Sometimes the stars align and magic happens. But this leap year, the heavens have misaligned and robbed St. Patrick’s Day revelers of the first chance in six years to paint the town green on a Saturday because of the leap year.

So when a nation needs brave heroes to do the right thing and save them from having to shake their shamrocks on a Sunday, Saturday Night Live “Weekend Update” co-anchors Michael Che and Colin Jost have bravely stepped up to the challenge with a brand-new holiday celebration.

“We’re not making up a holiday, this is a freak occurrence,” Che explains about the decision by the duo to team up with Jameson Irish Whiskey to create a new, totally fabricated holiday they’re calling “Jameson St. Patrick’s Eve.” The faux festival will take place on March 16, complete with a St. Patrick’s Eve countdown in New York’s Times Square hosted by the duo.

Trending on Billboard

“Why not St. Patrick’s Eve? You’ve got Christmas Eve, you’ve got New Year’s Eve,” Che says. While acknowledging that New Yorkers don’t really need an excuse to start the party before 10 a.m., Che says he and Jost are not recommending that revelers start that early, but “we do recommend you have one or two at, say 10:30 a.m.,” with Jost adding, “if you work until 9 a.m. it’s a very reasonable time to have a drink… [like if you’re a ] longshoremen.”

“Or short shoremen,” Che quipped, with Jost chiming in, “yeah, we don’t discriminate… I’ve always through I really want to start a religion for tax purposes, so starting a holiday is a first step.” The pair, both native New Yorkers, say they take their St. Patrick’s day celebrations very seriously, with the always-on-message Che noting that the holiday reminds him of “friendship, fellowship, and of course, Jameson.”

“When Leap Year skipped over a Saturday St. Patrick’s Day, we did exactly what a Jameson would do: we created a completely new holiday so people can start celebrating St. Patrick’s Day a little early,” says the brand’s VP of marketing Johan Radojewski in a statement announcing the hokum holiday party that will also include a guest appearance from an as-yet-unnamed DJ. “We teamed up with Colin Jost and Michael Che to help us seize this moment and encourage everyone to embrace St. Patrick’s Eve, because they’re a duo who appreciates a smooth Irish Whiskey, good company, and a brand-new holiday – just like any Jameson would.”

The St. Patrick’s Eve party Times Square takeover will also feature the first-of-its-kind “rock drop,” Jameson’s spin on the famous New Year’s eve ball drop, which will take place at 8 p.m. ET (midnight in Ireland). Che says he’s so excited about the party, in fact, that he’s considering his first stage dive. “I’ve been saving it, now is the time I feel,” he says, with Jost, as usual, perfectly yes-anding his co-anchor’s bit by comparing the scene he expects to the one in The Thomas Crown Affair “where they’re all walking around in bowler hats at the end? Except it will be a sea of green plastic hats.”

The real holiday evokes fond memories for Jost, who often marched with firefighters in two St. Patrick’s Day parades as a kid, in Manhattan and Staten Island, alongside his mother and grandfather, both of whom worked for the fire department. Che, on the other hand, jokes that he doesn’t have any specific memories of the holiday, because “it’s St. Patrick’s day and if you have memories after St. Patrick’s Day you’re doing it wrong.”

The one thing the “Update” anchors could not reveal was the name of the DJ, though Che teases that “no it’s not a British guy name ‘Prize’ who was knighted. It’s a surprise!”

Starting today, fans can enter a chance to get a spot on the guest list for the Jameson St. Patrick’s Eve party and anyone 21+ can check out a livestream of the rock drop here. The party will take place between 43rd and 44th Streets from 6-10 p.m. EST. In addition, Jameson will light up the Sphere in Las Vegas in Jameson green, wrap ferries and water taxies in the dyed-green Chicago River and do a digital takeover at L.A. Live to mark the holiday.

Ayo Edebiri found herself in hot water earlier this month after her past comments insulting Jennifer Lopez resurfaced, just days before she was set to host Saturday Night Live with the “On the Floor” singer serving as musical guest. But according to Lopez, it was no big deal. “It’s funny,” J. Lo said in her […]

It is clear Jennifer Lopez is still tapped into the streets. She had Redman join her during her Saturday Night Live set.

As spotted on GQ Magazine Newark and the South Bronx have come together for a memorable moment on one of the world’s most iconic stages. On Saturday, Feb 3 the “Love Don’t Cost A Thing” singer debuted the remix to her single “Can’t Get Enough” which reprises Redman’s 1998 hit “Da Goodness”. Wearing a suit, an untucked button-up shirt and a fedora to match the black and white theme, Reggie Noble flawlessly rapped his verse while interacting with the Grammy Award nominated singer with his own set of dance moves. Additionally, the bars were gritty but still made aligned with the track’s mainstream feel. “Take ’em to the limit / shut the place down in a New York minute / Look around the room, J.LO they all mad / Season veterans – check the dog tags”.

This is not the first time Funk Doctor Spock has lent his talents to a pop song. Back in 2003 Christina Aguilera redid his song “Dirty” which he featured on. The track was the lead single to her multi-platinum album Stripped. The duo performed the song at 2002 MTV Music Awards. You can see Jennifer Lopez rock with both Latto and Redman on Saturday Night Live below.

Jennifer Lopez is performing on Saturday Night Live this weekend — or will it be J.Lo?
In promos for Saturday’s new episode, this week’s host — first-timer Ayo Edebiri — introduces Lopez as the musical guest, much to SNL castmember Heidi Gardner’s disappointment.

“Nuts, I thought it was going to be J.Lo!” Gardner laments.

“I am J.Lo,” Lopez informs her, to which Gardner replies, “Lady, she just said your name was Jennifer Lopez.”

After explaining that J.Lo is short for Jennifer Lopez, Edebiri says that her name Ayo is actually short for “I owned the first combination Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin-Robbins.” “Really?” a stunned Gardner asks. “No,” Edebiri admits.

Elsewhere in the promos, Lopez tells Edebiri she’s really excited to share the episode because “I love your show” — referencing the actress’ Emmy-winning dramedy series The Bear. “I love your everything,” Edebiri shoots back. What does Gardner love? “A brisk fall morning where the light is just beginning to paint the landscape.”

Later, Gardner suggests the trio do “something really funny together this week,” to which Edebiri suggests locking SNL castmember Bowen Yang in a green room. “I already did that this morning,” Lopez says. “Oh, I meant like a sketch — is he OK?” Gardner worries.

While this marks Edebiri’s first time hosting, it will be Lopez’s fourth time on the show — once as the musical guest, once as the host, and twice pulling double-duty in 2001 and 2010.

Lopez is promoting her upcoming ninth studio album, This Is Me… Now, which serves as a sequel to 2002’s This Is Me… Then. Last month, she released the project’s first single, “Can’t Get Enough,” followed by a remix with Latto. In January, Edebiri took home the Emmy for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for her role as Sydney in The Bear as well as the Golden Globe for best actress – television series musical or comedy.

Can you tell Justin Timberlake how to get to Sesame Street?
In promos for this weekend’s Saturday Night Live, musical guest Timberlake is joined by host Dakota Johnson and SNL‘s Sarah Sherman, and the quirky castmember is lamenting her “Oscar snub.”

“Sorry, I’m just still sad about my Oscar snub,” Sherman says after seeming down.

As Johnson comforts Sherman, Timberlake wonders: “Wait, what movie were you in?”

“No, not that kind of Oscar snub,” Sherman clarifies. “I asked Oscar the Grouch out, and he said, ‘Sorry, honey: I live in the trash, I don’t date it.’”

“You know what?” Timberlake says angrily, invoking the lyrics of the PBS kids’ show’s famous theme song. “Just tell me how to get to Sesame Street and I will beat his a–!”

Elsewhere in the promos, Sherman marvels that “three of the hottest people in the world are on television right now at the same time!” Plus, Sherman promises to bring “SexyBack” — just like Timberlake famously did on his 2006 seven-week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit — with a “sketch where our heads explode.” Johnson is onboard: “That’s hot.”

Timberlake has spent a lot of time on the Saturday Night Live stage, doing double-duty as host and musical guest three times, as well as hosting twice and performing once with *NSYNC and once on his own. He’s also earned four Emmys through his SNL work, including outstanding original music and lyrics for his “Di– in a Box” music video with Lonely Island. Timberlake’s last performance on the show was in December 2013.

JT will likely perform his just-released song “Selfish” on Saturday night, the lead single from his upcoming sixth studio album Everything I Thought It Was, but it’s unclear whether he’ll live-debut a second song from the March 15 project or play something we already know.

This will be Johnson’s second time hosting, after her February 2015 debut.

Watch the new promos below, and tune in to NBC or Peacock on Saturday at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT to catch Johnson and Timberlake’s episode.

Ayo Edebiri will be hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time, and superstar Jennifer Lopez will be the episode’s musical guest.
The impressive run for comedian and actress Ayo Edebiri is continuing, as it was announced that she will be hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time. Edebiri will host the long-running NBC show on Feb. 3, and Jennifer Lopez will join in as the musical guest for that episode. This weekend’s episode will feature actress Dakota Johnson as the host, with pop star Justin Timberlake serving as the musical guest.

The news comes as Edebiri is fresh off of winning the Emmy Award for Best Supporting Comedy Actress for her role as Sydney Adamu in FX’s The Bear. She also won the Critics Choice Award and a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy TV Series. Edebiri also starred in Theatre Camp and Bottoms last year. As a writer, she’s worked on Apple TV+’s Dickinson and Netflix’s Big Mouth as well as The Rundown with Robin Thede.
Edebiri was also a part of the writer’s room for another hit FX show, What We Do In The Shadows, which garnered her a Writers Guild Awards nomination. The Boston, Massachusetts, native’s SNL appearance won’t be without a lack of ties to the show – she’s hosted a comedy show with Ben Marshall, who heads up the show’s “Please Don’t Destroy” segment.
For Jennifer Lopez, the visit will be her fourth time appearing on Saturday Night Live. Her first time was as a musical guest in 2000. She doubled as a host and musical performer in 2001 and 2010. Lopez last appeared on the show alongside DaBaby in 2019. This latest appearance comes as Lopez is about to release This Is Me…Now, her first album in 10 years with a narrative film to be released through Amazon Prime Video Feb. 16.

Jenny from the block is heading to 30 Rock. With weeks to go until her highly anticipated album This Is Me … Now arrives, Jennifer Lopez will take to the Saturday Night Live stage on Feb. 3 as musical guest. The episode will also feature Ayo Edebri making her hosting debut, NBC announced Wednesday (Jan. […]

Jacob Elordi slipped into a lot of hilarious costumes during his inaugural run as Saturday Night Live host last weekend. But the Saltburn star’s best character work ended up on the cutting room floor as evidenced by the posting of a cut-for-time sketch parodying the 2004-2007 Xzibit-hosted MTV series Pimp My Ride. Playing sad sack […]

As Barry Keoghan’s nude Saltburn romp continues to cast a large shadow over social media, the Saturday Night Live is sharing its own spin on the film’s buzzy conclusion. At the end of Saltburn, Keoghan’s character frolics and dances around an empty castle completely nude as Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s 2002 dance smash “Murder on the Dancefloor” […]

We’re guessing 6-foot-5 actor Jacob Elordi isn’t often called “baby girl,” but that’s just what Reneé Rapp and Bowen Yang label him in new Saturday Night Live promos, released Thursday night (Jan. 18). “Reneé, you were so right. He is so baby girl,” SNL castmember Yang says after Elordi announces his hosting gig, to which […]
