Watch SEVENTEEN Bring the ‘Thunder’ to ‘Kelly Clarkson Show’ Performance

SEVENTEEN found their way back to The Kelly Clarkson Show on Wednesday (June 4) to perform “Thunder,” the lead single from their just-released fifth studio album Happy Burstday.

The off-site performance takes place in an industrial warehouse, and it starts with THE 8 answering a ringing payphone branded with the logo of The Kelly Clarkson Show. He’s then surrounded by his 12 other bandmates — S.COUPS, JEONGHAN, JOSHUA, JUN, HOSHI, WONWOO, WOOZI, MINGYU, DK, SEUNGKWAN, VERNON and DINO — as they quite literally answer the call to give a bombastic performance on Clarkson’s daytime talk show.

Each of the group’s three units — hip-hop, vocal and dance — are spotlighted throughout the performance, as the 13 members switch places throughout to put different artists center stage for the stomping choreography in the wide open space.

For her introduction, Clarkson called SEVENTEEN “a K-pop performance powerhouse” — and she’s had a front-row seat to this powerhouse before. Back in January 2021, the group hit Clarkson’s show for the U.S. debut performance of their 2020 hit single “Left & Right.”

Happy Burstday, which was released last month to celebrate SEVENTEEN’s 10th anniversary, includes solo songs from all 13 members for the first time, as well as three group tracks: “Thunder,” “HBD” and the Pharrell-produced “Bad Influence.” Timbaland also produced on the project. Kelly Clarkson Totally Nails the Ultimate Karaoke Ballad ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ for Kellyoke

In her seventh season of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the pop-star host finally covered Bonnie Tyler‘s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” — a song that many consider to be the ultimate karaoke ballad — for her popular Kellyoke segment.

Clarkson stayed true to the 1983 original for her two-minute cover on Thursday’s (May 29) episode, getting a boost from backup singer (and the daytime talk show’s vocal director) Jessi Collins on the essential “turn around” interjections.

“Total Eclipse of the Heart” — written by late composer, lyricist and record producer Jim Steinman — was a four-week No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for Tyler and was nominated at the 1984 Grammys for best female pop vocal performance.

In the Billboard staff’s list of the 100 Best Karaoke Songs of All Time, “Eclipse” stands alone as the only solo ballad in the top 10, sitting at No. 9. (Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born duet “Shallow” is the only other ballad in the top 10.) As Billboard‘s Jason Lipshutz wrote for the list, “If your karaoke night ends with ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart,’ it’s been a good night.”

Tyler’s enduring hit returned to national prominence back in August 2017 following a total solar eclipse that passed across the United States, breaking onto Billboard‘s Digital Song Sales chart for the first time with 31,000 digital downloads sold — up 546 percent from the previous week. To capitalize on the song’s surge in popularity, Tyler performed “Eclipse” on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship on Aug. 21, 2017, in the Caribbean Sea, with the Joe Jonas-fronted DNCE as her backing band.

Lea Michele Gives ‘Drivers License’ a ‘Glee’-Worthy Kellyoke Makeover

Buckle up, Gleeks, because Rachel Berry finally got her “Drivers License.”

That’s right: Lea Michele stopped by The Kelly Clarkson Show on Thursday (May 22) to deliver a stunning cover of Olivia Rodrigo‘s seminal debut single.

Donning a ruched ivory jumpsuit, the star channeled her Glee character’s famous sense of melodrama as she belted out the eight-week No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit, singing, “You’re probably with that blonde girl who always made me doubt/ She’s so much older than me, she’s everything I’m insecure about/ Yeah, today I drove through the suburbs, ’cause how could I ever love someone else?” (Of course, if this was the early days of Glee, Michele-as-Berry would almost certainly be referring to Dianna Agron’s Quinn Fabray, right?)

Following the number, Michele shared with host Kelly Clarkson that her cover was, in fact, directly inspired by her iconic TV persona.

“I’m on tour right now, and I’m singing a lot of songs from Glee and from Broadway,” she explained. “But I do this section in my show, so it’s: ‘If Glee were on television right now, what would Rachel Berry be singing?’ And the minute I heard ‘Drivers License,’ I was like, ‘That’s such a Rachel Berry song.’”

After revealing that the cast of Glee did “over 800 songs” during the course of six seasons on the Fox series, Michele also teased that she has “something exciting coming up,” but didn’t give fans any further details besides the fact that she’d be announcing the secret project “very soon.”

Lizzo & Kelly Clarkson Turn ‘Still Bad’ Into a Kellyoke Duet

Kelly Clarkson kicked off The Kelly Clarkson Show on Thursday (May 15) by performing “Still Bad” with help from Lizzo herself.

The R&B star opened the number with Clarkson ably handling harmony duty on the first verse before the pair launched into the track’s celebratory chorus in unison, singing, “I don’t need him, I need a drink/ Let’s turn this pain into some champagne, baby/ Like cheers, bi—, it’s been a day/ Might take that last flight out to Vegas, what y’all think?”

For the second verse of the breakup anthem, Lizzo cedes the floor to the talk show host with a tossed-off “Tell ’em, Kelly!” At which point America’s original idol swaggers, “Plot twist: I’m doing great/ I make that been-through sh– look sexy anyway/ I don’t need him, I need to throw ass, been a minute/ Break fast with my bi—es/ Real love, real life, damn, I’ve been missing.”

“Still Bad” serves as the latest single from Lizzo’s upcoming fifth studio album, Love in Real Life, which is set to drop sometime later this year. Kelly Clarkson Tells Fans She’s ‘Bummed’ Her Talk Show Stops Her From Touring During NJ Concert

Kelly Clarkson is getting candid with fans about why she hasn’t been hitting the road lately.

During her concert in Atlantic City, N.J., on Friday (May 9), the 43-year-old pop star and TV personality told the crowd that touring isn’t realistic right now due to the demanding schedule of The Kelly Clarkson Show.

“We haven’t done a show in a while, y’all, ’cause I have a talk show. It’s like a whole other job,” Clarkson said, referencing her band, according to Page Six. The Grammy winner also noted that being a single mother takes up much of her time.

Still, Clarkson expressed gratitude for the opportunity to perform two nights at Atlantic City’s Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena — her first live shows in nearly six months.

“We are bummed ’cause we love doing shows, and it’s hard to fit it in, so it’s cool when it does work out with the schedule,” the American Idol alum told the audience. “And it’s cool to get to see your faces and feed off y’all. Thank you so much for having so much energy.”

Her 90-minute set included fan-favorite hits such as “My Life Would Suck Without You,” “Because of You,” “Breakaway,” “Miss Independent,” “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and “Since U Been Gone.” It marked her first full-length concert since November 2024.

Clarkson hasn’t embarked on a full tour since 2019. In the years since, she has booked Las Vegas residencies — including shows at PH Live at Planet Hollywood in 2023 and 2024. Earlier this year, she announced a new Vegas residency, Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions, at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The show opens July 4 and runs through July and August, with additional dates scheduled for November.

In March, Clarkson celebrated the milestone 1,000th episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. The daytime program, which launched in 2019, was renewed by NBC Owned Television Stations for a seventh season in December 2024. Her contract is set to expire next year, Page Six reports.

The show has earned 22 Daytime Emmy Awards, including eight individual wins for Clarkson herself. Most recently, it won outstanding daytime talk series for the fourth consecutive year at the 2024 Daytime Emmys.

Now in its sixth season, The Kelly Clarkson Show averages 1.2 million viewers per day and remains one of the top syndicated talk shows in the country, airing on more than 200 stations nationwide.

Kelly Clarkson Wants to Be Stuck on a Desert Island With This Fellow ‘American Idol’ Star

When it comes to the prospect of being trapped on a deserted island, Kelly Clarkson would want to be with a fellow American Idol alum.

The hypothetical scenario came up on Thursday’s episode (May 1) of The Kelly Clarkson Show during a round of “Playing Dice With God,” with guests Tina Fey and Will Forte.

Bathed in the studio’s heavenly light, the American Idol winner’s roll of the dice landed on the “Personal” category, prompting the unseen announcer (i.e. “God”) to ask, “If you had to be stranded on an island with one former famous co-worker, who would you choose and why?”

Without skipping a beat, Clarkson answered, “I’m gonna say — she seems like a fun hang for a while — so I’m gonna say J-Hud. I’m gonna say Jennifer Hudson.”

The two stars never crossed paths on Idol: Clarkson won the inaugural season in 2002, while the future EGOT was shockingly eliminated in seventh place two years later in one of the most controversial voting results in the show’s history. However, they did end up working together — and competing against one another — as coaches on The Voice more than a decade later. (In season 15, Clarkson took home her second consecutive win thanks to Cheval Shepherd’s victory; Team J-Hud’s Kennedy Holmes ultimately came in fourth place.)

Since they spent time in NBC’s famous spinning chairs, Hudson has also joined her Idol predecessor in the daytime-TV trenches by launching her eponymous talk show The Jennifer Hudson Show in 2022.

Kelly Clarkson’s Musical Director Reveals Which of Her (Incredibly Popular) Songs Is His Least Favorite

Kelly Clarkson can make a wish, take a chance and make a change, but one of her most beloved hits will still be her musical director’s least favorite.

On an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show guest-hosted by Andy Cohen on Monday (April 21), Jason Halbert — who oversees all things music on the talk show, including the host’s live Kellyoke cover series — got candid when the Watch What Happens Live TV personality cheekily challenged his loyalty. “While I’m here, this is my studio, kind of, maybe, for an hour,” Cohen began.

“So Jason, I’ll give you $20 if you tell me your least favorite Kelly Clarkson song,” he continued as audience members gasped.

After a little bit of hemming and hawing, Halbert confessed. “Unpopular opinion: ‘Breakaway,’” he said, hiding his face behind his hands.

Unpopular opinion indeed. Released two decades ago, the track remains one of Clarkson’s biggest hits to date, peaking at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was also ranked No. 39 on Billboard‘s Best Songs of 2004 staff list.

In addition to the countless times she’s performed it live over the years, the “Stronger” vocalist also sang “Breakaway” with guest Sam Smith on an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show a few years ago — featuring Halbert on keys. Clarkson and her band have been putting on live performances like that for audiences ever since her talk show kicked off in 2019, but one of them sticks out to Halbert as the hardest to learn: “For me, it was the Mister Rogers theme song,” he told Cohen on the Monday episode.

Sheryl Crow Says This Kelly Clarkson Performance of ‘All I Wanna Do’ Is ‘Better Than Mine’

All Sheryl Crow wants to do is listen to Kelly Clarkson‘s new cover of “All I Wanna Do” on repeat.

After the talk-show host sang a gorgeous rendition of the early ’90s hit for the latest installment of The Kelly Clarkson Show‘s Kellyoke segment, the guitarist had nothing but praise when commenting on a video of the performance on Instagram. “Good grief @kellyclarkson could sing the damn phone book!” Crow wrote Tuesday (April 8).

The “If It Makes You Happy” musician added, “I love this version better than mine!!”

For her performance, Clarkson sported a Buffalo Bills jacket — a nod to that day’s guest, Hailee Steinfeld, who is engaged to quarterback Josh Allen — and kept her vocal arrangement free of any of her signature high notes or riffs, letting the humor of Crow’s lyrics speak for itself. “‘All I wanna do is have a little fun before I die’/ Says the man next to me out of nowhere/ It’s apropos of nothing, he says his name is William/ I’m sure he’s Bill or Billy or Mac or Buddy/ And he’s plain ugly to me,” she sang, adding a little sassy flair to certain lines as her band jammed out on stage behind her.

“‘Cause all I wanna do is have some fun/ I got a feeling I’m not the only one.”

Right after she got off stage, Clarkson gushed to the crowd, “I’m such a fan [of Crow], she’s been such a cool artist to me from the beginning — such a fan of hers.”

Released in 1993 on Crow’s debut studio album, Tuesday Night Music Club, “All I Wanna Do” helped launch the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer to superstardom. Reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, the track won both record of the year and best female pop vocal performance at the 1994 Grammys.

Crow has since released 11 more albums, with her 12th effort, Evolution, arriving in March last year.

Kelly Clarkson Says She ‘Lost a Lot’ But ‘Found Comfort’ With Her Fans While Celebrating 1000th Episode of Talk Show

Kelly Clarkson is celebrating 1000 episodes of her popular daytime talk show, and is thanking fans for giving her comfort over the past five years of The Kelly Clarkson Show.

“Our show premiered on September 9, 2019, with the help of some great friends,” she said at the beginning of the episode. “Over the next five and a half years, we have made 999 episodes. I cannot believe this marks the 1000th. We have met some hugely talented people, tons of big stars and inspiring everyday heroes. We created a community and supported each other through lots of ups and downs — lots of ups and downs personally as well. We went through a pandemic together. We sent our audience to London, to Australia and through the NBC gift shop here at 30 Rock.”

She continued, “For 1000 episodes, we have laughed together, we have cried together with some beautiful stories, sang together with some people, danced together, celebrated and competed together. I’ve lost alone a lot –it’s OK — and along the way we found comfort in one another. Looking back, we’re all incredibly proud at what we’ve built and what we created. ”

Since its launch in 2019, The Kelly Clarkson Show has collected 22 Daytime Emmys. Clarkson has won personally won eight of those awards, andThe Kelly Clarkson Show most recently won outstanding daytime talk series for the fourth consecutive year at the 2024 Daytime Emmys.

Kelly Clarkson Gets Freaky With Explosive Cover of Chappell Roan’s ‘Red Wine Supernova’: Watch

On a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Kelly Clarkson‘s star power exploded as she covered Chappell Roan‘s “Red Wine Supernova.”

In lieu of a miniskirt and go-go boots, the vocalist looked chic in a black blazer while standing on stage with her band Thursday (Jan. 16), immediately bringing energy to the Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess track’s hot-and-heavy opening verse. “She was a Playboy, Brigitte Bardot/ She showed me things I didn’t know,” Clarkson sang percussively. “She did it right there, out on the deck/ Put her canine teeth in the side of my neck.”

The talk-show host went on to belt out Roan’s soaring chorus to perfection before hammering out the track’s NSFW bridge. “I heard you like magic/ I’ve got a wand and a rabbit,” Clarkson sang with a knowing smile. “So baby, let’s get freaky, get kinky/ Let’s make this bed get squeaky.”

“Red Wine Supernova” is just one of several runaway hits on Roan’s 2023 debut album, which ascended to No. 2 on the Billboard 200 nearly a full year after its release in August. The dance track peaked at No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 that same month, and five other songs on the LP — “My Kink Is Karma,” “Casual,” “Femininomenon,” “Hot to Go” and “Pink Pony Club” — also entered the chart last year.

The performance is just the latest time Clarkson has covered a Roan track for her show’s Kellyoke segment. In September, the former The Voice coach put her own spin on the Missouri native’s “Coffee,” followed by “Pink Pony Club” in November.

Clarkson and Miranda Lambert also joined forces on a brief cover of the 26-year-old star’s breakthrough hit “Good Luck, Babe!” last year. “Her voice is insane,” the “Stronger” singer said of Roan at the time. “Her range, how she goes from head voice to chest voice.”
