Team USA

Team USA‘s Women’s basketball team survived a thriller in their gold medal contest against Team France, and it was far closer than the Team USA Men’s basketball gold medal game. With the victory, the Women’s team became the first team in any sport to win eight consecutive gold medals.
With some of the WNBA’s best talent on the squad, Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson led the team with 21 pints and 13 boards to go along with four crucial blocks. They needed all they could get from Wilson as France’s Gabby Williams, a former WNBA player and past collegiate champion with the University of Connecticut. Williams led the charge for Team France, who wouldn’t go away, and nearly tied the game up at the buzzer with a last-second heave but it was ruled a two-point shot.

From NBC Olympics:

Not without a whole lot of agita first, though. Less than 24 hours after these countries’ men’s teams delivered a fourth quarter for the ages, the women did the same, with six ties and six lead changes over the final 10 minutes of play. France had an answer every time the U.S. looked primed to make a run, taking a two-point lead with just 5:03 to go. But Copper poured in four straight points to put Team USA back ahead, and Wilson hit a circus jumper to stretch the lead to three.
It seemed like the U.S. had finally put things away when Plum cashed two free throws to go up 65-61 with just 11 seconds left. But then Williams almost pulled off a final flurry for the ages, hitting one quick 3 to keep France alive and then, after two more free throws, getting a heave to go that very nearly forced overtime.
It was one of the better sporting events to take place at the 2024 Summer Olympics and proved that the world is indeed catching up with the American basketball stars on both sides. Kudos to Team France for an exciting finish.

Veronica Fraley is currently living out her dreams as a part of Team USA’s Track and Field team at the 2024 Summer Olympics. However, the 2024 NCAA discus champion expressed that she was struggling to pay her rent which caught the eye of Flava Flav and Alexis Ohanian.
On Thursday (August 1), Veronica Fraley took to X, formerly Twitter, to share with her followers that her school, Vanderbilt University, didn’t send her the full percentage of her rent as she attempted to figure out how to make up the rest.

“I compete in the Olympic Games TOMORROW and can’t even pay my rent my school only sent about 75% of my rent while they pay football players (who haven’t won anything) enough to buy new cars and houses,” Fraley wrote.
Flava Flav, who has shown amazing charity and support for all things Team USA, reached out to Fraley and said that he’d cover the costs.
“I gotchu,,, DM me and I’ll send payment TODAY so you don’t have to worry bout it TOMORROW,,, and imma be rooting for ya tomorrow LETZ GO,!!!” Flav added.
Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit and husband of tennis legend Serena Williams, chimed in and said he’d split the costs with Flav.
“C’mon now! I’ll split it with @flavorfav, Ohanian wrote in a reply.
Both Flav and Ohanian showed proof that they paid Fraley, with Flav saying he’ll come and watch her compete in the discus event.

When a fan inquired why Ohanian paid $7,7600 to Fraley, he kindly explained that there was a deeper reason.

Salute to Flava Flav and Alexis Ohanian for putting their money where the mouth is. Best of luck to Veronica Fraley in her quest to capture Olympic gold.

Kendrick Lamar‘s smash hit diss record “Not Like Us” continues to be one of the hottest records in the streets, but it seems like some people are tired of hearing it and no, it’s not Drake.

According to TMZ, NBA superstar Steph Curry has just about had it with the classic Hip-Hop diss record and let as much be known while practicing with his USA teammates in Paris earlier this week. While getting ready to play a pre-Olympics game with Serbia in Abu Dhabi, the song blasted through the speakers, which led Steph to say, “Damn with this song! It’s not the only song in America!” which prompted LeBron James to say, “I love it.”

LeBron just lost Drake as a fan.

Regardless of how Steph might’ve felt, he went to put on a show in the game as he dropped a team-high 24 points as Team USA routed Nikola Jokic‘s team by 26, with the final score being 105-79.
Team USA might not lose a single game during this summer’s Olympics in Paris.
That being said, Steph should expect “Not Like Us” to get played to death as the DJ is sure to be sending the world a message that not a single professional basketball team out there is anything like the one that America has.
And best believe when he and Team USA return home later this summer that song will still be going hard out on these streets as no one seems to be able to get enough of it. He might want to stay home for a while if he wants to avoid hearing it anymore. At least till mid-2025.
What do y’all think of Steph’s reaction to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”? Has the song gotten too much burn already? Let us know in the comments section below.

The Men’s U.S. Basketball team for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris is being rounded out. Some of your favorite NBA superstars will be partaking in the event this summer while others will remain in America to cheer on their professional peers from the comfort of their own homes.

According to ESPN, Team USA will be featuring some of today’s icons and legends on the roster as the likes of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Joel Embiid will be taking the court to represent the red, white and blue. Pacing on the sidelines to coach the upcoming superstar roster will be the Golden State Warriors head coach, Steve Kerr. Kerr’s no stranger to leading his team to the promised land as he’s helped his Warriors bring home four NBA Championships but has no Olympic gold in his illustrious trophy room. (The man also won a few championship rings alongside the GOAT, Michael Jordan).

The rest of the roster will feature some pretty big names who’ve been making much noise this season and seem Hall of Fame bound when it’s all said and done.
ESPN reports:
U.S. basketball is planning to formally announce this 11-man roster that also includes Lakers forward Anthony Davis, Suns guard Devin Booker, Minnesota guard Anthony Edwards, Boston forward Jayson Tatum, Boston guard Jrue Holiday, Miami center Bam Adebayo and Indiana guard Tyrese Haliburton, sources said.
James is playing in his fourth Olympics, a career that includes a bronze medal in 2004 and gold medals in 2008 and 2012.
Haliburton and Edwards are the only players from the non-medalist 2023 FIBA World Cup team who were selected for the Olympic Games.
Naturally, Knick fans were outraged that the team’s MVP, Jalen Brunson, wasn’t added to the team given the standout year that he’s been having thus far. Averaging 28.7 PPG and 6.7 assists per game, Brunson has carried an injury ridden Knicks team to its first 50-win season in more than a decade while helping them secure the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.
But with Team USA managing director Grant Hill keeping one roster slot open ahead of a July training camp and exhibition games in Las Vegas, Brunson might just make the cut. But we’ll just have to wait and see.
What do y’all think of Team USA’s current roster? Who would you add or replace? Let us know in the comments section below.
