Actress Melissa Barrera has been cut from the upcoming Scream 7 movie over a social media post concerning the Israel-Hamas war.
On Tuesday (Nov. 21), Deadline reports that Melissa Barrera, who was one of the leads in the recent Scream movies had been dropped from the film by the production company, Spyglass Media Group. In a statement, Spyglass cited Barrera’s reposts on social media related to the Israel-Hamas conflic where she showed support for the Palestinians, which some perceived as antisemitic.

Barrera, who was previously in the film adaptation of Lin Manuel-Miranda’s In The Heights, was also a major figure in the Vida series on Starz before joining the Scream franchise. Previous posts that have been collated by people online show Barrera’s posts decrying the bloodshed in the region that was initiated by an attack on a concert near the Gaza Strip on October 7 by Hamas and the subsequent Israeli military intervention.

She reposted an image to her Instagram Stories in response to the news which read: “At the end of the day, I’d rather be excluded for who I include, than be included for who I exclude.”

“Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech,” the statement issued by one of Spyglass’ representatives read. The company offered no further comment.
Melissa Barrera starred as Sam Carpenter, the older sister to Tara Carpenter, played by Jenna Ortega. Ortega has become a major star thanks in part to playing Tara Carpenter and also playing the titular role of Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series. On Wednesday (Nov. 22), word has spread that Ortega has asked Spyglass Media and Paramount, the studio behind the Scream movies to be let out of her contract over the dismissal of Barrera. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ortega had actually expressed her desire not to return to the horror franchise two months ago.

After cutting seven studio albums, changing style and music direction in the fickle pop world, and surviving a near fatal overdose, yes, Demi Lovato is still alive.
At the stroke of midnight, the U.S. artist dropped “Still Alive,” her contribution to the Scream VI soundtrack.

It’s the first taste of Lovato’s new music since releasing her seventh studio album, Holy Fvck, back in 2022.

The pop-punk fueled full-length contained collaborations with Yungblud, Royal & the Serpent and Dead Sara and ultimately topped three separate Billboard tallies: Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums.

Mike Shinoda is on production duties for “Still Alive,” which sees Lovato cruising in that pop-punk lane and spitting out lyrics that illustrate a living hell.

On it, she sings: “Already died a thousand times / Went to hell but I’m back and I’m breathing / Make me bleed while my heart is still beating / Still alive”.

Lovato, of course, came very close to losing it all when she overdosed on heroin in 2018. She’s since spoken candidly about the incident, and the ongoing road to recovery from a binge that left her with three strokes, a heart attack, and blind spots in her vision.

“Still Alive” is accompanied by an official music video, which features a creep in that familiar Ghostface mask, terrorizing some poor folks. Watch to the end for Lovato kicking some butt.

Jensen Noen directs the “Still Alive” music video, which can be seen below. The next installment in the Scream franchise is due out March 10 in cinemas.

The Ghostface Killer is back but instead of causing a ruckus in the burbs of the West Coast, he’s terrorizing New Yorkers instead (he probably got a Death Row pendant under his costume).

A month after we got our first teaser trailer for Scream VI, fans of the cult classic franchise have not gotten the first full official trailer for the slasher film and truth be told, it looks pretty damn good. Taking place after the events of Scream 5 in which the surviving “teens” move to New York to escape the bloody memories left in Woodsboro, California, Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown), Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding) and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) find themselves being hunted by the latest nut to take up the mantle of the Ghostface murderer.

This time around though, the killer promises to be “something different” as he attempts to take down the aforementioned characters along with Scream alumni, Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox). And though it was reported that OG Scream queen, Neve Campbell skipped this entry into the franchise due to contract disputes, we wouldn’t be surprised if that was a smoke screen and her character of Sidney Prescott ends up being the secret identity of the killer this time around. We already know that every Scream movie ends with a wild twist, so why not?
Filled with violence, kids running for their lives, and of course screaming, the trailer to Scream VI promises fans a bloody good time and an ending that better shock the heck out of everyone. At least we hope it does.
Will you be checking out Scream VI when it hits theaters March 10 or are you all screamed out? Let us know in the comments section below.
