takes place from June 21-25 at Worthy Farm, with Capaldi slated to take the stage on the 24th. “It’s been such an incredible time leading into this new album, and seeing all of the support from everyone has been beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of,” he added.

“That said, the last few months have been full on both mentally and physically, I haven’t been home properly since Christmas and at the moment I’m struggling to get to grips with it all. I need to take a moment to rest and recover, to be at my best and ready for Glastonbury and all of the other incredible shows coming up so that I’m able to continue doing what I love for a long time to come.”

Capaldi, who has bee touring in support of his Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent album — which just notched a second week atop the U.K. album charts — said he needs to take some time over the next few weeks to be “Lewis from Glasgow for a bit,” and spend time with his family and friends and “do normal life things that are an important part of me feeling better. I hope everyone understands.”

The “Wish You the Best” singer has spoken in the past about the impact of fame on his mental health as well as his struggles with Tourette’s syndrome and panic attacks related to his rapid rise to the top of the charts, which were chronicled in his Netflix documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now.

The singer lamented the cost to fans who spent money on tickets, travel and hotels to the scotched shows, “which I appreciate more than ever with how difficult things are economically,” he wrote. “So I’m extremely sorry for the impact this will have,” he added. “The fact that you’re willing to come out and spend your time, money and love on these shows is beyond comprehension and I feel incredibly lucky.”

Lewis concluded by assuring fans that he’s getting “all the help and support” he needs from his team at this time. “I take none of this for granted and can’t wait to be back doing it again.”

Country Music Hall of Fame member George Strait set a new attendance record at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, venue American Family Field on Saturday (June 3), when Strait’s headlining concert brought in 46,641 attendees — the highest-ever attendance in the venue. The concert also featured Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town. American Family Field is home to major league baseball team the Milwaukee Brewers.

“We have been fortunate to have a number of fantastic shows at American Family Field since we opened our doors. Our expectations for George Strait, Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town were very high and those expectations were blown away,” Jason Hartlund, executive vp/chief commercial officer for the Milwaukee Brewers, said via a statement. “We set venue records for concert attendance and gross ticket revenue, among others. The Brewers have worked with Messina Touring Group for over a decade and have always enjoyed the relationship. We look forward to working together on many future shows [at] American Family Field.”

The Milwaukee show on June 3 is just the latest record-setting Strait has been doing recently: The accolade follows the recent record-setting attendance on May 27 at the Buckeye Country Superfest at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, which welcomed 63,891 attendees. Other artists on the Buckeye Country Superfest lineup were Stapleton, Little Big Town and Warren Zeiders.

Strait currently has eight additional concerts on the books for the rest of 2023, including a two-night stop at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, on July 28-29, an Aug. 5 show at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, as well as a double-header at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, on Nov. 17-18.

Strait’s most recent album, 2019’s Honky Tonk Time Machine, marked his 27th album to debut at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Country Albums chart. Strait previously noted to Billboard that he’s not ruling out a similar touring run in 2024, saying, “Whether or not we do it again the following year depends on how we all feel it went when we’re finished with these shows.”

Messina Group CEO Louis Messina, who has promoted Strait’s concerts for approximately three decades, also previously added that a short touring stint could possibly happen next year. “It depends upon how he likes it or doesn’t like it,” Messina said. “The good thing about George Strait is we can do anything that he wants to do.”

Before hitting the road last March, Coldplay set some very ambitious environmental goals for their massive Music of the Spheres world tour. Their overarching aim was to reduce the carbon footprint from their 2016/2017 Head Full of Dreams stadium tour by more than 50%.
In a statement on Friday (June 2), the band said that the Spheres tour has so far produced 47% less CO2e emissions than their last outing and that they’ve planted five million trees to date, or roughly one for every one of the seven million tickets sold so far.

“When we first announced the Music Of The Spheres Tour, we hoped to make it as environmentally beneficial as possible and reduce our direct carbon emissions (from show production, freight, band and crew travel) by 50%,” read the statement, which said the data has been independently assessed and validated by professor John E. Fernandez of the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative (ESI).

While the numbers are a “good start… and something that our incredible crew should be very proud of,” Coldplay said there is definitely still room for improvement. “Now that we’re into the second year of the tour, we’ve started to run the entire show (audio, lights, lasers etc) from an electric battery system that allows us to use 100% renewable energy as efficiently as possible,” it continued. “We have been using electric vehicles and alternative fuels wherever we can, as well as reducing waste and plastic usage to a minimum.”

They also thanked the crew that has allowed them to achieve their goals, as well as the fans who have helped power the stage batteries using the exercise bikes and kinetic dance floors, as well as those who’ve walked, used bicycles, ride shares or public transportation to get to the gigs, brought their own refillable water bottles and returned the LED wristbands after each concert.

“And just by coming you have had a tree planted, and helped a range of environmental organizations like The Ocean Cleanup and ClientEarth (a team of lawyers who defend the environment). Thank you all and hopefully this time next year we will have made big improvements.”

In an accompanying statement, MIT’s Fernandez added, “Based on a detailed review of the work of Coldplay’s sustainability team in assessing and advising the band and management on the CO2e impact of touring, we fully endorse this effort as critically important, scientifically rigorous and of the highest quality.

Fernandez said MIT ESI endorses the work Coldplay has done as an “important and substantive step toward a new era of eventually achieving carbon neutral music events by major artists. The band deserves significant praise in commissioning the work and acting as the vanguard for the global music industry as it begins to take seriously the reality of living and making music in the Anthropocene.”

Coldplay also shared a number of other environmental data points for the tour so far, including:

— The five million trees planted amount to 5,000 hectares of land restored across 17 countries and 21 planting projects.

— One solar-powered River Interceptor deployed in March 2021 in the Klang River in Malaysia with 158 tons of waste and 13 tons of ocean-bound plastic removed since the start of the tour.

— An 86% average return rate for the reusable, plant-based LED writstbands.

— 15kWh average power per show generation through in-show solar installations, kinetic dance floors and power bikes, which was enough to power the satellite stage performances each night and provide phone, laptop and tool-charging stations for the crew.

— 66% of all tour waste diverted from landfills.

— 3,770 meals and 73 kg of toiletries donated from tour catering to the unhoused.

— Financial support to environmental organizations including ClientEarth,The Ocean Cleanup, Climeworks, Sea Shepherd, Project Seagrass, Sustainable Food Trust, Cleaner Seas Group, Food Forest Project, Knowledge Pele, Conservation Collective and others

Taylor Swift brought her Eras Tour – which, so far, has seen arguably the biggest pop star on the planet playing to sold-out crowds on a trek that’s on track to net at least $590 million in ticket sales – to East Rutherford, New Jersey for a second night on Saturday (May 27). Aside from […]

Less than a day after releasing the expanded new version of her Billboard 200-topping album Midnights, Taylor Swift took the stage at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on Friday (May 26) for the first of three sold-out shows at the venue. Aside from a three-hour set full of massive hits and beloved deep cuts (which fans have come to expect on her blockbuster Eras Tour), Swift brought out a surprise guest who helped bring the night to a raucous close.
Ice Spice, who features on a remix of the kismet bop “Karma” from Midnights (Til Dawn Edition), came out at the end of the night to perform her verse alongside Swift.

The “Princess Diana” rapper made a royal entrance, emerging onstage from below. Ice and Swift strutted around the stage holding hands, with the rapper patting her hair confidently after delivering her verse. As confetti fell at the end of the concert, the pair had their arms around each other. Spice — who was raised in the Bronx, just across the Hudson River – seemed confident and in command as she played to the largest crowd of her burgeoning career.

Earlier in the night, Swift also surprised the crowd with the premiere of the cinematic music video for the remix, and when she introduced the visuals, she explained how the collab with Ice came together.

“At the very beginning of the year, when I was just starting to train for this tour, I got reached out to by Ice Spice,” Swift said. “She reached out and said, ‘If you’d ever like to do a collab, I would love to.’ And what she didn’t know at the time is that when I was training for the tour, I was listening to pretty much exclusively just her music every single day. All day. … So I said, ‘Absolutely, when can we do it?’ So we immediately went into the studio and I just not only fell in love with her, but just decided she’s the entire future. … I’ve been around so many artists and so many artists just starting out, but I’ve never been around an artist who’s so prepared and curious and focused on what she wants.”

Prior to the “Karma” remix dropping, Swift praised Ice Spice’s artistry: “I’m a massive fan of this brilliant artist and after getting to know her I can confirm: she is THE ONE to watch.”

Spice covered Billboard magazine earlier this month and talked about her rapid rise to fame over the last two years. “Right now, I’m focused on music,” she told Billboard. “I’m still learning a lot, to be honest. But I’m so happy I’ve put in that time and that work — because it’s paying off.”

Swift plays two more dates at MetLife Stadium as part of her Eras Tour, which Billboard Boxscore reports is on track to be the biggest selling tour of her career.

Céline Dion has once again been forced to cancel a wide swath of concert dates due to her ongoing battle with a rare neurological disease. On Friday morning (May 26) the singer posted a lengthy note to fans announcing that she is canceling the remaining European shows on her 2023-2024 European Courage Tour after previously rescheduling them.
“I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again. I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100%,” the singer said in a statement. “It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again. I want you all to know, I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!”

The affected dates included a planned run of 2023 shows in Amsterdam, Paris, Antwerp, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki that were slated to take place from late August to early October, as well as 23 European shows booked for March 6-April 22. Tickets purchased for the 42 canceled dates will be refunded through the original point of purchase.

The announcement noted that as the world has moved on after the COVID-19 lockdown, Celine has “continued to be treated for a diagnosed medical condition that prevents her from performing. Celine is working hard on her recovery, but at this time is unable to successfully prepare for and perform the remainder of the tour… We do have every hope that someday soon, Celine will be able to come to all of these cities in Europe to perform for her amazing fans, but that time simply is not now.”

Dion had performed the first 52 dates of the Courage tour in North America before the pandemic paused it in March 2020. She was then diagnosed with a rare condition called Stiff Person Syndrome, which her team said causes severe and persistent muscle spasms that have prevented her from performing.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, SPS is a rare neurological disorder that has features of an autoimmune disease. It is characterized by “fluctuating muscle rigidity in the trunk and limbs and a heightened sensitivity to stimuli such as noise, touch, and emotional distress, which can set off muscle spasms. Abnormal postures, often hunched over and stiffened, are characteristic of the disorder.” People with SPS can be too disabled to walk or move and may be “afraid to leave the house because street noises, such as the sound of a horn, can trigger spasms and falls.” According to the Institute, the disorder affects twice as many women as men and science does not yet understand what causes it.

In December 2022, Dion pushed all her 2023 dates into 2024, of canceled them entirely before initially vowing to reboot the European portion of the tour this summer.

Check out the affected dates below.
