Order up! Chappell Roan is serving fans a behind-the-scenes look at her “Hot to Go!” music video in honor of the track’s one-year anniversary, posting footage from the shoot in her hometown of Springfield, Missouri on YouTube Wednesday (Aug. 14).
The clip opens with Roan fielding questions from an over-curious stranger passing by the video shoot, who doesn’t recognize her and repeatedly asks her if she’s in a rock band. “I’m just a singer, nothing crazy,” she tells him, not knowing then just how astronomically her star would rise in the year ahead of her.
The video then shows various footage of Roan traversing past landmarks of her hometown, including a large horse mural, a fork-shaped sculpture and a theater. While at a mini-golf course, the “Good Luck, Babe!” singer says, “Wait, there’s so many people … I’m so embarrassed,” before hardening her resolve: “You know what? It doesn’t matter.”

“In my hometown, I feel so much less stressed,” she adds later on.
The 26-year-old musician also took a moment to thank a few of her costars in the project — drag performers Tina HC, Ether and Preston Schaeffer — for their participation. The “Hot to Go!” video finds Roan teaching them her song’s corresponding dance moves before they all perform the “YMCA”-esque choreography as a group. “I’m very lucky to have queens and trans people a part of this,” says the star, who’s long been open about how drag has inspired her as a performer. “It’s such a big honor.”
Produced by Dan Nigro, “Hot to Go!” was released almost exactly one year ago on Aug. 11, 2023, and its music video dropped that same day. The Jackie! Zhou-directed visual also shows Roan teaching the song’s dance to her grandparents and a group of fans in Springfield, as well as singing and dancing using bleachers, a gas station and monster trucks as backdrops.
Since the release of the song, which preceded Roan’s Billboard 200 top 10 hit album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, it has steadily climbed the Billboard Hot 100 and recently reached a new peak of No. 17. Five other songs from the LP — “Pink Pony Club,” “Red Wine Supernova,” “Casual,” “Femininomenon” and new entry “My Kink Is Karma” — are also on the chart dated Aug. 17, 2024.
Roan honored the song’s one-year anniversary during her Aug. 11 set at Outside Lands by wearing the blue leotard she wears in the music video onstage. She also laid down the law when a group of fans in the festival’s VIP section refused to do the “Hot to Go!” dance with her, scolding: “It’s so weird that VIP thinks they’re so way too cool to do this! You’re not fun! Be fun and try!”

“I heard a song a little while ago at my birthday, and I loved it, and it was on one of my friend’s playlists. And then, I went down a rabbit hole on Monday. All day long,” Adele said.
The “Rolling in the Deep” singer continued, “She is spectacular, and it turns out, she’s not just got one song. She’s got, like, seven fucking brilliant songs. I think she’s absolutely amazing. I’m very excited for her, but my friend also said she’s a bit scared. So, do what you gotta do, baby girl, but you’re phenomenal.

“Anyway, that’s all I’ve done this week is discover Chappell Roan.”
The glowing endorsement couldn’t come at a better time for Roan, who recently entered the Billboard Hot 100 with her single “Casual,” currently sitting at No. 79. Her standalone single “Good Luck Babe!” has climbed to No. 10 on the Hot 100, marking her first top 10 hit. Additionally, Roan’s debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess has reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200. Internationally, “Hot To Go!” entered the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart at No. 200.
Originally from Willard, Missouri, Roan has been making waves with her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, which blends confessional lyrics with a theatrical pop style.
Adele’s Munich residency, set to conclude at the end of August, has already been marked by several memorable moments, including her public engagement reveal. As she wraps up the series of shows, her praise for Roan is likely to draw even more attention to the emerging artist, whose star continues to rise in the music world.

Brat Summer is a state of mind, but in actuality, the season will come to an end in about a month. Before it does, though, Charli XCX is teasing that one more surprise is on its way — and it just might involve another guest artist putting a new spin on one of her critically acclaimed album’s tracks.
In a TikTok posted Wednesday (Aug. 14), the 32-year-old pop star walks outside while singing along to a fan-made mash-up of her single “360” and Fleetwood Mac’s iconic hit “Dreams.” “I’m in Poland.. there’s a whiff of autumn in the breeze..,” she wrote in white text over the video. “Something is shifting.”
“maybe one more remix and then ?” she added in the caption.

If the video’s audio is any hint as to what song will be reimagined next, “360” could be getting a second remix following the previously released version featuring Robyn and Yung Lean. Or, Charli could be planning to expand upon any of her other Brat tracks, something fans took to the comments to speculate on.
One person, for instance, suggested that “Apple” — which has inspired one of the summer’s trendiest TikTok dances — should get a Midwest Princess twist. “apple featuring chappell roan i plead,” they wrote.
“sympathy is a knife ft taylor,” another person predicted, likely alluding to rumors that the English singer-songwriter penned the track about Taylor Swift.
The latter isn’t totally out of the realm of possibility, given the story behind the “Girl, So Confusing” remix featuring Lorde. After writing the song about her tense relationship with the “Supercut” musician, Charli recruited her to transform it into a duet, restoring their friendship to solidly good terms in the process.
Other previous Brat remixes include “Von Dutch” featuring Addison Rae and, most recently, “Guess” featuring Billie Eilish, which debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2019, Billboard‘s staff revealed its picks for the greatest pop star of every year dating back to 1981 (the first year of MTV, essentially the birth of the modern pop era), with essays making the case for each as the biggest, brightest and most important star in their solar system that calendar year. For the last few years, we’ve also counted down our picks for the 10 greatest pop stars of the 12-month period, with each getting their own year-in-review tribute from one of our staffers. (Our picks for the No. 1 Greatest Pop Star of the Year this decade have included BTS, Bad Bunny and Taylor Swift.)
But with the quarter-century mark coming up, we decided it was a good time to zoom out a little bit on the whole last 25 years in pop stardom. And so this week, we begin our countdown of the 25 Greatest Pop Stars of the 21st Century: a list attempting to take stock of the pop stars who have been most important and most impactful in the U.S. over that timespan. We will be unveiling our list over the course of the next four months, unveiling one or two artists a week, along with our usual essays commemorating each artist — as well as additional articles focusing on different aspects of their careers and rounding up their chart achievements, and regular podcast and video discussions of our chosen stars’ careers and legacies. We hope it will all serve to properly celebrate the 25 artists who have most defined the pop music and pop culture of the first 25% of this century, and to help provide an accurate snapshot of how the sound, look and overall meaning of pop superstardom have evolved over that period.
First, however — we must acknowledge that 25 is simply nowhere near a big-enough number to properly acknowledge all the pop stars who have dominated the charts and moved the culture since Y2K. So with that in mind, we’re starting off our rollout of this project with a quick unranked list of our Honorable Mention picks for the best of the rest: the 25 pop stars who were great enough to get strong consideration for our top 25, but ultimately just didn’t quite have either the stats, the impact, the longevity or the volume to elbow their way into our main list. We love ’em all just the same, and we couldn’t kick off this project in earnest without giving them their proper due first.
And we must also issue our obligatory reminder that unlike with our Year-End Charts, these Greatest Pop Stars are NOT mathematically determined by stats like chart position, streams or sales numbers. Those play a big part in our final rankings, of course — you can’t be one of the greatest pop stars of the century without great pop hits and great pop albums — but so do things like music videos, live performances and social media presence, and more intangible factors like cultural importance, industry influence and overall omnipresence. (And we’re measuring this over all 25 years of this century so far, so if you were only heard from at the beginning or the end of that period — or only had one or two big songs, albums or eras — that’s gonna significantly hinder your ranking here as well.)
Here are our 25 picks, presented alphabetically, for the closest-but-not-quite pop stars — the Nos. 26-50 Greatest Pop Stars of the 21st Century, essentially — and check back throughout the next few months as we count down our top 25, and officially name our Greatest Pop Star of the 21st Century this autumn.

The announcement comes a month after the 26-year-old singer’s label, BigHit, cryptically teased that I Am Still was “coming soon” to theaters, withholding any further details and sending ARMY spiralling. “WHAT IS THIS,” one person tweeted at the time, while another person wrote with disbelief, “WHAT DO YOU MEAN JUNGKOOK ON CINEMAS!?!?!?!?!?!?”
Jung Kook previously hinted that he was working on a documentary about his solo efforts in a November episode of Suchwita, the YouTube talk show hosted by his bandmate SUGA. “It follows the process from ‘Seven’ to my album,” he said at the time, according to the show’s English translation. “When you film with other members, the cameras aren’t all focused on you. But I always feel kind of pressured talking in front of a camera alone.”
The “3D” musician is also currently starring in a travel docu-series alongside bandmate Jimin on Disney+. Chronicling the friends’ trips through destinations in the U.S., South Korea and Japan, Are You Sure?! premiered Aug. 8 and will continue dropping episodes through Sept. 19.
