shooting

Ishika Samant / Kris Boyd

The NYPD has released footage of the alleged gunman in the shooting of New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd.

Kris Boyd is currently in critical condition after he was shot in the abdomen outside of the restaurant Sei Less on West 38 Street near Seventh Avenue around 2 am on Sunday.
According to the New York Post, the shooting was the result of a dispute that became violent.
A source told the newspaper that the gunman fled the scene in a BMW after firing off two shots. A second vehicle, a silver Mercedes-Benz, was also seen fleeing the scene.
Boyd was out with friends before the shooting incident. It’s unclear if he was the intended target and remains in “critical but stable condition.”
The NYPD Shares Details On The Alleged Shooter

Newsweek shared more information provided by the NYPD on the alleged shooter:

In response to a request for comment, the New York Police Department shared a release with Newsweek and said the department is “asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual depicted in the attached media, wanted in connection with an assault that occurred within the confines of the Midtown South Precinct.”

The release said the unidentified individual they are seeking “discharged a firearm, striking a 29-year-old male victim in the abdomen”.

“The unidentified individual fled the location on foot traveling eastbound on West 38 Street to parts unknown,” the release read.

“The sought individual is described as male, medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a black cap, black sweatshirt, black pants, multi-colored sneakers, and carrying a black bookbag.”

Boyd’s NFL brethren and others have shared their thoughts and prayers; you can see those below.

An appeals court has upheld Tory Lanez’s convictions for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, rejecting his arguments aimed at overturning his 10-year prison sentence.

Nearly three years after the singer (Daystar Peterson) was found guilty in 2022 of shooting Megan in the foot during a drunken argument on a Hollywood Hills street, a California appellate court affirmed the verdict in a ruling issued Wednesday (Nov. 12).

Related

Lanez and his supporters have long maintained his innocence, claiming there was insufficient proof that he was the shooter and that he received an unfair trial. But in the ruling, the appeals court said there was no reason to undo the verdict.

“Peterson contends the trial court committed a number of errors,” the appeals court wrote. “We find no prejudicial error and, accordingly, affirm Peterson’s conviction.” A spokeswoman for Lanez did not immediately return a request for comment on the ruling.

The ruling came more than five years after the July 12, 2020, shooting, which happened as a driver was shuttling Lanez, Megan and her assistant/friend Kelsey Harris from a party at Kylie Jenner’s house. According to prosecutors, when Megan got out of a vehicle and began walking away, Lanez shouted “Dance, b—h!” and fired a gun at her feet, striking her once.

Following the incident, Megan initially told police officers that she had cut her foot stepping on broken glass, but days later alleged that she had been shot. Lanez was eventually charged with the shooting in October 2022.

Related

During a blockbuster trial in Los Angeles court, Lanez’s lawyers tried to sow doubt over who had really pulled the trigger, painting a scenario in which Harris could have been the shooter. But a key defense witness offered confusing eyewitness testimony, and prosecutors pointed to an earlier interview in which Harris pinned the blame squarely on Lanez. Megan herself offered powerful testimony that Lanez had been the one to shoot her, and neither Lanez nor the driver took the witness stand.

Lanez and his supporters have refused to accept that verdict, calling it a “miscarriage of justice.” His legal team has filed multiple forms of appeal to challenge the verdict, each of which has now been rejected. They have also claimed publicly that new evidence exonerates him; Megan’s reps and prosecutors strongly deny that.

On appeal, Lanez raised a slew of arguments. He argued it had been unfair for jurors to hear the earlier interview with Harris, in which she placed the blame for the shooting on Lanez; he also argued prosecutors had improperly cited an Instagram post in which he appeared to say that Harris had not shot Megan.

In Wednesday’s decision, the appeals court rejected each of those arguments, including Lanez’s claim that prosecutors had “introduced racial bias into the proceedings” by referencing a tattoo of a gun on his chest.

“It was defense counsel who asked — both on direct and on redirect — if [a witness] had ever seen Peterson with a gun,” the appeals court wrote. “Neither of the prosecutors even mentioned Peterson’s tattoos — much less the tattoo of a firearm — in their closing arguments.”

Vance Boelter, the suspect wanted in the shootings in Minnesota that left one state representative dead, has been apprehended by authorities. Gov. Tim Walz shared the news via his social media feeds, as other major and local outlets shared details they had obtained.
Local outlet Fox 9 reports that Vance Boelter, 57, was apprehended in Green Isle after authorities launched an area and statewide manhunt in attempts to bring Boelter to justice. The outlet writes that the suspect, who shot and injured Minnesota State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife in their Champlin home, later went to the home of Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and assassinated her and her husband Mark Hortman.

CNN writes that Gov. Walz addressed Minnesotans about the arrest of Boetler, who has been revealed to be a former security guard who recently appeared to be struggling to make ends meet. Boelter posed as a police officer when he visited Sen. Hoffman’s home, and used the guise again at Rep. Hortman’s home. Driving an SUV that was fashioned to look like a law enforcement vehicle, investigators on the scene uncovered a manifesto that seems to illustrate Boelter was out for blood and had a hit list to settle.
Online, the chatter of Boelter is focused on his alleged right-wing political ties. A rumor that has since been debunked attempted to connect Walz to Boelter, and some tried to frame Boelter as a hard-left Democratic Party voter.
As the news is still developing, there are sparse reactions on the X social media platform regarding the arrest of Vance Boelter. We’ll share those comments below and will make updates as needed.

A man was struck and later died after a stray bullet flew into his residence in the northwest section of Washington over the Memorial Day Weekend. The killing was part of a violent stretch of incidents that have occurred over the past nine days in the District of Columbia.

Local outlet WJLA reports that on Sunday (May 25) at around 6:20 PM local time, a man was struck by a stray bullet at the home on the 1500 block of Ogden Street, Northwest. Officers and emergency medical technicians attempted to revive the man after discovering him suffering from the wound, but the man would later die of his injuries. The victim was revealed to be Jose Carcarmo of Northwest Washington.

Executive Assistant Chief for the Metropolitan Police Department Andre Wright held a press conference addressing the shooting and to allay concerns that residents might have.

“Based on the evidence and what we know, this does not appear to be a targeted shooting of the individual who was inside of his residence,” Wright said. “It appears, preliminarily, that this was a stray round that struck his residence and subsequently struck him.”

The outlet also reported on a double homicide in Southeast Washington that left Royell Walker, 16, and Jamar Jackson, 19, dead. An unnamed victim, 14, was also seriously injured in the Friday night (May 23) shooting.

A$AP Relli took the stand on Tuesday (Jan. 28) during former friend A$AP Rocky’s shooting trial, revealing more details about the 2021 incident. During his time on the stand, A$AP Relli claims he allegedly demanded that A$AP Rocky use the gun at the center of the matter in a show of bravado although Relli reportedly testified he never saw a firearm on Rocky’s person before their confrontation.
TMZ reports that A$AP Relli, real name Terell Ephron, took the stand and shared his side of the story regarding the alleged incident. Relli and Rocky, real name Rakim Mayers, were childhood friends in New York and came up together as Rocky rose the ranks in music and fashion as part of the A$AP Mob collective. Relli says the issues began when a day before the November 6, 2021 shooting, he overheard a call between Rocky and A$AP Bari that was disparaging toward him and the longtime friendship fizzled from there.

The next day, Reli and Rocky planned to meet in Hollywood and the testimony from Relli claims that Rocky arrived with two other individuals with the idea of hashing out their differences in person. During the testimony, Relli claims he told Rocky, “You better use that sh*t, what the f*ck you got a gun for?” and added, “I was willing to die for my respect. If this is what you want to do, I still have my dignity.”
Relli claims he was grazed on the knuckle after Rocky fired at him. Rocky’s attorney says that the gun in the matter was a stage prop and therefore could not have fired a bullet nor were there casings found.
Rihanna, the mother of Rocky’s children, was in the gallery during the testimony in a show of support. Also taking the stand was an LAPD officer Tommy Zizzo, the son of Erika Jayne who starred in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills franchise.
A$AP Rocky is facing two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and faces a maximum of 24 years behind bars if the trial leads to a conviction. Rocky has previously rejected a plea deal.

Patrick Houston Jr., reportedly the son of veteran rapper Project Pat, was shot and killed on Jan. 12 according to local reports. The news is making its way to the larger public after a new report, and it appears that the investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
Local outlet Fox 13 first reported on the death of Patrick Houston Jr. on Sunday,  January 12, writing that the crime took place around 1:15 local time at a Memphis park. The actual shooting incident took place the Friday prior.

TMZ published a report on Thursday (Jan. 23) and added that Houston was the son of Project Pat. A quick scan of Project Pat’s Instagram page makes no mention of his son’s killing and the rapper was active just four days ago on the platform promoting new music.
According to an obituary page,  funeral services for Houston will take place this weekend.
We also headed over to Juicy J’s page, who is the uncle of Houston. There was no mention there of the slaying as well. With the details still in development and everyone seemingly tight-lipped about what is known, this is about as much as we’ve been able to discover on our side.
As additional details continue to come forth, we will return to update this post or provide an update report.
Patrick Houston Jr. was 22 as per the obituary page.

A$AP Rocky has elected to reject a plea deal in his ongoing assault case in Los Angeles which would have seen him serve 180 days behind bars for accepting one of the felony counts. Now, a jury selection process is underway and A$AP Rocky could face up to 24 years in prison.

The Associated Press reports that A$AP Rocky, real name Rakim Mayers, declined to take the plea deal after initially pleading not guilty to two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm back in 2022. Rocky, 36, is accused of opening fire on childhood friend Terell “A$AP Relli” Ephron in Hollywood back in 2021.

The terms of the deal were for Rocky to plead guilty to one of the aforementioned felony counts, with Los Angeles County prosecutors suggesting a seven-year suspended sentence, three-year probation, and a six-month jail sentence.
According to Rocky’s attorney, the defense will call on witnesses to take the stand in the trial and deliver testimony that the gun Rocky fired was a starter pistol used as a security measure and not a full-on semiautomatic weapon as the charges state.
Rocky is the husband of singer and fashion powerhouse Rihanna and the pair are parents to two toddler boys. Rocky was also preparing the release of his fourth studio album, Don’t Be Dumb,  via his ASAP Worldwide imprint alongside Polo Grounds/RCA.
The courts surveyed over 100 potential jurors in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom and as of Wednesday (Jan. 22), the full measure of 12 jurors have not been selected. Opening statements will be televised once the trial officially begins.
If found guilty, A$AP Rocky could face up to 24 years behind bars.

OG 2 Low, a rapper who reportedly has ties with Rap-A-Lot Records, was a guest on a recent podcast discussing the finer points of his career, which dates back to the 1990s. During the chat, OG 2 Low is seen in a clip adjusting his fireman in his pocket, which suddenly goes off and narrowly misses the rapper’s leg while sparking a flurry of comments online.

As reported by Chron, OG 2 Low sat down with the One on One Wit Mike D podcast, also known as the Tha Dirty 3rd podcast, hosted by Mike D of the Screwed Up Click and one-third of the Southside Playaz group.
In a clip posted by @CollinRugg over the weekend, OG 2 Low, 45, is seen on the set of One on One Wit Mike D fumbling around in his pants when viewers suddenly hear a loud pop and a pained look on OG’s face. Mike D asks if anyone was shot while the podcast producer is heard in the background with some light commentary. Taking the moment in stride, Mike D took a quick pause and resumed the chat with OG 2 Low, who did appear to be okay despite blasting a hole in the left thigh portion of his jeans.
The video, which has been viewed over 2 million times and clipped by other content creators and outlets, is continuing to make its rounds with some saying the moment reminded them of the time former NFL star Plaxico Burress shot himself in the leg while carrying a gun in his pants. Others online preached about gun safety while others just went in for the jokes.
We’ve got a few reactions below, avoiding those that bordered on racist with some tough guy gun owners acting like they’re John Wick online and using it as an excuse to dump on the perceived intelligence of rappers.
