Actress Garcelle Beauvais released a video in response to the defamation of Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, by Republicans and others.
The recent false claims about Haitian Immigrants eating dogs and cats perpetuated by Republican politicians including former President Donald Trump have put that community at high risk. Veteran actress Garcelle Beauvais, who is of Haitian descent, took to social media to make a plea for the attacks to stop. She released a video on her Instagram account Monday, Sept. 16, writing in the caption: “I have been holding this in for a week, hoping, praying it would go away, but it hasn’t!!! Anyone who knows me, knows that I speak my mind! This madness has got to stop.”

“Staying silent in the face of racism and hate is something that I refuse to do,” The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star began. “This past week, the lies that have been spewed about the Haitian community — about my community — have been disgusting, deeply hurtful, and dangerous. Now, this is not about politics. It’s about humanity. We must condemn this kind of hatred, this kind of racism, for anyone,” Beauvais continued. “And I will not sit by and let people talk about my community in any way they want for their own gain.”
She ended the video by imploring her followers to vote, reiterating the message in Haitian Creole. “The power we have is the power to vote, to register and vote and stop this madness, this chaos. I am not going to sit by. It’s just not okay to treat people like this. We’re supposed to be uplifting each other, from our leaders to our neighbors. This has got to stop, and we have to do something about it.”
Beauvais has always been proud of her heritage. The actress, who was born in Saint-Marc, Haiti, made her debut in the classic film Coming To America in 1988. Since then, she has built a strong career with prime roles in The Jamie Foxx Show and NYPD Blue, in addition to being a sought-after fashion model and the author of a 2022 memoir, Love Me As I Am: My Journey from Haiti to Hollywood to Happiness. “I love my country and I’ve always been proud to say I’m Haitian,” she said in an earlier interview with the Grio. Even when there were negative connotations back in the day, I never shied away from saying where I’m from and being proud of it.”

Kamala Harris’ love of Doritos has right-wing supporters of Donald Trump highly upset, leaving many on social media noting how weird that is.As Kamala Harris is out on the campaign trail as the Democratic nominee for president, the latest attack on her by Republicans is focusing on her choice of snack food – Doritos. The attacks came over the weekend, as Vice President Harris made a stop at a Sheetz gas station and convenience store in Pennsylvania. She was accompanied by Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. When Emhoff handed her a bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos, Harris was delighted which prompted a reporter to ask if they were her favorite. This is my go-to. The original, nacho cheese,” Harris replied.

The road trip moment didn’t seem to go over well with pundits on the right. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the former Survivor cast member and co-host of The View, appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program on Friday (August 16) to express her disdain. “You just talked about Kamala Harris supposedly eating a bag of Doritos,” she began, “That’s potentially your commander-in-chief. That’s the emotional response of the leader of the free world is to binge-eat a bag of Doritos? Can you imagine Putin chugging down a bag of Sour Patch Kids?”

Others online chimed in, saying the moments felt “forced” as an attack on Harris’ appeal to the public. But many others called out how nonsensical those attacks were, and wondered why right-wingers were still supporting Donald Trump with his abundance of flaws as a candidate. “But Donald munching down KFC and mainlining Ketchup is ok?”, wrote Eddie Pierce in a post on X, formerly Twitter. Another X user wrote, “What are they even complaining about anymore? These aren’t normal or serious people.” Walz’s campaign team also responded with a sly jab in a post, showing Walz handing Harris a bag of Doritos during a visit to another Sheetz in Moon Township, Pennsylvania on Sunday (August 18).

Donald Trump’s comments on the campaign trail have raised alarms from those noting his “unwell” behavior and media’s reluctance to call it out.
The mounting collection of bizarre remarks by Donald Trump on the presidential campaign trail has caused observers to note how “deeply unwell” he is and to question why more media outlets and figures aren’t calling for an examination of his mental faculties. “(But) Trump is obviously unfit—and something is profoundly wrong with a political environment in which he can now say almost anything, no matter how weird,” writes Tom Nichols for The Atlantic in a column, pointing to Trump’s most recent rally this past weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, which left many observers aghast.

At that campaign rally, Trump went into a rambling rant about electric batteries and sharks: “So I said, let me ask you a question, and he said, nobody ever asked this question and it must be because of MIT, my relationship to MIT. Very smart. He goes, I say, what would happen if the boat sank from its weight? And you’re in the boat and you have this tremendously powerful battery and the battery is now underwater and there’s a shark that’s approximately 10 yards over there, by the way, a lot of shark attacks lately, do you notice that?”

“I am not a psychiatrist, and I am not diagnosing Trump with anything. I am, however, a man who has lived on this Earth for more than 60 years, and I know someone who has severe emotional problems when I see them played out in front of me over and over,” Nichols wrote, adding: “The 45th president is deeply unwell. It is long past time for Americans, including those in public life, to recognize his inability to serve as the 47th.” EJ Montini of the Arizona Republic has also called out the media’s reluctance in a column, writing: “Too many respectable journalists and respectable journalistic institutions have allowed the fear of appearing biased to prevent them from being honest.” He cited the Las Vegas remarks as “the kind of thing that would be worrisome if done by an elderly member of your family.”
As the presumptive Republican nominee continues to campaign, there seems to be no end to the comments. In a meeting with Republicans at Capitol Hill on Thursday, Trump stated that “Milwaukee, where we are having our convention, is a horrible city,” while also declaring – again – an affinity for fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter.

Senator Tim Scott showed up at the recent Republican presidential debate with his mystery girlfriend in tow, prompting a ton of reactions online. On Wednesday night, as the Republican presidential debate held in Miami, Florida ended, all of the candidates were greeted by their family members and spouses on stage. Eyebrows were raised as Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina was greeted by an unidentified blonde woman in a gray pantsuit. The two then posed for photos arm-in-arm as they grinned widely. It was an interesting development for Scott, the only Black GOP candidate who has been an ardent supporter of conservative family values but has been questioned by members of his party about his lack of a romantic life.

The woman was later confirmed by someone close to the campaign to be Mindy Noce, a design and renovations manager for a real estate firm in the Charleston, South Carolina area where Scott is from. Other sources confirmed that she is a mother of three children. Senator Scott, who has been firmly tight-lipped about his romantic relationships when queried by the press, also confirmed that Noce was his girlfriend when questioned by NBC News reporter Nnamdi Egwuonwu who first asked, “Any special guests with you today?” “All my guests are special,” Scott first responded before confirming. But he offered nothing more than the information that they had been seeing each other “for a year or so”.
The appearance of Scott’s girlfriend caused many online to register shock at the timing. Others took the opportunity to note that Noce’s presence seemed to be more of a highlight for Scott than his remarks at the debate. The moment also prompted others to speculate if their relationship was truly real, making comparisons of Scott to fellow South Carolina senator Lindsay Graham. Tim Scott is still viewed as an underdog in the race to be the GOP’s 2024 presidential nominee, despite some strong fundraising numbers.
We’ve put together some of the more notable online reactions to Tim Scott’s new paramour below.

1. The Intellectualist

2. Franklin Leonard

The film and television producer quipped: “Tim Scott’s girlfriend makes an appearance mere minutes after the SAG strike ends? I’m sure it’s just a coincidence. Never mind me.”

3. PettyLupone

“Did Tim Scott just launch his fake girlfriend story arc after one of the worst debate performances of all time?”, this X user asked.

4. SilverBeard aka SIR

This X user employed a meme of Mushmouth from Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids in reference to Scott while making light of the whole situation.

In an astonishing display, Kevin McCarthy’s bid to become the Speaker of the House was thwarted three times – by members of his own Republican Party.

The House of Representatives convened Tuesday (Jan. 3) to open the 118th Congress, with Republicans having a slim majority after the midterm elections last November. As the first vote to elect the Speaker of the House unfolded, the congressman from California fell short as he received 203 votes with 19 voting for Jim Jordan, the GOP representative from Ohio. The second vote bore out the same results, and the third and final vote in the chamber actually saw McCarthy lose a vote, making the tally 202 to Jordan’s 20.

The failed bids marked the first time since 1923 that an election for speaker went through multiple ballots. In contrast, the Democrats in the House displayed a firm and unified stance as they nominated Rep. Hakeem Jeffries to be Speaker in each round of voting with no defections.
Many observers point to a giant divide between McCarthy, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump to be in the role, and the 19 GOP members who represent the far-right segment of the party. This includes Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida and Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado. Boebert would later claim in a Fox News interview with Bret Baier that she and the other representatives had gone to McCarthy with a deal to help him attain the 218 votes needed for him to be Speaker but he “smugly refused.”
GOP members had also spent time Tuesday attempting to bargain with Democratic members of the House to not be present for the next round of votes so McCarthy could win. This was confirmed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who was seen talking with both Gaetz and oddly enough, Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona. “McCarthy was suggesting he could get Dems to walk away to lower his threshold,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “And I fact-checked and said absolutely not.”
Meanwhile, Kevin McCarthy is refusing to cave in his attempt to obtain the speakership as the House will vote again at noon Wednesday (Jan. 4). “I’m staying until we win,” he said to members of the press between the second and third votes. “I know the path.” Trump put out a call for unity among Republicans in a Truth Social post on Wednesday morning, saying “it’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House Members to VOTE FOR KEVIN.”

*UPDATE: After losing the 4th vote, It seems McCarthy is well on his way to losing a 5th, too.
