It looks like Superman won’t be flying solo when James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy hits theaters in 2025 as he’ll be having a special friend by his side who’ll be making his own cinematic debut after only existing on print for decades.

According to Deadline, Krypto, the Superdog, is primed and ready to help Superman save the world as Gunn shared the first image of the super-powered K-9 sitting next to the Man of Steel on X yesterday (Oct. 15). While fans didn’t even know Krypto was going to be a part of Gunn’s rebooted DCU, it was welcomed news as the character is beloved and has even gotten his own animated series on Cartoon Network back in 2005. Taking to social media to break the news, Gunn explained how his own rescue dog, Ozu, became the inspiration for Krypto’s involvement in the film as Ozu destroyed almost everything in his home after he was adopted.

Once he saw the kind of havoc a puppy who wasn’t housebroken yet could do, Gunn wondered “’Gosh, how difficult would life be if Ozu had superpowers?’ – and thus Krypto came into the script and changed the shape of the story as Ozu was changing my life.”‘

Krypto arrives on screens in Superman this summer. Krypto was inspired by our dog Ozu, who we adopted shortly after I started writing Superman. Ozu, who came from a hoarding situation in a backyard with 60 other dogs & never knew human beings, was problematic to say the least. He… pic.twitter.com/zw8rVqv0n0

For those who aren’t familiar with Krypto, let’s just say you won’t be mad at the character’s involvement in the upcoming Superman film.
Deadline reports:
In the series, Krypto was Superman’s pet puppy on Krypton before being sent into space before the planet was destroyed. Upon landing on Earth he is a fully grown dog who has similar abilities to those of Superman. Krypto is adopted by 9-year-old Kevin Whitney, whose family thinks Krypto is an ordinary Labrador retriever. But the canine dons the secret identity “Superdog” when he performs heroic deeds and fights evil. Other than Kevin, the only person who knows Krypto’s secret is bratty cousin Bailey, who lies so often that nobody believes his talk about the dog’s powers.
Gunn’s Superman follows the superhero of the same name as he looks to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

Whether they go with the dog’s original origin story remains to be seen, but we’re definitely looking forward to see how Gunn incorporates Supes having a super pet for the first time on the silver screen. We’re sure it’ll be for comic relief, but we know he’ll do some pretty super stuff here and there.

On Monday (May 6), comic book fans got their first look at James Gunn’s new iteration of Superman and truth be told, we still prefer Henry Cavill (no shots).

According to Variety, James Gunn gave fans a sneak peak of what he has in store for us as he took to Threads to show David Corenswet in full Superman attire with some cosmic action going down in the background.

Sporting a collar on what seems like a battle tested garment, the new Superman suit seems to be more loose fitting than the ones previous actors have worn in past Superman films but we know that Corenswet has been putting in that work in the gym to become the new man of steel. While fans are still heartbroken that Henry Cavill was replaced when James Gunn took over the DC cinematic universe a few years back, it will be interesting to see if David Corenswet can silence his naysayers with a stellar performance in Gunn’s upcoming film Superman: Legacy.
Variety reports:
Corenswet is getting the big break of a lifetime as the star of “Superman,” which marks his first time leading a major Hollywood tentpole film. The 30-year-old actor is best known for his supporting roles in two Ryan Murphy-created Netflix series, “The Politician” and “Hollywood.” His most notable film role prior to “Superman” was probably “Pearl,” the Ti West-directed horror movie starring Mia Goth.
Starring opposite Corenswet in “Superman” is “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult is taking on the role of Superman’s infamous villain Lex Luthor, while Gunn’s cast also includes Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl) and more.

After a long and tedious process, a new Superman has finally been chosen to lead James Gunn’s new and revamped DC cinematic universe and the choice might surprise you.

According to Deadline, James Gunn handpicked David Corenswet to play the next Man of Steel in his highly-anticipated Superman: Legacy film and also announced that Rachel Brosnahan will be taking on the role of his boo, Lois Lane. Truth be told the role of Lois Lane could’ve been given to any white woman at this point as comic book fans have been eagerly awaiting to see who would be anointed the next last son of Krypton post-Henry Cavill. Surprisingly enough, Corenswet basically looks like a much younger version of his predecessor.
Y’all know Cavill somewhere right now punching air wishing he was 15 years younger.
Deadline reports:

The decision comes after the two were among the few selected to test in front of DC co-chairs Peter Safran and Gunn (who is directing) in full costume and makeup for the parts.
The tests took place over two days with the men; one of the days saw the three actors in full Superman attire. Sources close to the situation said that each actor had closed test deals that would expire after two business weeks, so clearly all parties wanted this sorted out before a potential SAG-AFTRA strike, which could go into effect at midnight June 30.
Okay, two down and two to go. Now that we know who Superman and Lois Lane will be, rumors have been swirling that Gunn is choosing between brothers, Alexander and Bill Skarsgård to play Superman’s arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor while Chris Pratt is rumored to be joining the film as Jimmy Olsen. As of now these are just rumors but truth be told, we wouldn’t be mad at a cast revolving around these four.
Whether or not David Corenswet can fill the big shoes that Henry Cavill left behind (with a single solo Superman movie by the way) remains to be seen but don’t be surprised if hardcore Cavill fans refuse to give the man his props regardless of how good he may turn out to be. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until July 11, 2025 to find out.
