Simone Biles

Simone Biles, who already secured her position as the most decorated gymnast of all time, won her second gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris this week. After a glowing reply on X from Ricky Davila, Simone Biles took a jab at Donald Trump and the former president’s weird “Black jobs” quip.
Ricky Davila shared an X reply Friday morning (July 2) featuring images of Simone Biles showing off her latest gold medal at the Paris Games. Davilla, using Trump’s “Black jobs” quote, wrote in the caption, “Simone Biles being the GOAT, winning Gold medals and dominating gymnastics is her black job.”
Biles caught wind of Davila’s reply, quoting and resharing while writing in the caption, “I love my Black job.”
Some might recall that Trump recently debated President Joe Biden in June on the CNN network, where he suggested migrants were crossing the border and taking “Black jobs” as a means to attract the Black voting bloc, but the tactic backfired explosively by way of social media lampooning Trump’s words.
Further, during an appearance at the 2024 NABJ Convention and Job Fair in Chicago, Trump once more used the “Black jobs” bogeyman to stoke fears of Black voters as he looks primed to take on presumptive Democratic Party nominee Vice President Kamala Harris this fall.”I will tell you that coming from the border, are millions and millions of people that happen to be taking Black jobs,” Trump said.
Trump also sparked another social media trend during the same NABJ appearance by suggesting that Vice President Harris suddenly turned Black.
“She was always of Indian heritage and she was promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. So I don’t know, is she Indian, or is she Black?” Trump said, trying to seize on a thin wave of poorly researched assumptions that have grown loud but ultimately weak legs on social media.

If there are two people on this planet who know anything and everything about getting to the top — and staying there — it’s Beyoncé and Simone Biles. Ahead of the Stateside airing of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics women’s gymnastics all-around finals (Aug. 1), NBC has released a new commercial honoring Biles, narrated by Queen Bey herself.
“Let’s talk about power. Because, really, that’s what this story’s about,” Beyoncé begins. “Physical power: its beauty, its wonder. The way it never stops amazing you. Then there’s spiritual power, the kind that really matters. The power you can’t see, only sense. The power you need in those moments when life goes a little sideways on you. And, of course, lasting power. Only a select few know what it feels like to get to the top and stay there. And, somehow, keep getting better.”
The emotional commercial traces Biles’ legendary career, from home footage of her practicing back flips to past Olympic victories. Beyoncé’s narration praises not just Biles talent and athleticism, but also her resilience. When the 32-time Grammy winner mentions life going “a little sideways on you,” she’s alluding to the infamous “twisties” — a temporary loss of air awareness while performing twisting elements — that tragically caused Biles to withdraw from the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. Biles’ perseverance carried her from that shocking hiatus to a historic showing at this summer’s Games.

In Paris, Biles represented the United States alongside teammates Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera, becoming the fourth American female artistic gymnast to compete at three Olympic Games. Ahead of their individual events, Biles led Team USA to the gold medal for the team event.
With this new commercial, Beyoncé marks her second appearance during this year’s Olympics. The pop icon introduced Team USA during the Opening Ceremony with a reworked version of “Ya Ya,” a song from her Billboard 200-topping Cowboy Carter LP that peaked at No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100. Another Cowboy Carter track soundtracks the Biles commercial: the Willie Jones-assisted “Just for Fun,” which reached No. 59 on the Hot 100. Given that Biles is a fellow Black woman from Texas, it’s no surprise that Beyoncé lent her voice to uplifting the only U.S. gymnast to win six Olympic gold medals.
“Simone Biles inspires me and I’m pretty sure she inspires you too,” Beyoncé continued. “Such confidence in her strength, such beauty in her power, such a great lesson in her story. Brilliance, it doesn’t come easy. Gold can be a hell of a journey. And the greatest of all time is willing to put that title on the line every time she walks out there. Take your best shot, world. She’s ready for you.”
Although NBC and Peacock will air the women’s gymnastics all-around finals tonight at 8 p.m. ET, the event has already taken place in Paris. Biles took home the gold in the all-arounds, becoming the first U.S. Olympic gymnast in history to win two all-around gold medals (2016 and 2024). Lee — who won the gold medal in 2020 — took home the bronze medal, making her and Biles the first U.S. Olympic gymnasts to earn multiple all-around medals.

Simone Biles achieved a remarkable feat during the 2024 Summer Olympics, becoming the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast in history. After making the historic mark, Simone Biles subtly hit back at former gymnast MyKayla Skinner Harmer, who made disparaging comments about the work ethic of Team USA.
Simone Biles, 27, and the U.S. women’s gymnastics team captured gold which adds to Biles hefty medal total. As reported by NBC Olympics, Biles has five gold medals, bypassing Shannon Miller. In all, Biles owns eight Olympic medals in total.
Much has been made of the age of the women’s gymnastics team, especially after they won silver as a team at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Fellow gymnasts Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera join Biles in becoming the fourth American gymnastics team in history to win gold in the Olympics.
Biles, who suffered the “twisties” during the vault event at the 2020 Tokyo Games, landed her vault in Paris with confidence and beaming pride. While one announcer called her vault, quote, “safe,” it was clear that whatever fears and concerns Biles had before are now behind her.
“I was like, phew, at least no flashbacks or anything,” Biles said. “I did feel a lot of relief and after I landed vault I was like, ‘Oh yeah, we’re definitely going to do this.’”
And “do this” they did.
The win is a direct jab back at Skinner Harmer, this after the Olympic silver medalist posted a now-deleted YouTube video saying, “Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t like what it used to be. Just notice like, I mean, obviously a lot of girls don’t work as hard.”
Skinner Harmer has since apologized by Biles isn’t letting it go as evidenced in the Instagram post below.
Further, Biles took to Twitter to share the team’s real nickname after the F Around And Find Out team name went wide.
“[O]kay on the real though, the official team name is golden girls (because oldest olympic team) s/o to cecile,” Biles wrote on X.
Although we can’t confirm it, it appears that Skinner Harmer blocked Biles on X after the win. Check out the assumed jab below.
Congratulations to Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera! Keep scrolling for comments from X.
