Tony Hawk

Tony Hawk has taken to social media to lament the fact that Kurt Cobain isn’t alive to meet the grandchild they share.
In September 2024, it was announced that Hawk’s son Riley and Cobain’s daughter Frances Bean had given birth to a baby boy. “Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk,” Cobain wrote on social media, revealing her son’s birth date as Sept. 17. “Welcome to the world most beautiful son. We love you more than anything.”

While the couple’s 2023 marriage and subsequent parenthood was the dream pairing that ‘90s kids the world over could have hoped for, it also resulted in the newborn boasting two of the decade’s most iconic and influential figures as his grandfathers.

Now in his own post on social media, Tony Hawk has reflected on the impact that Kurt Cobain had upon his life, reflecting on a Nirvana gig he once attended and sharing his desire that Cobain could have met their shared grandson.

Hawk’s post was shared to Instagram Stories over the weekend and featured a ticket stub to an Oct. 20, 1991 Nirvana concert at the long-gone Houston, TX venue The Vatican. According to Hawk, he was in the area for a skateboarding competition and went directly from the event to the show.

“It was as transformative as live music can possibly be,” Hawk wrote of the gig. “We all experienced something rare and powerful that night. The world would never be the same.”

The event itself took place right on the cusp of Nirvana’s massive global takeover. Priced at just $10, the show took place just shy of four weeks after the seminal grunge outfit had released their breakthrough album, Nevermind. Just under three months later, the record would topple Michael Jackson’s Dangerous to claim the top spot on the Billboard 200, and swiftly turning the group into household names.

“I wish Kurt were here so he could see the incredible woman his daughter has become, meet her devoted, caring husband, and hold our wondrous grandchild,” Hawk added to his post.

Both Nirvana and Tony Hawk have found themselves at the forefront of the news cycle recently. While the surviving members of Nirvana performed separate reunion sets with celebrity vocalists for the FireAid LA Benefit Concert and Saturday Night Live’s SNL50: The Homecoming Concert, Hawk’s eponymous video game series has been the talk of the gaming world thanks to rumors of a new volume to be announced next week.

Is there a new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game coming? Based on recent developments, it sure seems so.
Speculation for a new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game began when an update in Call of Duty Black Ops 6 teased the return of the beloved skateboarding video game franchise.

Eagle-eyed COD players spotted the THPS Easter egg in a new skatepark map called The Grind. The map featured a banner with the game’s logo and the date “03.04.25.”

Then, the official THPS website launched a countdown clock that is currently counting down to March 4, 2025, signaling that some big news is upon us.
So what exactly could be coming? According to Gamespot, there could be two offerings from Activision, either a remake like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 or a brand new game altogether.
Per Gamespot:
If there’s news coming soon regarding the future of THPS, there are two likely options. The first is another remake like 2020’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, which helped revitalize interest in the games. There have been some predictions that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 could follow. However, a more enticing prospect would be a brand-new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. The last fully original game in the series to hit consoles was 2015’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. Additionally, there was a previous report that the next Tony Hawk game could arrive as soon as this summer. Given the timing of the announcement, that seems very plausible.
It’s been a long time since fans of THPS picked up the sticks for a new game in the franchise that first arrived in 1999.  The 25th anniversary of the game has already passed, but the legendary skateboarder revealed that he has been in contact with Activision to work on something celebrating the game’s milestone while adding that the skateboarding video game franchise will continue.
We don’t know about y’all, but consider us very hyped about this news.

Tony Hawk is as much a pop culture icon as any, so it goes without saying that he’s crossed paths with plenty of others with the level of fame that he has, if not more. The skating legend recently shared a rare photo alongside the late Tupac “2Pac” Shakur that Hawk had digitally restored.
Tony Hawk, 55, shared the image of him and 2Pac, telling a story of how he attended an American Music Awards ceremony because his sister was performing with singer Michael Bolton. While he initially stated that the year of the photo in question was 1991, he corrected it and said that it could be from 1994.

From Tony Hawk’s IG:

I attended the American Music Awards in 1991 because my sister was there performing with Michael Bolton. While backstage, I saw Tupac standing alone and I recognized him from Digital Underground (go listen to “Same Song” for context). His first album had not dropped yet, and nobody else seemed to notice him. I took a picture of him and [Riley’s mom] Cindy, and I thought she took one of him and me. This was in the era of point-and-shoot film cameras so results were unreliable. Unfortunately I never found the photo once the roll was developed. But thanks to modern technology and maestro digital artist @_vemix_ , the image has materialized.
Hawk went on to say that 2Pac was “effusive and gracious” after meeting briefly, adding that he was the most gracious with his time out of the celebrities he met at the time. Later in the caption of the post, Hawk corrected the timeline to say the photo might be from the 1994 AMAs. If the photo was taken in 1991, 2Pac made his debut in the fall of that year with the album, 2Pacalypse Now.
