Idris Elba is urging United Kingdom officials to get tougher on so-called “zombie” knives in the wake of a spate of stabbings across London and the wider region. The celebrated actor is spearheading a campaign that hopes to quell knife crime.
Idris Elba sat down with BBC Radio 4 for a discussion where he spoke about his Don’t Stop Your Future campaign and expressed that he’s using his platform and ability to get messages spread wide to call on the government to crack down on zombie knives.

For those unaware, zombie knives feature a serrated edge, a cutting edge, and violent words and imagery emblazoned upon them. The zombie style is also seen in machetes as well.
Per the BBC, Elba, 51, attended a demonstration at Parliament Square on Monday (June 8) where the victims of stabbings were represented by way of clothes laid out on a lawn. The hope is to gain the attention of Members of Parliament (MPs) returning from the holiday recess.
More from BBC:
The actor told the BBC a planned change to the law, which would introduce the ban, needs to be fast-tracked.
He accused politicians of not giving the issue “the focus it deserves”.
The Home Office said on Monday in a statement it “will not hesitate to do more to keep our streets safe”.
It said bans on zombie and cyclone knives are already in place “and work under way to extend this to include zombie-style machetes”.
Idris Elba is set to release a new music single titled “Knives Down” with the backing of his Don’t Stop Your Future campaign.

Shannon Stillwell, a defendant in the YSL RICO trial, was stabbed multiple times in Fulton County Jail with reports going wide that the trial would be delayed. The jury in the trial was dismissed early on Monday (December 10) in connection to the stabbing incident.
FOX 5 Atlanta reports that Shannon Stillwell, also known as Shannon Brown or “SB,” was stabbed by inmate Willie Brown several times after the pair got into a fight. Officials are unaware of what started the fight but what has come out is that Brown is in jail for several violent crimes, including murder, and is being held without bond.

Stillwell is one of five defendants connected to the murder of Donovan Thomas Jr., who was shot and killed in 2015. Thomas was believed to be part of a rival gang to YSL with prosecutors claiming Young Thug rented the vehicle used for the drive-by shooting that also left a teen boy harmed.
According to reports, Stillwell is said to be in stable condition and his attorney assured that their side will not look for a delay in the trial as his client recovers.
“Out of respect for Shannon’s privacy, I will not go into specifics about his health other than to say that I was happy to be able to see him and converse with him this afternoon,” the attorney said. “I encouraged him to rest, as he will need to be strong as we continue to fight the false allegations contained in the RICO indictment. We have never and will not be asking for a delay in this trial, but also recognize that the doctors will let us know what is best for Shannon in the immediate future. I hope to reunite Shannon with his family and loved ones in short order.”

Blueface is apparently down but not for the count. The rapper was reportedly stabbed during an altercation at a boxing gym.

As spotted on Deadline the rapper has been training for an upcoming boxing match. On Wednesday, August 24 while practicing on the heavy bag at Kaminsky Boxing Gym in Reseda, California he was approached by a man unknown to him. The security camera at the facility captured the incident and showed the individual approaching the “Hello” rapper with combative energy. It seems Blueface was not taking him seriously until said man stayed in front of him prompting the self proclaimed Dirt Bag to throw hands.

After taking some punches the man reached into his pocket and pulls out what appears to be a knife. While the video does not show the stabbing, Blueface confirmed that he got cut on his Instagram. “I won’t be able to fight October 14th, I was stabbed today by some random guy. Won’t heal up in time.” His trainer David Kaminsky told TMZ that the suspect came into the gym yelling, “I’m gonna kill you.” The man is reported to have left the scene in a black Tesla Model S car with no license plates. Blueface was taken to a local medical facility for treatment.

Subway crime in New York City has been steadily getting worse over the past few years. And just when it seemed to be dying down, things now seem to be heating up in the beginning of the summer months.

According to Gothamist, this weekend saw five slashings and stabbings take place in the subway system, which included four incidents taking place near or on the 4 train. To make matters worse, one of the most serious violators is still on the loose as police haven’t been able to track him down.
The Gothamist reports:

Police are searching for a man who reportedly slashed three women in two separate locations along the 4-line, late Sunday afternoon. The three victims were transported to the hospital and one is being treated for a severe injury, police said Monday.
At around 4 p.m. Sunday, the suspect slashed a 19-year-old woman on the leg as she departed the 4 train at the 86th Street and Lexington Ave station on the Upper East Side, police said. Moments later, cops say he slashed another 48-year-old woman on the leg before boarding a southbound 4 train and slashing a 28-year-old woman, 15 minutes later.
Then, on Sunday morning, police found 32-year-old Bronx resident Tavon Silver stabbed to death on a southbound 4 train at Union Square after responding to a 9-1-1 call of a man slumped over in the cart.
But it doesn’t stop there as a 31-year-old was stabbed in the chest on a Manhattan-bound J train on Sunday (June 18), at 2 a.m.
More from Gothamist:
As of Sunday, the J train victim was in stable condition recovering at Kings County Hospital and no arrests had been made in any of the stabbings.
Police are requesting that anyone with information on the incidents call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
Be safe out on the train, y’all.
