IDLES frontman Joe Talbot used the band’s set at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound on Thursday (June 5) to offer full-throated support for Palestine.
The lead singer shouted “Viva Palestina!” from the stage at Barcelona’s Parc del Fòrum and led the crowd in a minuteslong chant of the Spanish phrase. At one point in between songs, Talbot asked the crowd: “Donde esta las Palestinas?” (which translates to “Where are the Palestinians?” in English). He also dedicated the group’s set to Palestine.

After kicking off with their 2018 track “Colossus,” the British post-punk outfit’s festival set also included recent singles like “Dancer,” “Grace” and “Gift Horse” from their latest U.K. No. 1 album, 2024’s Tangk, as well as earlier songs including 2018’s “Danny Nedelko,” 2019’s “Never Fight a Man with a Perm” and 2021’s “Car Crash.”

Known for their outspoken political activism, Primavera Sound is hardly the first time IDLES have used their platform to stand in solidarity for Palestinian rights amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. At their London release show for Tangk in early 2024, Talbot reportedly altered the lyrics of multiple songs, including “The Wheel” and “Danny Nedelko,” to reference Palestine.

He also dedicated Brutalism-era album cut “Mother” to the Palestinian people during the band’s appearance at Glastonbury 2024, telling the crowd at Somerset’s Worthy Farm, “This song is a celebration of all the insults that I was thrown over the years, and I tried to turn it into something beautiful. … This is for the people of Palestine and this is for you. Any scumbags in the audience?”

Earlier this year, IDLES performed a benefit concert for the Los Angeles Fire Department following the 2025 Grammys, where they were nominated for best rock album, best rock song and best rock performance.

Primavera Sound continues throughout this weekend, with headlining sets from Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Charli xcx. Northern Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap, who have been similarly vocal in their support for Palestine, is also on the Primavera Sound bill.

Glory be to the father (Charli XCX), the son (Sabrina Carpenter) and the holy spirit (Chappell Roan). Amen.
Shortly after the Primavera Sound lineup was announced Thursday (Oct. 24), featuring all three women with top billing, the “365” singer took to X to declare that she and her co-headliners have now officially formed a sacred union.

“headlining primavera sound next year with sabrina and chappell,” Charli tweeted. “finally holy trinity unlocked ;)”

Taking place at Barcelona’s Parc Del Fòrum June 5-7, the festival’s lineup will also feature sets from LCD Soundsystem, FKA Twigs, Fontaines DC, Clairo, Haim, Turnstile, Wet Leg, Beach House, Waxahatchee, Beabadoobee, Caribou, Anohni, Denzel Curry and more. The Brat summer ring leader previously performed at 2024’s iteration of Primavera Sound, which was headlined by Lana Del Rey, SZA and more.

Regarding Charli’s tweet, it’s easy to see the connection between her, the “Espresso” singer and “Good Luck, Babe!” musician. All three pop stars had explosive breakthrough years in 2024, with the “Von Dutch” artist’s LP Brat reaching No. 3, Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet hitting No. 1 and Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess ascending to No. 2 on the Billboard 200. All three of those chart peaks mark career highs for the artists.

Charli is now in the midst of her Sweat Tour with Troye Sivan in support of Brat. In a recent interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, the “Boom Clap” artist revealed that she originally didn’t think her latest album would “appeal to a lot of people,” something that partially inspired her now-iconic lime-green text-only cover art.

“Where the actual first idea of doing a text cover came from was to save money,” she said at the time. “It actually feels like it very much embodies the word ‘brat’ to kind of not be there, because that is sort of less of the norm, I suppose, for female artists. That felt punchy. The pixilation makes it looks like it’s kind of been done in this rush … you didn’t get the proper hi-res file… I knew it would generate this conversation. I knew that a lot of people would be sort of frustrated or disappointed by it.”

Lorde‘s Solar Power Tour had double the star power Sunday night (Nov. 6). Stopping through Brazil to perform at the Primavera Sound festival, the 26-year-old singer-songwriter brought out fellow alt-pop star Phoebe Bridgers to perform “Stoned at the Nail Salon” — a song the two collaborated on last year for Lorde’s Solar Power.

“I wanted to sing a song that means a lot to me, and a song that probably wouldn’t exist without this person,” Lorde told her audience while introducing the “Motion Sickness” singer. “It’s a pretty direct channel of inspiration between me and this wonderful artist.”

“Please give the warmest welcome to Phoebe Bridgers,” she concluded, the crowd going wild in response.

Bridgers then walked out onstage and hugged the “Royals” singer before the two sat down on one of the set pieces onstage — an enormous replica of a sundial that’s been present throughout Lorde’s Solar Power tour, which kicked off in April this year. With the audience loudly belting the lyrics along with them, the pair sang the soft main melody of “Stoned at the Nail Salon” together.

The song was one of two tracks to which Bridgers lent background vocals ti on Lorde’s third studio record Solar Power, which was produced by Jack Antonoff and released in August 2021. The “Kyoto” musician, along with Clairo, also sang on the album’s lead single and title track, “Solar Power.”

“I love those girls so much,” Lorde said of Bridgers and Clairo in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe last year. “I was like, ‘Who are my most God-tier female vocalist friends that could be on this?’ And they both just crushed. It was such a pleasure for me to have them.”

“So talented, so cool and I’ve never had any other voices on my songs,” she added at the time. “This is the first time people were singing with me. I just knew it had to be a gang.”
