Cordae and Anderson .Paak are a dream team on “Two Tens” — kind of.
The “So With That” rapper released the new track Wednesday (Jan. 25), but the flashy video sees .Paak soaking up all the attention that comes with new girls in his orbit, while Cordae ponders if the extra attention, time and money required is even worth it.

The video sees Cordae pulling up to a club where he meets the Silk Sonic member, something that he didn’t necessarily want to do in the first place. “Me and my n—a Anderson decided to pull up to the club, and I don’t even like going out, but if my n—a tell me pull up, I pull up easy, you know?” the rapper narrates the video before officially launching into the sleek visual.

The J. Cole-produced track, which borrows elements from ’90s-era hip-hop in the instrumentation, tells a story, with Cordae attempting to be a voice of reason for .Paak, who can barely control his excitement.

“Man, I love this b—h/ We gon’ travel and fill up the bucket list/ Have ’bout 10 kids on the ranch on some southern sh–,” the “Leave the Door Open” singer spits, infatuated with a girl who showers him with attention in the club bathroom.

“You mean sucker sh–/ Slave to the p—y since you discovered it/ Ten bands on Chanel purse, that’s bad budgetin’/ Plus you n—as always together, it’s mad smotherin’/ You simpin’ over b—-es, I never thought it would come to this,” Cordae replies, judging — and lamenting — his friends’ actions.

“Two Tens” is not the first track that Cordae and .Paak have dropped together: The pair’s “RNP” collaboration, released in 2019, just became certified platinum.

In other Cordae news, the rapper is expecting his first child with tennis star Naomi Osaka, who announced the news on Jan. 11. “I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future,” she wrote in her Twitter announcement. “One thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, ‘that’s my mom,’ haha.”

The “Treat Me” singer shared a stunning image of herself draped in white and sheer fabric, holding her hands up in prayer. Bailey is seen at the center of a religious space and kneels in the middle of a floor surrounded by glowing white candles. “1ST PIECE. #PRAYITAWAY. JAN 27TH,” the 24-year-old wrote, indicating that her album’s first single is arriving this Friday.

Fans in the comments section were more than excited for the upcoming release. SZA hopped in the conversation and wrote, “I cannot WAIT !!!” while another user gushed over the visuals and said, “brooo this is sickening!!!”

Though there are currently no other details about In Pieces, Bailey’s Tuesday announcement revealed that the record will be released in March; an exact release date has yet to be shared.

In an interview with Essence, Chloe explained that the album is “everything that I’ve been going through, all the tearing down, people underestimating, telling me I can’t do it — all of those things have gone into the music.” She added, “The album is me picking myself up and talking myself out of any little place or space that the world has tried to put me in, that people and personal relationships have tried to put me in, and even [doing that to] myself. It’s me breaking free.”

Diddy is giving Mary J. Blige her flowers. The R&B and hip-hop producer spoke about the “Family Affair” singer — who earned six Grammy nominations this year for album Good Morning Gorgeous — for an interview with People published on Wednesday (Jan. 25), in which he detailed Blige’s impact on the music industry and women in R&B.

“Mary J. Blige is one of the greatest storytellers in R&B history,” the “Bad Boy for Life” rapper, whose real name is Sean Combs, told the outlet. “She created a lane for women around the world to speak their truth to power, so nobody deserves this success more than her.”

“More than being my sister and my best friend, she will forever be a pioneer and the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, who remains an unstoppable force that can accomplish anything she sets her mind to,” he added.

For Blige, the admiration is equal. “Puff was a huge inspiration for me,” she shared. “He wanted all of this for me more than I wanted it myself.”

Blige and Diddy’s working relationship and friendship extends back to the ’90s, when the producer — then known as Puff Daddy — worked with her at Uptown Records, and was instrumental in the production of her 1992 debut studio album, What’s the 411?, and its follow-up, 1994’s My Life. 411 peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, with My Life just one spot behind at No. 7.

The “Amazing” singer reflected on her upbringing with the magazine, and revealed that she initially was afraid of being hopeful about her music career. After meeting Diddy, she said, her feelings soon changed.

“I was not as ambitious as Puff. When I met him, I was afraid of success, afraid to do anything that could put so much attention on me. When you come from where I come from, you’re scared to be ambitious. You’re scared to want more,” she explained. “And then when I met him, he was the complete opposite. He was such a good thing for me because I needed what he had, to be excited to be seen, to have the lights on him. But it took some years to grow into that.”

Blige’s apprehension toward success is now a thing of the past. Single “Good Morning Gorgeous” is nominated for record of the year, best traditional R&B performance, best R&B song at the 2023 Grammy, while her album of the same name is up for best R&B album and album of the year. Album track “Here With Me” featuring Anderson .Paak is nominated for best R&B performance.

“When people reject you God selects you. #stillhere,” Blige wrote of her nominations via Instagram in November.

SOS: Things are definitely not all quiet on the SZA front. Though it’s only been less than two months since she dropped her critically-acclaimed, chart-dominating new album SOS, the R&B star is already teasing that there are still more projects from her on the horizon — all while sharing the love with fellow female artists like Miley Cyrus, whose single “Flowers” just debuted one slot ahead of SZA’s “Kill Bill” at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“MAJOR congrats to Miley !!!” SZA wrote Wednesday morning (Jan. 25), replying to a tweet about Cyrus’ recent chart triumph. “Excited for her album and to work together.”

It isn’t clear if by “work together,” SZA means a collaboration with the “Midnight Sky” singer, whose album Endless Summer Vacation is due out March 10. Billboard has reached out to both artists’ teams for comment.

Then, celebrating her own continued success on the Hot 100 — with songs from SOS occupying 12 spots on the most recent chart, dated Jan. 28 — the “Good Days” musician tweeted, “This is also wild as f–k,” before dropping a small bombshell: “Surprises coming soon.”

Released on Jan. 13, “Flowers” is Cyrus’ second ever No. 1 single (following 2013’s “Wrecking Ball”) as well as her first to debut in the top spot. Meanwhile, SZA’s SOS is still going strong atop the Billboard 200, logging its sixth consecutive week at No. 1 on the chart this week.

The shoutout to Cyrus isn’t the first time in recent weeks that SZA has graciously shared her spotlight with another superstar female musician. Following false speculation from fans that the two were fighting one another in real life for chart success, SZA praised Taylor Swift‘s Midnights and congratulated her on the historic Hot 100 reign of lead single “Anti-Hero” earlier this month.

“Congratulations to tay tay!” SZA posted on Instagram Stories. “And thank you so much your album and writing is phenomenal ..as ALWAYS.”

Swift had also written on her story that she’d been “listening to SZA’s album nonstop.” “Absolutely adore her music,” the “All Too Well” singer-songwriter added. “So much love and respect for her!!!”

Pharrell Williams has collaborated with some of the most iconic artists of our time. But on Tuesday (Jan. 24) Skateboard P kicked it up a notch when he visited Élysée Palace for a hang with French President Emmanuel Macron for a discussion about internet safety and human rights.

“A safe place for all, secure and open, peaceful and democratic, which respects human rights,” Macron tweeted along with a picture of the two men posing in black suits in a gilded palace room with the reflection of a giant chandelier in the window behind them. “That’s what the Internet must be and remain, especially for our children. It’s one of our battles. Artists, join us, and speak out! Thank you @Pharrell for your commitment.”

Pharrell retweeted the image and added a prayer hands emoji in comments. RTL reported that a spokesperson for Macron said [in comments translated from French] that the pair discussed “the digital world,” adding that they “got on really well. Pharrell Williams is very involved in the issues of the harmful effects of the internet and [smart] telephones on young people… It’s good because he [Pharrell] really reaches a big audience and he is very fine in his analysis.” Combating school and online bullying is a cause championed by Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron.

Pharrell is slated to appear at Wednesday night’s (Jan. 24) Yellow Pieces gala, a musical charity event that raises funds for the Hospital Foundation, a charity chaired by the country’s First Lady; Blackpink and French artists Vianni, Angel, Mika and Pascal Obispo are also slated to perform at the show at the Zenith Paris.

After nearly two years of dropping a string of singles, including “Have Mercy” and “Treat Me,” Chloe Bailey is unveiling her highly anticipated solo debut album.

The 24-year-old singer took to Instagram on Tuesday (Jan. 24) to reveal that her upcoming album, titled In Pieces, will be arriving in March 2023, though the exact release date has yet to be shared.

Along with the announcement, Bailey shared a video in which she’s seen in a sleek red leather gown, acting as a scale as she holds a human heart on one arm and a sphere on the other. “Wear my heart on my sleeve / They all say I’m naive / But it’s better than nothing,” she’s heard singing in the background over an ethereal melody.

Chloe’s sister, Halle Bailey, shared a sweet comment in support. “wooooo!!!!!!” she wrote beneath the post. As part of Chloe x Halle, the sister duo released two albums — 2018’s The Kids Are Alright and 2020’s Ungodly Hour.

“It’s everything that I’ve been going through, all the tearing down, people underestimating, telling me I can’t do it — all of those things have gone into the music,” Chloe previously explained of her upcoming solo LP. “The album is me picking myself up and talking myself out of any little place or space that the world has tried to put me in, that people and personal relationships have tried to put me in, and even [doing that to] myself. It’s me breaking free.”

We just found out about the second point in Jack Harlow‘s super spicy “love triangle.” On Tuesday morning (Jan. 24), Doritos unveiled the second preview of its Super Bowl LVII ad, revealing that none other than hip-hop icon Missy Elliott is getting in on the snack attack.

In the 15-second preview, Elliott is chilling at the studio surrounded by platinum record plaques (holding a bag of Doritos, of course) when her phone rings with a call she’s been waiting for. “Jack Harlow,” she practically sings upon answering. “What’s up? Collab? You know I’ve been waiting to collab,” she tells the unseen “First Class” MC.

“A love triangle?” Elliott then adds incredulously. “I don’t know about that.” According to Doritos, both rappers will appear in the big game ad slated to run during the Feb. 12 game at State Farm Stadium in Glandale, Arizona.

In the previous ad starring Harlow, he walks down a red carpet as paparazzi scream his name, with one snapper in particular smushing his face up against the limo window to ask Jack a very important question. As Harlow gets a moment’s peace inside his ride and begins digging into a bag of the brand’s new sweet and tangy BBQ Doritos, the pap yells, “Is it true about the love triangle?” Harlow considers the question before popping a three-corner chip into his mouth and slyly saying, “Maybe.” The photog, however, mishears him and yells, “Baby? You’re having a baby?”

Harlow is just one of the A-list names on tap for this year’s championship game, joining Rihanna, who will be headlining the halftime show. Last year’s viral Doritos SB ad featured Megan Thee Stallion and 2021’s was soundtracked by Queen’s 1984 hit “I Want to Break Free” and famously featured actor Matthew McConaughey in the bizarro role of #FlatMatthew. The 2020 version featured a dance-off between Lil Nas X and Sam Elliott in a wild west showdown cued to LNX’s global hit “Old Town Road.”

Attorneys hired by Jay-Z and other entertainers have ended two lawsuits they filed on behalf of Mississippi inmates in 2020 over what they said were squalid living conditions at the state’s oldest prison — a facility that came under Justice Department scrutiny after outbursts of deadly violence by inmates.

Even before the violence at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman in late 2019 and early 2020, state health inspectors had found repeated problems with broken toilets and moldy showers. Inmates said some cell doors did not lock, and it was common to see rats and roaches.

The lawsuits were dismissed Jan. 13 after the inmates’ attorneys and the state Department of Corrections said improvements have been made during the past three years, including installing air conditioning in most of the prison, renovating some bathrooms and updating the electrical, water and sewer systems.

In April, the U.S. Justice Department issued a report that said Parchman had violated inmates’ constitutional rights. The department said the prison failed to protect inmates from violence, meet their mental health needs or take adequate steps for suicide prevention, and that the prison had relied too much on prolonged solitary confinement.

The Justice Department spent two years investigating Parchman. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke said in April that Mississippi Department of Corrections officials cooperated with the investigation and pledged to resolve problems.

U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock in northern Mississippi filed the order this month dismissing the lawsuits that were funded by Jay-Z; rapper Yo Gotti; and Team Roc, the philanthropic arm of Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. In a court filing, attorneys for the plaintiffs and for the defendants in the Mississippi Department of Corrections agreed that nobody involved in the lawsuits admitted liability or responsibility to anyone else in the suits.

“We’re pleased that Parchman has started to address the cruel and inhumane prison conditions after the Department of Justice’s investigation, but we aren’t satisfied with short-term improvements,” Mario Mims, who goes by the stage name Yo Gotti, said in a statement Monday (Jan. 22). “The Mississippi Department of Corrections has neglected these torturous living conditions for decades, so we will continue to hold them accountable and ensure they commit to creating long-lasting change that safely protects their incarcerated population.”

One lawsuit was filed in January 2020 and the other was filed a month later. They two were eventually merged. The second suit said Parchman was a violent, rat-infested place where inmates lived in “abhorrent conditions” and their medical needs were routinely ignored.

Burl Cain, a former Louisiana prison warden, became commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Corrections in May 2020 and vowed to improve conditions at Parchman. Since then, the department has moved some inmates to other prisons. Parchman had more than 3,200 inmates in December 2019; it has about 2,450 this month.

“The Mississippi Department of Corrections appreciates the tremendous responsibility of housing individuals sentenced to our care, custody and control and has always been committed to continuously improving the living conditions of the individuals housed in all of our correctional facilities, including the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman,” Courtney Cockrell, an attorney for the department, said in a statement Monday. “Accordingly, we have and will continue to make diligent efforts to improve the quality of life for all individuals in the custody of the MDOC and provide them with opportunities to successfully return to their communities.”

Violence has been a longstanding problem in Mississippi prisons, where many jobs for guards have gone unfilled. Officials with the state Department of Corrections have said for years that it is difficult to find people to work as guards because of low pay, long hours and dangerous conditions. The state increased pay during the past two years.

The Justice Department said last year that it found “gross understaffing” and “uncontrolled gang activity.” It also found that insufficient security gave inmates “unfettered access to contraband.” Parchman was founded in 1901 on the site of a former plantation. For decades, inmates worked in a farming operation that critics said was akin to slavery.

03 Greedo shared the news Sunday that he’s out of prison after serving nearly five years behind bars.

“Yes, I am free from prison but I am still not completely out,” the rapper wrote in a lengthy Instagram note. “For anyone confused I am in a halfway house for up to 6 months with a five minute phone call a week. Where I am I just want to see my daughter and record music. I wish I could have released alot more music while I was away.”

He went on to explain that he carried a “chip on [his] shoulder” because of the situation and would like to “just go record n drop at least 12 tapes before my major album.”

“I honestly just don’t want to talk to alot of people yet,” Greedo added. “I got a lot I want to clear in my head first. So, if I’m not recording with you or laying with you. I’m not inna rush to talk after damn near 5 years. Just being honest!”

He then signed off by thanking his loyal fans and support system for “keeping me alive while I was incarcerated.”

In July 2018 — just one month after dropping his debut album God Level — the rapper born Jason Jamal Jackson was sentenced to 20 years in prison on charges of drug trafficking and possession of a firearm. While serving his sentence, Greedo still managed to release a steady stream of music, including 2019’s Still Summer in the Projects, 2019’s Netflix & Deal with Kenny Beats, 2020’s Load It Up Vol. 01 with Ron-Ron The Producer and “Substance (We Woke Up),” his 2021 collab with Wiz Khalifa.
