The Democratic National Convention is officially underway, and Vice President Kamala Harris couldnât wait until the final night to hit the stage.
The Democratic nominee for president of the United States made a surprise appearance on Tuesday night at the United Center in Chicago, on night one of the Democratic National Convention.
VP Harris hit the stage in what many consider the ultimate troll move, rocking a tan ChloĂ© pants suit while her official campaign anthem, BeyoncĂ©âs âFreedom,â blared throughout the arena.
Saving her full remarks for when she takes the stage on Thursday, the final day of the four-night convention, the presidential hopeful briefly addresses the surprised roaring crowd, which includes her husband, the second gentleman, Doug Emhoff.
Per The Daily Beast:
âTonight I see the beauty of our great nation,â Harris continued. âPeople from every corner of our country and every walk of life are here, united by our shared vision for the future of our country.
âAnd this November we will come together and declare with one voice, as one people: We are moving forward⊠guided by our love of country, knowing we all have so much more in common than what separates us.
âLet us fight for the ideals we hold dearâand let us always remember when we fightâŠâ
The crowd erupted, chanting back âWe win!â
VP Harrisâ Surprise Appearance Was One Of The Nightâs Many Highlights
Harrisâ surprise appearance, along with speeches from fellow Democrats like U.S. Reps. Jasmine Crockett and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock, current First Lady Jill Biden, and others, set the stage for current POTUS Joe Biden, who closed out the night with a powerful speech.
During his speech, Biden touted his administrationâs many accomplishments, thanked the voters, praised his VP, and officially passed the torch to her on the stage.
Night one of the DNC was a stark contrast to the RNC and showed how much better a convention is when you have permission to use artistsâ songs and a way better lineup of speakers.
Users on X, formerly Twitter, couldnât get enough of VP Harris and her tan drip.
You can see those reactions in the gallery below.

President Joe Biden received a massive response for his keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention, moving him to emotion beforehand.
On Monday night (Aug. 19), President Joe Biden took the stage at the Democratic National Convention after being introduced by his daughter, Ashley. He wiped tears from his eyes as the crowd at the United Center in Chicago roared with a chant of âWe love Joe!!â Attendees held up signs that read, âWe (heart) Joeâ as the Delaware delegation donned aviator sunglasses similar to what the commander-in-chief wears during the standing ovation, which reportedly lasted four minutes.
âItâs been the honor of my lifetime to serve as your president,â Mr. Biden said in a moving speech that would encapsulate his five-decade career in politics. âI love the job, but I love my country more. All this talk about how Iâm angry at all those people (who) said I should step down â thatâs not true. I love my country more, and we need to preserve our democracy in 2024,â he stated, referring to the many calls requesting that he step down as the presidential nominee after his June debate against Republican nominee Donald Trump. âIâve made a lot of mistakes in my career, but I gave my best to you,â he said, which made the crowd cheer wildly.
President Biden touched on the events in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017 after white supremacists he referred to as âOld ghosts, and new garments,â overran the town, which compelled him to run. He also made it clear that he was passing on the torch to the presumptive nominee Vice President Kamala Harris â as the crowd began to chant âThank you, Joe,â he responded, âThank you Kamala, too!!â
He continued to praise her work, stating: âCrime will keep coming down when we put a prosecutor in the Oval Office instead of a convicted felon.â Biden would also touch on his work with fighting for voting and reproductive rights. âMAGA Republicans found out the power of women in 2022,â Biden said. âAnd Donald Trump is going to find out the power of women in 2024.â

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris greeted three former Russian political prisoners released as part of a massive swap on Thursday.
On Thursday (Aug. 1), three former prisoners in Russia arrived at Joint Air Base Andrews in Maryland before midnight, where they were greeted by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, and Radio Free Europe/Radio Free Liberty journalist Alsu Kurmasheva were released as part of a historic swap of prisoners between the U.S., Russia, Belarus, and other Western nations. Twenty-four people were freed overall in the largest exchange since the Cold War.
All three hugged and shook hands with President Biden and Vice President Harris in the emotional scene as their respective families came up to tearfully embrace them. The other prisoners freed in the deal included Russian dissidents such as Vladimir Kara-Murza. Russia received eight people, including four spies held in Norway and Slovenia and a convicted assassin serving time in Germany. Biden addressed the reporters on the tarmac, revealing that Sloveniaâs inclusion and assistance was crucial to getting the swap done. Harris thanked President Biden for his commitment to making the exchange happen. âThis is just an extraordinary testament to the importance of having a president who understands the power of diplomacy,â she said.
The exchange caught the world by surprise and marked another achievement for the Biden administration in its last months in office. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump derided the move in an interview with Fox Business. âAs usual, it was a win for Putin or any other country that deals with us,â he began. âBut we got somebody back. So, Iâm never going to be challenging that. It wouldnât have happened with us, we would have gotten it back.âÂ
White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said to reporters on Thursday that the current sanctions on Russia have not been loosened, and there was no money exchanged in the swap. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby dismissed Trumpâs statement in an interview, noting that Whelan and another former prisoner, Trevor Reed, were detained under the Trump administration and freed under Biden. âThatâs what you have to do when you have people in harmâs way over there. Youâve got to make these tough decisions. Itâs not easy,â he said.

Donald Trumpâs social media posts after President Joe Bidenâs decision not to run for re-election suggest that heâs worried.Donald Trumpâs social media reactions in the wake of President Joe Biden dropping out of the race for president on Sunday (July 21) have garnered heavy notice. So much so that it has led many to believe that heâs worried about the prospects of facing off against Vice President Kamala Harris, whom Biden endorsed shortly after announcing his decision. In his first public statement afterward with CNN, Trump said of Biden: âHe is the worst president in the history of our country. He goes down as the single worst president by far in the history of our country.â He also claimed, according to Kaitlan Collins, Harris would be easier to beat.
It wasnât too long after that, however, that Trump took to his Truth Social platform and fired off a series of posts aimed toward âCrooked Joe Bidenâ first writing that Biden âonly attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement.â Trump also hinted at blowing off the presidential debate set for September on ABC, claiming that âGeorge Slopadopolusâ should be replaced by a debate on Fox News.
On Monday morning (July 22), Trumpâs Truth Social posts fired up again at 6:19 A.M., furthering a conspiracy that President Biden does not have COVID-19 and joking about Biden waking up and not realizing he dropped out. He would also attack South Carolina Representative James Clyburn and rant about Special Counsel Jack Smith, writing that âAll of these Biden/Harris cases against me are a Weaponization of Justice against their Political Opponent, Meâ without directly addressing Vice President Harris until a post made in the early afternoon where he wrote: âJoe Biden will go down as the Worst President in the history of the United States. KAMALA, OUR HORRIBLE & INCOMPETENT BORDER CZAR, WILL BE WORSE!â
Those observing Trumpâs posts also called out the fact that with Biden out of the race, there should be more questions about Trumpâs age and mental stability than there were before. Democratic Representative Ted Lieu said as much in a post on X, formerly Twitter, writing: âTrumpâs cognitive decline is readily apparent. He makes incoherent rants at his rallies. He is the oldest person ever running for President. Trump should pass the torch and withdraw.â

On Sunday, July 21, President Joe Biden announced that he would not be seeking a second term.. While supporters were still catching their breath, he announced that he was endorsing his Vice President Kamala Harris for the gig, which was quickly met with widespread enthusiasm.
Taking to social media, President Biden said it was time for him to finish his term, and step aside. âWhile it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,â Biden wrote in a classy letter he posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. âI will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision.â
About an hour later, Biden made it clear that as far as next up, he was strictly team Kamala Harris. âToday I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats â itâs time to come together and beat Trump. Letâs do this,â wrote Biden on X.
Social media quickly went up for Joe Biden, saluting for a job well done in the last three and half years. Also targeted was how mainstream media so quickly turned on Biden after a bad debate, chaos in the Democratic party and generally how horrible Trump is at everything, yet he gets a pass.
But donât take our word for it, see some of the more zealous reactions in the gallery.

A CNN analyst took others to task for focusing on violent rhetoric after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, noting Trumpâs influence on its rise.
The assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on Saturday (July 13) has rattled the nation, with some pundits and media outlets focusing on the violent rhetoric that has been part of the political discourse instead of acknowledging Trumpâs role in ramping it up over the past few years along with other Republican politicians and figures. This was pointed out by CNN analyst and Chief Domestic Correspondent Phil Mattingly during a panel discussion on the network on Sunday afternoon (July 14). Mattingly got straight to the point with the host, Manu Raju.
âThe number of people I heard from last night, people who arenât diehard Trump supporters who have had just a visceral response to this and their belief that this was driven by things that have occurred, that Democrats have said or Democrats have acted upon over the course of the last year, itâs very real whether or not you believe the evidence behind it,â Mattingly began. âThe other thing I would say here is look, every speech Donald Trump gives, he talks about if Joe Biden wins, the country dies. If Joe Biden wins, everything is over â the Constitution falls apart,â he continued. âSo letâs be real here: this isnât because Joe Biden says Donald Trump is an existential threat.â
âBoth sides are saying the exact same thing here, so letâs be a little self-aware about what weâre talking about here,â he concluded. The segment comes as Republican lawmakers leaped to put the blame on Democrats for violent rhetoric online. But social media users pointed out the hypocrisy of these lawmakers, which include Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene making a series of posts on X, formerly Twitter, naming her Democratic colleagues as the ones allegedly fueling the chatter. Others pointed out how some Republican lawmakers showed up in Congress sporting AR-15 pins â the same weapon used in the assassination attempt â last year.Â

The New York Times published an editorial calling for Donald Trump to drop out of the presidential raceâfar too late, social media users expressed.A new article from the New York Times editorial board is calling for former president Donald Trump to step down. âHe is dangerous in words, deed, and actionâ, the article titled âDonald Trump Is Unfit To Leadâ begins in all capital letters, going on to state that he âhas shown a character unworthy of the responsibilities of the presidency.â The op-ed only consists of a few paragraphs, and details the dissatisfaction of the American public and the ways that the Republican Party has submitted to Trump, described as âa man as demonstrably unsuited for the office of president as any to run in the long history of the Republic, a man whose values, temperament, ideas and language are directly opposed to so much of what has made this country great.â
The article also touches on the current calls for President Joe Biden to end his campaign to be re-elected as president as a contrast to how bad of a candidate Trump is, calling the debate ârightfulâ. âThis debate is so intense because of legitimate concerns that Mr. Trump may present a danger to the country, its strength, security and national character â and that a compelling Democratic alternative is the only thing that would prevent his return to power.â It ends by stating: âWe urge voters to see the dangers of a second Trump term clearly and to reject it. The stakes and significance of the presidency demand a person who has essential qualities and values to earn our trust, and on each one, Donald Trump fails.âÂ
Many online werenât too pleased with the Timesâ opinion piece was published a day after it published an opinion article from Academy Award-winning actor George Clooney, who had called for President Biden to drop out of the race. Some decried the move as a last-ditch attempt to save subscribers, who have been canceling their subscriptions to the newspaper over their perceived refusal to cover Donald Trumpâs misdeeds to focus on the debate over some Democrats wanting Biden to step down as the partyâs nominee. Some did laud the Times for finally declaring the position in clear, bold terms.

George Clooneyâs New York Times editorial calling for President Joe Biden to remove himself from the 2024 presidential election race has drawn sharp criticism on social media.Turmoil has ensued as several media figures and some Democratic lawmakers have called on President Joe Biden to step aside as the nominee in the 2024 presidential election in the last two weeks. These voices were joined by Academy Award-winning actor George Clooney, who penned an opinion piece published in the New York Times calling for Biden to bow out on Wednesday (July 10). âI love Joe BidenâŠIn the last four years, heâs won many of the battles heâs faced. But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can,â he wrote.
Clooney would go on to state that Bidenâs demeanor during his lackluster debate performance against presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump was similar to what he witnessed at a major fundraiser for Bidenâs campaign three weeks prior. Clooneyâs call for Biden to drop out was surprising â the actor is considered to be a strong friend of the president, as well as former President Barack Obama, and has lent his support to the Democratic Party frequently in the past. In the op-ed, he acknowledges that relationship and admits that if Biden were to step down it would be âmessyâ but worth the confusion.
It didnât land that way for many on social media, who viewed the 63-year-old actorâs article as only helping the Republicans and Donald Trump. Others called him out for being another entitled white male figure to add their name to the push, remarking that he is living comfortably in a villa on Lake Como in Italy. Clooney even got blasted by Trump in a post that he made on Truth Social. So now fake movie actor George Clooney, who never came close to making a great movie, is getting into the act,â Trump wrote. âHeâs turned on Crooked Joe like the rats they both are. What does Clooney know about anything?â Former Fox News host Greta Van Susteren also chided Clooney in a post on X, formerly Twitter, writing: âHe is close to Biden..why didnât he just TALK to him privately and to the family?â

President Joe Biden and his showing at the first presidential debate with Donald Trump reportedly set off alarms throughout campaign insiders and the Democratic Party. In a new interview, President Joe Biden showed some of the determined grit that some observers felt was missing from his campaign and displayed confidence in his abilities to return to the White House for a second term.
President Joe Biden called into the Monday (July 8) edition of MSNBCâs Morning Joe and called out members of his party who were said to be doubtful of his chances of maintaining the pace and vigor needed to carry the campaign. In a brazen move, President Biden didnât name names but did aim sharp barbs at critics instead of rallying around the will of the people.
âIâm getting so frustrated by the elites in the party. They know so much more,â Biden said with measurable defiance. âIf any of these guys donât think I should run, run against me. Go ahead. Announce for president, challenge me at the convention.â
Several House Democrats have gone on record to call for President Biden to drop out of the race, and the president also plans to speak with veteran party leaders to assure them of his intentions to remain in the fight.
âI donât think what those big names think,â Biden said. âThey were wrong in 2020. They were wrong in 2022 about the red wave. Theyâre wrong in 2024.â
In addition to the tough talk from Biden on Morning Joe, the president also sent a letter to Democrats in Congress who may be concerned about his ability and health to withstand the brutal campaign trail ahead.
âI wouldnât be running again if I did not absolutely believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024,â Biden wrote in the letter. âWe had a Democratic nomination process and the voters have spoken clearly and decisively.â
News of President Joe Bidenâs Morning Joe interview and the letter to Congress has sparked some reactions on X, formerly Twitter. Weâve got those reactions below.

Waka Flocka told those at a recent show who supported President Joe Biden to âget outâ, which was promptly derided by social media users. The fallout from the debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump last week continues, as noted Trump ally Waka Flocka has chimed in at one of his shows with the moment captured on video. Waka Flocka was performing at a show at Club Sky in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 27 when he paused and addressed the crowd. âAll Joe Biden voters, get out of my concert. Weâre gonna see yâall later at the bingo game. Weâre gonna party right now for T24,â he said, referencing Trumpâs current campaign for the presidency. That got a mixed reaction from the crowd with some raising their arms and cheering, while others booed audibly and others didnât react at all. From that point, his DJ played a recent single, âItâs A Partyâ which is dedicated to the Republican nominee.

Reactions to the moment online were as mixed as what was heard from the crowd. Another flatly said, âThatâs why he fell off.â
Waka Flockaâs support of Trump has become more visible within the past few years, joining other rappers who have thrown their support in with the former president. At his campaign rally in the Bronx, Trump appeared on stage with Brooklyn drill rappers Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow, who are both under indictment for a litany of charges including murder after their arrest last year. Sexxy Red has also expressed her support for Trump, explaining why in a podcast interview with Theo Von: âOnce he started getting Black people out of jail and giving people that free money.
