Billboard looks back and counts down the top five songs that ruled the summer of 2011.

2011 was the year of women, with three of the five Billboard Hot 100 Songs of the Summer belonging to female powerhouses. First up: Nicki Minaj and her explosive hit “Super Bass.”

The No. 4 song on the Hot 100 Songs of the Summer belongs to one of our favorite California girls, Katy Perry. Her hit “Last Friday Night (TGIF)” had us singing along all summer long.

We bring in a softer touch to the summer of 2011 with the queen of ballads and her hit “Rolling in the Deep.” Adele is No. 3.

Now, it wouldn’t be summertime without a huge collaboration. Pitbull brought together some big names for the second biggest song of the summer, featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer. “Give Me Everything” is No. 2.

And the No. 1 song of 2011: The party song to end all party songs. “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO featuring Lauren Bennett and Goon Rock stuck in our heads all summer long.

Billboard looks back and counts down the top five songs that ruled the summer of 2009.

15 years later, our first artist is still on top of the world, but it was one of her early hits that made it into our top five. Taylor Swift comes in at No. 5 with “You Belong With Me.”

Keri Hilson had a huge hit on her hands when she brought in some big names to join her on her debut album. Her song “Knock You Down” featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo comes in at No. 3.
