The Ruffles NBA All-Star Celebrity Game has long been a staple of All-Star Weekend, and the NBA revealed the rosters and coaches on Tuesday (Feb. 4) for the 2025 game coming to The Bay set for next Friday (Feb. 14). 2 Chainz and San Francisco 49ers legend Jerry Rice will run the sidelines as coaches […]

Matthew McConaughey has a conspiracy theory about football that dates back hundreds of years — and he’s recruiting Charli XCX, Martha Stewart and more stars to convince people it’s true in a hilarious Super Bowl commercial for Uber Eats.
Premiering Tuesday (Feb. 4), the 90-second spot — which will air during the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles game on Sunday (Feb. 9) — opens with the Interstellar star telling viewers, “From the very beginning, football has been a conspiracy to make us hungry.”

He then defends his thesis by starring in flashbacks to important moments in his version of football history, including the inception of the “pigskin” nickname — to “make people crave bacon,” as McConaughey and costar Kevin Bacon explain to a group of players in the 1800s — and the decision to name the Green Bay Packers after meatpackers, while their fans are called “cheeseheads.” At one point, Hot Ones host Sean Evans makes a fitting cameo as he and the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days actor decide on the Buffalo Bills’ team name over a plate of Buffalo wings.

Flash forward to 2025, and McConaughey says that the Super Bowl gods “aren’t even hiding it anymore.” Presiding over a conference table where the “Von Dutch” singer sits next to Stewart, the Oscar winner points out that this year’s Halftime Show is “presented by an apple” — at which point Charli takes a smug bite out of a Granny Smith, a reference to both her Brat song “Apple” and the name of the tech company sponsoring Kendrick Lamar’s highly anticipated mid-game performance Sunday (Feb. 9).

One person who doesn’t buy McConaughey’s theory, however, is filmmaker Greta Gerwig, who tells him at the end, “No one believes that football is just some conspiracy to sell food.”

It was first announced that Charli and the domestic doyenne would star in the McConaughey-led Super Bowl campaign in late January. At the time, the Grammy winner also joined Stewart for a round of “We Listen and We Don’t Judge” for the food delivery company, as well as broke down football positions in club terms.

“It was cute filming my first Super Bowl campaign with Uber Eats!” Charli said in a statement at the time. “Matthew and Martha are obviously legends, so I felt right at home.”

The musician is just one of several music stars fans can expect to see grace their TV screens come Super Bowl Sunday. Also appearing in lucrative game-day ads are Post Malone — who appears alongside Shane Gillis and Peyton Manning in Bud Light’s 2025 campaign — and Mountain Dew partner Becky G.

In the 30-second spot, the rapper and athlete are standing facing each other, spewing out that they hate each other for a variety of ridiculous reasons, including being from different neighborhoods, looking different, needing someone to blame, talking different, acting different and more.

“Man, I hate that things are so bad, that we have to do a commercial about it,” Snoop says to end the ad, and Brady agrees.

Trending on Billboard

Kraft told People that he chose the two stars in particular because “it was important to have two individuals from seemingly different walks of life to relay this campaign message,” adding, “because I think you don’t automatically think that Tom Brady and Snoop Dogg would have much in common, which is the reason they were the perfect pairing for me, for no reason to hate.”

Of asking his longtime friend Snoop to be in the commercial, Kraft recalled, “He didn’t pause, he said, ‘Brother, I’m in. I’m about preaching for love and anti-hate.’”

Kraft added that he’s “really worried about our country and the divisiveness,” noting, “What bothers me about what’s going on in America today, is that people aren’t born with hate. I think they’re born with empathy, and I believe they’re born with love. But they learn hate and they learn it because people are different than they are. And I don’t think how someone worships God, or what the color of their skin is, or the color of their hair, or what their appearance is, that people should be judged on that.”

NFL and NBA players have been turning their strolls from the stadium hallways to the locker room into fashion show catwalks, which has opened them up to different avenues of opportunities, while showcasing more personality under the helmet and allowing them to be defined by more than just their athletic abilities.

“When people think of football players, they think tough or mean, and guys that tackle,” Hopkins tells Billboard. “Then they see a different perspective of us wearing cool things, and I think it gives us a certain light that allows the audience to appreciate us more as people.”

Trending on Billboard

Hopkins parlayed that reputation into a deal with IMG Models, walking in fashion shows for Vetements and Fear of God, and being named to Nashville’s 25 Most People People list while playing for the Tennessee Titans.

He checked another box off on Friday (Jan. 31) with the release of his 60-piece Boohooman capsule collection. Filled with tonal palettes splattered across t-shirts, bomber jackets, elevated trousers, silk sets and more, Hopkins and Boohooman made sure to keep the collection affordable with every piece under $60.

“All the pieces are easily wearable. Nothing crazy — very versatile,” he says. “I got some matching tonal silk sets in there. I got a little bomber jacket, which I feel like is the hero piece. I wanted to make things affordable because growing up I couldn’t afford the craziest things.”

Next up: the biggest game of Hopkins’ life. With Super Bowl LIX on deck in New Orleans, the future Hall-of-Famer will look to add the only thing missing from his decorated resume — a championship ring.

“It would mean everything,” he says of lifting the Lombardi Trophy. “I think it would kind of put my legacy in a good place of hopefully being one of the best to play the game.”

Check out the rest of our chat with the 32-year-old wideout as he touches on his new music publishing company, friendships with Shaboozey and Travis Scott as well as what’s buzzing on his pre-game playlist. Shop Hopkins’ Boohooman collection here.

How did the partnership with Boohooman come together and how involved were you in the collection?

I’m about to play in the Super Bowl, baby… It started a couple of months ago. Me being a fan of Boohooman, I was looking to collab with someone. I feel like Boohooman is a brand that’s respected everywhere. My little sister, my brothers — we’ve all been supporters of it. I wanted to make something happen and they agreed.

As far as being hands-on with the collection, it was an understanding of who I am and who they are. It was something that was easy because I didn’t have to do much and they didn’t either. The pieces they chose and I chose it worked and it was very effortless because they know who I am from studying me and I knew who they were. We made it work. I’m a clean guy kind of guy. I want it to be clean, but very easy. The color palette is very tonal which is my vibe. All the pieces are easily wearable. Nothing crazy — very versatile. I got some matching tonal silk sets in there. I got a little bomber jacket, which I feel like is the hero piece. I wanted to make things affordable because growing up I couldn’t afford the craziest things. The pieces I did have I appreciated. I wanted to stay under $100, which I’m happy we made happen.

What do you think about the tunnel fits aesthetic that’s taken over the NFL from when you came in, in the early 2010s, to now — with social media booming and how big fashion’s become?

I think tunnel pieces for football players have changed some people’s perspective on football players. See us as equal. Some of us are funny and we wear cool, funny stuff. Like, Mack Hollins wore a costume. People see that and are like, “Okay, these guys are cool and have a personality other than tackling each other.” I think the walk-through has opened up a different audience to the fans appreciating us and waiting for certain guys’ outfits and seeing what they’re doing. It’s opened a lot of doors in the fashion world and for fashion brands to see the football players — we can be runway models, and design and collab. It’s just getting started.

You’ve walked in the Vetements and Fear of God shows in the past — if you could talk about connecting with those brands.

That was a blessing. I signed to IMG Models about six or seven years ago and I think part of the reason they signed me was the tunnel fits. How I put certain pieces on and that led to other things. I walked in Jerry Lorenzo’s show in the Hollywood Bowl. I went to Paris and walked in Vetements which was a dream come true. I seen more guys — even ex-NFL players — getting into the fashion scene. Everything I would say started with the tunnel walk-ins. I would say I was one of the early pioneer guys who kind of led the way and was a unicorn at the time of wearing things at the time that people would say is borderline “this is a little crazy.” I did it, and I’m happy guys like [Russell Westbrook] in the NBA did it as well. Not a lot of people were really wearing or trying to make that the expressive fashion sense that some guys do.

Who would you say has the best style on the Chiefs?

Outside of myself, I would say JuJu Smith-Schuster. JuJu has good style. He’s not scared to be himself or wear something unique. That’s the reason I would say JuJu.

What are you thinking for the Super Bowl Sunday gameday style?

I’m still deciding, but I’m thinking I want to have some balance to whatever I wear. I don’t want to go too crazy because it is a big game. It has its moment itself. I might wear something to balance it and tone it down a bit.

Who are some of your go-to’s for the pre-game playlist for the Super Bowl?

I’m very balanced in my music taste. I gotta go Montell Fish, Sauce Walka, Chris Stapleton and Marcus King. That’s my vibe right now. I’ll throw a little H-Town in there.

How did your friendship with Shaboozey come about? I saw you in the “Drink Don’t Need No Mix” video.

I would say just appreciation for my craft. A mutual appreciation. I’ve been listening to Shaboozey for a while. I was in L.A. and I have some friends that know him. I’ve been a supporter of his since day one. It came about because of a mutual friendship. We hung out in Nashville when I was living there because he had a show. We’ve been [cool] for a couple of years now. We’re pushing each other. We’re each other’s biggest fans and biggest critics. I started a publishing company in Nashville. A joint pub company.

Tell me more about the publishing company.

There’s a group called Spirit Music Group from Nashville and they have a lot of big country artists. It’s a joint venture with myself and them. It’s called Lasa (Love All Serve All). We’re working on a big artist who averages three million monthly listeners on Spotify his name is Lecade. We just finalized it. It hasn’t even been six months now. We got a lot of artists who want to get on and I’m trying to keep it versatile. Def looking for pop, country and a little bit of everything.

When you were in Houston, were you cool with Travis Scott? I saw you playing in the Cactus Jack softball game.

Oh yeah. Trav’s my guy, man. I was listening to Trav in early 2013 and of course I was like, “This dude is gonna blow up.” Obviously, he did. Trav and I, we definitely hung out especially being in Houston.

Tay Keith is another person you’re cool with out there.

Tay Keith is one of my good friends. The thing I love about Tay Keith is Tay Keith is a businessman. He’s got a tequila company called Shadow Tequila based in Nashville and it’s doing really well. I’m a big supporter of my friends and what he’s doing. A lot of people know him as Tay Keith the producer, but he’s a businessman, and I think that’s why we get a long so well. Tay Keith is one of my best friends back there.

What’s your album or song of the year for 2024?

I would have to go with Marcus King’s “F–k My Life Up Again” and the album’s Mood Swings. That whole album is pretty good.

What would it mean to win a ring and finish off this season right?

I’ve played 12 years, and I think I’ve played with 19 or 20 quarterbacks. I think, for me, to get this Super Bowl — it would be a [testament] to my patience and my faith and still trusting God and trusting myself. I think it would kind of put my legacy where it needs to be.

You know a trade is wild when social media has to check to see if Shams Charania’s account was hacked.
The entire sports world was left stunned last night when ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania posted a megaton of tweets on X, formerly Twitter, announcing, in a mind-blowing move, that the Dallas Mavericks were sending all-star guard Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers as part of a three-team deal for big man Anthony Davis.

“The Dallas Mavericks are trading Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick, sources tell ESPN. Three-team deal that includes Utah,” Charania wrote in a post X.
The news came just hours after the Lakers smoked the New York Knicks in the Garden on Saturday night.
Davis did not play, but Max Christie did log minutes in the Lakers victory.
The news was so mindblowing that Charania had to follow up to ensure followers his account was not hacked and that the deal was indeed real.

Charania said the deal was made “in the shadows,” with Anthony Davis and LeBron James not even knowing it was going down.
“This deal materialized in the shadows … LeBron James had no idea this was coming. Anthony Davis had no idea this was coming. I’m told Luka Doncic is still stunned about this trade,” Charania said on ESPN.

LeBron James did chime in, responding to a post on CBS Sports’ official X account that he “had grown frustrated with Anthony Davis,” clapping back at the report, “You a fkn lie!!!”

NBA Players Were Left In Shock
As you can imagine, NBA Xitter, hell, everyone reacted to the news with shock. Luka Doncic is coming off a year that saw his Mavericks reach the NBA Finals, and he was pretty much cemented as the Mavericks guy for the foreseeable future.

Bruh!

While BetOnline has released 13 Swift-related prop bets, more are expected to be posted before the Super Bowl.

Shaboozey is trading in his double shot of whiskey for something much sweeter during this year’s Super Bowl. The country superstar is set to appear in Nerds Gummy Clusters’ Big Game advertisement, and the candy shared a teaser of the spot on Tuesday (Jan. 28).

In the 15-second clip, the Hot 100 chart-topper enjoys a bag of Nerds Gummy Clusters while strumming his guitar. Shortly after taking a bite of the popular candy, a gummy cartoon character appears on his shoulder, transforming his guitar into a Nerds-inspired instrument. The message, “Unleash your senses,” appears on the screen to end the preview.

For Shaboozey, teaming up with Nerds was a no-brainer. “I remember Halloween, getting those little boxes and pouring the candy into my mouth. I love them so much,” he tells Billboard of his nostalgic connection to the treat. “It’s awesome to just to see the process of how it all came together. I make country music, and to be able to have the guitar and my world, and have just everything that I’m into, combined with Nerds Gummy Clusters was just amazing. It’s combining two things that are really good on their own to make something even better.”

Fittingly, in the spirit of the partnership, Shaboozey was ready to express what he’s a nerd about. “Music. [laughs] I love music,” he says. “I love video games, and just anything that you can get really involved in and find yourself being super immersed in.”

This year’s game down in New Orleans marks the star’s first time attending the Super Bowl, after taking the stage for a Thanksgiving Day NFL halftime show last year and appearing alongside Beyoncé during her Christmas halftime show. “I got the opportunity to play two really huge halftime shows. It was definitely a dream come true,” he recalls. “I grew up watching some so many different athletes, and I’m really excited to be a part of this Big Game. To be in a Super Bowl commercial with a brand I grew up on, it’s going to be hard to beat that.”

The Nerds Super Bowl ad is just the beginning of an exciting year for Shaboozey, who is nominated for five Grammy Awards thanks to his Beyoncé collaboration “SPAGHETTII” and his breakthrough hit, “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which notched a record-tying 19th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November. He’s also scheduled to perform at both Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals in the spring.

“It’s a dream. It’s surreal,” he says. “Every day I wake up, I’m just like, ‘Wow, we did that.’ I’m excited to keep making great music, and continue to give the people great things and great products. I’m also excited to keep improving and do better every day.”

Super Bowl LIX takes place on Sunday, Feb. 9 and all eyes will be on the big game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs will look to three-peat at Super Bowl LIX, while the Eagles hope to spoil those plans.
On Sunday (Jan.  26),  the NFC and AFC Championship games set off a full day of American football with the winners barreling full speed ahead to Super Bowl LIX. In the NFC Championship game, the Washington Commanders, led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, delivered a game effort but the Philadelphia Eagles and the attack from quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley proved too much for the burgundy and gold. The Eagles took that game 55-23 over the Commanders.

The AFC Championship game was a bit more competitive with Patrick Mahomes guiding the Chiefs in the intense showdown with the Buffalo Bills and their quarterback Josh Allen. After delivering knockout blows to one another, the Chiefs eked out a 32-29 win over the Bills.

The upcoming Super Bowl will be the next opportunity for Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the Chiefs to take home the Vince Lombardi trophy for the third time in a row and would cement them as one of the top teams of the modern era. The Eagles have been here before themselves, last winning the Super Bowl in 2018 over the New England Patriots.
All eyes will certainly be on television sets and watch parties across the United States and the world. And even if the football game isn’t your thing, this year’s halftime show with Kendrick Lamar will be must-see television.
